come true for Lauren, who is getting married tomorrow and Nelson.

(00:30):
trust a steamer, but no, you couldn't.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Dress is ruined and she's, as Page said, she's getting
married tomorrow in Nelson. So we have spent the entire
show today trying to find her address to wear tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Now, you have been doing so much coordinating behind the scenes.
I cannot take credit for the magic that has been
pulled off this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
So I take my head off to you, mcclad morrell.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Support You were here all the way, all the way,
you were with me. Do you know what I felt like? Andy?
The character from The Devil Wiz Prada when.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
SEPs funny and there are those movies that.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
You just reve back and this is one of them.
Mirrorstreap's character asks you to do some wild things just
to get like the unpublished Harry Potter manuscript. At one
point I found That's what I felt like. I was like,
there were no nose. No nose were extended today, they
weren't tolerated.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
It was there.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
The world is away and we got the dress, we
got the flights, we got it to don't reveal too much.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Don't reveal too much.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
You'll find out exactly how it played out in today's podcast.
We'll say no more. We'll leave it at that. Hope
you enjoy Meddy and the podcast. And it's time to
help out New Zealand. Yes, Maddy has come across a
story this morning. And look, sometimes in radio we talk
a bit of rubbish, but sometimes we can get together
(01:56):
and help out. And this story that you've come across,
I reckon we could get the power of the people behind.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
We need the power of the people today. Peege. We
know you and I know how stressful win is organizing
a wedding, but how amazing it is to get married.
It's incredible bestabula, truly. But imagine the stress of the
day before your wedding finding out that your wedding dress
is absolutely ruined.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Oh, I cannot even imagine. Horrible you think about all
the fittings you do, the time it takes to get
your dress to perfection. It's a lot of time and
emotion and energy.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, I came across the post today from a bride
in the South Island called Lauren. Her wedding dress is ruined.
She's getting married tomorrow and she is desperate to try
and find someone that might be able to help her
out with the last minute wedding dress.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Okay, we've got to help out.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Well, Lauren's sister, Jess, joins us now high Jess, Hi,
oh god, oh my.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
God, what a stressful twenty four to forty eight hours
for you.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Yes, yeah, not been nice to win this.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
No, how's it? How's Lauren doing? How's everyone doing?
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Everyone's kind of calm. I mean, it's been hard to
kind of communicate because we're convoying up to Nelson at
the moment, so from christ Church, right, But she has
been in a lot of tears, and she did say
that she cried herself to sleep, so.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
That we've got to fix this. Can you quickly just
explain to us what actually happened to the dress.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Yeah, so she was steaming it last night and unfortunately
it just completely wrecked. The fabric and the switching came
out and it's completely through.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Oh oh my gosh.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
And yeah, so it's she can't wear it. It's not salvageable.
So yes, that's pretty much what happened.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Okay, So look, this is the beauty of being on radio.
We have the potential to really tap into the power
of the people.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
There are so many people.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
We have wedding dresses right that have only been worn once.
So surely surely we can find a dress that is
suitable for Lauren.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Jess. Do you want to explain the style that Lauren had?
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Yeah, so she had It was kind of off the
shoulder with rooshing down the front and then it had
like a slip and kind of like a medium size tree.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
What sizing are we looking for, Jess twelve, size.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Twelve, Kate size twelve.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
And as she opened, do you think she would be
open to kind of diverting from that style at all
or do you think it's it's got to be that totally.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
I think she'd be open to it at this point.
I mean she's a bit she's obviously, I mean the
wedding's tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, of options, pretty quickly.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Okay, Jess, you've you've sent me some kind of photos
that we that we can put up on our social
media platforms to kind of show people the style of
dress she did have. But anyone can get in touch
with us right now, and we're going to try and
get this dress to Lauren and Nelson by tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yes, so, even if you aren't and Nelson anywhere around
the country, I do believe our good mates in New
Zealand are going to make this happen wherever you are.
If you're thinking, oh my god, I've got a dress
literally sitting in my wardrobe that is begging to come
out for another occasion, call us right now.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Oh eight hundred the hits. Let's get Lauren address and
time for a wedding tomorrow in New Zealand.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Meddy and PJ the podcast.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
We are playing matchmaker for the dress. Maddie, do you
want to recap the story that has gone down this morning?
