Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good morning. I'm never Rettimanu and this is your morning
news fix for Monday, fifteenth of September. In this update,
Health New Zealand's expanding family visiting hours to twenty four
to seven in hospitals nationwide. In a note sent out
to staff, Health en Z Chief Executive Dale Bramley says
the new policy is a step to elevate compassion within

(00:26):
their culture. National chief Nurse Nadine Gray says once introduced,
family members can be nominated to support patients in hospital
twenty four to seven outside visiting hours, but the nurses
organization claims staff shortages are behind the decision. A promoter
says New Zealand's now looking like a serious contender against

(00:46):
Australia for major events following a seventy million dollar government boost.
The newly announced package includes forty million dollars to secure
large scale international events from next year and a ten
million dollar fund to support existing events. It also includes
a ten million regional tourism campaign to attract international visitors.

(01:07):
Ekeles Entertainment founder Brent Eckles says Australia is normally front
of mind for promoters looking at Australasia would always lag
behind Melbourn Sidney, but now we're stepping up and we
should say signific and change. An Auckland woman is accusing
kind of order of threatening and coercing her legally blind,
elderly mother to leave their state home. Amanda lives with

(01:29):
her eighty seven year old mother in their South Auckland home,
which is now being sold by the housing agency. She's
provided three doctor's letters explaining a move could put her
mother at risk of falling because of her low vision
and hearing issues. However, Kina Order has issued a ninety
day notice to evict the pair. Amanda says she's delaying

(01:49):
that by taking the agency to the Tendency Tribunal over
the decision. It's thought schools need to dig deeper into
attendance data to improve truancy. U data show six hundred
schools are struggling to reach the government's twenty thirty goal
of having eighty percent of students attending more than ninety
percent of the time. Principals Federation president Leanne or Tenney

(02:13):
says unjustified absences are a small factor, and she told
Ryan Bridge justified absences like illness and family emergencies make
up the bulk of these stats to say that parents
are keeping children home because they are there too lazy,
and that's the quite of same. It's just not fear.
That is not the reality. Secondary school teachers are disappointed

(02:35):
they have to strike to get the government to listen.
Union members are planning Staggard strike action this week, not
teaching year twelve and thirteen today, Year eleven tomorrow, Year
ten on Wednesday and year nine on Thursday. PPTA president
Chris Aba Crombie says they hope this will get the
government to shift the needle on the offer. In sport,

(02:57):
the final stage of the Valta Ispanyas Cycling Grand Tour
has been called off entering Madrid due to a pro
Palestinian protest. The next week of NRAL League playoffs are set.
The Raiders will host the Sharks on Saturday and the
Panthers will play the Bulldogs on Sunday. Hamish Kerr has
qualified for the high jump final at the World Athletics

(03:19):
Championships in Tokyo. Former World boxing champion Ricky Hatton has
died aged forty six, at his home in Greater Manchester.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious. I'm Nevaretti,
Maru and that you latest news fix. We'll be back
with the next update at midday from the newstalk ZB
