Speaker 4 (01:55):
Murray, Yeah Hi, Matt Hi tyli you y.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Afternoon so what is the Latest?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Murray, well there's been a bunch of developments this. Morning
we had our political, leaders police leaders and so. On
this morning we had The Prime, minister we had The
premier Review South wales brand new police, commissioner and just
in the last few minutes we've confirmed that one of
the victims was a. Rabbi he only became a father.

(02:24):
Again last, month the ABC's learned of the identities of
five of the, victims two were. Rabbis we understand that Visiting.
FRENCH A jewish fellow From france was. Visiting he died
on the beach as, well along with two. Others as you,
said sixteen people died in. Total one of them was the.
Gunment he was shot dead by. POLICE a fifty year old.

(02:47):
Father his twenty four year old son was shot and
wounded by. Police he's. Critical he remains in. Hospital Alex
ribchen is one Of Australia's jewish, leaders lives In, sydney
and he rushed A bondai, BEACH i Mean bondai, beach
for goodness, sake it was a beautiful, EVENING i, mean god,
on we all Know Bondai beach was up The north,

(03:08):
end and you know there was a Crowded jewish kids
celebrating the first night Of. Hanuka and these two clowns
have turned up and hopped on the little overbridge and opened.
Fire And Alex, ripchin AS i, said he's one of
the the leaders Of Australia's jewish, community he high tailed
it down To bondai when news broke of the, attack

(03:29):
praying That Rabbi Eli schlanger was not among the dead
because he was an absolute. Beacon apparently in The jewish.
Community AS i, say a dad only a month. Ago,
anyway he is among the dead and they're being born.
Today fifteen in total killed by these two. Gunmen Sajid
akram is the. Father he was shot and killed by
police at the. Scene twenty four year old Son. Navid

(03:52):
he remains in, hospital AS i, said critical. Condition there's
a whole bunch of other THINGS i can go through
with you at, lads if you. Like we've got we've
got in hospital as. Well The bondai massacre. Hero this guy.
Extraordinary we've all seen. Vision ahmed Al ahmed his. Name
he is the owner of a fruit shop down in Southern.

(04:14):
Sydney happened to be At Bondai beach apparently with the family.
Yesterday now he didn't run away like so many. People
they just ran for their. Lives they high tailed up
off the, beach straight Across Campbell parade and into whatever you,
Know heidi hole they could. Find it could be a,
cafe could be a, bar it could be a. Restaurant
not this, Fellow ahmed Al. Ahmed he snuck up on

(04:36):
the second gunment and jumped. Him he just came. Running
and we've all seen the business. Extraordinary it's absolute. Breathtaking
and so he was apparently shot. Twice not badly, hurt
but he. Was he was hit bad enough to go to.
Hospital he's been actually honored.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
In.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Israel he's now righteous among The, nations which is a
term that's apparently reserved for Non jews who risked their life.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Ray an, extraordinary extraordinary act of. Courage, yeah, absolutely how
did he Because i'm trying to work out, exactly you,
Know i've watched the footage a, Lot so how was
he shot during that that, heroaric heroic act.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
That we LOOK i don't know he he's taken the
shotgun off The it looks like a far because the,
son you, know the younger, man was back on the bridge,
right and it looks like the father now whether or
not the son is open fire as his dad was
running back towards towards the, bridge and this, Fellow ahmed

(05:44):
Al ahmed was he was back behind that tree with
the shotgun up against the. Tree SO i guess the
idea is he must have been he must have been,
wounded perhaps long. Distance we don't know exactly, precisely but
apparently he is in hospital but not. Critical forty others
are in. Hospital as we. Know the two people died

(06:07):
of a night at ten year old girl and a
forty year old. Man the ages of the victims ten
to eighty. Seven we understand one man died in the.
Beach he survived The holocaust and he died with his
wife of more than fifty. Years you've Got The Jewish
board Of deputies has confirmed it's recommended to every, synagogue

(06:29):
every childcare, center Every kosher restaurant In sydney please stay
shut until further. Notice the celebrations marking the first day Of,
hunaka The jewish, holiday canceled in Many australian cities last.
Night the two, gunman we understand based in A campsy
airbn b before the. Attack now police raded that property this.

(06:52):
Morning that earlier rate of the family home At bonnireg
also in Southwest, sydney so they must have been planning
this for a. While i've gone there to the. Teeth
the father was a licensed gun. Owner he had six
weapons registered with police and recovered six weapons as. Well
and the political side of, things, well the primary Of

(07:14):
New South wales has come out and said, listen everybody
who who cares about you know societal cohesion and SO
i put your arms around The jewish community. Today Anthia,
alberni of, course has been lashed by The jewish leadership In.
Israel Benjaminette yahu didn't mess nor to The Israeli President
Anthony alberanisi will not bite today other than to say

(07:37):
All australians condemned this. Attack but you, know the federal,
government it's you, know the. Players the nose in your
face has been accused for the last two, years ever
since that horrific attack in Southern israel By. Hamas i'm
not doing, enough not doing enough to crack down on
these clowns in. SOCIETY i Mean australia is one of
the most multi, racial multi faith societies in the. WORLD

(07:59):
i mean that's everyone's in migrant here unless you're, indigenous
and that this has just come as such a bloody.
Shock everyone's just gobsmacked by what's. Happened what does.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
This mean for The jewish community going forward In.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Australia, well it's very, strong, mate it's a very very strong.
Community they get strength from each, other they get strength
from their, faith they get strength from their education, institutions
and they get strength from Ordinary assis ordinary has got no,
problem no problem whatsoever With, jews With, muslims with any.

(08:33):
FAITH i, mean heavens, above we're all human, beings but
some warped and TWISTED i don't, know, ideology perhaps you.
Know AND i hope to find, out we hope to
find out how these two were. Radicalized perhaps it was Online,
ASIO i know our domestic security, agency it's the domestic spy,

(08:54):
organization if you. Will apparently did have tabs on one
of the pair with the younger, man but nothing was
done on. That and this is the. Result and boyere,
boy there's going to be some there's going to be
some questions at the very highest levels about how these.
Fellas we're not on the, Radar.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
I'm sure there will.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Be murray really appreciate you coming on and giving us your,
analysis and we might catch up with you a little
bit later on this.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Afternoon And tyler love to speak to you all the very. Best,
yeah and our thoughts going out to our cousins In.
Australia certainly that Is.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Murray old's Are australian a correspondent joining us now As Josh.
Rues he's an extremism expert and associate professor from politics
At Deacon. University who's on the line right, Now Doctor,
rue's very good afternoon to, you Go.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Affternoon there's always been, extremism is there more? Now and if,
so what is causing?

Speaker 6 (09:46):
It?

Speaker 7 (09:48):
Yeah, look in particular POST, covid we've seen a significant
escalation in both societal polarization meaning you, know binary thinking
everyone frames the world and good and, evil but also
in extremism and in particular in anti semitism Post october,
seventh it is absolutely rocket off the chart to here.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
In, australia, Right and how do you combat?

Speaker 7 (10:09):
That, well it requires really powerful political leadership and bipartisan.
Approaches so we've got to work across political, lines not
to seek to point, score but absolutely stand down on
anti semitism online and address the permissive environment that's allowed
it to. Flourish, unfortunately in the last couple of years in,

(10:32):
particular there's been a lot of permissiveness to. This it's
been allowed to flourish online and in our public.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Discourse Now Australian Prime Minister Anthony albanezi he said there
is no place for this hate violence terrorism in our.
Nation let me be, clear we will eradicate it is
it possible to eradicate.

Speaker 7 (10:52):
This there's certain steps that can be taken to hold
people to account for both spreading hatred online and in,
public but also in shutting down those, platforms for, example
that allowed to flourish as. Well this play out in
a number of ways we've seen, it and The jewish

(11:12):
community In australia in particular are really being squeezed. Between
on the one, hand they a RTIs who care for
their eradication and protesting in the streets carrying antithetic, placards
and on the other the online environment that's really flourished
with more the hard left and the illness extremists where

(11:34):
they Conflate judaism With, Zionism i'm Sorry zionism and Anti
semitism and basically say well we're not Anti, semitic we're
just Anti. Zionists and that's really also created a space
where people can say and do what they want and
get away with.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
It we are speaking to Doctor Josh, roos's associate professor
Of politics At Deacon. University, professor does this incident suggest
there's may be some gaps in current threat assessment models
that governments and police and other security officials.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
Use it's certainly incredibly difficult to, unpack particularly with witness
two individuals who were, related who had access to, firearms
and who may not have had a strong online. Signature
the problem, is, again that's the ecosystem in which they're

(12:23):
embedded online and. Engaging we know that The jewish community
has been telling us about the potential for a deadly
attack for several, years and quite, frankly we haven't. Listened
The Anti sebentism On boys report has been sitting in
a draw for the best part of four or five,
months and there's been a strong reluctance to engage With

(12:45):
jewish leaders about the dimensions of the. Threat where it
has been effective is targeting The iranian ambassador due To
iranian sponsorship of terrorism In, australia but also targeting the
extreme right and much more reluctant to have a conversation
About islamist extremism in particular and it's intersections with fire left.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
EXTREMISM i, mean is this a funding issue or a culture?
Issue is there an amount of money in resources that
you could spend to identify these people and protect The
jewish community or is this just going to grow? Online
if you see What i'm saying is there an amount

(13:26):
of money and resources that the government could throw at
this and solve.

Speaker 7 (13:29):
It no amount of resources are ever going to solve
the problem of extremism and. Terrorism this is ideologically, driven
and so someone who wants to carry out an attack
will at the very least put themselves in a position
where they. Could, however as a case in point for,
security what we saw was an event on a crowded

(13:51):
beach on A sunday afternoon where that attack appears to
have been carried out for at least five to ten
minutes based on the video circulating online That i've, seen
and whilst the police certainly put themselves in harms way
and did the best they, could questions must be raised
about the resources that are available to at the very

(14:12):
least protect the community in the instance of a public.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Event on an individual, level we've got a text to
hear that, says could you please ask what to do
if you know someone who is Anti semitic and very
loud about it? Online is this something that members of
the public can do when they spot this kind of.

