Speaker 2 (21:47):
Before we get into the nitty gritty, tell the ewe
who you are, what you are, where you're from. Header.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
I was born and in Kola in the household, maybe
it's been four rooms with twelve tamidicky, well, let's say
fourteen of us, you know, including our parents. And it
was kind of like you had this boys room, a
girl's room, the parents room, and then my brother and

(22:18):
his little EWI. So yeah, and it was it was
the first one up. They got the shoes, they got
the nice jacket, and we were all the hand me downs,
and you know, growing up like that at the time,
we didn't think, we didn't know we were poor. If

(22:40):
we were, it was just do your thing, get up,
go to school. And then it's sort of too when
you get to school and you see all the tamidiki
with their nice lunch bunch and you've got the lunch.
But then you just got to be grateful that you've
got your either peanut butter or your gem sandwiches accompanyed

(23:03):
with some fruit or cup.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Boy, you should actually look what he had for Yeah.
I was that cadet school too.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Yeah, we were looking at they all looked at me.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
For the lunch. My savages were crusts, were cut off
giving privilege.

Speaker 6 (23:18):
You were the one that had the twisties.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
He was the one that had cordial in a bottle,
who came to school with a drink.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
On top of that, on top of their had poo
tear as well. I thought, I thought about me, guys,
that's about the chicken didn't go back to back to
cor eye please order.

Speaker 6 (23:42):
Yes, And so growing up and quite tired with the
and a big funo. I look back at it now
and I'm so grateful for my upbringing six girls and
six boys, and that's incredible. Like now you have a
finer reunion, you go don't want to hang up with that.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
So where do you fit in the twelfth?

Speaker 6 (24:03):
Yes, I am number nine.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Oh, I know what busy.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
We when we did go to Farno reunions, we would
have to our parents will get us to introduce ourselves,
of course, but you have to say what number you were, Yeah, exactly,
and so people would remember us by saying, hey, number nine.

(24:28):
So yeah, you kind of do a number amongst the
fan though, but it was quite normal. There were other
Faro who were families of eighteen. I know my mum's got.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
That no TV and back there.

Speaker 6 (24:39):
Certainly not in my home.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Your family's big enough to have to have your own
family reunion just to get together.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
As I mentioned earlier, it's just you.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
You got to.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
You've got a really plan to have a paro reunion
with your siblings, and.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
I like that you've kept up the tradition and you've
got a few of your beautiful Tomdiche so lovely.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Thank you. Yes, they we have we have seven Tamadi.
Well I tell everybody I have seven tamadiki, but I
eight including my husband. It's my biggest baby. Yes, it's
kind of like the tamadie should be the priority in
the morning. Then as soon as someone's like, have you

(25:27):
seen my shirt? Have you seen? Okay, it's my time
to run out the close the door and try and
find it himself. And then you hear the same thing again,
have you seen my school shirt?

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Have you seen?

Speaker 1 (25:37):
I got it?

Speaker 6 (25:38):
Mom's the word in the morning. But there's a routine, okay,
So at night I would prepare the lunches and each
have their preferences. You really got to label the lunch box.
And then in the morning, well, our big boys at

(26:02):
this my oldest who's with us at the time at
the moment, he's eighteen, so he helps us with dropping
the tumbert a key off and he helps us getting
their lunches ready and drops them off to any sports
if they have any practices.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
I So we know you as as the wonderful Coyota
tipping it. We know you from Kaitaia, but a lot
of people will know you from the success of the
show Casca Teers, which is just a phenomenon on television.
Netflix series huge but Where did it all start for
you as a as as you were in your career,

(26:38):
because I know you you were you also a teacher. Yes,
so how did it all start? Where did it all
start from?

Speaker 6 (26:43):
Okay? I loved you know, So you go to study
you I mean to the University of Auckland to Teachers
Training College and you go on practicums. You know, there's
a six week practicum that you have to do they
assign you at school. And it was where I realized like, oh,

(27:03):
actually this is not nine to three.

