Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talks. It'd be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
And off to the UK we go. Gavin Greg good
morning to.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
You hither Andrew, Happy Boxing day, Thank.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
You so very very much. It's Christmas Day there. Did
you get a white Christmas?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
No?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
In fact, the forecasters had widely predicted it was going
to be cold and maybe Scotland or something we'd get
a flake or two. But actually in the end it
was Jersey, which is one of the Channel islands, nearer
France than England in that sort of strait of the
English Channel, due south as it were of London, but
nearer the border and nearer the coast with France, that

(00:47):
is reported to have had a few flakes of snow
literally a little flurry. Now that will not upset the
book makers because there are so many restrictions on where
the snow has to land to win a bet on
a white Christmas here in the UK that I don't
think Jersey would count. However, there are so many different
types of bets you could place, Andrew, that perhaps this

(01:09):
is something that might be up for debate.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Great stuff, and I understand in Norway they have no
snow on the skifields, which I mean, imagine that Norway
no snow in December. But there we go. Now to
Christmas and of course the royals. What happened at Sandringham?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, so do you know, I mean there were crowd
It was bitterly cold last night and there were crowds
starting to gather at nine pm night outside the church
at Sandringham in the East of England. It is there
are all families privately owned estate, and of course famously
they walk to the local church, often walk, sometimes drive.
Her Majesty of the late Queen Elizabeth you still of

(01:49):
course be driven there most of the time, and lots
of packed crowds. The King and Queen were there, so
to the Prince of Wales and his wife, so of
course we're talking William and Catherine there, and also Beatrice
and Eugenie, the two princesses, the two daughters of Prince
Andrew ex Prince Andrew or Andrew mant Back and Windsor

(02:11):
as he's now known, and his wife Sarah Ferguson. Now
those two individuals, Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York
and the former Duke of York were both absent, and
of course that is really going to dominate the headlines
because not only has he had all his title strip,
but effectively he's not even welcome on his own family estate.
It is said that he was not invited to the

(02:33):
Royal family Christmas lunch or dinner, and plenty of people
would think were good on King Charles completely cutting him out,
But of course that the heart of it. This is
a family, and there are other people saying no, no, no,
he should have been there. It's a family, they should
support him, he should be with them. But certainly Prince
Andrew the disgraced, really Prince Andrew denying any involvement or

(02:54):
any wrongdoing in the past. I'm afraid all these recent
allegations and gone going emails coming out of the Epstein
files really really very difficult for the Royal family and
of course for Andrew mount Back and Wins himself.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Now they ever risted one hundred and fifteen people planning
New Year's attacks and apparently they're all Islamic state people.
So are we seeing, yeah, the rise again of isis well.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I certainly think Turkey's very very concerned it shares a
very long border with Syria, about nine hundred kilometers, and
the group in Islamic State continues to operate in parts
of that country. And just a couple of days ago,
Turkish intelligence reported that they'd carried out a raid against
the group Islamic State on the Afghan Pakistan border, and
the Turkish national who's alleged to have held a senior

(03:43):
role within the Islamic State region they're operating in that
part of the world, was detained and accused of planning
attacks against civilians. Now we learn that there were raids
at one hundred and twenty four different addresses across Istanbul,
the capital of course, and that the chief prosecutors saying firearms,
ammunition and what are called organizational documents were seized. And yeah,

(04:08):
suspected members of the so called Islamic State group have
been arrested and will be being questioned. Now in Turkey,
it is reported across the country Turkey split between different religions,
are trying to support freedom of speech and all those
different types of religions. It was reported that many different
non Muslim events were the targets of these intentions.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Now five people from Europe and people from the UK
have been denied UK visas. So what's happening there between
the US and of course Europe and the UK.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, denied US visas to go in and one of
the people who has been denied a visa is a
French former European Union commissioner. I mean you were talking,
you know, quite a senior politician of his time. Two
senior figures at a Germany based anti online hate group,
so that's you know, anti people who are hating online.

(05:05):
They've been denied visas along with the the two Britons,
one Imran Ahmed, an ex government or Labor party advisor
who now had something called the Center for Countering Digital Hate,
and also somebody else called Claire Melford, an organization belonging
to the Global Disinformation Index. She's the CEO, and they've

(05:26):
both been labeled as radical activists by the Trump administration
and banned from entering America. European Union leaders are condemning
the measures. The UK government says it's fully committed to
upholding free speech. The French President Emmanuel Macron described the
travel ban as intimidation and coercion aimed at undermining European
digital sovereignty. Now let me just explain that these measures

(05:51):
are in a response to people and organizations, according to
the US that have campaigned for restrictions on American tech firms.
And let's not also forget that it wasn't that long ago, Andrew,
that we were reporting, of course, on a massive clash
between the European Union and digital online giants, with some

(06:12):
in the EU basically trying to fine and punish the
tech giants, including it has to be said X of course,
owned by Elon Musk, over its so called blue tick badges.
They imposed a fine of roughly two hundred and thirty
million New Zealand dollars and said that the platform's blue
tick system was deceptive because the firm was not meaningfully

(06:35):
verifying users and this blue tich system is all about
trying to make people more comfortable with their online choices.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Kevin Gray from the UK, thank you so much for
taking time out of your Christmas day to talk to us.
