Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Darcy Waldergrave
from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Good evening, Welcome, this is Sports Talk. I'm Darcy Waldgrave.
Thanks very much for your time, your company. I won't
say you love because I don't know if I've got
that yet. We're talking at motorsport tonight, Makay. Where the
sun shines, said the petrol head. Not that there's any
sun shining on Liam Lawson right now. In fact, he's

(00:53):
had a horrible time of it. His introduction to a
full time Formula One drive has been fraught, to say
the least. It is now around Liam's future and not
looking great. Possibly as early as Friday morning. He's maybe Thursday,
maaybe tomorrow is going to get drop kicked from red
Bull to where we don't know. Bob McMurray, thirty year

(01:15):
veteran of Formula One in the mclarantine, joins us shortly
to discuss the rumor, the fire and the smoke. Then
we'll take your calls. You're just entirely fair on Liam Lawson.
You're motorsport peg. You'll go yeah, no, probably not if
you're not a motorsport pig. But you're a casual observer,

(01:35):
kicking the teeth of kicking the slap. How do you
feel about this? I mean, this is top competition, isn't
it top level competitive sports. It's going to happen. We'll
talk about that later in the piece, and toward the
end of the program at Cameron George makes an appearance.
He's the CEO of the one New Zealand Warriors. Dylan
Walker has been set free as of this morning. It's

(01:59):
immediate was picked to play yesterday. That is not going
to happen.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Why.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
We'll find out when Cameron George joins us later in
the peace. But before any of that, how about a
whole bunch of this sport today and in Sports today
and Super Rugby Pacific crusader James O'Connor has been given
the keys at pivot for this weekend's Moinea Pussy figure
bon fight coach Robin Penn's penny as rewarding form and

(02:28):
covering armptions in case of well, you know.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Rugby spoken regularly around his talent and his growth in
the very short space of time. We just want to
make sure we manage that. But also if something untoward
was to happen that we've got players that have had
time in the saddleite.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
And only took a touch over three decades, but the
waiting paid off. Wellington bat Nick Kelly now on his persistence.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
As you get a little bit older and you know,
you start to realize that maybe those goals are getting
a little bit unreachable. But for me, I never really
lost a dream and just kept my head down and
obviously the last few years for Wellington have been pretty
successful for me.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Tim and Finn are expected to carry on there, shoot first,
ask questions later approach to opening the batting for a
New Zealand the T twenty eyes Tim and Finn, I
Cipher and Alan. They like to crunch it from the
outset and Black Cat's batting coach Luke Candudo wrong he
he sees no reason to attach brakes to their acceleration.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
Siphon Finn have got this natural ability to go out
and I've had sexes from ball one and have sort
of ultra aggressive mentality, So it's always nice when you
see that come off.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And whis CEO camp George isn't overly concerned with the
immediate loss of Don Walker, the last remaining Balld brother
was released into the Australian Wilderness today.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
Contractually they might have been with us longer than just
this year, and that was the case, it would have
been a different consideration. But because he was off at
the end of this year, you know, it really didn't
matter to us because we couldn't have done any trade
at this time of year with the thought.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
And here the full interview. Worth, Cameron George are later
in the show.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
And that's Sport today.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Bob McMurray joins us now. Thirty years in McLaren you
would have seen plenty of this action before, the skullduggery,
the backstabbing, the knee jerk reactions. Formula one A hasn't changed,
has it, Bob good A.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
No, it hasn't changed, Ducy. But look, first of all, DS,
I've got to say, normally it's really difficult to comment
on speculation, and we shouldn't comment on speculation because we're
just speculating on speculation and that's all it is. At
the moment in that Red Bull that made no official
announcement whatsoever, and the announcement i'm sure will be coming

(04:44):
because too many people have said too much about it
and it's all through the Dutch newspapers. It's all through
the telegraph and stuff like that, and it's strangers come
from Holland. Nonetheless, it is let's say, I'll take it
with smoke and fire at the moment, no smoke without fire.
And it looks like so many places have got hold
of this information that Liam is going to be dropped

(05:05):
from the main t That is difficult not to worry
on his behalf. And you know, I've got to say again,
first up, Darcy, he is not a bad driver. He's
a very fast driver. He's a very accomplished driver, and
he's proven that he doesn't have to prove anymore. It
just needs to get together with this damn car that
he's trying to drive at the moment you.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Say, damn carm. We'll talk about that shortly because that's
a lot to do with it. And this is the
common denominator with maxwst Steppen's teammates over the years, that
damn car. But it's been leaked to the Dutch media,
and I'm told that reboard a tendency to leak stuff
to the Dutch media if they do so. I don't
know what traction is in that comment, but it may