Speaker 9 (27:07):
Oh we have to actually entertain can Oh then you
kind of lose count like twenty two in the class
and okay, we're going up to the thirties.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
So it was in that sort of experience we realize
maybe this is probably not for me. And I'm grateful
for that experience. So my tiny at the time was
very hungry to Manarchi to Papaku, which was completely not

(27:41):
in my field of you know, what I wanted to do.
But it was a it was a surprise because he
came home and he shared his views about wanting to
open this business and help his people, and it was
that that was what was attracting me. But it wasn't
until when he says, oh, I want to be a
funeral director and on a tacky to Papaka, and I'm like, oh, oh.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
I'm a teacher. Okay, maybe teaching not so bad.

Speaker 6 (28:14):
So I thought I'll let him go on his journey
do his thing. And then it wasn't until when I
realized he finally got himself in the industry. He was
working for a far funeral home in Pamea, and I
hardly ever saw him. The kids I ever saw their dad,
but he needed Affi as well, and so at night

(28:36):
time he would bring me up and hey, I need
you to come and help me.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
Please.

Speaker 6 (28:40):
I've got no one else's assess me. And then I
was okay cool at the same time like, oh my gosh,
he can not prank me. This is not about you
and I. This is about the Farno in there in
there too, Pabaka. But it was in that sense where
you went to go and Afi this loved one and
Uffy the far no puney, and they tell you, oh,

(29:03):
thank you for loking. After my moment, it was that
moment where I realized, actually, I think I'd rather be
helping people then.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
And helping kids.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Being stressed.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
So yeah, that's that's what we're doing at the moment,
and we're doing that best to continue to Manaki Fano
in those times of meat.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Do you miss teaching?

Speaker 6 (29:27):
I was sooner I would go back.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Parts of it.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Part of it.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
I was like, am I allowed to say, Oh, I
give it up to all the teachers though. Yeah, like
I said, it's not your night to three. Some of
them are the seven o'clock And I'm thinking, and I think,
I love my money.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Yeah, but what I like about your business and what
I've seen on Casketeers because I'm a fan, it's just
that it actually brings out your guys personality and how
caring you are and to the detail fine detail and
just when you when you give people that time and
that time of grief, well I can see that they

(30:12):
really appreciate it and it's so genuine. That's what we
get from the program, and that's what we get from
you and in person.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
So I feel like you guys nailed.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Our producer, producer, Helen is massive family. She's the same thing.
She really gets the the nitty gritty of what you do,
the personality and how you connect with family. So yeah,
and I think everyone does, and.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
How you connect with the two parbuka like you know
is coming today and yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
Yeah, because you know, as as of Maori Fino losing
a findal member, you have a Malori final Looking after
that final member is important because you understand you know,
our ticunga, our view of the world, you know all
of those sort of things, right, So I think for
find thee coming through, it's important that you have fun

(31:03):
like yourself who are able to give them the time,
give them the space, understand all of those sort of things.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
So that's beautiful. How do you guys?

Speaker 5 (31:12):
I often ask this question because I'm always it's important
to me. So how do you guys look after yourself?
How do you you have to it's such a heavy
for mahi and you you'll be trying not to wear that,
you know, How do you look after yourself?

Speaker 6 (31:28):
I go to my phone and I watch people like
Massia and Great Energy. No truly, I you you you
need to find some type of outlet or some go
to and and it could be it could be going
for some type of hikui in that moment. But often

(31:50):
what I find with our our maha without tipping their fun,
we come back with deep brief and we have a
big heat. Just let it.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Out like that.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
But if the individual is still feeling Tama, they will
let us know and then you can refer them to
some type of But.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
For you, you just do a lot of self I
do down in faro as you're sort of filling your cup.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
And look, there could be some There are so many
types of situations that we are fronted with and I
just would can't help but go home and all my
time in the kid and just be so grateful that
they still with me, that I'm still with them, and

(32:41):
that those are the challenging situations are when it's so
close to you, like a young mother who passed away,
giving birth, baby still lives, or even newborns. All types
of experience and situations you're fronted with. Often it is

(33:04):
the ones that can be quite sudden and unexpected that
are heavy for our families to cope with, and you
just have to navigate your way through that with the farno.
But in those situations like when that is close to you,
I do I like to just take a moment my

(33:25):
Tanya and I am so grateful that he's with me.
There are times with him and I have cried on
each other with each other. Then we go home and
we just I feel all our AUTOMATIQUI here.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah, I have to ask because just I'm just gonna
sure of change the tone of earlier we found out.
I learned for the first time that your next or
neighbors happened to be the I heard that, and I'm

(33:58):
a massive fan of princess. So I want to know
who who are you? Who your neighbors and do you
get to go like Kiki?

