Hello there and welcome into the Sports Fixed podcast. It's

and help a little bit today by paracetamol and Limb sip.

Speaker 3 (00:37):

Brave and I'm super pleased that Aron Wellington not here
in the studio with me, mate, That is fantastic. Ye ye,
keep your lurgies to yourself, my friend.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I well, I'll keep them down here now. Quite a
bit to talk today. I want to talk about the
All Blacks team being named tonight. What do we predict.
We know there'll be at least one change, with Kayleb
Clark out and I guess Scott Bauert coming back, but
there might be others as well. We can yarn about that.
In terms of a guest today who we're hearing.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
From Piney, We're going to have a chat with Chris
Jones here the Correspondent Writer Podcast out of the b
b C. As we look forward to well, as we know,
a massive game of rugby over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Looking forward to that and the latest and sports news
as well. So let's get into it.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Yeah, let's and you want me to predict I predict
a riot. We'll get into that in the chamber later
in the piece for let's advance forward.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Now in other news, let's get things going with a
look at some of the big sports stories around today
are resurgent showing from the ninth place breakers in basketball's
AMBL trouncing the eighth righth Bullets one thirteen eighty four
last night, his head coach, but Terry Copenhan.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Got many famous is today we shared the bore weak
decisions and we find open guys and everything started.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
From defense in an offense. You know, we were able
to convert.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
England Test cricket captain Ben Stokes has defended his sides
unorthodox ashes preparation as they aim to break what would
be a fifteen year windless run in Australia. They'll start
their soul at three Day, a warm up game against
an England Development team today. The decision to avoid any
local opposition has prompted questions about whether they'll be underprepared.

Speaker 6 (02:17):
I don't really know what we're supposed to do, to
be honest, Yeah, preparations like we've been prepared for this
for a long time.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
The schedule's pretty jump back to be able to prepare.

Speaker 6 (02:25):
I think how teams probably would have been ten, fifteen,
twenty thirty years ago as well.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
And a return of serve master class from defending champion
Yannick Center on day four of tennis's EIGHTP Finals in Turin,
the world number two Italians into the semis with a
match to spare after beating third seed Alexander's Vere even straight.

Speaker 7 (02:43):
Seats, trying to look out on every chance I got
so I felt like I was serving very well today
in important moments, and this brings me under confidence, trying
to play a little bit freer, you know, the return games,
but generally dodalking.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
I'm very happy use and a villion It's Sports Fix
with Jason Hine and Dussy Walter Grave.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
It's a warm welcome now to Chris Jones out of
the BBC Rugby Addict. It's always good to catch charb
with Chris Welcome to the program. I suppose fist up.
This is arguably the biggest game of the Northern Hemisphere
Grand Slam Tour, is it? Have we got that much
to be afraid of when it comes to the English side?

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Oh good to be here, Great to chat to you
guys as ever. Yeah, look in this part of the while,
we're really excited for this one. England have been been
up and down for a while, but they've got some
form together on the Steve Borth. They've won their last nine.
This is the chance to win a tenth in a row.
Not being in the All Blacks though in six years,

(03:45):
not being in the spring Box in four So it's
about time England took a big Southern Hemisphere scalp. The
bookies have got This is a one point game in
England's favor Very very rare for Hiland to start as
the bookie's favorites or being narrowly against the All Blacks.
You think that the All Blacks just might have that
tiny bit of an edge because they won three tight games.

(04:05):
But certainly there's some momentum around England. The moment there's
some belief around England there's some strength and depth they've
stacked their bench. So yeah, there'll be a pretty expectant
home crowd at Twickenham on Saturday. He will feel this
is the time for England to get one over the
news Inders, Chris.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
The English side was released a couple of days ago.
Now a number of changes from that Fiji in match.
Is there anything that peaked your interest and any player
that's involved that is a clear and prison danger for
the All Black side.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
Well, the fly half is so interesting for England at
the moment because they've got a few good options. When
England played you guys last Marcus Smith was at fly
half for all three of those Test matches in twenty
twenty four. He lost his place then to Finn Smith
in the Six Nations and then Finn Smith lost it

(04:56):
to George Ford when Finn Smith was on the Lions
tour as was Marcus Smith and George Ford started against
the Wallabies, Finn played against Australia against Fiji rather and
now George Ford's back for the All Black So ten
is really interesting because you've got a real those mix
of options there, from kind of the running option in
Marcus Smith to the experienced option of George Ford. Vin

