Speaker 3 (00:17):
He has thirty eight years experience as a mechanic in
the automotive industry. He's worked with pretty much every franchise
brand from the Japanese through to the Europeans. He works
at exl Autos and Fakatane and he's a good man.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Get a Matts, geta guys. How are we going very well?
Very well?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Now, if you've got a question for Matt about your vehicle,
your motor, oh eight hundred and eighty ten eighty is
the number to call straight off the Batman.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
We've got a text question here, says Giday.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Guys, I'm looking at a Toyota or on sport model
three point five Leita V six. Is this a good
reliable engine?

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Yep. I've got a three point four Leader Prado myself. Yeah,
great car. It's the car's not a is not that heavy,
so you'll find it won't be as bad on gas
as you might imagine. On the open road. They're really good.
Around town, you might find it's a bit hungry, but yeah,
that should be a good car. Obviously I haven't seen it,
but should be a good car.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
I got a text here, Hey guys, a question for Matt.
My daughter is looking for a small car but doesn't
want a Toyota. How do you rate Kia Rios or
new Shape Master Demios? Please looking around ten to twelve
k I know we know that you you always suggest
the Toyota for some reason. Reasons, yea reasons unshared here.

(01:35):
It doesn't want a Toyota.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah, I'll look for Tota for fourteen of my CDI
eight years, so I'm pretty much a Twater technician. Any Mas, Nissan,
any of the major Japanese brands, are you know i'd
recommend I'd buy myself kas Yeah. I haven't had too
many issues with them, right, I just gig that I

(02:00):
wasn't buying.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Or with Nissan or one of our one of our
bosses here, Matt. He was very proud this morning when
he came in and he Citi's the new owner of
a key of Sorrento.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
What would you say to that?

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, look, if it's a new car, it's going to
have your vehicle warranty.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
Demo is just you know, a few days away from
going through the front of a shop.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
The demo is I think are rated as one of
the highest stolen in Zealand.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Still that's got a weird and they got like a
tank front or something. I mean, why is it the demio?

Speaker 4 (02:30):
I think you know, they're just easy to They're just
easy to break into.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Yeah, easy to break through it and through and drive
through the front of a deer.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Eight one hundred eighty ten eighty is the number to
call if you've got a problem with your car. Matt
is the man to chat to.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Matt. This is a very simple text that's come through
a few times and you'd think people driving cars would notice,
but a lot of people don't. How do you know
what tie pressure to use for your car?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Great question? Open your driver's door on just about every car,
Open your driver's door and there's a white stick of
there that gives you all your tire pressures right just
on the inside inside of the door with the door catchers.
You should find a stick of there.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
I reckon a huge percent of New Zealanders don't know,
and they just when they go to the survey to
pump up their tires. So just do it for a bit.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, I'd always go thirty two no matter what car
I'm in. Thirty two PSI seems to be about right.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
But are you saying that? I mean, there you go, man.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Sorry, Yeah, I mean thirty two is what if we
don't look them up like a lot of most cars
will put thirty two in. But some of the new stuff,
especially the new Kiars, if you don't put them at
thirty five, the tire pressure light will come on because
they have tire pressure monitoring systems, right, So you do
have you do have to get them closer to what
they should be on some of the newer cars.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, this one says, guys, what about a twenty twelve
Porsche GTS Cayenne?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Is that a reliable vehicle?

Speaker 4 (03:56):
I'm not going to recommend the two thousand and whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Portion looks good though, I mean if you've got the
money for that.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
But maybe I actually own I own the number plate
V eight nine to eleven.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Oh no, doah, bad beautiful.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
There was a rumor, there was a rumor going around
that force you're going to put a V eight in
the nine eleven. So man, a couple of friends bought
the month plates.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
And now and now you've just got on a All right, John,
you've got a question for Matt.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
Yes, Matt, I've got a mass mp I've only done
one hundred and thirty it's only done one hundred and
thirty thousand caves and it's leaking all so put in
the garage and they charged me eight one hundred bucks
and they told me to put stop leak. Well on up.
It's still leaking off three bottles of three different bottles
of oil. Stopped making it and it's still leaking.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
What was a vehicle an MPV?

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Yeah, that's the MPV.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah. Oh look, it's if it's leaking, it's leaking from
somewhere and it should be repaarable. You shouldn't try and
fix anything with stop leak. It's if somebody's told you that,
probably you need to go somewhere else.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Yeah, yeah, well that's I think I've already spend that
two grand on it. It's still leaking oil.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
It tugs your two grand. And then they said use
some stopley.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
It doesn't sound right.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Does sound like cowboys?

