Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good afternoon. I'm Railing Ramsey. This is your afternoon news
fix for Wednesday, the eighth of October. Today's ocr cut
probably won't be the last in the current cycle. The
Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Committee agreed by consensus to cut
the cash rate fifty basis points to two point five percent.
They expect economic conditions will stop inflation getting too high.

(00:28):
The heralds Liam Dan says there's scope for at least
one more cut. They've implied that they'll go to two
point twenty five and that's sort of priced and expected
by the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
They could go to two.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
If things don't really pull up, they could go to zero.
Police are asking the public to help them as they
hunt for suspects and the double homicide of a father
and son. They say a house fire in Buckland's Beach
last Thursday was deliberately lit with evidence of an accelerant found.
The mother, a second son, and a border survived. Detective

(00:59):
Inspector top Lao for Ma Nuya va Ilua says the
determined to find who was responsible, appealing to the public,
specifically those who live on or around Mervale Drive for
any footage you may have of the road. The street
surrounding properties in the days are now is leading up
to the fire. An Auckland bus driver has pleaded guilty
to the manslaughter of passenger Peter Mark Takeda in April.

(01:23):
The sixty one year old died after he fell and
hit his head on the pavement when mkay Fuk punched him.
Jordan Dunn has more.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
It's claimed the driver and passenger had multiple previous arguments
over fares before the fatal encounter in Pappa Toy Toy
on that day. Our fulk hit Tikeda after he reportedly
told the driver he should return to his own country,
having boarded the bus without paying. The thirty four year
old will be sentenced in February.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Labour's welcoming a new poll favoring Chris Hipkins over Chris
Luxon as preferred prime Minister. The Taxpayer's Union Caurier poll
shows Labor down two point six percent on thirty one
point two but topping nationals twenty nine point six. Hipkins
scores twenty point nine percent in the PM stakes against
Luxon's nineteen point eight. He says it's encouraging the overall

(02:15):
trajectory for US has been very positive and has been
very negative trajectory for the National Party suspicion from the
Public Service Minister over a mass strike in October. With
numbers growing weekly, tens of thousands of union members are
planning to down tools on October twenty three, including teachers, nurses, doctors,

(02:35):
assistants and dentists. Judith Collins is not impressed.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
What I've been told that this was planned quite some
time ago, when people were supposed to be at or
even were at the negotiating table, so it does look
actually a little bit cynical.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
In sports, New Zealand Rugby League is continuing to lobby
for more internationals, with CEO Greg peter Is saying it's staggering.
The Kiwis may not face Australia until twenty twenty eight
if they don't cross paths at next year's World Cup.
Skipper Alex Rufe has revealed the Wellington Phoenix as a
adopting I should say, a more aggressive approach for their

(03:16):
upcoming A League football campaign. And the twenty thirty two
Brisbane Olympics is open for business, with organizers now seeking
suppliers for what will be thousands of business opportunities. That's
your latest news fix. We'll be back with the next
update tomorrow morning. From the News Talk's ZB newsroom.