(05:47):
very well be the truth.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
It may well be, but it's speculating. As I sit here,
as we talk during the day, I think it is
still speculation. But you've got to treat speculation with the
amount of worth that you think in it, and I
obviously I think there is a certain amount of Yeah,
what's coming is what's happening. Unfortunately for Lean.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Look, he's had a rotten ale run of it. And
people say start making excuses Darcy because he's got to
the top and he's failing. But the excuses in this
case Bob McMurray, are extremely relevant. What he's facding is
three races so far, the two GP and a sprint race.
I'd say anybody facing that would struggle, regardless of the vehicle.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Yeah, I'd agree with that. I in all my years
in and around the sport, Darcy, and even after I
returned from Formula One, I have never ever seen a
driver being dropped after two Grand Prix and one sprint race.
Three qualifying sessions. Never happened in my experience. I was
there when Andrettie was dropped for McLaren and all the

(06:58):
Red Bull drivers were dropped half a season. Well, they
had a chance. It doesn't seem like Liam Lawson is
being given once again, go back to speculation, but it
doesn't seem that Liam Lawson has been given any more
time in that car than he's had already, which is
as much a reflection on the Red Bull engineers, the

(07:20):
Red Bull management and the Red Bull set up for
bringing young drivers on. It's as much a reflection on them,
in fact, more than it is on Liam. So you know,
nobody's going out of this blameless. And if Red Bulls
think they're going to say, oh we got rid of
him because he was no good, absolute rubbish, he is good.
He is a good driver and he's proven that. As

(07:40):
I said before.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Taking firm aim with the biggest gun, they've got at
their feet yet again, as I said, the common denominator
is the car, therefore the team. So instead of addressing
that they just chuning through drivers. Is going to be
the fifth one? Now will they not learn? What are
they hoping for? What are they waiting for? Bob?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Well, they're hoping for Max for stapping two point zero
and that ain't going to happen. They come along once
in a generation, you know, they come along with a
Schumacher and then a Hamilton. Then of a Stappen, you
don't they just don't wind them up from before the
way to have treated this in the first place, and
hindsight is great. But he's not lost yet, is what

(08:22):
Mercedes did with Antonelli. Gave him eleven thousand kilometers approximately
of testing time in that car. Liam Lawson's had six
Grand Prix whatever it was last year in a Visa
cash app He's had a couple of a good few
simulated sessions. He's had maybe one and a half days
at Bahrain when half the time the car was in

(08:44):
the garage. He's had a practice or a practice session
that was disrupted in Australia, a place he hadn't driven
before at He's had various systems put on the car,
taken off the car, put on the car. It's a
different car. Has been almost a different car every time
he's gone out. He's had the weather issues in Australia.

(09:06):
What good knows, what has the guy got to do
to get a clean race? Just a clean race is
all he needs, but he needs three or four or
five of them. So yeah, that's that's where I'd blame
the red ball management completely.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Even Max Vers Steppen has come out and said this
car is hard to drive, and it's designed for him.
He gets the struggle that Liam's got. So the question
is Yuki Sonoda is he the answer? The Racing Balls
car that he's in, Yeah, is performing well, easier to drive,
so they switch them. At worse, Lim gets drop kicked altogether,

(09:42):
but he switches back to Racing Ball and Yuki goes
to the red Ball at his home track at Suzuka,
where Liam has raced very well as well. Is that
going to makesually solve anything or answer any questions?

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Bob, Well, that's the question to be answered, isn't it.
Is he going to be better or worse or the same.
He comes in, incidentally, with a huge amount of money
that apparently Honda have put up to get him into
the into this situation to drive at Suzuka. They've come
up with a seven figure amounts or seven figures to me,

(10:13):
there's an awful lot of zeros and not too many
numbers at the moment at the front, so they've paid
a huge amount of money to get him into the car,
which once again doesn't vote well for Liam Lawson. I
don't know that he's going to be any better. I
don't know that he's got any more experience than Liam
unless they are doing what I just said, and they've
got him in the simulator in England just running through

(10:35):
every possible scenario with him, which if they have decided
to make this move they are undoubtedly doing because they've
got to bring him up to speed, they probably would
have learned their lesson with Liam not having enough experience
to get into that car. The problem that then comes
up with Liam is if he the best scenario out

(10:58):
of all this, providing he's not dropped, that's the very
best scenario. The second scenario is that he goes to
racing bulls of Sonoda and he gets comfortable back in
that car and he starts racing fast and beats Sonoda.
That's that's that's the first thing. And then by getting
comfortable in the car, he can get more confidence racing
and that sort of stuff. By doing that, he probably

(11:20):
won't go back to RB because they have never re
employed a driver, so he's if this happens, then he's
probably out of it completely. But if that happens, with
getting more and more experience in the Visa cash chapel,
he's putting himself on the on the showcase again for
any other teams that might want to pick up a
driver that he's proving himself to be quite good. He's

