This is NEWSFACS in this update. Today is the summer's
most accident prone day. Acc data shows over the past
five years, New Year's Day accidents have prompted more than
twenty seven thousand claims. New Year's Eve takes second place

The Electoral Commissions encouraging eligible voters to enroll early before
this year's general election. Under voting law changes taking effect today,
enrollment will now close thirteen days before the election. Voters

Chief Electoral Officer Carl la Kaine says students in particular
should get this sorted out quickly.

We're encouraging students who might be moving in the new
year particularly look at whether you are enrolled and if
you are, to update your addresses if you're moving for study.

And MB is urging employers to know their obligations during
the holiday period. Most employees working a public holiday like
today are entitled to be paid time and a half
and an additional paid day off. Compliance manager David Milne
says there's a spy and complaints during the holidays with
employers not meeting expectations.

That is why we've take them the opportunity to message
out to retailers and employers to make sure that there
are wares of obligations in how they treat their workers.