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Poor Lauren is getting married and Nelson tomorrow and she
has accidentally ruined her dress. A rogue steamer has absolutely
ruined it. It's never trust a steamer unwearable. And she's
getting married tomorrow, and we want to help her out.
Does anyone out there have a dress that they can
(05:56):
lend Lauren for her big day?
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Okay, we will go anywhere around the country because we've
got our mates for me in New Zealand on board.
They're going to hook us up with a flight from
wherever the dress says. Let's start in Dneda. We've got
Kasia joining us. Kaisha, you've got a dress, I sure.
Speaker 7 (06:12):
Do, a beautiful dress and I think it will be
perfect for her.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Twelve, size twelve, okay perfect?
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Did you talk us through the styles?
Speaker 5 (06:23):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (06:23):
So it's a long dress. It's ivory sort of color,
so not kind of off white, and it's got like
his sheer, beautiful length over the top of it with
diamontes around the breast area, and then that's got little
care sleeves and the lace as well.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Okay, yes, okay, all right, so size twelve dress in
Doneda and we might be able to make that work.
We've got I've told Jess Lawrence is to to listening
to any of these nights the bill, So we'll go
back to Juice a little bit later on. Let's keep
tracking along, shall we.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
All Right, lea'st move about the country to. Actually, Kelly
joins us. Kelly, what is your dress description?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Hello? Hello, Hello Kelly, Hi.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Partner.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
I was having a moment.
Speaker 8 (07:16):
Sorry, I'm dealing with my kids in the car.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
That's okay, Okay, we'll make it quick. Kelly, give us
your dress description.
Speaker 8 (07:24):
Okay, So mine is actually side fourteen.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Unfortunate, but it is.
Speaker 8 (07:30):
It's perfectly white and it is beautiful as your old
style for it.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
So you know your traditional.
Speaker 9 (07:38):
Type dresses, right, yeah, yeah, it's like.
Speaker 8 (07:42):
Yeah, little bo pete sort of thing.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
It's never been worn, is that right?
Speaker 9 (07:48):
That's right?
Speaker 8 (07:49):
No, because I mean as it worked out, I was
given it on behalf of my aunt. Okay, but the
person I was actually to get married to decided to.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Believe, well, aren't you better off now?
Speaker 8 (08:06):
I think so?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And what a beautiful thing to then offer offer it
up to Lauren. Thank you so much, Kelly. We really
appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Okay, keep moving up the country. This is great stuff here,
Keisha and Dnaed and Kelly and christ actually wrap it
up with Lisa, who's actually and Nelson.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Lisa, Hey, okay, this is this is good because this
is where Lauren's getting married tomorrow. Tell us about your dress.
Speaker 9 (08:35):
So it's nothing like her beautiful dress. I saw a
bit of it. It's got skinny strait and then kind
of tight at the top. I guess, like a veny
kind of situation. Sorry, my kid's just gonna crunch again.
And then it's got like a big kind of threw
through bottom. It's got I don't know if anyone knows
what it's called course here around that. You's not actually
(08:57):
horse here, that's just the style.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Okay, yeah, but I can drop it round to her when.
Speaker 9 (09:02):
She gets here so she can try it on if
you want.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Oh my god, Lica love this.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Okay, well, you hang near Lisa. What we're going to
do is because Lauren's sister g you. So we had
on the phone before. She's listening right now. We're going
to go to her next and see if any of
the dresses fit the bell. We're not going to stop
until we get the perfect dress for Lauren, who is
due to get married and Nelson tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
We'll go back to this and two songs on.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
The hats Maddie and PJ the podcast.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
We are playing matchmaker to the wedding dress this afternoon.
If you missed it, we came across the story about
a woman who's getting married and Nelson tomorrow, traveling up
from christ Church. Her name is Lauren, but unfortunately, literally
last night she was doing a little cheeky steam on
the dress and what happened.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
It's completely wrong, completely unwearable.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
What a night to mere situation to find yourself in
the day before your wedding exactly.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
So we thought, look, we've both been married, we know
hous stress villainas we want to help out. We've actually
got Lauren's sister Jess on the phone with us. Hi, Jess,
welcome back, Hi, Okay, so we have We've put the
call out to around New Zealand. We had a few options.