Speaker 6 (34:05):
And I know, like I I've been waiting because I
often do walk past that is it gated? Yes, I know,
and I don't get well, you've got to walk up
a hill to see the gates because you can actually
can't see the palace. It was a palace, the palace. Yeah,

(34:25):
so I've been told. So I've walked up so fat
and then I really want to be so nosey.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
And beyond the next gate another. Okay, I'm just looking
for something. I dropped.

Speaker 6 (34:42):
I got so excited when I saw one of the
Koma he outside sweeping leaves, I know, and I thought, yeah,
I can say hello to them. This part of the
royal family, well they were they just it was it
was that was okay, but my time I felt so
so for in these leaves, he goes home, it gets

(35:05):
out play flower and he comes back and.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
It gives the leaf flowers because we know him to
be a leaf blower.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
Just go out of the front and just just leaf blow.
And then I just noticed there was leash.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Get it's fine. And then who are you personally?

Speaker 4 (35:25):
Have you seen me leaf blowing your driveway? It's me
trying to get into your.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Like now, if you live next to a gated palace
the only kingdom of in the Pacific, and you live
next door the.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Girls, they all up to the buber girl.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
But you know Casa tears.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
I love the show brilliant.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
On Netflix TV, and what are the future plans?

Speaker 2 (35:57):
You know?

Speaker 6 (35:57):
I didn't even know that the Winter Netflix it was
on Netflix.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
True.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
True.

Speaker 6 (36:02):
And it's not until when some reporter rings up and says, hey,
can I interview the shows?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (36:06):
Is it killed her? And my husband, not even knowing
what Netflix is at the time, it's like, what's what's
what does this mean? I'm going, oh, okay, I've got
to explain it to him first before he has an interview.
Otherwise he's going to sound like, but we didn't. So
I think right now I can I can safely say

(36:26):
that we're filming. It's called the Casketeers on the Road
or Casketeers going globe and where we get to go
to countries and learn of there.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
That's awesome and.

Speaker 6 (36:41):
So far it's been an experience. And as we went
to and oh look, because Francis, Francis is from Tama
and he connected with his we met some of his

(37:04):
far and that was a beautiful experience too. We had learning.
He even went to his so and but we did
our best. We tried to go beyond those palace skates
to go meet I know, we meant we We end

(37:24):
up meeting the prince and his wife, I know, and
they even apologized and said, look, I'm so sorry we
didn't get time to meet you. And I actually sit
down and host you while while you're here, but we
hope to catch up with you in New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Coming from a cup of tea. But that's so called
to the glo.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
And no doubt you're like you'll see and protocols and
that you'd want to dep back here absolutely well or not.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
Killed some of them. I have a question about about
that because you're you, and you'll find are very much
now in the public eye and celebrities of our country
we see you and you may not feel like you are,
but you certainly are. And how do you then deal
with criticism? And if how do you like if you
see it, how do you deal with it? And when
you face it, what do you do?

Speaker 6 (38:18):
It's so it's a very very good question.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
I'm sure.

Speaker 6 (38:23):
Look, I'm I think I'm to see it or experience
some form of criticism, but are you able to give
me an example?

Speaker 2 (38:32):
So sure, like social media trolling and people like you know,
the series will come out and TV and Z will
put it out there next minute.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
Done.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
These people's commenting are so I've seen some comments about
these things and they're not nice. And we're all from
to tay talking, so we know very much well we
are not putting up that.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (38:50):
Look when the when the show first there was a
glimpse of it, the first few seconds of it on
social media and the comments people are like, oh, what
we've just it's a new year and you want to
start our year like this said, and there was a
lot of negative comments. So we were we were unsure

(39:13):
what we're going to be faced with. That was just
in the lead up to the episode.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Then the episode is positive.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
All the comments were positive. I mean like, wow, we
were just taken back. If there is any type of criticism,
it's kind of like an attack on us, like, oh,
she will that he's got a big suit on again,
he's looking bigger than he was in the last episode.
All those comments. Yeah, but we've learned to just you

(39:45):
can either take it or you can just ignore.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
And you guys know, you guys are doing the right
money and at the end of the day, the fin
that you're looking after is the main.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Thing and your in your line. I mate, what what
is the highlight?

