From the news talks edby Newsroom. This is newsfacs in
this update. More wet weather to come for the North Island.
This evening Met Services issued a severe thunderstorm watch for
Northland in force for another hour, with parts of the
region experiencing flooding today. A heavy rain watch is also
in place for Auckland. Overnight. Met Service meteorologist John Law

(00:25):
says downpours will continue for both regions on into the
night and in amongst that there could well be some
thunderstorms as well. System displays the thunder and lining as
we had in towards the night time. New Zealand's playing
catch up when it comes to public charges for electric vehicles.
The governments announced it switching from grants to interest free loans,
which will cover half the charger's cost. Transport Minister christ

(00:48):
Bishop says we're lagging behind the rest of the OECD
when it comes to the number of charges per car.
Mister Bishop says Chargenet, Meridian and z Energy are just
some of the private sector companies providing chargers. So the
ranger private provided out there now and so we're not
picking any one particular provider. Will be a competitive procurement process.
The Department of Conservation is examining a dead yellow bellied

(01:10):
sea snake found on Omaha Beach north of Auckland. It
washed up alive earlier today, but died before rangers arrived.
Doc warns people to steer clear if they encounter one
because these native snakes are venomous and can be aggressive.
Senior Ranger Carl Fisher says examinations are ongoing and they've
yet to confirm the cause of the snake's death. He

(01:31):
says it may have been attacked by a dog or
hit by a piece of wood. New Zealand's only Catholic
cardinal hopes a new pope will carry on Francis's legacy.
Francis's papacy was known for his outreach to groups which
weren't traditionally associated with the church, like the Rainbow Community
and divorced people. Cardinal John Dewe wants the new pope

(01:51):
to be gospel centered.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
I want to see someone who encourages others to live
for the Gospel and to know that living the Gospel
brings life and hope. And I think Francis has bought
life and hope.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
That's news. In Sport Auckland, FC coach Steve Corricker heads
into the penultimate game of the A League football season
in exactly the place he planned to be. Auckland's just
underway against the Perth Glory at Mount Smart having clinched
the Premier's plate as regular season champs. Cocker says when
he took the job he brought into the dream of

(02:26):
Auckland FC owner Bill Foley.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
He's very ambitious. He does want to win stuff and
that's what I'm all about at the end of day,
is about winning trophies and it's hard to get into
this position and hard to win trophies. And the boys
should be proud of himself so far what they've achieved,
but again there's still a long way to go.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
A silver lining for Tom Saunders in his first international
sailing regatta of the year. The New Zealand has finished
