Speaker 2 (00:16):
So it's been a stranger of summer so far. Many
wondering where the sunshine has gone. It was there for
a bit and then it disappeared. Outside of Hawk's Bay.
It's been wind, rain, and even a white Christmas down south.
Now it's New Year's we've got festivals already underway. The
weather's still not playing balls. So let's talk about the weather.
Should we be worried or is it actually nothing to
worry about? TYPEE Makabutane is my guest from Meth Service.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Hello. TYPEE moderner Andrew, Thank you. How are you this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm very well and I'm looking out my window in
this blue sky and I thought New Year's was going
to be a dog So what the hell is happening
with New Zealand's weather?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah? Absolutely, As you mentioned over Christmas time, some areas
saw some cloudy weather. Some areas even saw a white Christmas.
But there is certainly more weather on the way in
the lead up to New Year Now. Obviously yesterday was
quite an active weather day and we're still seeing some
active weather today. So over the last few weeks, earlier
this month, we had a large high pressure over the country,
(01:11):
and if you'll remember, we had beautiful, warm conditions, dry weather,
but then that high pressure moved away and opened the
door to all of these weather systems moving through. So
it's still a little bit to go before New Years,
but we'll get there eventually.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Of course, the concern on the TV news last night
was rhythm and vines, is it going to be a
mud bath? But I'm looking at the forecast right now.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day looks fine with
the higher twenty eight. So what's the weather for Gisbelle.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, absolutely, the festival and the general area started off
what we already saw over one hundred to two hundred
millimeters in the last day alone, But going forward later
this afternoon, those conditions do start to ease and it
actually looks like pretty good news for New Year's Eve
down that way.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Is this an average summer? I mean it rains. Have
we all freaked out for nothing?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
And yeah, yesterday and today it definitely felt a little
bit unlucky. But things do start to ease up over
the next few days, barring the odd thunderstorm. But the
thing to remember is that it is a matter of
it is summer and warmer temperatures, and warmer temperatures do
you tend to bring things like showers, things like thunderstorms.
So it may feel a little bit different from average,
(02:19):
but yeah, maybe not too different.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
From the north well where your fine weather type of
I thank you so much for your time typing that
you met service.