(05:19):
Smith's a good all rounder who is the future. But
George Ford definitely deserves the shirt and he's got a
few things to put right from this time last year
where he came off the bench and missed a kick,
hit the post and then pushed the drop goal wide
which would have won the game at the end for England.
So expect George to be bang up for showing what
he's all about. But the bit that I think is

(05:41):
catching most people's eye over here is not the starting fifteen.
It's what's support is leading back on the bench of
the replacement six of British and Irish Lions. Of that
sixth a good number of them with Test Lions. The
whole front row genj Cowen, Dickey and Will Stewart have

(06:02):
played Test matches for the lines, either on this Torge
just gone or the one in twenty twenty one. Tom
Curry is one of England's greatest ever back rows who
has been a starting Test flanker on the last two
tours for the Lions. Henry Pollocks the young tearaway, Ben
Spencer's a tital winner with Bath and Marcus Smith has
got forty odd caps and has played a lot a

(06:23):
lot of this level, so Steve Borthwick is banking a
lot on England being in the game on sixty and
he's hoping this bench could do what they weren't able
to do the last few times England played Newseum, which
has take England over the line because the Alls have
dominated the final quarter. On the last three times these
teams have met, England haven't been able to even score

(06:44):
a point after sixty. That's been the big area for
Steve Borthwick to rectify since England last played New Zealand.
And we'll see on Saturday whether this this bench selection
holding back so many gun players will be vindicated. From
Steve Borthwick's point of view.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Of course, skipper Atoji Becky gain in the second row,
I'm interested in what threats did you were? Boso brings
this guy as an excitement machine.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Yeah, he's looking good. So he hasn't had the easiest year.
He got a big injury which ruled him out of
some Test matches and probably stopped him going on the
Lions tour. Then he got a BAM which meant that
he missed the first couple of Test matches on England
summer tour, so he is. He is absolutely raring and
he's been looking sharp without getting a ton of ball.

(07:34):
They wanted him on the ball more than he was
on the ball against Australia, but he got plenty of
it against Beg. Scored a big try this time last
year against the All Blacks. Very explosive, very dynamic start
of his Test journey. But a guy with all the
tools on the other wing. Tom Roebuck is a good, tall, rangey,

(07:54):
powerful runner, very good in the air out of the
Tommy Freeman. Mold Freeman is injured, which is a blow,
but Roebucks are like for like who's in really good
form and is showing what he can do for club
and country. So yeah, England, they've got options now. They
would probably love to have Elliot Daily, George Fairbank Fit
or Freddie Stewart's, you know, very solid option at number fifteen.

(08:17):
They'd love to have Tommy Freeman. They'd love to body Chesham,
but the All Blacks are missing a few. Jordi Barret's
already at home, isn't he? A couple of others on
tour or have had to go back, so I think
it's probably a bit honest, even when it comes to
players missing. It's all set up to be a really,
really good one news It's.

Speaker 6 (08:36):
Sports Fix with.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
I should love the taste of humble Pie because I
spend quite a lot of time eating it and I
will again today. Yesterday on the podcast, I had a
right crack at Pettiri Corporan, who is the head coach
of the Breakers in the Australian National Basketball League, pointing
the finger him for the lack of success over the

(09:02):
last couple of season that this team has had play.
Either players can be just as culpable, but he is
their head coach, so it really does rest on him.
Fresh after having a crack, what did the Breakers do?
They turned around, They take on the Brisbane Bullets and
they murderalize them. They stomped them, they shot them to pieces,

(09:23):
They out drew them and came away with the victory.
Not only did they get the points for their AMBL
they also picked up six key points for the Ignite Cup,
which may well find them competing for three hundred thousand dollars.
Later in the piece, something clicked for the Breakers, whether

(09:44):
that was what Terry Corporan did for the side, whether
it was the fact that suddenly all the scoring threats
all scored at the same time. Do you appointed at Parker,
Jackson Cartwright. Do you look at arguably the freak of
the season, which is the massive Sam Menninger. You can
go right across the court, look at all of the

