Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talks. It'd be.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It's eleven minutes to a cynical clock style Warriors fullback
name for on the twenty one strong team for the tournament,
which is the Pacific Championship. This year opens up with
the game against some More on October the nineteenth at
Mount Smart Stadium. We've got some More, We've got Toonga,
and we've got New Zealand. We'll talk about that now
with Chance. Hey Chance, Hey mate, how's it going good
(00:36):
looking forward to the Championship. I don't know if you
guys are, though. After such a huge season with the Warriors,
you get a cup of tea in a sit down
and then you're back into complete hammering again at the
hands of the Salmons and the Toment's tough.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, no, it is, it is. It's gonna be a
tough competition. But representing your country, your nation and putting
it on that black jersey, it definitely means a lot.
So I know a lot of the boys will be
feeling the exact same way as I am.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Ready to get into camp and ripping. How good is it.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
That a guy like Karen for and has made himself
available all the experience that guy's got, I'd suggest all
the money that he's got, not that I'm within your
team and he's doing a job, because what's Shawn Johnson
will over again, isn't it you haven't got Jerome Hues.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah, it is, it is.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Karen brings a lot of experience over three hundred games,
as you know, and I'm pretty sure like over thirty
thirty tests for the Q So it's it's an enormous
amount of experience that we're going to be able to
call on during this pac Champs. And he's going to
be able to lead the boys around the park just
as good as anyone as well. So yeah, it's definitely
(01:48):
a big step for us having him in the in
the in the squad, and I'm looking forward to what
he brings all the time.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Is that money that you spoke about?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Interestingly, is it difficult for you to turn off your
warrior's head and turn on your keywi's head to change
what you're doing and how you think?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Nah, I would say everything's pretty similar, if I'm being honest.
It's not too much of a change though anything that
is different, As you're around different different players, different players
and different mates really, so that's probably were that's just
as exciting as stepping into the Warriors camp. But it's
(02:27):
probably a breath of fresh air. As you said, we
had our big season here here at the club and
I'm looking forward to taking all the learnings into this
New Zealand QBS camp.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
You've got a couple of guys come back from injury
that weren't around last year. It must be great to
see the likes Well, you've got them in your team,
Nelson us off our Solomony. You don't have to tackle
them yourself at him man nicought a few guys finding
the way back into the side. So catching up with old.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Mates again, Yeah, no, it is.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
There's all players that bring a lot to the team
and they've been massive for their teams at Clubland, so
I'm looking forward to seeing them put their black jersey
on and represent their nation just as good as any
other time that they have.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
It's a real shame chance that the Australians are not
involved in this. They've got the lines too, they're over
there playing against England. Does that take much from the
presence of the competition in sport? Does it detract from it.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Nah, I don't. I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
If you look at the squads that were announced for
Tonga and some more, their squads are just as good
as any other squad in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
They've got they got talent and flair all right through it.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
So that's it's it's gonna be an exciting and it's
going to be a tough competition. You know, Australia, like
you said, he'd never see participate in their Ashes Test,
and you know some More were the ones that are
knocked out England to move forward into that World Cup too,
So it's gonna be it's gonna be a tough competition,
and there's nothing taken away from Australia wanting to golf
(04:03):
and participate in the Ashes Test.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Ideally that'd be there because it's like you've got the NRL.
But as far as internationally go, this is the shop floor.
This is where you get to see the best of
the best. So it must be slightly irritating that they're
not going to be there. Not that you can control
that chance, but you'd expect more.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, yeah, no, not really. I think like I said,
the squads and Someone and Song are pretty top, top
quality and these talent all throughout those squads. I mean,
you got Pain representing some more and you've got Roger
Tory Vasaschek there as well. And then you look over
to Tongue and they've got Adam for No Blake, paul
(04:41):
A Lamdi just at the top of my top of
my head.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
He had a great season for Penrift.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
So they've got talent all three of their squads, premiership
winners and both teams and it's just going to be
a tough competition.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I tell you what their pack is scary, the Tongue
and pack. You've got Lequa Halasima and Demetric Valmonga in
there too, and those guys have had outstanding seasons. I
suppose you counter that with with Aaron Clark, don't you.
There's some really good Into Warriors clashes going on in
the series, Yeah, there is.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
And really proud of those two young boys getting picked
in their national team. I know both of them would
have had options for a lot of camps and I'm
looking forward to seeing what they can do on the
international stage. They both had great seasons with our club,
as you said, and that's going to be another step
(05:31):
up and I'm sure they're going to enjoy being in
camping representing their nation proudly.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And primarily for yourself. Here you said those young boys.
I mean, I remember interviewing EU when you were a boy,
but not anymore. You're a man now, you're a dad
and everything else. What's your position in the side. How
much do you have to carry from a leadership point
of view.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah, it's sort of the same thing I was saying
at the start. You don't really need to bring anything different,
just yourself and you're there for a reason.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
So for me, it's about.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Making sure that I bring those same traits and qualities
and values that I bring.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
At the Warriors week and week out, and following through
of the actions.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Actions speak louder than words, and I know everyon and
camp's going to be making sure that.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
They are following through with their actions. So that's all
I have to bring.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
I don't have to be anything different, as my coach
would say at the club, you just have to be
yourself and that's what I aim to be.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
And that's what we'd love to see. Really looking forward
to the series and see what you can do. And
I've just gone through the tongue and team again chance,
So I forgot about Jason tom Malolo, about a guy
that you know reasonably well, Asa cutor too, how really
is in that side? This is damn right, scary this,
this is not right.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Yeah, they, like I said, Australians choosing to play in
a different game this year hasn't taken away anything from
the pack champs.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
If anything, it's.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Given an opportunity for both Proud Nations and Someone. So
I'm to be able to put their best squads together
and show the international stage what they're made of. So
I know myself and the rest of the boys are
raring to go and looking forward to getting into camp
and ropping in. So yeah, it's really exciting for us
(07:15):
being able to go up against such a such a
pack and such a team as Someone and Tonga.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Change one last thing before you go, I'm sorry butt.
How good was Sunday night? What an advertise for the
game of rugby league? My jewels still on the ground
of what we saw.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Amazing it was.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
It was a really good game off for the you know,
props props to the Brisbane Broncos. They if anything, they
showed you you need to be the best team during
the most important part of the season and that was
finals and I thought throughout the whole final series they
were in the best team. So yeah, congratulations to them,
and yeah it was unfortunate for the Storm but looking
(07:54):
forward to to get in the Warriors into that stage
one day soon and bringing history back to the back
to the country.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Well well yeah your juniors for on a bit of
a phrase, your state champion Kean's the New South Wales
cup kids. They did really well as well, understandably because
their team packed with first graders. But there was another
reason to celebrate for the club.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, no, it was I walked past the trophies today
at the club and although or was at a different.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Grade, that that's history for our club.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Our seventeens have gone back to back premiers as well,
and the something building nicely here at the New Zealand
Warriors so and where we trust and he's got a
good team around him and Cameron George and Andrew McFadden
so as well as the rest of our coaching staff
and it's exciting times and super proud of the New
(08:46):
South Wales Cupboys bringing history to the club. Then yes,
it's it's going to be our tune it's going to
be Our tune.