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Man, I'd been going back. He's a consumer guarantees that. Yeah,
I'd certainly be going back to either get your money
back we'll get them to fix it. If they charge
you for fixing it.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah, good luck with that, John, Yeah, yeah, that doesn't
sound right. Doesn't matter at all. We are joined by
Matt Bullen. He's had thirty eight years experience as a
mechanic in the automotive industry, works for Excel Autos and
is a good man and he knows his stuff and
he's taking your questions on eight hundred and eighteen eighty.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Greg, you've got a twenty ten high Lax four wheel drive.

Speaker 7 (05:46):
Yeah, yeah, I have, and ever since I bought it.
When you go to put it into first gear, sometimes
it just won't go in. And then you push the
clutch and and it'll go in. Push it in and
out again it'll go in. But it just real hard
sometimes to get into first gear.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Okay, you might need to adjust the clutch pedal. It
maybe have air in the flood. It might be. But
does it does it feel spongy? Maybe get the pedal,
get the clutch adjusted and.

Speaker 7 (06:24):
Bled Okay, yeah it does, and the pedal doesn't feel
it doesn't feel different. But when I bought it, the
guy said he spent three thousand dollars on the gearbox
and I thought, well, he must have done the clutch
and everything on the white you know, and.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
You think that, but not necessarily. But if there's been
previous work done on the gearbox, then I mean it
could have an issue. But if you if you're pumping
the pedal a couple of times, it may be an
adjustment or a bleed. A bleed problem is it?

Speaker 7 (07:00):
Yeah, it is there. Adjustment would when it's high.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
You're the piddle itself sugguictable, But then you might have
ear in the flood, so you might need to bleed
the flood.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
You, Greg, That helps?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Greg?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, Ali, how are you?

Speaker 8 (07:20):
I'm good?

Speaker 9 (07:21):
I have a twenty eighteenstan leaf and in the last
two weeks the collision the front collision sensor light keeps blinking. Now,
I did a little bit of a Google search, and
I think it's towards the front of the vehicle, and
most of them said it just it'll, it'll it more
than likely just requires a king and that should make

(07:43):
it go away. I just wanted to see what your
thoughts were if you've come acrosss.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
I haven't had any experience with those at all. Ali, Sorry,
Well there right, target, Yeah, without getting it and having
a good look at that. I don't want to say anything.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
Yeah, all the best with that, Ali, We've been distracted
with the berry Soper and beautiful young baby, the.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Gorgeous baby though.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Matt Ellison, you've for got some new tires on your car,
but you're not too sure about the pressure.

Speaker 10 (08:19):
Yeah. So it's a twenty thirteen little Master sport hatch.
It was a New Zealand News. There's weirdly because I
have on other vehicles, you know, looked for the sticker
to see what it suggested. I'm on the sticker on mine.
It gives you like the vehicle model and what kind

(08:40):
of thing, but there's nothing about sort of tie pressure suggestions.
But recently got some new tires on the cart and
the sticker put on by the person I bought the
organization I got the tires from says thirty eight front
and thirty eight rear. Is that an extreme or is
that maybe just what these tires require?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
Or what was the current mister? What sort?

Speaker 10 (09:05):
It's a little five door Master sped.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Okay, have a look on the passenger side door. There
might be a sticker in there or does it have
a owner's menual?

Speaker 10 (09:20):
Good points?

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, otherwise, try the passenger side doors. Sometimes you find
those stickers on the passenger side door. But thirty eight
does seem pretty high for for a little master. I'd
be looking at thirty two thirty four. But if you're
not sure, if you can't find it for sure, goud
of barrapeers were fast down or a tire dealer and
ask them, well it was the it?

Speaker 10 (09:48):
Can I say who it is? I think I heard
it was for Star Okay?

Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yeah, well yeah, I mean thirty eight does seed a
bit hot to me, but it may also depend on
what brain, what type of tide they've put on it? Yeah,
expensive tire?

Speaker 10 (10:09):
Well it wasn't it Like it wasn't the cheapest I
could get because I do all like hay, but it
like wasn't Yeah the dearest the problem.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah, that does sound a bit hot and probably even
sorry to say it, but if you google twenty thirteen
meres to whatever it is and find out Google will
carry you. It should be on the vehicle.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah, also sounded like it was barketing down where Allison was. Alison,
thank you, thank you very much, Pete. You've been hanging
on for some time. Thanks for that. You're on with
Matt the Mechinic.

Speaker 11 (10:41):
Okoday, guys, man, I've got a twenty seventeen Highlarks. When
you're in the open road and you're going downhill in
your break, it wants to drop it. As an auto,
it wants to drop it down to third or the
most of the time, which kind of makes it scream away.
But I've been told that's a problem with that model.
Are you aware of that or is there a solution?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
No, I'm not sorry, I'm not aware of it. Has
it got an overdrive switch on it?

