Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
NEWSFACS for Wednesday, the thirtieth of October. The government's paying
historic legal fees for survivors of torture at the Lake
Alice Hospital. The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse and
Care formally acknowledged that children were tortured at the Munawatu
Psychiatric Hospital in two thousand and one. Ninety five. Survivors

reached a six point five million dollar settlement with the Crown,
but lost more than two and a half million in
legal fees. Minister in Charge Ericus Stanford says this puts
right a decades long injustice.

It's been a source of frustration and the Lake Eala
survivors have said that it has been an inequity for
twenty years.

The Construction Minister says the industry has been calling for
a consent overhaul for years. The government's planning reforms to
let tradespeople forego inspections and consent their own work for
base housing criteria is also being considered to let businesses
with a track record on big project delivery access streamlined consenting.

Chris Penk says they've been discussing these changes for about
twelve months, so with a couple of months worth of
further consultation.