Speaker 7 (14:31):
Rhetoric it's really challenging because people who are avoudly and
very openly Anti semitic have a much deeper set of
beliefs in which that's. Embedded it's usually about some sort
of conspiratorial framing of the, government this idea Of jewish
people behind the scenes pulling strings and making things happen

(14:52):
and are perceived in justice as they see it In,
gaza and so to that, extent it ties into a
deeper set of. Beliefs, now you can't tell someone who
has strong beliefs that they're wrong head, on because all
the research indicates that if you tell someone they're, wrong
they're just going to dig in. Further you've actually got
to allow them to say they're say their piece that
provide alternative, approaches provide alternative, viewpoints and start to get

(15:16):
them to question those beliefs over. Time it's a process
that takes a significant amount of, time but it's. Worked
that's got to be done because this is a problem
that's not going to go away.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Overnight, absolutely Doctor, ruse really appreciate your time this. AFTERNOON
i know you're very, busy so really appreciate you coming
on the.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Program no, problem thank.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
You that is Doctor Josh, Russ Associate professor Of politics
At Deacon university In. Australia it is twenty one past.
One back very. Shortly you're listening To matt And tyler the.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Big, stories the big, issues the big trends and everything in.
Between Matt heath And Tyler adams afternoons excuse, talks they'd.

Be very good.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Afternoons it is twenty four past. One there's a few
texts coming. Through on nine two ninety, two.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
The stixter, Says i'm eighty one born after the. War
the fact anti sinematism has returned like this is one
of the most shocking things that has happened in My,
yeah very good text that. ONE i was sitting with
my family says the sticks outside a christ church on
the weekend when A Free palestine protest came. Past one
of the protesters showed his plachyd towards, us and WHEN

(16:21):
i shook my head, gently he jested a slitting of
his throat and then pointed towards me and my. Son
it was. Terrifying there is serious violent anger out. There
that is. Horrendous. Matt the problem is even a psychopath
can look, normal because that is the thing about, terrorism isn't.
It they blend In.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yep absolutely keep those teachs coming through on nine to
nine to. Two coming up after the, break we are
going to give you some tips and some. Knowledge this
is written by police and the Z sis and many
other security experts about what you should do if you
ever find yourself into this. Situation important information more so than,
Ever so we will go through that very.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Shortly the sixths has looked like the hero was possibly
shot in the foot during this. STRUGGLE i, mean we
all would like to think that we could be heroes
in a situation like. This and, look we'll read out
the official advice on it on what the officials think
you should do under this kind of. Circumstance but what
that guy did is absolutely. Amazing and you, know we've

(17:24):
all seen the. Footage but then just the fact that
he's there and once he has the, gun he then
becomes a target for the police as. Well they don't
know what's going, on so he's risking his life in
a number of ways to stop this, evil evil man
who's shooting innocent. People and you, know there's just no

(17:44):
words to describe how incredible that. Is, yeah it's sort
of bravery hard to.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Comprehend, yeah absolutely, right it is twenty six past one
back very shortly with some of those PSAs on what
you should do back in a, mow.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
The headlines and the hard. Questions it's the mic Asking Breakfast.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Christopher lux and The Prime minister is in the studio with.
Us this debate Between nikola And ruth good.

Speaker 8 (18:08):
Idea, LOOK i, mean nikolaire is right to defend yourself
and defend our. Government AS i said to you last,
WEEK i do find it odd that THE tpu want
to encourage a radical labor agenda of text mus AND.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
I i want to say to you here that BECAUSE
i know you've probably got sympathies towards that side of.

Speaker 8 (18:22):
Things we have lowered in.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Text i'm not going to defend your taxpayers union in.
THIS i think they're just trying to get more for school,
discipline WHICH i don't think is a bad.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Idea but is this debate of good? Idea like this
thing has just got legs of a.

Speaker 8 (18:32):
Turn it's gone, nutty LIKE i don't know at the
bottomlight is THAT i think she's right to defend.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Herself either Duper See allen on the mic Casting breakfast
back tomorrow at six am With bailey's real. Estate on news,
talks there'd.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Be afternoon to. You it's twenty eight past, one so
we're here's what the you. Know The Official New Zealand
Police world on what to do if you end up
in a situation like, This God god forbid and they
they push scape hide tel yep so escape. Escape if

(19:05):
you see a safe way, out leave the. Area, immediately
move quickly and quietly from danger if it is safe
to do. So take your mobile phone with you if you,
can but do not go back to get it if
it puts you in. Danger leave other belongings. Behind encourage
others to go with, you but don't let their hesitation
slow you. Down if you can, out escape completely, hide

(19:27):
stay out of sight and silence your mobile. Phone secure
your environment by locking doors and windows and barricading entries where.
Possible stay away from doors and be as quiet and
still as possible so you do not give away your hiding.
Place note any potential exit. Points as soon as it's
safe to, leave Do soad advice and tell police by

(19:48):
calling one one one when it is. Safe the more
information you can give about your, location, surroundings the, attackers
and the events that, occurred the better you may be
asked to stay on the line and provide further information
with the operator requests or if the situation, changes if
it is safe to do, so try to obtain the
following information exact location of the, incident description of the

(20:09):
offender offenders and whether they are moving in any particular.
Direction so, escape hide and. Tell that is not what
that hero. Did, no and At bondi he did not,
escape hide or, tell but he did get shot for.
It he, did but he did save a whole lot of.
Lives incredible. Bravery that is the weird catch twenty. Two

(20:29):
in the, situation we've got to absolutely celebrate that man
for the great thing he. Did but you cannot in any,
way you, know blame anyone for hiding and escaping.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Exactly yeap when someone's got a. Gun but that is good.
Advice if you want to read. That that is on
The New Zealand police. Website and there will be plenty
more to come on that horrific shooting as the afternoon.
Progresses if there's any breaking, news you will of course
hear it.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
First and CAN i just say there are some sick
people texting in on nine two ninety two and WITH
i don't eve want to say. IT i don't want
to twist. IT i only want to get any oxygen
to some of the stuff that's been seid. Here these
Were australians On Bondai, beach you, know celebrating The Festal

(21:17):
festival Of lights with their. Families it was a family.
Event so any of you people that are texting this
in with your whataboutism and with your context that you're
giving this yuck.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Shame, yeah, no, awful, awful all. Right coming up after the,
headlines we are going to change tanked a little, bit
as we. Say if there's any more news on that
mass shooting And, bondi we will bring it to you.
First but we want to have a chat about the
year of twenty twenty. Five Great peace By Liam dan
you know and. Well he reflects on the widespread sense
that the year was economically tough for many of, us

(21:52):
but he, said while public sentiment often focused on the
negative slower growth, HEADLINE, gdp disappointments and persistent cost of living,
pressures the broader economic picture shows a more mixed reality
over the. Years some good data was starting to come
through in the later part of this.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Year so that's what we want to have a.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Chat how would you actually rate twenty twenty five for
you love to hear from? You oh eight hundred eighty
ten eighty or nine to nine? Two was this a
terrible year as everybody said for? You or were there
some glimmers of? Hope really can never chat with? You
oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty as that number.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
To, call there were bright lights of. Hope nicely see
it in. Parts, yep we've got into the cycle of
just running everything down.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Them we have it as twenty eight to two headlines
coming up then taking your.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Calls you talk savy headlines with blue bubble.

Speaker 6 (22:40):
Taxis it's no trouble with a blue Bubble australian authorities
so two improvised explosive devices were found at the scene
of The Bondai terra. Attack sixteen people are dead and
more than forty in hospital after two, gunmen a father and,
son opened fire at A Jewish hanaker. Celebration the half
year economic and fiscal update will be unveiled, tomorrow with

(23:03):
some economists expecting a projected surplus to be pushed out
by Another Chris luckson says the reports were completed In,
october so believes it's not a current view of the,
economy which he says has strengthened since the government's finished
its contract with the last remaining emergency motel in Rut,
deadua with the final family now in stable. Housing at its,

(23:26):
peak the city had around three hundred families in thirteen
the hotels motels that is mainly on the main thoroughfare
Of Fenton. Street the search is on for the designer
Of wellington's next big. Sculpture The City gallery is set
to reopen early next year and is looking for A
kiwi born artist to create a major outdoor. Sculpture Uber

(23:48):

find out more at Enzid Herald premium are back to
Matt Ethan Tyler.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Adams thank you very, Much. Rayleen it's twenty four to,
two so we won't to have a. Chat in regards
To Liam dan's latest articles as end of year review
and he reflects on the widespread sense that the year
was economically tough In New, Zealand so we asked the
question is that really the? Truth because of that public
sentiment often focused on the. Negatives as we, know there's
a lot of doom and, gloom slower, growth HEADLINE gdp,

(24:17):
disappointments and persistent cost of living. Pressures but when he dived,
in he actually found the broader economic picture was a mixed.
Reality official economic data through the year included stronger than
expected first QUARTER gdp, growth suggesting the economy was on
a greater footing than the headlines would. Suggest and of
course we've got new fiscal figures coming out. Tomorrow but

(24:38):
the question we put to you, is how was twenty
twenty five for? You despite the doom and gloom and
the negative, headlines how would you rate your year in
twenty twenty? FIVE o one hundred and eighty ten eighty
is that?

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Number being welcome to the, show.

Speaker 9 (24:52):
You get, it.

Speaker 10 (24:52):
Guys so this year is a heck of a lot
better than last. Year it's like a freesher brief. Here
so my wife's back at work after being laid off last.
Year our mortgage repayment set down twelve thousand dollars for the,
year amongline last. Year and, yeah, LOOK i acknowledge a
lot of people doing it, tough and like we were

(25:14):
in that boat last, year Like christmas went on the
credit card last. Year this year completely. Different. Story we're
just we're saving. Again the nice to havebs that we
cut back on we can now. Afford, yeah it's definitely
a different, year.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
And you see that around friends and family as, well
or do you think that you were in an isolated
situation of good.