Speaker 11 (11:08):
A good question on the guest? Okay, No, he hasn't
got an overdrill on the guest. The solution is just
a flacking and the manual and then fluck it back
and it finds the right gear. Oh so it's like
I took it might be interest sex, but it'll drop

(11:30):
down to third. So then so the refcund of goes.
You know, it's four thousand type of thing. But I've
been told that's probably that model.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Okay, so it's not something I've heard of. Would probably
try changing the fluid first.

Speaker 11 (11:49):
For a few years, it's all been serviced and all
that sort of thing. So but it just seems to
have ads.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
In the Okay, how many caves?

Speaker 11 (12:00):
One hundred and fifty thousand, But I bought it at
one hundred and six and it's done it the whole
time I've had it.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Yeah. No, not something I've come across. But like I said,
try try changing the flood. But I'll go on all
I specialist.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Good luck pet uh Krishka Have I seen that?

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Right?

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (12:22):
Yeah, you can short them to crush.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
Krish crash from the show You've got You've got a
mass Emix five slick.

Speaker 8 (12:29):
Yeah, it's a nineteen ninety four year model. It has
one hundred and forty thousand kilometers reason every time read Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
Really, well that's got to be read be.

Speaker 8 (12:41):
I've earned three of them. They've been perfect vehicles. But
this one's giving me a little bit of trouble. So
I started and it squeaks. It squeaks a lot every time,
and then after I guess it warms up a little bit.
It stops squeaking. When I shift from first to second,
it stops squeaking.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Noisey belt or is it all? Is it a manual?

Speaker 7 (13:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (13:03):
Five speed?

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Does the squeak change if you put your photon and
off the cli?

Speaker 8 (13:09):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (13:10):
It does it does, Okay, it might be a dry
bearing or release bearing or something like that in the
gear box.

Speaker 8 (13:18):
After warms up. Does it to stop because after a
warms up it stops.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Yeah. If putting your foot on and off the clutch
makes it change, then it's something to do with the
with the clutch. If you turn the airc on on
and off and it changes with the airc on, it
might be a belt. But if you think the cut belt, yeah, yeah,
it might be.

Speaker 8 (13:40):
A Christian regarding the same past. How often do it
must have just to change the clutch.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
When it wears out?

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Yeah, do that vehicle.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Some people will never some people will never change their clutch.
Other people will go through clutches. So just just when
it wears out.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Thank you very much, chrishuh Tanya, You're gonna be every problem.

Speaker 12 (14:09):
Yeah, Hi Hi Dan, Matt, Matt, sorry, Hi Mat, Just
some respect of him. I've got to ranger over avoke
kend I've hit it. It's about five years old.

Speaker 10 (14:20):
Now, no problems.

Speaker 12 (14:22):
And then one of the other morning it was dead.
So the battery was completely dead and they got the
AA in and that. But they quoted me about twelve
hundred dollars for a new battery. I thought that was
really excessive. But is it because and I'm just interested
in your view. Is it because of they had to
run it through and give it a software update to

(14:44):
tell the car that a new battery was coming in
or something. But I thought that was excessive.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Yeah, a lot of a lot of well it does, see,
I'm very excessive. A lot of new vehicles. You do
have to program the new battery into the car. You
got to tell the car that it's got a new
battery or the old.

Speaker 8 (15:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (15:01):
Yeah, that's what they said.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
They've got a car.

Speaker 8 (15:03):
Yeah, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Just hundred seems pretty dear.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
Isn't that just running in a program but a software
through it.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
They love the upsell the AA, don't they. They do a
great job.

Speaker 12 (15:14):
No, the sorry, sorry take that back, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
The name of the AA Tiland. I just love selling batteries,
is all I'm saying you.

Speaker 12 (15:25):
No, No, the AA with excellent. They came out and
got me going, and then I took it to the
dealer where I had purchased it from. And then that's
what they quoted me. And I said, well, I've been
online and batteries you know, really good ones only six
hundred dollars. And they said, but they have to put
it through you know, the because it's computerized, and update
the software. That's just putting like you know through the update, doesn't.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
It have you have you had it done?

Speaker 11 (15:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:53):
I have.

Speaker 12 (15:53):
I'm waiting for the boys.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Yeah, I'm going to get opinion from someone else.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
Tell them that.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Tyler said, no, exactly. Your good luck with that and
met Thank you very much again. We've got a truckload
of takes to get to next time, but go well mate,
