Speaker 2 (00:17):
We go Murray Olds, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
To you, morning mate. How are you going? Very good?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Big day yesterday it was one week since Spondai Huge Day.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
It's been a huge week and last night was the
end of a national day of reflection. Six forty seven
Sydney time, Eastern Australian time. We all stopped and lit
candles and I was walking the dog, so I stood
up there and put my iPhone light on and had
a quiet thought about what the week's just just been
(00:47):
has been like. And I can remember no, we quite
like it, to be honest an astonishing, an astonishing week.
And last night the culmination was quite astonishing as well.
Big I don't know the size of the crowdit Bondai,
but thousands, thousands went down to Bondau Beach last night
and you know it was who's who. John Howard was there,
(01:10):
Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison was there. You had of
course Anthony Albaniz, he was there. He was booed, he
was booed by the crowd. Biggest cheer for Susan Lee,
who was the opposition leader. She was there as well,
much bigger cheer, the biggest cheer of the lot for
the state leaders. We had the Premier of New South Wales,
(01:32):
Chris Mens. And you know, Sydney is the biggest Jewish
population in the eastern suburbs Bondai, that's the heart of
the biggest Jewish population in Australia. And the Jewish people
of Sydney certainly acknowledge the work that Chris Mens has
done to counter anti Semitism. And so too the new
opposition leader, Kelly Sloan, she is the local MP. And
(01:56):
so you had this enormous gathering. You had rabbis from
all around the world. You had the Jewish leadership of
New South Wales, a guy, a guy called John Ossip,
John No I forget his name, in anyway, he was
he was absolutely When the crowd began to boo at Albanisi,
(02:19):
he said, hang on, stop stop, stop stop. But then
he proceeded to scream, you know, demand a royal commission
and the New South Wales Parliament to be recalled today
Andrew because the government really wants to pass a suite
of measures that will give police a lot more powers
to to move people on a lot more powers to
(02:39):
arrest and prosecute people for displaying symbols of hate. I've
already got this standard sort of suite of message against
Nazi symbols, for example. But what they want to do
is move against these hate preachers who hop onto online
platforms and spew their hatred out across that medium. So look,
it's been a hell of a week. To be honest,
hand on heart, I've seen nothing like it, and I
(03:01):
think Australia has been changed forever. And we'll just have
to wait to see which way the mop flops. Because
Anthony Alberanesi has lost a lot of bark.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yes, as some politicians have win in great favor, as
you said, men's you know, it's going to be great
for his future. What's he going to do? But Anthony Albenese,
earlier this morning, we actually played the audio of him
getting booed. Now this wasn't the odd boo this was
a chorus of booze. The anti Semitism problem that Albanze
has is deserved, is it not.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Look he's really to a Look, I think I'm a
big elbow fan. I think I like his politics, but
he's really he miscalculated here big time. On the back
of what happened that the atrocity that happened in southern
Israel October seventh, twenty twenty three, Albanese was slow out
of the blocks. He finally appointed an eminent Jewish woman
(03:55):
over here, Gillian Siegel, and said, what do we need
to do? She produced a report and it's set on
the desk in Cambro gathering dust since July. And then
we had the dreadful scenes of Sunday week ago. And
it's not as though the government hasn't been urged to
do more. Please look what's happening on our streets. Look
(04:17):
at the synagogues being set on fire. Look at the
homes of prominent Jewish leaders being firebombed, Look at their
cars being set alight. I mean, what the hell are
you doing? What are you doing to stop this? To
wind down the temperature? Well, the answers bugger all. And
now he's paying that political price, Andrew, and you know,
I think it's and that is going to be I
(04:38):
don't know the extent to which he's lost his political skin,
but boy, oh boy, he's really been scarred by this,
no doubt about.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
It, absolutely and me towards Christmas and I understand the
forecast for you is well, heat waves and lightning.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Heat waves and lightning. Of course, a bit like we
saw in Adelaide yesterday with the Australian team wrapping up
the Ashes. I mean we had everything this summer because
of course the Ashes is the old enemy, England coming
down to try and play cricket in Australia and humiliated.
I looked up a stat last night. England has not
won a cricket test in this country for eighteen tests. Now.
(05:17):
It's a bit like the bladders Low Cup. They just
keep getting flogged and you know, and they said, oh
we were well prepared coming down here this time. They
are training on pies and pipes, big fats. Maybe palms
have got no idea how to play in Australian conditions.
The pitches they play on vastly different to England. The
(05:40):
balls are quicker up against. You know, oh this is
the worst Aussie team in years. Well, hello, son, have
this bum handed to you because that's what's happened matey.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Look look, can I just say at least you've got
cricket here in New Zealand. Today is the last day
of Test cricket for our summer. We had a spring
of cricket and we're playing the West and it should
be a really great day today. But today is the
last day of cricket and we've got no international Test
cricket from this point on until we go overseas sometime
next year.
