Ever snooped through your partner’s phone?

New challenger in the telco market Kiwi Mobile has been surveying New Zealanders on their phone habits.

Almost two-thirds of Kiwis allow their partners to use their phones, with the 18-to 34-year-old group the most trusting revealing that eighty per-cent will hand over their phone, according to the research. However, that same age group are also the most likely to go through their partner’s phone, with nearly one-third, admitting to snooping on their partner’s phone.

Overall, one-fifth of Kiwis surveyed admitted to snooping on their partner’s phone, a further five percent wouldn’t say.

It appears women are the most likely to let curiosity get the better of them (or are more honest about admitting it!). Only 14% of men admitted to the questionable behaviour, while a further 6% wouldn’t say.

Listen as Simon Barnett and James Daniels discuss the issue.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Simon Barnett and James Daniels Afternoons
podcast from News talks'd be.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
There's been some research done by the Kiwi Mobile team.
Basically one in three women admit to snooping and they
use that term snooping on their partner's cell phone. Yeah,
only about fourteen percent. So that's one in ten men
snoop on their girlfriends or their wives' phones.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Yeah, it's interesting, isn't it. It's the dynamic between men
and women written large here because women seem to not
trust their men, and it where was men just sort
of go oh, yeah, whatever is that?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Because men are louses?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well some are, but so are some women. It's actually quite.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
An interesting research piece from Kiwi Mobile in general, looking
at you know, how many what percentage of parents let
their kids use their mobile data? Forty percent of parents
will let their kids bleed off their data plan. At
least you're Simon Barnett, I pay for my kids. I
neveruldn't even know what a phone believe is fifty percent
appearance will give their phones to their kids.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Is that to use? Yep, they mean not use and
look at it not as a second hand thing.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Think of it. My kids always snoop on my phone,
and they are adult women. I say, they're all out women.
They'll often just pick up my phone. They know the
passcode and they'll just and I say, what are you doing?
And I see Sophie just scrolling through all my texts.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh wow, did you and does what does she say?
What does she answer?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
She goes, oh was he texting you? Why is she
texting you? Oh? It never bothers me. I've got nothing
to hide, but I should I should take a couple
of naked selfies. And then that had shocked them.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Then the other thing is that I've got a six
year old mokoponer, you know, grandson Tiger, And the other
day I'll see him with my phone and he's entering
the passcode and I said, and he knows it. How
do you know my passcode? And he said, I've seen
you use do it? I went okay. Well, then the
second question is why have you got my phone? He said, Oh,
I'm going on YouTube. No you're not, but that's him

(02:12):
using your data plan.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, guys, this will be a fascinating ours chat, says
the Texter. My man wrestled his phone off me. As
he's been hiding his affairs. He said it was all
in my head. I had the evidence, and I said
he has nothing. If he had nothing to hide, then
he should let me have his phone. Then I grabbed
his phone and it turns nasty. Okay. I never looked

(02:35):
at Jodie's phone ever. Would never have occurred to me. No, me,
neither with Diane. Did you know a password though? Yeah?
What it was the same as mine? I'm I'm I'm
not going to say that actually on you. Well, my
password whole thing is useless. I would be the easiest
person in the world.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
To hack, is it? One?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
One?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
One?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
One?

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Why shut up? Don't you just said it? One?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Two, three four.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