(10:05):
players and the coaching staff, including Judd Flavel, the Tall
Blacks coach, and say, you know what, job well done.
I almost didn't watch it last night, so sick of
being disappointed in the last quarter, sat down. I did
and I was blown away by the performance. So PETERA.
Corpinin go, well, keep your job. Let's just make it consistent,

(10:30):
because we do not want more mercurial happenings from the
Breakers as they charge in to the back end of
the season.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
The Chamber is now in session on Sportsfax.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Into the Chamber we go to kick around a couple
of pertinent sporting issues. In a few hours from now,
depending of course, on when you're listening to this, the
All Blacks team will be revealed to take on England
at twicken ten past four New Zealand Times Sunday morning.
We know that there's no Caleb Clark on the left
wing dark so let's get straight into it. Who wears
eleven for you on Sunday morning?

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Lester fang Anuka and he wears eleven because of his size.
And I don't think we need a situation where we're
swapping Jordan out to one wing, sticking mckens in at fallback,
who's proved to be a very effective man off the bench.
I think we need a bit of bulk out there
with no Caleb Clark. So I'm plumping that Lester goes there,

(11:23):
and then in the midfield, well, maybe Billy Procter gets
another shot, or Anton lennot Brown all. I expect Albie's
probably going to come off the bench. What about yourself?

Speaker 2 (11:32):
What's happened to Rico Yowanne? What has happened to Rico?
But when was the last time even played for the
All Blacks? I think it might have been the Perth Test.
He hasn't featured on this tour, this northern tour Ireland Scotland.
And if you're right, and I think you probably are,
he doesn't get picked for this game against England, he
might get the back end or against Wales, no Ricou Ywani.

(11:52):
I think we might have spoken about this in the
chamber last week.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
What is his All Black's future.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
The times they are at changing, I'm not sure. If
the soud he's been in touch with him for three sexty,
I wouldn't know something's fallen foul of him. I think
that because Raiser didn't want him in the midfield, he
wanted to push him out. And you know, over twenty
seven years old, no one gets to play on the
wing anymore out there, but he may well turn up

(12:17):
as a substitute in that team is named because he
has the ability to run. It seemed to have the
ability to run at wing, so that could be a
shout as well over Anton Lennott Brown. Does it mean
to say LB's got a bit of a tendency to
attract yellow I.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Think the stats would probably back that up.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yeah, look, he might, but then he wouldn't be the
only one if we take last weekend as an example
of yellow fever among the All Blacks. Look, I feel
like you know, I'm nodding my head at all of
your at all of your suggestions. I think Lester on
the wing is the right idea. I think they'll probably
go back to Billy Proctor at center. Scott Barrett if
available will play, won't he. It's a shame for Josh Lord,

(12:57):
who had a really good test last week. But I
would imagine Josh Lord would go back onto the bench
and provide his impact from there.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
Do you imagine Josh Lord lost Lord keeps the all
Black captain on the beach? Now that would be a
talking point.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Yeah, I don't think it happens. Don't think it happens.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
All right, So nine o'clock to night, New Zealand time
is when that team will be officially revealed.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Here you go, he can't get away of this. What
about the Lucy's What are we doing with that? I
mean Satitis needs to be punished for his indiscretions last week.
You think Peter Larky is going to stay where he is,
Addie sa Via. So does some spa Simon Parker come
straight back in? Do you think of that? Least Ford Trier?

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Yes, I don't think it's a punishment for Wallacer TSI
to be had. I think you are angry.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Angry.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
I think they might because dropping resting Parker last week
for what could be a very physical battle against England
may have been part of the strategy. And if it was,
then'll mean Parker starts. Parker starts at twicking him on
Sunday morning, and perhaps Wallace a Titi provides the impact
off the bench. I think Satiti still has to be there.