Did you hear before the people that called up? Yes, okay, okay,
(10:19):
So to do it recently, so lovely.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
And honestly, Jess. We're still getting we're still getting messages
in from people, so we'll continue to follow follow it up.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
But let's still recap. There was Keisha from Dunedain. The
dress was sized twill it had been worn before. That
sounded like a pretty solid option. Kelly from christ Church,
a traditional beautiful dreas never actually ever got worn size fourteen,
so she could potentially still fit into it, and Lisa
from Nelson nothing like the style of the dress, but
she could drop it over tonight for your sister to
(10:52):
try it on. It's not quite like the style of
the dress either, but hey, it's worth a try, right, Yes, totally.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Okay, So what do we do from here? Jess? Do
you think we in the first instance, set you guys
up with Lisa and Nelson descender Lisa can pop round
with her wedding dress today.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
Yeah, I mean yeah, I think to see the photos
and then I we're literally just pulling up this accommodation
now amazing. Yeah, so I can kind of deliberate.
Speaker 9 (11:20):
With her and we can decide what lse to do.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Brilliant.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Yeah, and we'll go from there.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Okay, great, okay, amazing, amazing, amazing.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
And if anyone, if anyone does still think they can
come to the party, even if you're not in Nelson,
We've been talking to our friends at in New Zealand
about trying to get address to to Jess and Lauren
and Nelson for tomorrow's wedding. You can still send us
photos on our social media on Facebook or Instagram that
hits drive or text us four four eight seven and

hopefully like one of those pictures.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
All right, yes, totally, thank you, I appreciate.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Okay, we'll keep you on up to date with what
happens in the end.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Maddy and PG Median PJ the podcast.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Hey just quickly.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Earlier in the show, we were talking about Lauren from
christ Church who was getting married at Nelson tomorrow. However,
drama with her wedding dress got seriously damaged by the
steamer last night. It cannot be fixed. It's fully ruined.
She doesn't have the funds to get a new one.
As you know how expensive weddings are, particularly at the moment.
So we put it to the power of the people.
(12:34):
And if you check out our social the Hurts Drive
with Median PJ, Facebook and Instagram, we have been inundated
with dress options from people around the country, people who've
just had a dress setting in the wardrobe ready to go.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Thank you so much. We're going to whittle it down,
I reckon.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
By the end of our show this afternoon, we're going
to have the perfect dress for Lauren.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Good people are amazing, amazing. In the meantime, it's time
to do this.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Battle of the heads.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
All right, one artist, two songs, going ahead to head,
and this week we're heading back to the nineties, and
the chosen artist is Aqua. I remember having the video
of VHS. I can't remember actually like what the video entailed,
but I remember just thinking they were the bees Bees.
That was so cool, that was so okay. So we've
(13:26):
come to the table with what we believe is the
best song. And yes, they're so so much more than
just a one wonder. I will come to the table
with what I believe is their best song first, and
then Matty, it is over to you.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
So My Song was.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Released as the band's seventh single overall the sixth from
their debut album, Aquarium. It was also included on the
soundtrack for the nineteen ninety eight film Sliding Doors starring
Gwynneth Poultrow. The track possesses less of a bubble pop
sound than that was other Lisa's It's slow paced and
(14:01):
shows the full range of lead singer Lena's vocals. It
was successful on the charts on several countries, becoming Aqua's
third consecutive number on the UK Singles Chart.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
My song is Turned Back Time.
Speaker 6 (14:26):
Bayard.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
That's good, such a forgotten banger.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Also, how good a sliding Doors?
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I go.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
That's one of those movies. I just remember a few scenes.
I need to watch it again.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
It's on TVNZ plus. You should go watch it. You go.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Thank you for selling my song.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Great song, fantastic song. But when I think Equa, I
do think bubblegum pop and there's nothing wrong with a
little bit of fun, a little bit of pizzazz. So
I'm going to take you back to January two thousand,
the first song released from their second studio album, Aquarius.
(15:04):
This was an absolute commercial success in Denmark, where Aqua
is from. The song debuted at number one, selling enough
copies to earn a quadruple platinum sales certification within forty
eight hours of its release. This song cannot do anything
but make you want to dance. My pick for Battle
(15:25):
of the Hits Aqua is Cartoon Heroes.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Another song I.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
Forgot it there is I totally forgot. I thought you
were going to do Candyman. Cany I do remember Candyman?
