Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio hodarchis Off the Record podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
With Let's have a chat with Louis Bacaker.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Brother. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah? Really well? Thanks. You're in the Capital city this evening.
How's the week been?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Oh it's been good man. Yeah, just been working on
some new music and producing and chipping away here in
the studio at home.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah all right, so you've got a home studio. Is
music your full time thing? Do you have any other
sort of jobs? Any other fingers and different pies?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Not really, Bro, It's it's definitely the full time thing,
has been for like the last twelve years now. Yeah.
Pretty lucky to do music for a job. Yeah, excellent,
Not really a job, but it feels good.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Where's it taken you this year?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
This year has kind of been here in alt but
last year it kind of took me around Europe and
UK with Fat Freedist Drop to tour with them to
nineteen dates over those ways.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
So how is that?

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Oh? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
It was awesome. Loved it, Bro, such a buzz. They're
a very well oiled unit by now, Fat Freddy is
I've known them for quite a long time. Just a
beautiful thing. Man, work really well.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
And you're connected with a few people there, made some fans.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
There's a few fans over there, you know, Like definitely
cool to get out on the road and connect with people,
and yeah, just go to different places and travel and
see the world. It's awesome to do. I've probably done
eight or nine tours over there by myself, different times
of year, all through the last ten years. So yeah,

(01:43):
it's the first time I've gone away with Freddy's though,
so so pretty special.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
And since you've been all these times at different times
of the year, what do you reckon. Your favorite time
of year is to go.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Definitely summer, bro it's crazy over there. It's nice and hot.
Yeah it was. It was getting up in the early
forties around Italy last time, so they had that kind
of heat wave there. It was pretty crazy, but definitely
real nice to head away in summer.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well, their summer is our winter as in right now,
And I see fat Freddy's dropping actually back in Europe
at the moment. You didn't want to shoehorn yourself into
that tour again.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, nah, not this one, but who knows, might be
the next one.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Not sure yet, Yeah, okay, nice. In the meantime, you
have hooked up with some other musos who call themselves black.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Comet Yeah, black Cometters. My good friend Lawton Carter's baby,
and it's kind of like a collaboration, a moving, evolving
collab thing, And he basically asked me to come and
jump on a track called Sleep. Yeah. Man, was just
a joy to make some music with him, because I've
always always been a big follower of Lortie and yeah,

(02:55):
we're good friends now, so it's quite a special thing.
I remember listening to music when I was like, I
don't know, seventeen eighteen and those first Quarter records, And
you've always been a big, big fan of his work
and who he is as a person.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And how did this work out? Did you jam with them?
Because they're all based in turning, aren't.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
They actually went up to Tiki Tanes for like a
little writing thing with my good friend Sam Allen and Lawton.
They kind of already had the song in a good place.
It was already pretty much written, so I actually didn't
write on the tune, but like, I guess I'm a
feature artist full stop on this tune. But yeah, they

(03:38):
asked me to jump on, and I was like, Man,
Lawton's voice sounded mean on it already, so but yeah,
they were real keen to have me on it, so yeah,
I loved I love working on it now.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
One thing that sticks out in this song, apart from
your voice, is the bass playing man that.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Is none other than Dan Antenovich. He's a monster player.
I've actually never met him in real life, but I've
just heard all these stories and obviously heard his bass
playing on that record and incredible playing. I wasn't in
the room when it when it was made, obviously, but yeah,
pretty pretty knockout stuff. Favor.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, absolutely, well shall we check it out?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Hey, Kilder. This is the new single Sleep by a
Black Comet featuring Louis Baker on holder.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I don't want to see how'd you run the sun down?
It's your.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Just you me?

Speaker 4 (05:06):
I don't want to dream. How'd you win the night further?
Further with me? Because I don't want to sleep? Start up?
Won't you run away with me? Said a mys galaxy.

(05:31):
If you own knew how.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Much you mean to me, then you would see s
do even when the fire child a man to watch
her call and turn.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
I have to I do that all for you. I
don't want to dream.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
How do you win the night, burn out, burn with me,
because I.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Don't want to sleep.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
Without you, without shoes, without ship.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
With su not to dream.

Speaker 6 (06:37):
Shop without.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Without shoes.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
With such you, without you, without you, without.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
You, it's really a headache. And that's branding you. From
Black Comet featuring Louis Baker on vocals. It's called Sleep
and we're lucky enough to have Louis on a zoom
with us now, Kilder Louis, thanks for bringing us that
churn this evening.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Kodobo. Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Nice work, and you've got to be a part of
that song. You recorded it at Tiki Tane studio when
you were just visiting for something else and Lord and chorus,
you think, can you just jump on this track while
you're here? So pretty much that happened pretty much.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah, that's right. Like we were there just sort of jamming,
coming up with ideas and collaborating and doing some stuff
at Ticky's studio and then yeah, they had this this
tune called Sleep, which was already formed and created, and
then they were like, you know, why don't you just
jump on see how your vocals sound, And we tried

(08:51):
that and they were really pretty toughed. So Yeah, I
stayed on the track. They let me stay on.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
You stay on, And now it's out there in the world.
I've been touring the country over the last few weeks.
I saw there on Way Beach Hotel a couple of
weeks ago. I think they've been all over the place.
Have you been a part of any of this? Have
you hit the road with them at all? Nah?

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Bro, But I'm sure it's in the you know, sometime
in the future. Will definitely do something together. Yeah. I'd
love to love to jump up on stage at some
point with Lortie.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Mean, yeah, have you done that before?

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Nah Na, not with Lawton, so you know it'll be
first for me. I actually no, I lie. There was
one time he did some BVS on this thing at
the town Hall in Auckland. I don't know if you remember.
There was like a I did this thing with an orchestra,
the APO. It was a full collab thing at the

(09:44):
town hall. But we did that. But I feel like
we haven't really gone the full way yet. You know,
we need to have another proper whon.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah. I was at that show. Actually, it was amazing.
Can you do one of them again?

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Love to Bro, I'd love to man, that was super
epic doing it with the orchestra like no other kind
of gurg I'll be done.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I imagine there's quite a lot of logistics involved.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah, I don't even know the half of it. Bro
to be fair, like, I turn up and you know,
I've worked with the arranger and I know what's going
to happen. But for them, you know, it's like they've
got a seventy five piece orchestra or whatever, and you know,
there's a lot of work I'd imagine.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah. Meantime, you have been doing your own thing. There's
a rumor I hear that some sort of album in
the works.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yes, bro, Yeah, so there's a record coming out later
this year, set to announce soon.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And if we wanted to delve into any of the
music that's been released from that album so far, the
Fools Expectations song, for instance, Where's the best place to
check that out or find out information about you?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Is the gram on Louis Baker music or Facebook Louis
Baker Music.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Now your music has a great summer vibe? Is there
at your talks or rumors or phone calls or emails
being exchanged at the moment about maybe once the album
is out doing a few shows around the country.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
I'll hopefully do some shows around the release of this record. Yeah.
Just looking forward to getting out on the road and
playing some more live music. Man be fun.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Yeah, I can't wait. Well, we'll keep an eye on
those social accounts for you. Louis Baker. Thanks your time
on Hodekee.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Thanks brother, thanks for having me.