(14:01):
He's grown into this year. Took him a while to
get going compared to last year, but he is getting
back towards what I think we all generally recogn eyes
as a very very good rugby player. But yeah, I
would be surprised if they go Parker Savia Larkye how
could the story has beater Larkeye by the way, you know,
he would have been anything but in all Black's first
choice at the start of the season in the eyes

(14:22):
of many. But what he played in Perth, he played
against Ireland, he played against Scotland, to probably play against England.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Maybe he is the number eight moving forward.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
I suppose we wait, we seen if there's any surprises,
I'll say, hey, this team really looking forward to seeing
what they can bring, what they can present in hoping
that Satiti and Carter and savea spent a bit of
time on the naughty bench for what they did last week.
You cannot spend thirty minutes against England with only fourteen

(14:51):
players on the park. I hope they learned their lessons.
Don't do that again.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I think they should be. I think they consider themselves
told just before he move. Do you expect against Wales
next week provided they get the one over England, which
or even if they don't, do you expect Wales to
be a bit of an all changed situation and that
guys who have been on this tour and haven't got
an opportunity will get their opportunity in the season ending

(15:16):
match in Cardiff if.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
They lose against England. Yeah, sure, I think they will.
But I'd be very careful about underestimating Wales. We know
their pants. But if this game is the one that's
going to secure their first Grand Slam, and was it
fifteen years, I'd be loath to put a whole lot
of younger or less experienced players on. I need to

(15:37):
finish this with a bang if that is the case.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Yet, yep. Agree.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Nine o'clock to night. Team named four ten Sunday morning
is kickoff at Twickenham. Just twick word on the Olympics.
The twenty twenty eight Los Angeles Olympic schedule is out.
It is quite a change normally in the Olympic Games.
We have a week of swimming and then a week
of track and field. We are going to have those things,
but in reverse. We're going to start with the track
and field in twenty twenty eight, and the second week

(16:04):
of the Games is going to be the swimming, and
in amongst all of them that on the very first day,
the women's one hundred meter champion is going to be
crowned heats semis and final. On day two, men's one
hundred meters heats semis and final. They chucking out a
lot of the big stuff early on us.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Oh, there's such contrarians, aren't they, though, the Americans. We've
got to do it different. We need to do something different. Look,
as long as all the events are there, I understand
why I'm starting it with an explosion, because the sprints
are all the track and field in essence the heart
and soul, aren't they of the Olympic Games. I think
they want to project that at the start. Look, I

(16:44):
read something really weird today that there are fourteen million
tickets available for the two weeks. And I only to
look at that when come on, you're kidding me. It's
got to be a typo, right, seven million a week.
But I suppose if you extrapolate, you look at the
amount of team games, you look at the marathon, you
look at the triathlon, there probably is going to be
a lot of tickets available. When I said that, did

(17:05):
you go what.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, that is a lot.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I've always assumed that the marathon, for example, is a
free event. You just turn up on the side of
the road and watch it. So I'm not sure that
they'll be selling tickets for that, But I think you're
right all of the other things. I mean that the
session upon session of the team sports, you know ones
that New Zealand don't even have a team in. Yeah,
it does sound like a lot of tickets, but I'm
sure it's right a typo.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Maybe I'm making a point of something it doesn't exist,
but it did strike me as unusual. Do you think
Zoe Hobbs is going to be excited by this getting
going really fastest, you're going to be able to actually
progress through because when you're running all these heats before
the final, I suppose changes the energy in the races
about what athletes can actually deal with that that work load.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yep, I agree with that. And because it's always split
over two days, normally isn't it? You have heats in
a semi on one day and then the final the
next door a heat and then semis and final. I
can't I can't remember an athletics event, and I could
be wrong where you do heat, semis and final all
on one day.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
But you're right. Zobe Hobbes is going to turn up
to the Olympics and her day is day one. That's it.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
She hits the ground running, hopefully very fast and who knows,
maybe it will be something instead of having to wait
around and you know, sort of because often they say
with these things it's like it's like everything, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (18:23):
You know, the waiting is often the hardest part. You
just want to get there.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
So look, if she can get out there Zoe and
the others and just go for it from day one,
maybe that's the Maybe that's the right thing. But a
lot of metals, you know, involving New Zealanders up for grabs.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Early, did I do?

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I see that the kayaking is quite early in the
piece as well, that Dame Lisa might be an action
really early on.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Maddie Weshy should be an action as well. Early on
in the piece. There's a lot of excitement. The other way,
he said, hit the ground running. That reminds me of
my favorite tracks by a Texan hip hop guy are
called MC nine hundred foot Jesus, and one of the
lines in one of his tracks was we hit the
ground running with the flames at our feet, and that's
what I want to see, right. That's good.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
I will be.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I will be sprinting off to Spotify to listen to
your man, and I think that will be a very
natural end to our time in the chamber today.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Dissecting the sporting agenda.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
