Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
news fix for Friday, the twenty seventh of June. Authorities
in the Upper South Island are hopeful the worst of
the intense rainfall has passed. A local state of emergency
has been declared for Nelson and Tasman, while Marlborough's remains
in place. Peak rates of up to twenty millimeters an

hour are expected for the wider area around the middle
of the day. Nelson Mayor Nick Smith says heavy rainfall
in the early morning has resulted in extensive flooding.

The greatest damages in the lower stretches of the Moderwaker
River areas like Waiti and the Wye near plains. There
has been one evacuation in Nelson, but Tesman has had
the greatest.

Runt emergency management. Minister Mark Mitchell is worth civil defense
staff in Blenham and severe weather has also been battering Auckland.
Emergency services have been responding to a partial collapse of
a building on Blockhouse Bay Road in Avondale. Surface flooding,

fallen onto a house in Mangade. An orange heavy rain
warning has been issued for Bay of Plenty and Gisbon District.
One person has died and another is critically injured after
a car allegedly shoved another off the road in Auckland's
Monaraywa early this morning. The car hit a tree, killing

its passenger and leaving the driver in a critical condition.
Herald reporter Rachel Mayers says the other driver was arrested
at the scene and police have launched an investigation.

New Zealand First MP Tanya Unkovich has quit parliament. The
back bench New Zealand First MP was elected in twenty
