Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
NEWSFACS for Wednesday, the thirtieth of October. The government's paying
historic legal fees for survivors of torture at the Lake
Alice Hospital. The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse and
Care formally acknowledged that children were tortured at the Munawatu
Psychiatric Hospital in two thousand and one. Ninety five. Survivors
(00:27):
reached a six point five million dollar settlement with the Crown,
but lost more than two and a half million in
legal fees. Minister in Charge Ericus Stanford says this puts
right a decades long injustice.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
It's been a source of frustration and the Lake Eala
survivors have said that it has been an inequity for
twenty years.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
The Construction Minister says the industry has been calling for
a consent overhaul for years. The government's planning reforms to
let tradespeople forego inspections and consent their own work for
base housing criteria is also being considered to let businesses
with a track record on big project delivery access streamlined consenting.

Chris Penk says they've been discussing these changes for about
twelve months, so with a couple of months worth of
further consultation.

Therefore it'll be early next year that have not been
in a position to make some decisions, and then obviously
legislation there is needed.

Road safety advocates are pushing back on increasing speed limits
following government orders. Christ Church City Council is beginning to
revert streets that labor had dropped to thirty kilometers an
hour back to fifty. They have a deadline of next July.
Break New Zealand director Caroline Perry says this goes against
international best practice. Lots of research and evidence out there

in terms of the difference that lower steed limits make
in reducing un serious injuries. The judge overseeing King Zou
Charles murder trial has asked the jury not to take
any negative inference from his absence today. The Chinese national

A studies highlighting these significant mental health burden for survivors
of the Christ Church Mosk attacks Otago University followed nearly
one hundred and ninety of the two hundred and fifty
survivors and bereaved family members for three years, more than
sixty percent developed PTSD anxiety or depressive disorders. Lead author

Rakaiah Suliman Hill says the huge figure was a surprise.

Also of note that seventy six fiercent of people were
diagnosed with more than one condition, often had two or
maybe even three of those conditions.

To Sport England, prop Joe Mahler has called for the
All Blacks to get rid of the harker, claiming that