Speaker 10 (25:38):
Luck pretty much the people that own their own homes
that had, mortgages we've definitely seen. That we're friends and
family a change in how they are this, year and
they're just simply better. Off but people that are renting
in that that we, know we sort of haven't really
seen a.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
Change is that optimism that you're, feeling is that something
that's come to the fore in the last couple of
months been or is it just you look back in
the year and there was a lot of doom and
gloom and a lot of let's be honest when you
about you, Know New zealand's not going in the right.
Direction but is that a new found optimism that now
we've reached the end of the, year a lot of
people looking back and, say, actually there were some good
things this, YEAR a lot of really good.

Speaker 10 (26:19):
THINGS i THINK i think come come About. September that's
when it really started really started becoming great.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
And why and, yeah sorry you carry, On, yeah.

Speaker 10 (26:34):
It's coming to the end of. Winter refix the Moll.
Rige just just things didn't seem to be going up
as much as what they had, been and just our
financial position just seemed to be a lot better than
what it was twelve months.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Ago, well thank you so much for you Call ben
This texas says your right wing show attracts unempathetic right
wing extremists and that was all in. Capitals so is
it is it right wing to be? Positive? So is
it so if you're not being incredibly negative and just saying,
despite you, Know, liam and providing some evidence that there's

(27:09):
some positives out. There, yeah if you don't just rant
and rave about how bad it, is you're a right wing.
EXTREMIST i don't think it's news to. ME i don't
Think ben was a right wing. Extremist he just said
that his mortgage payments were down and things were going
a bit better in his.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Life being positive as right wing, extremism who would have
thought keep those takes coming through on nine to nine?
Two how would you rate your year of twenty twenty
five with all the doom and gloom and? Winging what
were the good parts that you thought happened to your
life in twenty twenty. Five love to hear from you
ON o eight hundred eighty ten Eighty it is twenty to.
Two beg very shortly.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
A fresh take on. Talkback It's Matt heath And Taylor adams.
Afternoons have your say on eight hundred eighty ten EIGHTY Us.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
Talks they'd be very good afternoon. Too so we're talking
about how your year was in twenty twenty. Five there's
been a lot of doom and gloom and some negative,
headlines but how was it really for? You did you
get a couple of wins on the? Board love to
hear from, You, oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty is
the number to.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Call, yeah let's celebrate the wins negatively as a self
of filling. Prophecy twenty twenty six will be better for,
rule says this. Text, guys the people in the left
persuasion don't like to hear good. News, well what really
the situation is is that opposition parties will always run
down whatever whatever's happening right because they want to get
back in. Power So Chris hapkins is going, hard you,

(28:28):
know spitting, vermin vermin on the vermin vermin venom.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Venom, yeah spitting vermin would be something that would be.
Something yeah kind of. Fits, yeah don't feel like he spits.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Vermin, sometimes as all opposition parties, do they describe the
current situation as horrific and they want to terrify you
into voting for. Them absolutely fears a good. Motivator it's
the government that's in. Power we'll talk things up and
somewhere in the middle of the.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Truth exactly nine two ninety two is the text. Number,
oh eight hundred and eighty ten eighty is the Number
i'm going to, say you, know just our own year looking,
back and Obviously i've been incredibly, lucky but work very
hard as. Well but WHEN i started to focus on
the actual positive happening and surrounding myself with people thinking that,
way immeserably life got, better you, know because it's that

(29:15):
perception meets. Reality but for, example going out this weekend
and we were lucky enough to be On Ponsonby road
and seeing how many people were out and about enjoying
their lives and getting amongst it and spending their hard
earn cash with, hospitality which is a good. Thing BUT
i look at that. Situation look the weather, Helps it's
summer now and everyone's very. Excited but that change in
thinking Because i've got to, SAY i fell into the

(29:37):
doom and gloom earlier this, year AND i didn't like
myself for. It but overall our year has been. Great
there's been a couple of. Challenges, yes some things have
got more, expensive other, things Like ben, said the mortgage
has started to. Reduce all in, All i'm feeling incredibly
positive about next.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Year well you, go, look he Goes. Kate twenty twenty.
Five for, Me kat was pretty. GOOD i started a
pie company and won awards for my. Pies in twenty twenty,
Six i'm looking forward to my Bizz cake's nine pies
selling a million. Pies look, out, world go. Again well
we met. Catch she came in and brought us some
of our pies and go get. Her, yeah what a
Great New. Zealander she is a great r TEAM i

(30:13):
have loved twenty twenty, five lived within our. Means my
wife and boys are. HAPPY i fulfilled a boyhood dream
of owning a brand New. HARLEY i get to live
in the greatest country in the, world AND i am forever.
Grateful twenty twenty six is going to be even. Better
bring it, On jimmy From. Palmi good on, You. Jimmy
hope you're loving That harley as. Well what a great, bite,
lads Says. Grant it has been mentioned on The My
Costing show that there is noise that THE q TWO

(30:35):
gdp figure is to be adjusted to a. Positive if it,
does then all the negative press has done a lot of.
Damage we will know On, Thursday. GRANT i, mean that's.
Interesting if everyone's been saying things are terrible and then
the stats come out and they. Weren't that is really
a perception the reality, situation isn't It absolutely if they've

(30:56):
collected the, data because you know that that happens is,
often you, know it often gets, regraded, yes these, situations
then that'll be a really weird thing to look at and,
go how different would our mentality be if we've just
been given another set of, Digits, yeah one hundred, percent
and these digits don't necessarily directly affect your, life then these,

(31:17):
numbers you, know because it's the economy and the whole
who knows we're actually you're operating in the, economy but
we have had this thing that everything's. Bad you can't
you can blink without someone yelling cost of living crisis at.

Speaker 6 (31:30):
You.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Exactly you cannot say anything positive without someone, saying, oh
looky for, you it sucks. Here, no my life is.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Terrible oh one hundred eighty ten eighty is a number to, Call.
Carl how are?

Speaker 11 (31:40):
You i'm, good, thanks guys?

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Yourself, yeah very. Good so what was the best thing
about twenty twenty five for, you my?

Speaker 11 (31:46):
Friend, well for, me the best thing was we never
Had napkins as The prime, minister and we didn't have
the list of extreme parties anywhere near the government books
UNTIL i take Them wilder for the country to get
out of the situation it's in but cheap as when
you hear What chloe and her cohorts are saying about

(32:07):
taxing this cats in that we'll have no industry left
In New zealand to get the country back on its.
Feet So i'm absolutely. HAPPY i know we're near the
box at the.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
Month what do you think about the taxpayer union that
think that the government that we have is a bunch
of you, know, overspending irresponsible for. School i'm looking for
the worst.

Speaker 6 (32:32):
To be to be.

Speaker 11 (32:33):
Fair it doesn't matter what governments and that lot known
about everything the exact negative thing for you guys are talking,
about you, know if we had a bit of, growth
are to be something that's paulsed that And i'm just over.
THEM i don't really listen to.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Them, Yeah and so overall you've kept a pretty positive
mindset over twenty twenty, Five, Car.

Speaker 12 (32:54):
YEAH i think. So you, know the country got into
a bit of a. Whole everyone's blaming this government and,
hey you do you know there's.

Speaker 11 (33:04):
Things here that this government is sort.

Speaker 12 (33:06):
Of dropping the ball at and stuff like. That BUT
i think.

Speaker 11 (33:12):
Or on all things are on a positive note and
they go in the right. Way and when you get
a situation we've been, in you can't really expect the
government and turn it around in two years and make
it all. Rosy it's going to take.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Time, yeah thanks for your, Call. Carl this text pushes
back on all this. Positivity it's been a brutal year
for business. OWNERS a lot of good OPERATORS i know
have wound things back or shut down, entirely not because
there's no, work but because working capital has been drained
and uncertainty is. High even if activity lives many businesses
simply can't fund. Expansion with policy and economic signals jumping,

(33:46):
around it's hard to know when to deploy capital versus
preserve it for, now, survival, liquidity and optionality matter more
than growth for growth. Stake, yeah that. Is but you,
know any economists will say that perception and mood is
a huge part of an economy and that uncertainty that
you're talking about there and where they should, grow and

(34:08):
a lot of that is is just the, mood and
the mood isn't often tied to the. Facts and really
What liam down here Is liam down here saying is
that maybe the facts don't line up with the misery
that is being projected out. There, yeah BUT i mean
absolutely feel for these business owners that are doing it. Tough,
absolutely because you, know if your business shuts, down it
doesn't matter how positive people say things. Are AS i

(34:31):
was saying, before with the data and your mood and
you're part of the. Business if you're trying to run
a business and you think you're running it well and
you're working really hard and you shut, down there's no
amount of radio idiots going on about positivity going to
change your. Mind that twenty twenty five was a tough. Year,
yeah very.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
True if you're a business, owner love to hear from.
You do you share that? SENTIMENT i, wait one hundred
eighty ten eighty is that number to call back for?

Speaker 6 (34:55):
You?

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Shortly it is eleven to.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Two Matd Heath Taylor adams taking your calls. On, oh
eight hundred and eighty ten. Eighty it's Mad Heathen Taylor
adams afternoons News, Talks envy News.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
Talks so we're talking about an Article William dan has
published on The New Zealand herald website where he analyzes
the economic. Data there's been a lot of doom and
gloom and wondering about how bad the economy, is but
as he says on his, piece there were certainly a
lot of shining lights when it comes to the.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Data so how do you rate your?

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Own twenty twenty five or one hundred and eighty ten
eighty is the number to call pared?

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Money how are? You i'm?

Speaker 13 (35:33):
Good thank?

Speaker 2 (35:33):
You how are you very? Good how was this year for?

Speaker 14 (35:35):
YOU i think this year was.

