Speaker 1 (00:05):
Bold Asides podcast The Stories behind Just Great Rock.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
My God, I am so excited to have you performing
here in New Zealand this week. There's a long way
to travel for a two hour show.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Well, don't say it's not a two hour show. It's
like a seventy five minute show. So don't give anybody
a reason to get pissed off.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
You posted the most hilarious video on Instagram last week
where you put all the single Kiwi Guys on blast
saying you know you're looking for love. It's gone now though.
Did you change your mind about the Kiwi Boys?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
No? No, Instagram took it down and I had to
repost it. I mean I just said I'm looking for
a sexual partner, and so I reposted it like three
days ago and said, don't take this down Instagram. That's
completely sexist. I'm allowed to ask for suitors in different countries. Well,
I got a message from somebody on that and she said,
I'm Asachi Comedium and I can tell that you're going
to meet your soulmate on this trip that you're on.
(00:56):
So if he's in New Zealand, hello, Look.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I was so fascinated. Actually, well, I was doing a
little research for us to find out how you got
in to stand up. Great story, you getting a duh
and it was standing up at a meeting, which you
were terrified of, but you got such a reaction from
just being yourself and you realized that you had this
gift that you could make people laugh.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah. I was really dreading doing that. But you had
to get up in front of the class and tell
everybody your DUI story. And I was like, oh God,
I hated the idea of public speaking in front of
even like twenty five people were so terrifying. But then
I got up there and started talking and everybody was laughing,
and I was like, Oh, this is awesome. What's going
on here? And then I wouldn't get off and finally
the guy who was running the class was like, you
(01:37):
need to get off stage. This is in a stand
up comedy club. And that's when I was like, Oh,
maybe that's what I should do. I can have a
microphone and nobody can interrupt me. Perfect.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I mean, you are just a million miles an hour
with the amount of projects that you've always gotten the
boil and stuff, and I know you've said that, you
know you're embracing the weed. These days as a way
to sort of slow down and chill. What do you
do when you travel because you can't travel with it,
can you?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
But people bring me drugs every there I go, Yeah,
every show, people would bring me pot. I mean I
tell them not to w I don't do it because
it's illegal in these parts of the world, but you
know that it's people have it. So I guess I'm
drinking here while I'm here.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Well, look, I don't know what you love to drink
when you drink, but we are so well known for
our wine and our wineries here in New Zealand, is
that you'll think.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Wine is not my thing that we are going to
a winery when we are because I'm spending some extra
time in New Zealand, you know, for personal reasons. You've
already We've already covered that. But wine is not my thing.
But I can drink it if forced. I like sight seeing,
like I want to go scuba diving. I mean, who knows,
I might go skiing, but we'll probably go hiking. I
don't know, we'll do outdoors the stuff we'll be out
(02:38):
and about. I wanted to spend some extra time here
because last time I was in Auckland. It was only
for two days.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, what is mixed for you?
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Then?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
What are you working on after this tour.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I'm just focusing on the stand up right now. I'm
doing the stand up comedy. Just sold the rights to
my book to make it into a TV show which
I would star in, So we're gonna work on that
when I get back. But yeah, I'm on vacation for
the next three weeks after my show in Auckland, so
I'm going to be bouncing around the world and meeting
up with people. You know, I never really have a
big plan of what I'm going to do, but things
always seem to pop up.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Do you find that when you're overseas you can go
under the radar a little bit or you still literally
stop for selfies every five minutes.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
No, it's much different. I can go under the radar more.
But even in the States, everybody who knows me knows that, like,
that's who I am. It's not a big deal to
come up to me. I don't really care, you know.
I'm not like walking around like Madonna with security guards
and stuff. So it's pretty chill and I appreciate that.
I like that. I want to be like that. I
don't want to be walking around with security guards.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Oh well, we are super excited to have you down here.
I didn't realize you were in Melbourne already, No wonder
the linees so good.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
I bloody love that.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
It's great. Thank you so much for taking the time
to talk to us. It's really exciting.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Oh, thank you. Take care.