Speaker 8 (15:47):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Okay, So Maddie's Pack is cartoon heroes. Mine is turn
Back Time, the artist is Aqua, and now you get
to vote. Oh wait, one hundred the hats you want
Maddy or Pj's song. Best of three, we will play
out the winner in its.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
Entire the podcast Battle of the Heads.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
I love that we've gone pretty niche with the Battle
of the Hets this week, opting for Danish dance pop
group at Qua. Yes, there are so much more than
Barbie Girl. Meddi came to the table with cartoon heroes
and I tried to slow it down with the absolute
(16:33):
banger turn Back Time. All right, now we hand the
power over to you. Oh, eight hundred of the hits
is a number to join the show. All you need
to do is vote for Matty or PJ Ritch.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Who would you like to go for? This afternoon? Small talk?
Speaker 6 (17:01):
Is all right?
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Rich? Okay, thank you very much for your call one
to Misty Damn. I really thought I heard this one
okay in the white cut door. Who would you like
to vote for?
Speaker 1 (17:15):

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I'd like to float for you. PJ.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Oh did you go you gotta vote? Listen? I really
appreciate it. Like she was calling from her home.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Pot I think she was, Yeah, old line all going
to Chelsea the decider of Bettle of the Hurts this
week for ecla Chelsea, who would you like to vote for?
Speaker 10 (17:39):
I'm sorry Maddie that I took PJ.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Oh, you can't be.
Speaker 1 (17:48):

grit ChEls. She's got good taste. Thank you so much
for calling Chelsea. We're actually going to sort you out
with the help PiZZ.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
About chair bribery. There we go, I see how I.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Bribed you after before after all, right, well there you go.
You are welcome.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
You are more than welcome. The people have spoken everybody.
Another week A Battle of the Hats. You're gonna thank
me because, honestly, is the song plays out, you'll be like,
this really is forgotten. A Battle of the Hats this
week the artist was Actler and the song that has
taken first place has turned back time on the Hurts.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Maddy and PJ. Mady and PJ.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
The podcast whether is obviously getting a little bit cooler,
which can mean some fun, exciting things, and for us,
it means hosting a mid winter Christmas.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Of course, you are the household that would host a
mid winter Christmas party.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Never done it?
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Before.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Really, you've never done it before.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Oh is that quite stressful? How many people you have it?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
There's going to be ten of us at my at
our house.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
That's a nice number.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah, that's nice. I'll do the cooking. You'll do it all, well,
most of it, I reckon. I love being in the kitchen.
Ryan's handy. He'll help out, for sure, But I do
love getting in the kitchen. But to organize this, to
organize this midwinter Christmas, I started up a group chat
today on Facebook Messenger with a bunch of people.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
How many group chats are you currently operating?
Speaker 3 (19:29):
I'm in a lot, and I find them stressful at
the best of times. I'll tell you who finds them
even more stressful, My dear husband Ryan. I can't.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Yeah, and we're in one. So my husband, Beja and
your husband Ryan, and you and I are in one.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
And I can tell Ryan like gets pretty over the chat,
especially because Beja.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
My husband loves a voice. Note your hobby doesn't. He's
not a fan of it.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
BJ's like a labrador, like very very eager and enthusiastic,
jumping out up and down, pending. And Ryan is the
snobby little house cat, so to his nose up and
goes and this is not for me. So I added
Ryan to this group chat to organize this, to organize
(20:16):
this midwinter Christmas. And we finally got everyone on board.
Every on a degree. Yes, we're in cool, were locked
in a date, yep, everyone can do this date great.
And then Ryan went cool, are we done? And we
went well, we're done with the organizing of the of
the party, but I'm sure there'll be more to come
in this group chat. Next thing I know, Ryan Tees
has left the chat.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
There is no bit of power move leaving the chair right, just.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Mic drop of our He's out. He's out. And then
I've just got to pick up the pieces and organized
the midwinter Christmas and the group chat myself. He's just done.
Seven he is, so said the Boomese cat has struck again.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
The podcast.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
There are some chaos, hectic energy going on in the
studio right now. Many Honestly, I swear in another life
you would have been an amazing director manager boss.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
You're very good at orchestrating a stressful situation.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Do you know what I think about I think about
I think about the character and the devil is Prata
where she has to just do all of the things
on the streets.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Character Yeah, okay, so do you want to run down
exactly what was going on this afternoon?
