Time to Talk the Weather with the Met Services. Mark Todd,
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
So what have we got. We had that low over
the Chatham Islands last time I spoke with Met Service
at the end of the end of last week. What's
it doing now?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
It's been going nowhere, unfortunately, and that's why we've got
this fast swath of cloud around eastern coastal areas and
a cool, sort of damp weather for those places. But
the good news is that today we do see that
low is starting to gradually fill and drift away very
slowly to the east. So they're not going to be
any dramatic change, but we will start to see an

(00:54):
improvement today for eastern coastal areas where the winds should
gradually start to ease, and by the end of the
day there's not going to be quite as much our
activity around as there is as there has been for
the last few days.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
What are people kind of notice with temperatures generally compared
to what they expect, coolish.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
In these areas, below average for this time of year.
Around southern and eastern coastal areas, but for the remainder
of the country, it's pretty much average for this time
of year, with the exception of the Southern Lakes district.
I see that a Oneica is expected to reach a
maximum of twenty eight degrees today, which is a little

(01:35):
bit warmer than average, and Queenstown is going to be
a nice and warm twenty five degrees, So that's one
of the places to be today.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
And so Westland to Waikato as well, West Coast not
bad a yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
It's one of these unusual setups for them. Whereas you know,
they're the ones who mostly be getting all the weather
from the west, but with the flow coming from the
south and southeast, they get fine and warm conditions. So
good for the people on the west coast.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
If we just asked to focus on the commandle for
a second, because we've got that fire going on over there,
is there anything that's going to give the firefighters a
bit of good news?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
They should have pretty average temperatures today. Let me have
a very brief look at the wind for them. I
don't think well, be a continuation of sort of lightish
southerly winds, nothing particularly strong. I think later in the day,
there'll be some some westerlies coming across from the west
coast that will that that'll pick up and be breezy

(02:31):
for a while during the warmer part of the day.
But apart from that, nothing nothing too concerning.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Nothing to nothing to help them either, I guess. But yeah,
what about what about? What about Tuesday and Wednesday? Just
looking through towards the middle of the.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Week, gradual improvement as as there's lower moves away to
the east and we get high pressure starting to dominate
the weather more than it has been in the last
few days, and we might start to see some daytime
convective showers popping up about inland areas of both the
North and South Island, mainly about the Ranges, but possibly
affecting one or two other inland areas as well.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Excellent, Hey, Mark, Hey, thanks so much for your time.
That is Mark Todd from the met Service.