Speaker 13 (35:39):
Good late twenty FOUR i used to work for a
tail call a telecom. COMPANY i mean we're looking at
redundancies THAT i landed a job In march this, year
and a really good, one So i'm very, grateful pared
better than my previous, salary and towards the end of
the year seemed to be getting calls from random consultants

(36:00):
talking about openings in twenty. Six, YEAH i definitely. THINK
i think things are looking. Brighter And i'm not right
bringer sorry for those people Think i'm a right. WINGER
i just think overall things are looking.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Better do you, remember, though when we were all being
told survived till twenty five and now we're coming to
the end of twenty six and we're all going twenty
six and they pick up. STICKS i think of a.

Speaker 13 (36:22):
Rhyme, YEAH i think it's also. Perspective, really we should
be not we should be we could be grateful that
we're living in such a good, country lovely, people so
many nice things happening for. Us, yeah that's WHAT i.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Think, yeah A, brillian thank you so much for your. Call,
really what with all the strikes for many in the,
country it can't be. Good why are there all these
strikes if things are so? Good, WELL i guess it's
good for the, unions you know it gently they're getting to,
wield you, know you become a union leader because you
want to be involved in the industry. Reaction, yep, yep one hundred.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
Percent then they use that as as some sort of
political stick as, well no doubt about. It, oh one
hundred and eighty to eighty is the number to, Call,
Dave welcome to the.

Speaker 10 (37:06):
Show, yeah here the snow.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Today all the, right, Mate all. Alright we're a couple
of beautiful unit snowflakes in the studio and never been
anyone delicate and the beautiful and unique as. US i
wear that with, Pride, dave seat a little bit, Though, YEAH.

Speaker 5 (37:25):
I don't want to bring the black dog to your.
Show it's been good to hear positivity from people in
the year that they've. Had it has definitely not been
a good year for my. BUSINESS i actually come up
with a new mantra that survived to twenty twenty. FIVE
i came up with one for twenty twenty, five and
it was hold on to you till twenty twenty.

Speaker 15 (37:43):
Six shi two, right, okay, yep, right, yeah.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
Yeah just remember, guys That Alliance meets closed Down tamoru
with six hundred job. Losses this, Year Blue sky meets
with another one in, gore and that was six hundred
jobs directly with. Allions they said it could have been
double with the indirect job losses out of, that and
overall across the country in the last eighteen, months over

(38:06):
sixteen and a half thousand jobs were lost in the construction,
industry so that it really was. DIRE i usually have
good blockings going, forward AND i had months throughout twenty
twenty five when the phone didn't even. Ring DID i
never had a plan to, price and we were we

(38:26):
were barely treating water and. BUSINESS i had quite a
few friends that actually liquidated out and went and got,
jobs and we decided we were going to try and
hang in there and see what was going to develop
into twenty twenty. Six has anything developed.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
As you are you seen anything developing without a.

Speaker 5 (38:43):
Doubt it's absolutely. EXPLODING i now am solidly booked Until
may next year so. Far so you, know have we
been in the industry for twenty?

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Years there must feel good to it have to withered the,
storm and you know the anxiety around the phone not
ringing for it to ring, again that must be, yeah good, Feeling.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
Dave, Absolutely, look my children have grown up and gone
away now having families of their. Own i'm nearly mortgage.
Free we don't carry any. DEBT i think that really
helped us. Through we had a pretty bad financial loss
for the twenty twenty four to twenty twenty five. YEAR
i Know i'm going to have a financial loss for
the twenty twenty five and into twenty twenty. Six hopefully
it won't be so. Bad we're working hard now and

(39:24):
we are real, solid like you, Said, yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Sorry, dave we've got the news coming in.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Hot what a good man, though keep, Fighting, dave and
your sounds like you certainly. Are and that's what it
takes eight hundred and eighty ten eighty as a number to.
Call we'll carry this on after two o'clock because we're
getting so many ticks coming. Through but love to hear from.
You how would you rate your twenty twenty five year.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
And all the? Best? Dave think if your?

Speaker 3 (39:45):
Call, yeah what a good man news sport and we're
the coming up but taking your. CALLS i eight hundred
and eighty ten eighty the ticks number nine two ninety, two.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
Talking with you all. Afternoon It's Matt heath And Tyler
adams afternoons News talks.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
It'd be very good. Afternoons you welcome back into the.
Show it is six past two and we have been
talking about a piece By Liam dan And The. Herald
so it's his end of year review for twenty twenty
five and he did a deep dive into the fiscal
and economic numbers that we've seen throughout the, year, because
as he mentioned in the, article there's been a lot
of doom and, gloom a lot of winginge that things

(40:21):
are no good here In New, zealand and he found
out that is just not the.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Reality, well, yeah he's found that we avoided a deep
procession and a deep financial, shock inflation pressures showing signs of,
eavening and the worst case economic scenarios did not fully.
Eventuate of, course there are still cost of living. Pressures
recovery expectations went unmet this year to the level that

(40:46):
some people were talking about with the survived twenty five
and public confidence and morale stayed. Low AND i think
that's a part of, it isn't It that the word
was that things were, terrible and they were for some,
people but the general malaise has been sitting over the
country and you, know economy is perception as well as you.

(41:06):
Know everyone knows that the markets are based on how
people are. Feeling.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Yeah, yeah when you're more, optimistic you spend more, money
no doubt about.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
It Positive he grows, positivity grows, positivity grows. Positivity hey,
guys twenty twenty five for me has been not. Bad,
yes things are on the, increase but there are options
by less or by a different, brand or go. Without for,
Me i've survived a restructure at the COMPANY i worked,
for but decided it might be an opportunity to see
what else is out there that will give me stability
That i'm looking. FOR i started a new role in

(41:36):
twenty twenty. SIX i started You roll in twenty twenty,
six looking forward to. This have enjoyed a family holiday
overseas and made memories with the grandchildren that you cannot
put a price. On you will always find someone that
is not, happy and we all need to be grateful and.
Happy we have what we have and live where we.
Are Merry christmas to you and all the. Listeners see
that's positivity right.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
THERE i got a great. TEXT o, wait one hundred
and eighty ten eighty is the number to? Call how
would you describe your. Year in twenty twenty, FIVE.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
I was talking to AND i can't give any details on,
this so people will probably go ballocks just making it,
up BUT i can say what they. LOT i Swear
i'm not making this. UP i was talking to THE
ceo of a Major New zealand company and he was
saying that things in his business are going absolutely crazy right.
Now he said that he had a board meeting and they,

(42:26):
said we need to hire five hundred people. Today. Wow so,
today if we could get five hundred people, today then
then we could for fully fulfill what we need to
do to maximize what we're trying to. Do how good is?
That and so he was saying to me, that you,
know you, know he's A he described his business as
a canary in the coal mines type situation, yep and

(42:48):
saying that you, know you, know in twenty twenty four
they were getting really bad signals and as the end
of twenty twenty, five he could can't believe how much
is coming through the. System so if he's the canary
in the coal mine, industry then the canary's plump and
having a good time down the coal mines and singing.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
Loudly, yeah very. Happy that is great to. Hear, yeah
under eighteen eighty is the number to, Call. Penny how are?

Speaker 14 (43:12):
You, Oh i'm, fine thank, you.

Speaker 12 (43:16):
Lots of.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Fluffies, Yes and how have you gone this? Year how
are things looking like for?

Speaker 5 (43:20):
You it's been pretty.

Speaker 14 (43:21):
Crap actually, no it's been a rough and hard. Year
but you, see we're, discretional so we have workshops for women.
PREDOMINANTLY i mean men come, too but it's predominantly. Women
and we've BEEN i, mean it's been a tough couple of,
years but this year has been particularly, bad AND i

(43:42):
think it's because because we're, discretional people, say, well DO
i pay the power bill or DO i go to?
Pottery or DO i buy the kids new? Shoes or
DO i go to? Pottery and we fall off the.
List and we've had a lot of people say to,
us we just can't afford. It it's not in our.
Budget so we're hanging in. There we hang in. There

(44:07):
we're reduced where we, can we've economized where we, can
so we'll see it. Through but we are hopeful of
the twenty twenty six that's going to allow people to
do sorry to do that discretion will spend rather than
the essential.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
Spend can hear?

Speaker 7 (44:25):
That?

Speaker 3 (44:25):
Yeah, no can you hear the positivity in your? Voice,
soapenny clearly it has been tough for, you and as
you say the pottery, STUDIO i understand that, is you,
know for many people out there that just don't have
that expendable. Income, maybe but that, positivity it sounds like
it is getting you through and you still have to
keep optimistic that things will will get a bit better next.

Speaker 14 (44:44):
Year you've just got to sort of swing and, twist you.
Know so if you do what you've always, done you'll
always get what you've always. Got something like, that isn't.
It so we look to, say, okay so how can
we do this? Differently how can we not change what
we're doing because we believe that what we've got is,
good but how can we add to? That so two

(45:05):
years ago we added a mobile, studio so we go
out into the rural areas taking pottery once a, month
which is working well all, right ALTHOUGH i have noticed
it this year it's it's been a bit more of a.
Push but everybody's, saying, oh, well we'll be back next.
Year we'll be back next, year and that's your rural.
Communities so, yeah there's life at the end of the

(45:27):
tunnel where we're not doom and. Gloom you, know you
do get to the point where you Just i'm.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Exhausted, yeah, yeah, Absolutely but keep fighting the good, Fight,
Penny and it sounds like you've got the right mentality
to push through and hopefully things pack up a bit
for you guys next.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Year i'll tell you. What the solution to some people
is a change of. Government. Labor this one says national
killing the economy label will fix it like they always.
Do resist text it said labor are still? Dicks go
national in twenty twenty. Six, AH i wonder if that'll
be the national slogan on their. Billboard labor are still?

(46:04):
Dicks vote? National it gets, through wouldn't it totely get
some cut? Through is that the level of the political
discourse that we. Reach we'll send that To Christopher lux
And steve and see what they. Say you guys are. Dicks.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
YEAH i eight one hundred eighty ten eighty is that
number to call love to hear how you would rate
your year of twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
Five so this is nice From troy. Team i've had
a challenging, year but listening to you two good buggers
always makes me. Smile we have a roof over our,
head and my wife and three boys have food in their,
belly AND i can still afford a cheeky bearer to
clearly life is good From. Troy bless Your. Troy thanks
for the. Text that's a nice thing to. Say, yeah
what a good.