Speaker 3 (21:27):
So we got to I saw a story online today
about a bride, Lauren. She's from christ Shoots, but she's
getting married to Nelson tomorrow and today a steamer has
ruined her wedding dress the day before her wedding. She
can't wear it like she it's absolutely ruined.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
She can't And as we all know, weddings are extremely expensive,
so to fork out extra money, like right before the
day of your wedding to get the dress you want,
it's it's pretty pretty challenging. So there's been a lot
of tears, and we thought, look, why don't we try
and use the power of the people, because there are
so many people around the country who have used the
wedding dress once and it's literally sitting dormant and people's wardrobes. So,
(22:07):
by golly, have the people come to the table. We
put up a post on our Instagram and Facebook. We
have been inundated with dresses from all around the country,
but I think we may have whittled it down to
one dress.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
We've found a dress we think it's the one. The
issue is. The issue is the dressing. The dresses in
christ Church. Lauren is in Nelson getting married tomorrow, and
what I didn't realize when I first took on this
job is that it's it is a morning wedding. So
we somehow in the next like hour, have to get
(22:43):
this dress from this house in christ Church, where the
where the former briders to the airport. So the Air
New Zealand are very good friends at Air New Zealand
who have come to the party, will fly it to
Nelson so that Lauren can have it ready for her
morning wedding tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Where there is a will, there is a way, and
I'm sure we're going to get this sorted by the
end of our show, So make sure you stay tuned
to find out what happens with the dress.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
In the podcast, we're in a mad scramble page because
we're trying to get this wedding dress to Nelson for
Lauren's wedding tomorrow. If you've missed it, Lauren's dress is ruined.
She's getting married tomorrow and we've been trying to find
her a new dress.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
This is chaos, but I think there's a light at
the end of the tunnel, I reckon. By the end
of ours show, we're going to have a dressmatch made
in Heaven, so we'll go there after five thirty.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Yeah, stay tuned for that. But before then, I was
trawling through social media as I do every day, and
the doom scroll yep, and I came across a video
of a dad in the US. The dad had gone
away for a few nights and had left his teenage
sons in charge of the house while he was away
(23:58):
and sing. Then circumstances changed and the dad arrived home
a day early, and the next thing he knows, he
is rocking up to his house and is a guest
at a very very raucous high school party.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Amazing, red cups and all it would be loose.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
It was overflowing with people, and this dad is filming
a video from the party, going these kids don't even
know that I have stumbled upon a party at my
own house.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Oh my god. Amazing.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
So he's walking through like your average party go all,
absolutely be a little bit older than everyone.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Random being.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
He's got like a full beard, so he really does
stick out like a sore thumb at a high school party.
But no one had noticed him.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
Yet it is I was.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
I was never ballsy enough to do that. Like I
think at most I might have like had four pack
of archers.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
If my friend came home and maybe they wed two
friends and went secretly.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
I would never have had a party. I was just
I was not that brave.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
So I did. But the thing is, Mum and Dad
knew about it. It wasn't I wasn't trying to hide
it from them. They were out and I was heading overseas.
I was moving overseas. I went on a student exchange
for my last year of high school. So I had
my leaving party at home and mom and dad said,
we're going out for the night, go for gold, have
(25:27):
some friends over, have fun. And I invited a bunch
of friends over. And it was meant to be just
a fun, little casual party, a few drinks, you know,
nothing crazy, And then it was one of the exactly
a little couple of Bacardi breezes. And then it became
(25:47):
one of those parties that the texts went out to
a few people, and then the texts went out to
a few more people, and then a few more people,
and before I knew that the house was overrun with people.
Here's some of the things that happened. Mum's leather couch
got ripped. Oh no, someone smoked pot in my eight
year old sister's bed, ripped the banister off the wall,
(26:12):
ripped it clean off the waters.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Is this in Queenstown?
Speaker 3 (26:15):
In Queenstown? And then the craziest part was Mum had
this bowl of fake fruit on the on the dining
room table and the next day, when we were cleaning up,
Mom just picked up this like fake apple from her
centerpiece and went, what is this massive teeth marks the
(26:35):
fake apple.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Tracy McClean. It will teach you for having those.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Hideous fake pieces of fruit. That's a lesson and exactly.