Speaker 6 (40:07):
My highlight would be actually receiving feedback from those who
have experienced loss and sharing that a certain episode has
helped them and their grief. And getting that type of
feedback as brings some some comfort to know that we

(40:28):
helped others out there.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yes, but.

Speaker 6 (40:33):
Look, there's been another highlight. Could could be teaching people
how we can grieve, how our maori grief or sometimes
we we You'll see that not often. The two papakur
has taken home. The two papa remain in their care.

(40:54):
And that's katy Pie as well. So it's I like
to believe that it's it's ed catered, beautiful, very cool.
You can change the tone a little bit if you want.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
It's all about you, okay, well okay, let's just change
it slightly. Then, when you're not working and you're not
on mama duty, what are your go to things to do? Oh?

Speaker 6 (41:20):
I sat thinking about the beautiful restaurants that I want
to go.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Yeah, because we do.

Speaker 6 (41:28):
Yes, I'll go to the other even when you're by yourself. Yes,
you're right, it's part of healing. So there's those. But
I do love to have some me time. I go
to to go to the mall and just I might
not even buy anything, but let's just go through and
have a lock and go, oh look that's looking good today.

(41:51):
I'll come back and get you maybe next week. But
I do tend to have some go on my own
sort of mean time things.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
I love that. Well. With a little game to play with,
you just get more of an idea about who who.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
All right, it's just a quickness that yes, come head
or cap.

Speaker 6 (42:13):
Cap Okay, yeah, thank you brands or not?

Speaker 2 (42:21):
This is.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
What was that you being?

Speaker 4 (42:24):
To say brand girl.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
Shamelessly brands. I love it. Night out or Netflix and chill.

Speaker 6 (42:36):
Oh, oh my gosh, I think it would be a
Netflix and chill, but actually no this I'm feeling like
a night out today.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
Put bones or brisketones, no, Chris, yeah.

Speaker 6 (42:54):
Yeah, tomato sauce.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
Sorry some crazy but ye is that cheese or butter? Yeah?
Breakfast or dinner?

Speaker 6 (43:08):
Dinner?

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Are you do? You cook? You cook? You cook? You
cook meals? Come? Do you cook?

Speaker 6 (43:15):
I love cooking, absolutely love and you know what, Take
me to your mother because I can cook for many
people now, my.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Buddy family of twelve. If somebody key, yeah, yeah, no
doubt last time. Just summer and winter.

Speaker 6 (43:33):
That summer, summer. I love summer.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
I've got one for you, Troy King, your standing. They
both watched the show too, Yeah Troy, she didn't stand first.
Oh I love it one more than they also have
been on our show. L I B or six sixty.

Speaker 6 (43:57):
You can't do that, well, you know.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
A good safe can't do that.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
I'll have to say a sixty.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
L A sixty l A before we say hi a Martian.
Do you have any final words you like to say
to the EWI.

Speaker 6 (44:20):
To all the hard working moms to all the entrepreneur
newer moms, or even just being a mom. You just
keep on being you. And even if you're waking up
and you start with just getting out of bed and
attending to your tamidiki, you're winning, yes.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
One hundred percent, you are winning.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
I think we seem to put a lot of pressure
emphasis on the fact that you should be doing this,
should be doing that. But if you're up in providing
and you're out there, even if you're working or not,
but you're providing for your tominique, you're winning.

Speaker 6 (44:57):
You're winning. There's an assumption where waiting there have to
be in high places or some status to be known
as successful. You just be you, you be, and you
are and you continue. Ah say that again, Be you be,

(45:22):
you are and you continue.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
Ah one and only. That's amazing. Hey, thank you so
much for being part of Court It or Are Season one.

corporate tongue of the pw C, the Utnay Hoppa is

we say on that's right, the same wave link.