Speaker 3 (46:40):
MAN i eight one hundred eighty ten Eighty and just
on the back Of troy's, TEXT i mean it comes
down to what are you're grateful? For so there might
be a lot few challenges you've faced this, year BUT
i think all of us could maybe look back at
the year that's been and, say you know, what even
though there were a few, challenges there are a few.
Wins there's gotta be a lot to be grateful for
for being in this beautiful.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Country twenty twenty five has been an absolute pain in
the ass and has beaten me. Down this is text To,
tyler you, know a couple of stormy clouds for your.
Positivity the positive positive that everyone should take is that
we made it through and get to give it another
go next. Year see that's the. Thing, yeah that's the fighting.

Speaker 3 (47:18):
Talk that's you. Know it might have kicked your ars
and beating you. Down but you're still in the. Fight
you're still got to keep.

Are it will beat you to your knees and keep
you there permanently if you let. It me Or nobody's
gonna hit as hard as. Life but it ain't about
how hard you. Hit it's about how hard you can

Call few texts before we get to play some messages out.
Here this one's a good, one, okaday. Guys we're in
construction in this government has done not good things for our.
Industry deploying capital was incredibly hard when start dates keep
shifting and projects are constantly being pushed. Out we've made

(49:58):
okay money over the last six, months but earlier bad
debts and write offs from so many companies going into
liquidation have been, heartbreaking especially see people with forty plus
years in the industry. Disappears we're all hoping things are
going to pack up next year and we're not going
to stop going. Hard thank you very much for that.
Text nine two ninety two is that. Number it's not

(50:19):
how high you get.

Speaker 2 (50:19):

Merry christmas to one and all, Cheers.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
Malcolm good on Your, Malcolm, well thank you very much
to everyone who called and text on.

Speaker 2 (50:40):
THAT i, mean there is a lot of positivity out
there from the.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
Text there's you, know there's a there's a few people
who are a bit, stall a bit, glum but you,
know As rocky, said.

Speaker 2 (50:48):
Yeah get That rocky. Audio get them audio from two
thousand and, six great Movie Rocky belbo and play that
to yourself every. Morning, yeah that's a good rack up
for a.

Speaker 3 (50:59):
Morning every morning you just listen To rocky and get
back up off that mat right coming up after we
play some, messages what do you do if you find
yourself in a men shooter? Event obviously the very horrific
news out Of australia with that mass shooting A bondo.
Beach Lance burdette he spent twenty two years as a
police officer becoming the league crisis. Negotiator he knows his
stuff and he is going to be with us to

(51:21):
go through what you should do if you do find
yourself in that. Situation that is coming up. Next it
is twenty past.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
Two Matt Heathan Tyler adams afternoons call oh eight hundred
and eighty ten eighty On News TALK zb very good.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
Afternoon she it is twenty three three pass two excuse?
Me so on the back of the horrific news of
the mass shooting In Bondo, Beach what should you do
if you find yourself in a mass shooter? Event Lance
burdette spent twenty two years as a police, officer becoming
the lead crisis. Negotiator he was described as the most
qualified and highly skilled negotiator within The New Zealand, police
training with the elect tactical units of, Police, Corrections, Fire

(52:00):
military and THE. Fbi he also oversaw the protection of
The Prime minister and those on The Witness protection, program
so he.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
Certainly knows his.

Speaker 3 (52:07):
Stuff And Lance burdette joins us Now lance for a
good Afternoons.

Speaker 18 (52:11):
You, good aughnon guys there are going very.

Speaker 2 (52:14):
Good what's the very first thing people should do when
they realize they're involved in an active shooter or terror?

Speaker 7 (52:21):
Situation, yeah heaven for what a terrible situation to.

Speaker 18 (52:25):
Be and the first thing, is if you happen to
be right in the center of what's going, on is
just drop on the. Floor and whether it it's, outside
drop wherever you, are just drop on the ground and
lie as flat as you, can don't go into a
ball or because you're a bigger, Target so it's as
flat as you. Can and then if you have the,
opportunity it's called run high tael or some use the

(52:48):
it's called escape hightail. Escapers if you're in a, building
so the idea is not to hang, around running the
opposite direction to where the shooting's coming. From that's the best,
opportunity to be. Honest if you lie on the ground
for too, long the chances are there's a higher, Risk
so you get up and run as far away as you.
Can now caren't, like for, example you're in a building

(53:10):
and you can't get out of the, building there is
to get into a room and barricade that, room and
once you're in a safe, position then you call for.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
Police in crowded, situations is often a long time before
people you, Know i've seen a lot of this, footage,
horrible horrible footage in my, time and people just don't
know what's happening for it for a long. Time so
what warning signs should trigger immediate reaction and action rather than.

Speaker 18 (53:34):
Hesitation so really it's about there's a technique called the star.
Technique it's one THAT i recommend AND i do in
my training. Workshops you stop what you're, doing you, think,
act and then. Review now the stop is obviously you
stand where you are for a, moment and then the
only way you can, think because you'll be in possibly

(53:55):
in fight or flight or unknowing what's, happened just breathe out.
Now if you were to do it right, now if
anyone listening would do it right. Now you breathe out
as slowly as you can and breathe out. Fully all
of a, sudden you become. Real so when we breathe,
in our heart rate goes, up which looks what we're
wired to do for fight or. Flight take a, big deep,
breath and then we'll so the faster you, breathe the faster,

(54:16):
heart the faster the. Head so you breathe out and
just hold for a, moment and that'll give you the
idea of something's not, right because it's almost like having
been in a few situations like, this it's like a
dream kind of dream. World you go into everything seems,
unreal and so the idea is to really try and
snap yourself out of. That so breathing out does. That

(54:38):
and then once something, happens you can't hang. Around the
other thing humans are trained to do is help each,
other And i'm afraid to say that's the last thing
you should be. Doing you're better off getting away and
being able to tell emergency services what's going on once
you get out to a safe.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Place, well it's interesting in the last twenty four, hours
so we've seen this hero AT bondi taking down this
evil man and he's being rightly lauded as a. Hero
but so, when if, ever is fighting back the right.

Speaker 18 (55:07):
Option so when you're trapped or when you happen to
be close to the, situation if you think you're able
to do, it the idea is to grab the, weapon
not the. Person so don't grab a, person grab the
weapon and then you can steer it into the ground
and just scream out for and scream as loud and

(55:27):
you know it is a horrible word you can think,
of so that somebody will come and help. You so
you grab it down to the.

Speaker 2 (55:34):
Ground you grab the, weapon not the. Person that's interesting
because he jumped around the shoulders and he did get,
shot BUT i think he's going to be all. Right
but you, say just grab the. Weapon, well that's the
weapons the.

Speaker 18 (55:47):
Danger so if you can grab that and push it
down to the ground and then force the person backwards
and just keep pushing them backwards and they'll trip. Up
that's the idea of. It but, look it's easy to,
say hard.

Speaker 3 (55:57):
To, do, Right, yeah, Absolutely so what about people who
they might know this technique or the situation and they
feel that they can do the breathing and get a
handle on the situation more than others around them because
it is such a, panicked terrifying situation to be. In
would they be better to try and direct people out
the escape or to try and do what they can

(56:18):
to make it easy for other People or that's the wrong.
Advice even if you can keep your head, clear the
advice still should be to get yourself.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
Out you need to focus on. Yourself, WELL i.

Speaker 18 (56:28):
Think if you're trained in some, way then you go
along with your. Training now that any emergency, services not just,
police are trained to run to the, danger not run
away from. It and so if you have that sort of,
experience or you're in security, industry then by all, means
if you feel that you're able to help and feel
that you're able in, control then please do get involved

(56:49):
as much as you, can and that is by getting
as many people away as possible to reduce the likelihood of.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
Casualty, now of course these are chaotic situations when police.
Arrive so how should people behave when police do turn
up to avoid being mistaken for a, threat because we've
all seen that happen with some of the police don't
what's going on, then and they can be collateral.

Speaker 18 (57:11):
Damage it's never run towards. Police it's just to stand
where you are or just again lie down on the.
Ground the chances are when police arrive they don't know
who is the threaten who, isn't and if you're running towards,
them you can get, hurt particularly if they can't see your.
Hands so the idea is to stand where you are

(57:32):
and not run towards, them and let the police come towards.
You drop on the, ground lie as flat as you,
can and if you can put you lock your hands
in behind your head so that they can see that
your hands are locked and that you have no, weapon
and they will feel. Safe and what they'll do, is
in most occasions they just tend to arrest. Everything you,
know not so much, arrest but detain, everybody and so

(57:55):
you might put you in place to cuff see it.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
And then and then work out who's the, wrong the
workout what's.

Speaker 18 (58:00):
Happened Yet, yep we're.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
Talking About Lance, berdett who's spent twenty two years as
a police officer becoming lead crisis. Negotiator now it's an
incredible rare event these kind of things in a country
Like New. ZEALAND i, mean it does, happen but they are.
Rare how much time should keep we spend worrying about
this kind of thing compared to other threats and everyday.

Speaker 18 (58:18):
Life, look you've got a much higher chance of having
a serious motor accent than you do having anything else
happening to, You so you, know focusing on what you can.
Control these things are highly, unlikely as you, say but
they do happen on. Occasion it really is about just
thinking about what AM i going to? Do so AND
i just three THINGS i talk about is, stop breathe,

(58:41):
Out and then you think, yourself SHOULD i stay or
SHOULD i? Leave and that's the only thing that you
should ever do in every. Situation AND i make a
joke about SHOULD i stay or SHOULD i? Go so
you stand still breathe. Out AM i going to stay?
Here AM i going to?

Speaker 16 (58:54):
Leave?

Speaker 18 (58:55):
That your first decision and every single emergency situations it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (58:58):
Change and speaking of, breathing on another, Issue you've got
a fantastic, Book anxiety as A, worry and there's there's
a lot of stuff in that about breathing THAT i
personally found very. Helpful you're a Great New.