But I know I'm not alone, and I know that
these teenage boys in America where the dad crashed the
party are not alone. This must have happened time and
time again.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
All right, let's take a walk down relaying then what
happened when you had a high school party.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Was it good? Was it bad? Any thing in between.
We'll take your calls.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Oh eight hundred the hats and we've got some prizes
to give away, thanks to give us Warehouse.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
We're talking high school parties. Next on the Head.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
Maddy and PJ. Mady and PJ the podcast The Heads.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
But before then, we're talking high school parties.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Ee, take me back.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
I went to them, but I was ever brave enough
to actually host one at my house because I was
the ultimate goodie girl.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Yeah, I did, and it did not go well. I
spent the next couple of days repainting the wall where
the banister was ripped off. And did you, continuing to
very sheepishly apologize to mom and dad.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Did you ever get grounded? Was that a thing in
your house?
Speaker 3 (27:45):
I was, because this was this was a genuine This
wasn't really my not your fault.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Yeah, thanks, just escalated.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Anyway, we wanted to talk high school parties.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Was it good?
Speaker 11 (27:55):
Was it bad?
Speaker 1 (27:56):
At last got Auckland Roxy joins us Roxy. What happened
at the high scho party?
Speaker 5 (28:01):
So I was about.
Speaker 10 (28:03):
Firsteen, maybe sixteen. I think it was like my first
high school party that I went to, and I was,
you know, drinking some raspberry vodka cruises take me back,
And I was picked up by my dad obviously later
(28:23):
on in the night, and I clearly had a little
bit too much to drink, and I threw up all
out the window, all the way down the side of
the car. My dad like, are you okay?
Speaker 5 (28:36):
And I was like yeah.
Speaker 10 (28:38):
They ordered some pizzas in the head and Chobies.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
On pizza, Dodgy pizza.
Speaker 10 (28:43):
And then the next day when I woke up, he
was cleaning the car and he goes, I don't know
what kind of pizza you had last night.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
But that did not go like, there is no way
that your dad was buying theizz the try though, I
love the Try. Let's go to Wellington. Cody is joining us.
What happened at the high school party?
Speaker 2 (29:04):
So back when I was in college, we used to
go out to a campground. It's about a fifteen minute
drive from school. So now second and final years of school,
we'd go out there and have a bit of a
party in the campground. One night we ended up getting of.
Someone had a van in a full DJ set, smoke machines,
(29:27):
the four works out in the middle of a paddock,
just just because washed off.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
That's like the ultimate bushed off.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Yeah, and yes, that was that was pretty good. The
whole campground ended up getting involved. They all joined in.
The only downside was later on that night someone someone's
guard got stolen, but it was recovered the next day.
It was lucky. But yeah, there you go.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Wellington a bit more upmarket than the house parties I
used to go to the I've just thrown at a garage.
If you were lucky, if you.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Were lucky, Hey, Coddy, thanks so much for you call.
We've got a little gift from chemist Warehouse. Coming away.
Speaker 6 (30:09):
Median PJ to podcast.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
That she has been a frantic show behind the scenes
today as we try and bring joy to Lauren who
is getting married tomorrow. She unfortunately decided it was a
good idea to steam her dress and the days leading
up as you do, but unfortunately has caused irreparable, irreversible damage. Yes,
(30:36):
and so we have put it to the power of
the people this afternoon, haven't we met it?
Speaker 3 (30:41):
We absolutely have, because we know how amazing you all are.
You're incredible and when people are in need, you come
to their aid. And so we said, does anyone, does
anyone have a dress that is sitting in the wardrobe
that they could lend Lauren for her big day? You know,
because you get married and you wear the dress and
(31:01):
then you often put it in the closet or you peck.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
It gets dust on it. You never use it again,
use it again.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
And boy did you come out in your drove. So
many people got in touch with us, sent us photos
of their wedding dress, told us where they were, the
size it was, the measurements.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
There have been so many amazing dresses, but we have
settled on one and that one dress as in christ Church.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
So cue this the intense music.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Let's go to our mule, Connor, who does the day
show live and christ Church.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Come in Connor.
Speaker 11 (31:34):
Yeah, gooday, guys, how are.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
We very well? Connor? So I gave you a very
frantic call earlier this afternoon and said, Connor, I need
your help. Imma, iimma, and christ Church has said she
would leand to address to Lauren. The issue is Laurens
and Nelson.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
What do we do?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
And you said, no, worries, I can help.
