Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome to you, Chopper good a Romayne, how are you good?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
You good? Yeah? Well, what can I say? I was
being my rubbish spin across the road one day into
the public one torn heads on Eastern Beach after a
big Italian night, and there was a chap standing up
on a balcony that just moved in next door, and
(00:51):
he was going, look at that, Mars, the hell's going
on over there? I looked up and it was a chap.
He was the same chap that walked into my office
and I tried to sell a car to three years previous.
And it became my neighbor. And that man is Idy Rayner.
Stop it, no way, man, no way, It's amazing. And
(01:14):
we cracked up laughing, and he went he looked at me.
He pointed at me and he goes, what are you doing?
And I said, I'm doing what I want to do.
And I said, what are you doing? He said, I'm
I'm looking at you doing something I don't think should
be good. And I went, okay, well, who the hell
are you? And he goes, I'm your neighbor, and I
(01:35):
went on and then we went, oh, it's you, it's you,
And he wasted my time buying a card. Never ever
sell Eddie Rayner Eddie. He destroys real estate agents, car salesman, everything.
The only thing he doesn't murder is music. He's unbelievable.
Oh man. We became the best friends and hilarious and
(01:59):
a lot of people don't realize. He actually was picked
by Paul McCartney to do an album with him, and
he went and lived at McCartney estate for about three months,
was pulling the late Linda and with Phil Collins and
Pete Townshend and did an album out there and I
(02:19):
was quite funny. We talked about it and I said, man,
I really wikiped to you you did this thing, and
and he goes, yeah, that's right, because he's you know,
he's he's he's he's not he's not he's not he's
not a self promoter. He's pretty down to earth man.
He's the most down the earth cool guy. And I
(02:40):
and I said, it's amazing that you did this and
he went, yeah, well, you know, I'll tell her what hour,
I tell her what chopper he said, the album was
absolutely crap, and you know, and and and they just
didn't get it together. But oh man, he had that,
he had that that thing going on and he still
has and he's going strong, and he's going he's going hard.
(03:02):
And is he teaching and is he still teaching keyboards?
Speaker 1 (03:05):
He was doing a bit of teaching.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Wasn't he. No, he's not now. He's what he's doing
is he's immersed himself into the legacy of split ends.
And I was there because we were in the bubble
when the lockdown happened with with with with the first lockdown,
and and here was, like I say, right next door.
(03:26):
So he'd set up a recording studio and stairs and
he was. He remastered and remaxed the True Colors album
and it's been released. Yeah, and that they've got a
big thing going on right now with they're redoing all
this stuff, rhythm, every album and they're going to re
release them all very shortly, like having a copy with
(03:47):
them at Circus Circus the other day. You know, he's
going strong.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Huh Circus Circus. That's a. That's a very That'd be
a great place to hide because it's so busy now,
I would probably spot him. I was. I was in
the rock shop a few months ago and they said, oh,
Eddie Vrain has just been in here, and I missed
him by by millimeters. By the sounds of it.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
He really tell me, how did he get the connection
to Paul McCartney. How did that happen? Well, it's really
interesting actually because I can tell you I asked him
the exact same question. And they were in Europe at
the time, and I think they were in England, and
McCartney went to one of their concerts and saw saw
(04:31):
them playing, was flit ends and went went backstage and
asked him to join him, and and the rest is history.
And he and he did. He went out there and
it was a It was a and Paul McCartney was incredible,
actually remained because when he was recounting the story to
me at that stage, you know, this was only a
(04:55):
couple of years ago. He rang me about three weeks later.
We talk about synchronism and he goes, goodness me, Raymand,
my ex wife just rang me to stay. She's got
all these photographs of of your time at the McCartney estate.
And he rang me at work and said, you better
get over here. We're going to have a look at
(05:16):
each tonight. So we went over and cracked a bottle
of wine and sat there and looked at all these
what you would talk about like family photos. And there
they were, all were sprinting cups of tea literally and
and looking just you know, youthful and average, very average,
and doing their thing. At the heartcache part about it,
(05:37):
he said, you know, there was one thing about it
was you couldn't have meat within three miles of the estate,
because of course it's a vegan thing. We're Paul and
at the time. But you know, apart from that, but
you know, Townsend used to roll up in his roller
every morning and get out, you know, like he was royalty.
And because Eddie wasn't you know he was he was
(06:00):
he was a scrubber, you know, but he'd been he
was a ringing and and doing his thing. But yeah,
what an experience. And Paul, even Paul and you can
he might even come on your show. I'll ring and
tell him to get on here. And he gave him,
he gave a camera and and it was like it's
(06:22):
it's really illumed from. But yeah, what's other lovely man?
Top of the lovely lovely Man?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I'm so pleased that you've called.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Can now walk here beside?