Speaker 18 (59:09):
Zealander, great thank, You, oh thank you very. Much shocking
for Kind.

Speaker 3 (59:13):
It's great to have you on the program as, Always,
lance thank you very much for your, expertise and you
have a Good christmas In New year and we'll catch
up in twenty twenty. Six that Is Lance. Burdette he
was a police officer for twenty two. Years he became
the league crisis. Negotiator so some very timely advice, there
thank you very. Much right coming up after the, headlines
this is going to be an interesting. Chat So shaquille,

(59:34):
O'Neil one of the most FAMOUS nba stars of all.
Time he is set to undergo lip reduction. Surgery so
the fifty three year old former professional, player who had
previously had big toe surgery and a hip, replacement wants
to make his lips, smaller he told A US tv
Show Entertainment. Tonight so interesting From shaquille O'Neil was a

(59:55):
fifty three year old to get some plastic. Surgery but
the question we want to put to you is men
getting plastic. Surgery is that something that you've. Considered there's
always a bit of a TABOO i think when it
comes to males and plastic, surgery but certainly cosmetic surgery
across the, board whether it's, botox whether it's going under the,
scalpel is increasingly.

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
Popular, yeah, well do you know someone you can tell
a male plastic surgery. STORY i feel like, men if
they get plastic, surgery they're more reticent to discuss, it
and they might try and get a procedure that you
somehow don't. NOTICE i don't know how that would. Be
you suddenly turn up with a tiny little, nose little button,
nose when he had a decent. Schnozz people might. Notice

(01:00:36):
BUT i feel like there, is as you, Say, tyler
much bigger stigma around plastic surgery for. Men someone has
sticking through and, said, yeah he actually grabbed the. Weapon
this hero AT bondi grabbed the weapon simultaneously with the
guy and he, does doesn't he sort OF i was wrong.
There he gets over his shoulders from behind and actually
grobes down the weapon and gets the weapon off the

(01:00:57):
evil bastard pretty. Quickly, yes but, yeah whether it be
a hero or, not it's a it's a tough. QUESTION
i think we'd all like to believe that we would
be that person in that, circumstance but would BE i don't,
know yeah exactly nicely said.

Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
Right, oh eight, hundred, yeah, oh eight hundred, eighty ten
eighty is that number to call headlines With raylene coming?
Up and then we talked taking your calls nine two
ninety two as that text number as, well it's twenty
eight to.

Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
Three you talks at the headlines with blue bubble, taxis
it's no trouble with a blue. Bubble Australian Prime Minister

Matt Ethan Tyler, adams.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Thank you very.

Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
Much.

Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
Raylean so we're talking about a story About Shaquillo, neil
one of the GREATEST nbr basketballers of all. Times so
he mentioned To Entertainment, tonight A US tv, show that
he is going to be undergoing lip reduction surgery at
fifty three years. Old he said he wanted to make
his lips. Smaller he thinks they're too large the way

(01:03:03):
that they, are and it's an image. Thing so he's
got no problem with going under The knight to make
his lips a little bit. Smaller and he also revealed
he does blood spinning treatments to fight. Aging so we're
chatting about. Men when it comes to plastic, surgery it's
long been a. Taboo if you know anybody that has undertaken,
that it's certainly been a lot more, common but not

(01:03:24):
so much talked. About if you've under taken surgery.

Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
Yourself love to. HEAR i love to hear from you
ON i eight one hundred and eighteen. EIGHTY i think,
men you, know when you have preassic, surgery it might
stick out more because of you, know generally, speaking men
don't wear. Makeup so if they get a little bit
of tightened here or there and then it's just hanging out.
There you know you can't you know you. CAN i,

(01:03:47):
Mean i'm sure if you want to wear makeup to, Work,
TYLER i won't judge. You thank, you but you, know
if you had a little tighten up here and there,
there it MIGHT i don't, know this is just a
theory that's just jumped into my mind right. Now someone
might push back on. It, yeah but you, know women generally,
speaking have the opportunity to just sort of paint things
up a little. Bit it's harder to Timbeh and, YEAH
i think there's a lot of logic in. There put
it like a paint on, it cover it up a

(01:04:09):
lot of. Bit, hi guys love the. SHOW i Got
rhino had a big snarz, mates so mates didn't. LAUGH
i PRETENDED i had a car accident and my nose
had been broken and this is how the hospital fixed.

Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
It, wow that's a hell of a lie as a
cover for your nose, surgery THAT i had a car.
ACCIDENT i, MEAN i suppose it makes sense because you
get that god awful bandage on your nose and you're,
like what happened to? You do you get a noose
job or? Something, No, DAD i was in a car. Crash,
ah just a car, crash little.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Mate and, yeah and then you didn't say to the
doctor can you reconstruct it back to the full size it? Was,
OH i know if that works for, you and if
you look at if you FEEL i don't, KNOW i,
mean where do people sit on the idea that you
should just be happy with what you've got and you,
know find a way to love the way you, look
as opposed to trying to change. IT i don't. Know

(01:05:01):
that's an interesting chat in, itself but also that you,
know if you really believe that you need to get
a nose, job and you don't want to face up to,
it you, mate then saying about a car, accident bloody. Great, yeah,
yeah it's a way around. IT i, mean couldn't you do,
something you, know rather than having to have the elaborate
nature of a car accident that could cause, problems couldn't
you just, say LIKE i was putting something heavy on
a shelf and it fell on my.

Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
Face it's a more manly approach to. It, yeah, absolutely
without a word of a.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
Lie AND i can say.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
This WHEN i was, YOUNGER i generally thought IF i
was to ever get plastic, surgery it would be the nose.

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Job something about men and.

Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
Noses and, look, mate you, Know i'm proud of my nose,
Now but WHEN i was, younger it used, to you,
know used to upset me a little.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Bit That i've Got i've got a hell of a.
Snozze it's a real Good adam's.

Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
Trait we've got big noses In adam's, genealogy but it
was targeted in my younger.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Years it, Was, yeah it didn't seem like particularly big
snoz to. Me i've seen bigger, Yeah and it wasn't
even that that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Major they caught me dinosaur nose because it was like
a brontosaurus that it kind of had a bit of
a hook there and a long tail on. It but
part of me just, thought you know, what, yeah it's
quite high. Level it is quite high, level isn't. It
but part of me just, thought as a twelve year, older,
thought If i'm going to get, ANYTHING i don't know
IF i really like my nose this. Big but now
That i've gotten a bit, OLD i realized that it's

(01:06:15):
just part and. Parcel, arguably it's you, KNOW i can't
do anything about.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
It, well thank goodness you, didn't Because i've been working
with you for over a year, now and not one
point IF i ever, thought, Geez tyler's got a massive. Snorz,
no thank you for saying.

Speaker 17 (01:06:29):
That.

Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
Mate at one part of you Thought jeseus got a
bit of a dinosaur. Nose bronzosaurus on his.

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Face but that's the thing as. Well you can spend
a lot of money getting. SOMETHING i, mean if you
ever looked At shaquille O'Neil and, THOUGHT i think you
need a, reduction, MATE i mean never people look in
the mirror and they start worrying about, things and then
they can spend a lot of. Money and then people were,
LIKE i didn't think you had anything, PARTICULARLY i, mean you,
know and who knows if you're going to look weird
as a lot of people pointing, Out, look what happened

(01:06:55):
To Kenny? Rodgers, Yeah, marsius guys don't do. It, YEAH
i Mean Kenny rodgers he got plus sic s ursury
to the point he didn't look Like Kenny rodgers anymore
before he.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
Died, oh one hundred and eighty ten eighty is the
number to call someone that has had plastic. SURGERY i,
mean how do you feel when you see? Them because
Like Kenny rodgers and like some of The hollywood people
we know and, love there is a sadness about it
when you see how beautiful they used to. Be In
Kenny rodgers was a beautiful, man no doubt about. It
but then he undergoes the knife and changes half of his,

(01:07:25):
face and then the same can be seen with a
lot of other women In.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Hollywood, well you Take Michael. JACKSON i, Mean Michael jackson
absolutely thought that he needs something sorted. Out when you
know Around Thriller off The, wall he was probably one
of the best looking people on Planet. Earth, yeah he
was an incredibly good looking, guy but he was looking
in the mirror hating. It he got it. Done but
someone said to, ME i wonder If Michael jackson's you,
know like you go into a workplace and they'll have

(01:07:52):
their famous clients that have been in there. Before, YES
i Guarantee Michael jackson's even though he's one of the
most famous people. EVER i Guarantee Michael jackson's plastic surgeon
didn't have pictures of before and after pictures Of Michael
jackson not.

Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
As best WORK o eight one hundred eighty ten eighty stick.
Surgery is there still a taboo when it comes to
men wanting to do a bit of, work and even
if that is just. Botox love to hear from you
if the old anti aging and cosmetic surgery is something
that you've been involved.

Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
With tim points out SOMETHING i so haven't noticed that
you thought you might have a big. Nose Then tim Says,
tyler if you had a nose, job you wouldn't have
given birth to that giant. Pimple kind regards To, Tim,
YEAH i MEAN i hassled you for ages about that
giant is it you had on your? Nose but no
point THAT i think it was on a particularly big.
Nose it was a huge. Z it was a mess of.
Ze but at no point WAS i, going that's a

(01:08:40):
massive is it on a big?

Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
Notes well that's something MADE i thank you for that
right out hundred eight ten. Eighty it is eighteen to,
Three love to hear from, you nine two nine till
it is the text number, Big so.

Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
The big, stories the big, issues the big trends and
everything in. Between Matt heath And Tyler adams afternoons used.

Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Talks it'd be for a good afternoon to.

Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
You it is a quarter to, three so we're talking
about plastic surgery when it comes to. Men this is
After shaquille O'Neil is set to undergo lip reductions. Surgery
he's not hiding away from. It he's fifty three years
old and he told THE US Tv Show entertainment. Tonight
the next Procedure i'm getting as a lip production because
my lips are too. Big he also revealed he does
blood spinning treatments to fight. Aging so if you know

(01:09:22):
someone a gentleman who's undertaken some plastic, surgery love to
hear from.

Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
You and is there still a taboo around? It not From.
Paula there's a taboo bringing it up with her. PARTNER
i would love my partner to have a. Facelift but
how do you raise?

Speaker 7 (01:09:34):
That?

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Ah very? GOOD i fell for. That, yeah well, Done,
paula great. TECHS i fell for.

Speaker 16 (01:09:41):
That ha.

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Ha guys have just googled you too to see what
you actually look. Like and having been a longtime, listener still.
Listening Just Merry. Christmas well that's good to. Hear thank
you very.

Speaker 5 (01:09:52):
Much just.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Pass my girlfriend got A Bbl Big beast LEAGUE. BBH i,
KNOW i know what she's referring. To what's?

Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
That so that is the commonly known as The brazilian butt.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Lift SO i, say is that when you get your
butt pump with more? Stuff, YES i believe it. IS
i need that Because i've got such a bony butt
sometimes gets. Uncomfortable i'd like to get some cushioning there for,
sitting not for cosmetic, purposes just for the practicality of
sitting on hard. Benches, anyway my girlfriend got A brazilian butt.
LIFT i kept asking WHY i like how she. Is if,

(01:10:26):
anything the THING i like least is that she would change.
Herself she just wouldn't shut up about her. Butt she
got it done and life goes. On now she's talking
about her nose. Now that seems to happen a. Lot
people think if they change one thing and they're going
to be, Happy but people end up, going, oh there's
something ELSE i can. Change there's something ELSE i can,
change something else they can. Change it's a dangerous. Path

(01:10:46):
so if she wasn't heavy with getting a new but
it's funny that she started off the, button not the,
nose because you feel like you'd look at your nose.

Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
More, yeah surely the butt is down the. Track if
you like the, nose or maybe a bit of a face,
lift then you go for the.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Butt the butt is normally down the. Track, yeah this
is going.

Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
To take stare you Get, hey, GUYS i had my
nose fixed via plastic. Surgery it was done WHEN i was,
eighteen so no telling if the ATTENTION i got from
women later on was due to having a cuter face
or BECAUSE i was turning into a. Man don't regret,
it though nobody mentioned too much about it WHEN i was.
Younger But i'm glad That i've got a cute nose.

Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Now says not plastic. Surgery BUT i wear a hair,
piece WHICH i think is just as taboo as plastic,
surgery life, changing far less judgment THAN i, thought a
lot of curiosity, instead and plenty of boarding guys who
were relieved that they won't be bullied if they decided
to wear one. Too SO i guess the thing with
the hare piece is that one day you don't have
hair and the next day you. Do and so that

(01:11:38):
first day going into the, office you know everyone's going to,
go but no one cared when Bloody yeah, Warning, jane
warn yep advance.

Speaker 19 (01:11:48):
Here.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
YEAH i wouldn't judge someone if they had a hair
piece or they decided to get new. Heir he was
pretty open about. That genuine.

Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
Question is there like transition pieces when you go for
the hare, piece that you start off with something with
not so much hair on the hair piece and then
you slowly work your way up to avoid people saying that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
That's a haar.

Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
Piece it's a genuine question that you trans just over,
Time like you get one for the first week that
has just a tiny bit of, here and then you
slowly move.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Up, yeah you, know men don't need to get necklifts
to they because because they just grow a bit. Right,
yeah that's WHAT i, do well. SPOTTED i was shocked
WHEN i first WHEN i saw my dad's chin for
the first time WHEN i was a kid and he
shaved his. Face WHEN i was, like who's that easy
way to hide?

Speaker 3 (01:12:30):

Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
Zedb news talk ED. B we're talking about plastics.

Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
Surgery when it comes to, men it's becoming a whole
lot more, common and particularly overseas and places Like. America
not too many people raise their eyebrows when somebody does.
It case and Points shaquille, O'Neil one of the GREATEST
nba stars of all, time he's revealed he set to
undergo lip reduction. Surgery the fifty three year old Told
entertainment tonights that he's getting it because he thinks his

(01:13:30):
lips are too big and he doesn't see anything wrong with.
It he also revealed that he does blood spinning treatments
to fight. Aging so, clearly someone Like shaquille O'Neil is.

Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
Very worried about his.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
Appearance but if you know someone a man who's undertaken
place of, surgery love to hear from.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
You i'm a, dude says This. TEXTER i got my
neck lift. Surgery not a single person has. Noticed did
what you? Said matt ran a beard for six months
when on holiday To, turkey was away long enough to grow.
Back beard waited until, healed then shaved it off. Again
no one KNOWS i look, great went To turkey to
get rid of My turkey. Neck what's good? Strategy and

(01:14:06):
nicely put so? Beard so went away long enough? Beard
BECAUSE i menagine they have to shave the beard off
to do the, surgery, right, yep do the surgery has
to stay away long enough for the beard to grow.
Back he comes back To New zealand rocking round, work
and then one day he, goes you know, What i'm
sick of having a, beard shaves his bed. Off there
he is with a brand new. Neck and when he,

(01:14:27):
says no one's, noticed, yep well no one said. Anything, yeah,
True but that sounds like a genior. Strategy this is
an interesting text, here getay. Guys as a, WOMAN i
find it sad and off putting when men get plastic.
Surgery if it's, noticeable it's hard for me to look,
at even if it looks. Good it's a degree of
focus on appearance That i'm not interested. In being involved

(01:14:48):
in the vanity over being happy with how you look
is a major turn. Off, YEAH i don't, know is
that double standards BECAUSE i think when.

Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
It comes to, minute say that, again all of. It
as a, WOMAN i find it sad and off. Putting
my men get plastic.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
Surgery oh, right yeah, yeah as a woman she does, Right, yeah,
YEAH i MEAN i think the there is the stigma
for men doing.

Speaker 20 (01:15:09):
IT i.

Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
LUCK i KNOW i need to be a better person
and not judge. People but if a doude has basic,
HUTURE i would judge them way more THAN i would
judge a woman BECAUSE i think that we're not held
to the same beauty. STANDARD i, mean no one really
cares WHAT i look. LIKE i, mean not even. Me, yeah, Clearly, hey,
guys body dysmorphia is a modern. Disease sad that so
many beautiful people are unhappy with. Themselves if they think
people can't tell they've had work, done they are delugeon

(01:15:33):
in Ill, yeah good.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Text and in terms of the old hair, piece BECAUSE
i asked a genuine question that if someone's going with
the hair, pieces they're transition transitional hair.

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Pieces and here's the.

Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Text, You, yes there are men's hair units that transition
with boarding pattern and best to get it done when
you're away on, leave but it does get costly if
you opt for multiple units over a period of. Time
it's a pain in the. Neck and bald is just
much more.

Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Freer, YEAH i, mean, YEAH i know plenty of very
good looking bald dudes that just just get on with.
Life yeah about. It you, know it's interesting when you
think about this and people are texting it through that
it's a very modern thing to worry about. It you,
know for most of the evolution of, humankind we would
never have seen our what we look. Like every now
and then you might see a little bit of yourself

(01:16:21):
in a, puddle but we had no idea what we look.
Like and, now you, know we're just steering into mirrors
all the time every, morning brushing my, teeth gun a
little bit of a turkey, neck a bit to go
To turkey and get that sort of heady gels. There,
yeah a couple of crows. Feet the caveman had no
idea how ugly he. Was he was just walking around,
going you, KNOW i feel pretty good about. Myself maybe

(01:16:42):
Maybe i'm really good. Looking maybe we need to get
rid of mirrors.

Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Generally just before we wrap this, up because we've got
the news hot on our. Tail but as you can, tell,
Mate i'm going starting to go a little bit gray
and mention the mirror. Situation quite, often WHEN i look
in the mirror and see those little gray, hears that
annoys me far more THAN i thought it. Would, GENERALLY
i thought WHEN i started to go gray and it
was going to, happen That i'd embrace it and, say who.
Cares i'm a, Feller so what DO i care that
If i'm going? Gray but maybe that plays into. It

(01:17:05):
there's something in the back of my head SAYS i don't.
THAT i don't know IF i like going a little bit.
Gray but it's not Like i'm going to die right.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Here MAYBE i. Will This texas IS Km. Sudery here
we do like a suction, facelifts island, surgery botox and
men all the. Time most of our clients are, women
but a lot of men are coming. Through can't phone
as busy like to talk to. You actually that would be,
interesting but that's how busy they, are you. Know, yeah, interesting,
yeah But tyler's and having plastic surgery on us here

(01:17:33):
yep here do the nose to the whole? Shaban can
you do me a combo? Deal?

Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
RIGHT?

Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
Km. Surgery you're offer. Him it's just going to get
the whole lot. Done i'll be down there very well.
Everything i'll get the works. RIGHT a great.

Speaker 3 (01:17:46):

in high spirits about becoming a. Centenarian but here's his quote.

(01:18:06):
Here so he talked about his life and what has
helped him reach one hundred and he, SAID i quote
that anger eats up a person's, Inside so be happier
in your general. Life that's part of what's got them
to one hundred years. Old, yeah so we're gonna have
a chat about. That do you know someone who's reached
one hundred and what was?

Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
There?

Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
Philosophy, oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty is that? Number

Van dyke has turned one hundred years old. TODAY a
very happy birthday to that. Man appearing On Good Morning
america ahead of the, milestone the acting legend seemed to
be in high spirits about becoming a. Centenarian reflecting on

(01:18:57):
how his perspective on aging has, changed he, SAID i,
quote you, KNOW i played old men a, lot AND
i always played him as angry and. Cantankerous he, said
it's not really that. WAY i don't know any other
one hundred year, olds BUT i can speak for. Myself
he chalked up his long life and play to a
playform positive, attitude writing in his recent book one Hundred

(01:19:18):
rules For living to one hundred that anger eats up
a person's, insides.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Right, yeah, yeah being. Cheerful that's. Interesting this text here
would agree with this story. Here my Grand mary lived
to one hundred and, two fish and chips twice a.
Week born In, ireland drank whiskey. Often she was always,
laughing never stressed, out even though her life was tough
with six. CHILDREN i always think it was her chill
that got her. There overcame the booze and. Greasies that is. Great,

(01:19:46):
well they do say that, cortisol you, know which is
stress hormones that fire up when you're you, know in
a state of. Stress that gives you you know what
you need to deal with the. Situation but if you
remain in that, state it burns you, know it burns
you from the inside. Out, yeah so if you're constantly,
stressed then you do age. Quicker you, know it's been

(01:20:06):
shown in, many, many many. Stuff, Absolutely so if you
if you could be chill through the tough times Like
Grand mary And dick Van, Dyke, yeah then maybe that's the,
secret Right whiskey and fish and. Chips. ABSOLUTELY i eight
one hundred and eighty ten.

Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
Eighty if you've got someone in your, life with someone
you know who's reached that, milestone love to hear from.

YOU i always thought That dick Van dyke was a
made up, name like you, know a stage name Like Engelbert. Humperdin,
yeah is it. Not, no he's Born Richard. Vandyke So
dick Van. DYKE i mean that's a great. NAME i
mean it's a great. Name he was very lucky with that.
Name all, singing all, dancing incredible. Performer but you, know
most recent SUCCESS i, HAD i guess WAS A night

(01:20:46):
at The, museum, Right, yes those hugely successful movies in
the two. Thousands. Yep but, YEAH i always just thought
That dick Van dyke was you, know was and it
must have been a big part of his. Success been
Called dick Van dyke because so many people have heard
the Name dick Van. Dyke they don't even know Who
dick Van dyke. Is it's good Vac. Dike dick Van
dyke has got to be one of the greatest stage
names all.

Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Time, yeah and incredibly happy. PERSON i mean every movie
that he's, done that's just the persona he gives. Off very,
charismatic but he always seems very. HAPPY i, mean dancing
and singing in The Mary poppins And Chitty Chitty Bang.
BANG i suppose that would do that to, you but
it seems like that's a key part of his, longevity staying.
Positive so love to hear from you on one hundred
and eighty ten. Eighty the people that have lived to
one hundred in your, life if you had a chance

(01:21:28):

NEW Sorkzb David nieker has had a wa. Year In,
january The Kiwi box of fought for his first world.
Title he was also knocked out for the first time
in his. Career it was the start of a year
that would be full of. Milestones he and his Partner
Lexi thornbury traveled To mexico a few days after that,
belt Where nika proposed they brought a, house And nika
made a successful return to the ring In. July soon

(01:40:28):
after that, journey, however their world was rocked As lexi
was diagnosed with head and neck, Cancer battling through what
he described as six weeks of how The commonwealth And
Olympic games medalists finished off the, year claiming victory Over
china's was hearty nuling. Yesterday it is a great pleasure
to Welcome David nica onto the. Show, david how you.

Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
Doing, hey good to be it.

Speaker 19 (01:40:50):
Man i'm feeling. Good hands a little bit, sore but
everything's in one piece time In your.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
Hands are sore and not not your head or your. Forehead,
yeah a huge one.

Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
Man, congratulations an awesome end of the year and it
clearly meant a. Lot judging on your speed after that.
Fight so how different did that fight feel compared to
others you've had this.

Speaker 19 (01:41:12):
Year, YEAH i didn't really feel LIKE i HAD i
didn't have much kind OF x. FACTOR i felt LIKE
i was missing a little something THAT i wasn't really
having much fun in the. Room USUALLY i try to
have a little bit more. Fun but to be quite,
HONEST i really just wanted that weekend to disappear in some,

(01:41:33):
ways you, know JUST i just wanted to get it
out the way SO i can focus on what's really.

Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
Important, yeah you said the week's leading into that about
were how how did you manage to stay focused enough
to perform in the spectacular way you Did.

Speaker 21 (01:41:49):
At the end of the.

Speaker 19 (01:41:50):
Day this is WHAT i, do you, Know this is
it's like muscle memory or. Instinct so for, me doing
WHAT i do is just like IF i work to a.
Checkout you, KNOW i don't see the difference, between you,
know my life and your, Life like people wake up
and do the same thing every, day you, know and
this is just my, thing you.

Speaker 6 (01:42:11):
Know so.

Speaker 19 (01:42:13):
There's been a lot of changes over the last kind
of six, weeks but you, know this is one thing
THAT i KNOW i can do and you, KNOW i,
CAN i can make a little.

Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Difference it's incredible what what you And lexi of course
have been for over those six, Weeks, david throughout that
that journey and it has been it's been hell for you.
Guys has, anything did anything change in your mentality on
how you look at your, career how you look at,
boxing how you look at.

Speaker 19 (01:42:39):
Life you, Know I've i've found my. FAITH i found
in my. Faith it's been like a, big a big
milestone for. Me you, KNOW i, SPOKE i spoke to
my grand she passed away WHEN i was, five and
that was like that was pretty, specious like very, moving
and that was that was kind of the SIGN i

(01:42:59):
needed to know that everything was going to be, okay you.
Know so for, me you, know having a little bit
of spiritual healing has definitely come and come and. Handy
but you, know perspective is a, superpower you, know like
a lot of people don't have, it and to realize

(01:43:20):
how bless we are in this life is so, important
and you, Know i'm Just i'm just so grateful to
have the support in their work around me and to
have the support Of New zealand and and and my
family behind.

Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
Me, man that's. Huge if you can find gratitude and tough,
times then you're a stronger and better person than then most.
People you know a lot of people end up bitter
and angry when when things go.

Speaker 19 (01:43:48):
Wrong, yeah, well at the end of the, day like
my positivity is what's.

Speaker 17 (01:43:56):
You.

Speaker 19 (01:43:56):
KNOW i Know lexus is you, know relying on on
me in a lot of, ways and SO i can't
let my guard, down you, KNOW i need to stay.
POSITIVE i need.

Speaker 21 (01:44:06):
TO i need.

Speaker 19 (01:44:07):
TO i would be encouraging her and let her know
that she's doing the right thing and that we're moving
in the right. Direction and we had like such an
amazing future. Together so, yeah it's important to kind of,
yeah be, that be that.

Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
Positivity, yeah when you say you found your, faith how
did how did you find your? Faith how did? That
how did that come along in your?

Speaker 10 (01:44:27):
Life, well it's a long.

Speaker 19 (01:44:31):
Story got we had a piece of art that we've
been trying to get framed from our. Trip we lex
blew her entire savings on a on A european summer
and it was like a Thirtieth it was for my thirtieth.
Birthday she she just surprised me with a trip To
europe and it was. Amazing we went there and came
back and shortly after she was diagnosed with. Cancer so

(01:44:53):
that was like the first sign that you, know life
is going to be shuffled along pretty. Quickly BUT i had,
This we had this piece of art that we bought
In venice that we were getting, framed AND i went
to get. IT i, went we went in between between
appointments just to go check on the, progress and we saw.
Them we saw them rolling up our rolling up our,

(01:45:15):
art someone else's artwork.

Speaker 4 (01:45:18):
With our with our.

Speaker 10 (01:45:19):
Role AND i was, like, hey what's. THAT i was,
like that's our piece of.

Speaker 19 (01:45:22):
ART i, said, hey if you guys can have, that
you guys need to like fix.

Speaker 10 (01:45:27):
This you guys need TO.

Speaker 21 (01:45:30):
I was, LIKE i, WAS i was.

Speaker 10 (01:45:31):
PRETTY i was pretty.

Speaker 19 (01:45:32):
ANGRY i don't get angry very. Easily BUT i spoke
to the manager and, said, hey, listen we're getting we're
getting married a year from this certain.

Speaker 21 (01:45:43):
Date if you can have that on our wall by this,
day that will be the.

Speaker 19 (01:45:48):
Sign THAT i need to know that everything's going to be.
Okay AND, i, yeah it was, desperate desperate, times BUT
i spoke to my grand she spoke through me which
is really really, chilling, Chilling but she she physically spoke through,
me WHICH i didn't think. Possible i'm a spiritual, person

(01:46:10):
But i'm not, religious but, yeah she spoke through me
and told me to be, still WHICH i since learned
as a biblical, quote you, know be still and know
THAT i Am.

Speaker 10 (01:46:23):
God so that was that was really really.

Speaker 19 (01:46:26):
Powerful and, yeah yet it's reshaped my uh my thinking
in my kind of outlook on life a little. Bit
so that's that's WHAT i. Needed it was the SIGN
i needed to know that we're going to be. Okay
and so, YEAH i know WHAT i need to do.

(01:46:47):
Now ALL i need to do is be that supportive.

Speaker 9 (01:46:49):
Person.

Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
Wow powerful. Stuff and what was the what was the
piece of?

Speaker 19 (01:46:53):
Art it's a it's a painting of the realto bridge
In venice where there's actually you can see the balcony
that we we stayed, at but we're manidation was in the.
Painting so it's it's very special and it's it's up

(01:47:13):
on our living room war. Now so we got that
piece of art up on the wall the day of
the year out from when we're getting.

Speaker 14 (01:47:23):
Married if that makes.

Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
Sense, yeah, yeah that is, beautiful. Mate that is beautiful.

Speaker 3 (01:47:27):
NOW i mean, clearly your strength And lexi strength is, inspiring,
mate AND i don't say that. Lightly how how is
she doing?

Speaker 10 (01:47:35):
Now she's she's doing.

Speaker 19 (01:47:38):
Amazing she's she's she's only just. Started she's finished her
first cycle of, chemotherapy which is like an intro, chemo
and she's bouncing back after kind of three or four
days after each. Treatment so she's doing great at the,
moment and, like, Yeah god, willing she's she she stays that,

(01:47:59):
way but you know it's going to be a, challenging
challenging kind of a few. Months but she's she's such
a strong headed, woman sometimes annoyingly, so but you know
that that eagerness to live and to thrive is what's
going to get us through the other side and make

(01:48:19):
us so much.

Speaker 3 (01:48:20):