Speaker 11 (31:54):
I was worried you and asked me to drive to Nelson.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
I know you would have, and.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
That's how good of the man. You want to watch
the state of ocean. There's no way you'd be on
the road.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Okay, So we'll tell to us through what happened.
Speaker 11 (32:09):
So I went and picked up the dress from the
Lovely Woman and Emma was it love She said, look
the she was on the other floor. I would do that.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
I would hope that they would do the exact same thing.
Speaker 11 (32:20):
Picked up the dress, got into my two thousand and
five the airway, which fortunately didn't break down the way
on the way to the ceiling cargo depot, and met
up with PJ behind the front discity. PJ was here. Yeah,
great name, Yeah, great name. Awesome though, and PJ was
happy to sort us out.
Speaker 6 (32:39):
Put all the paperwork through.
Speaker 11 (32:40):
I signed my life away. I thought I was going
to have to pay fifty bucks for a second there,
but they did it to the free beat.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Okay, so the dress is ready to go on the flight.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
I think it's eight o'clock tonight that it heads off Nelson.
Speaker 11 (32:56):
Yes, they went sure there was a six thirty or
the later one because it's who apparently und of stuff
happening in Nelson with Kappa Harka thought it's super conduiting.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Oh my god, it just gets crazy crazier. But Connor,
you've done a good deed tonight, my friend, Thank you
very much.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Accomplished.
Speaker 11 (33:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't even do anything for you
no I know, no I know.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Now go home and enjoy the state of origin tonight.
And you have made Lauren and Nelson very very happy.
And a huge shout out to Emma and christ Church
who lent the dress, and a massive shout out to
in New Zealand who have come to the party to
help us get it to Nelson.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
So coming up, Niece on the show. There's only one
more thing today. We've spoken to Assessed, but we have
not spoken to the woman who suth Laurence's getting married
tomorrow at his time to deliver the good news that
the winning dress is on the way.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
Pay Jay the podcast.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
That boy, has it been an afternoon for us here
on the Hits, but more importantly for one very very
stressed out bride in Nelson. Lauren went to steam her
wedding dress last night. She is getting married tomorrow and
the dress is now very sadly ruined. So we thought,
(34:11):
can we find Lauren a replacement dress? Do any of
our listeners out there have a dress they can lend her?
And we are very very pleased to say we have
found the dress.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
And we welcome to the show for the first time
this afternoon. We've spoken about her a lot, but now
we get to meet the woman herself.
Speaker 7 (34:30):
Lauren, Hello, Hi, how are you going?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
We're so okay?
Speaker 12 (34:35):
How are you? Oh my gosh, Wow, it's been a
very stressful day.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yeah, I bet Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
So can we just tell you how many dresses we
have been Inundata whether since we talked about this after
three o'clock this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
People were just so touched by your story.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
I think everyone knows the stress that you endure leading
up to the big day, and they've just wanted to
help out. And we have been sending pictures back and forth.
We've had to get the right size, we've had to
get the right style, but Lauren, we've landed on one
and that was Emma's dress from christ You've seen it?
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Are you happy?
Speaker 6 (35:10):
I love it?
Speaker 5 (35:11):
I'm so happy and I just feel so overwhelmed, just
really pleased. But she was able to do that very
What a.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Beautiful thing to do for someone, right, she said, No,
she said to her to Connor, who works with us
on the hits, who when it picked up the dress,
she said, if the shoe was on the other foot,
I'm sure Lauren would have done this for me as.
Speaker 9 (35:31):
Well absolutely yeah, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Okay, so Lauren, the dress is going on an Air
New Zealand flight tonight to Nelson with all plans like
hopefully this all goes ahead. You were going to have
that dress in time for your wedding which takes place
tomorrow morning.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Talk about a quick turn around. Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Sam, Lauren, congratulations, and we hope you have the most
magical day tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (36:01):
Thank you so much, and thanks to em as well.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
It's absolutely amazing.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Lauren. You're going to have to send us a photo.
We're very invested in this now.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Invested. Hey, sending you all of the love. We hope
you have the most magical day and you please send
us some photos.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Lauren.
Speaker 9 (36:20):
Well, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Power Power of the people, guys, the people.
Speaker 6 (36:28):
Maddy and PJ. Mady and Pj the podcast.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
That it is time for another round of Melford Money Matters.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
We are interviewing Murray Harris from Milford to talk investments
to key we savor to debunk you know, money misconceptions
and look he's here to answer our questions. But remember
this is only info to help you understand more and
is not official financial advice. All right, So we're going
to crack into a few questions. Let's just rip the
(36:56):
band aid off. How much should we be contributing to
our we save it? And what sort of risk do
you reckon we should be taking.
Speaker 12 (37:03):
Yeah, let's look at that first one. That's a really
good question. I mean, you know, the minimum employee contribution
is three percent of your pay, then your boss should
be matching that with three percent on top. But you
can actually contribute four, six, eight or ten percent of
your income to your Kiwi saver. But the trouble we've
got is only two thirds or two thirds of KEIP
(37:26):
seven members are only doing the minimum three percent.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
So if you had the.
Speaker 12 (37:30):
Boss's contribution, because that's taxed, is only five percent of
your income that you're saving And most countries do ten.
Australia does eleven. Wow, and they're going to twelve.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Is five enough? You know, if people are only putting
in five now when they get to retirement age, are
they going to go? Man, I wish we'd put more
in back in the day.
Speaker 12 (37:48):
I've never met anybody who said I wish I'd saved less.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah, that's a good way putting it.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
I think, you know, at the moment times are really tied, right,
and so I can imagine people probably are pulling back
with this at the moment because they feel, you know,
right now, I've just got to survive. But I suppose
it's so important equally to think of your future self
as well.
Speaker 12 (38:10):
Well, you're paying yourself, right, you are paying your future self.
So yeah, look, we get it. Times can be tough,
and you can put your savings on hold and your
saving suspensions for your KIPI saver, and a lot have
done that. But if you do that, make sure you
put it back on as quickly as you can, because
you know, it really makes a big difference if you
stop for too long.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Talking about big differences. If people literally change the percentage
from say three to four, what could that extra one
percent contribution mean?
Speaker 12 (38:36):
Yeah, well, look the power of compounding interest, right, So
it's only a small adjustment, but it adds up over
a long period of time, so literally it could be
tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars more at
age sixty five. Wow, Now, I mean there's a lot
of numbers behind this, And we've got a calculator on
our website. You go and have a play round with that.
(38:57):
And you can put in your different contribution rates and
your income and things. Literally, somebody who's thirty five now
with a balance of thirty thousand could have nearly one
hundred thousand more if they were doing six percent versus
three and a balanced fund. So you know this is
real money. It makes a big difference.
Speaker 8 (39:15):
Now.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Risk is obviously a massive fact to consider. What do
you need to consider when it comes to risk, Well,
you need.
Speaker 12 (39:22):
To be comfortable with the risk that you're taking, and
we've all got a different risk appetites and so if
you've got a long term goal, you can afford to
take a bit more risk. Provider, you can still sleep
at night right because markets go up and down, so
you don't want to be worrying about it, but you
can afford to take more it because you've got more
time on your side to smooth out the ups and
downs and markets. If you've got a short term goal,
(39:42):
let's see, you're going to use your KIP saving to
buy a house in three years time, then you probably
don't want to take too much risk, so you want
more in a conservative fund which has invested in more
bonds and cash. If it's a long term goal, then
you can be more invested in shares and more of
a growth fund or an aggressive fund.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
So if people want to know a little bit more
understand about the risk, what should where should they go?
Speaker 12 (40:02):
Well, you can go to our website and play around
without calculator, so you can put in your age, your salary,
your contribution rate, and you can choose different funds and
see what that what a difference that makes sorted dot org,
dot nz they've got some good calculators as well. Go
and have a play around there or speak to an advisor,
get some advice. We've got advisors at Melford that can
help you. No charge for that. And look, advice is
(40:23):
a really important part of the equation as well. And
you know, maybe that's a topic for another day because
there's a lot we can talk about in the advice space.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Amazing.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
To wrap it up, Murray, if people are thinking about
making the switch to Melford, it's super easy.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
Just run us through it quickly.
Speaker 12 (40:35):
To wrap it up, Yeah, jumping our website takes less
than five minutes. Your passport or your driver's license, your
ID number, your name and address and all those sort
of details and we take care of it all for you.
No awkward conversations with your current provider.
Speaker 6 (40:47):
Love many in PJ the Podcast that's