(11:41):
got to do that business, of course. But if the
nest case scenario is that he is out of the
team completely, because Helmut Marco has been talking to Flaboratory
and Oliver Oaks of the Alping team asking about the
availability of colo Pinto, Franco colo Pinto, they want to
put him into the junior team. I'm not sure that

(12:02):
will happen because I think Briratory wants to keep hold
of him. All sorts of scenarios that potentially if this
comes off, potentially you're going to be faced with lim
So how it's going to work out, I'm not sure.
I honestly don't know. I don't think any of us
known until Red Bull actually make some sort of announcement.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
One thing you do know is Liam Lawson. You've tracked
him right the way through, from the early days right
through tight a racing model was called. Then mentally, how
is this going to be affecting Liam Lawson? Is the
mental desintegration going on here? Do you think that he's
strong enough to get through this regardless of what happens.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
I don't think so. I mean, it's going to affect anybody,
you know, any one of us trying to put ourselves
in a scenario where you've got a job and you've
been dumped out of that job that you've been headhunted
for after just a weekend, you know, work, That is
not a good scenario for anybody. But knowing Liam and
being fair to Liam, every single interview he's given since

(13:04):
he got in that car, so it was saying, basically,
I've got to do better. I don't have time. You know,
I need time, but I don't have time. It's not
good enough. I've got to do better. So he's not
shying away from it. He's admitting the fact that you know,
he can see the riding on the wall as well
as any one of us. He's in the middle of it,
and he's been given the word I'm sure by the
good doctor Helmet Marco. So the mere fact that he's

(13:27):
still there is his testament to his strength, and he
hasn't collapsed in a heap of tears in the corner.
He is still driving as hard as he possibly can
and talking to the engineers as best he can and
all that sort of stuff. So he is a resilient person.
He's very resilient as a driver. He had to be
to hang about Red Bull all those years when they

(13:48):
kept him on and said, yeah, yeah, you're going to
get a drive. You're going to get a drive. Any
driver could have given up at any point during that,
but he I believe he's got the capability to do it.
And I believe, as Max of Staffan has already said,
if Liam went down to the junior team, he would
he would excel, he would be faster because the cars

(14:10):
are better. And I think Liam might actually think to himself, Okay,
you know this hasn't worked for me. I've got to
do something better. I've got to work harder. And if
I drop down a league into the into the junior team,
that's okay, that's okay. I just got to get my
head down and get on with it again.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Forget the refs call. You make a call. Sports Talk
on your home of Sports, His Talks.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
That's Bob McMurray thirty years and McLaren hugely experienced in
the vagaries of Formula One and the paddock of what
goes on behind the scenes. And it's his thoughts on
Liam Lawson. Look, if he drops down a team, at
least there'll still being Formula One. The worst thing can
happen to Liam Lawson is a red Ball go you
know what, We've made a huge mistake. There's no room

(14:59):
for you at the end and drop him completely our
dad would be cataclysmic. That won't happen. I don't think
it will happen, But I don't know how Red Bull operate.
I don't know if anybody does, including them, what's likely
they will move to Yuki Sonoda at his home track
at Suzuka. It makes me ill to say this, So

(15:21):
you look after the wants of Honda, give him a roll,
see how he goes and put Liam Lawson down into
racing balls, which seems to be a stable car. Straplight
on that Hajas down there, who's quite the driver. Maybe
because Yuki Snowder does leave at the end of the year.

(15:43):
The whole year is Liam and Hajat fighting each other
to see who gets that secondary seat. It might not
be secondary though well next versteppan last not saying he's
going to get kicked out, but he might up high
tailored as well. Oh dear, so much chaos.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
This is just like a TV show Drive to survive,
I swear, take your callse Now, is this too reactionary?

Speaker 2 (16:12):
A couple of poor results, granted they have been very
poor results, Well, there hasn't folded it into the barrier. Okay,
that will be the worst case scenario. This is too
reactionary from red Bull, no chance. A number of factors
around why Lim hasn't done so well yet it looks

(16:36):
like he's going to be ejected. Very knee jerk, do
you believe so? Very knee jerk? But look, is this
actually the best thing that can happen to Liam Lawson?

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Eight hundred eighty ten eighty. I don't particularly like to
say it because you want to see him in the
top team, but if they get rid of to racing bulls,
it probably is the best thing that can happen to
him at this stage. If he has to get in
the sea from now, I don't wan think about that.
Oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty. How reactionary is this?

(17:10):
I mean, this is the brutal world of Formula one.
Possibly is this the best that it can happen to
Liam Lawson? And have you seen a pixelrom her in
the media smiling. He's being absolutely flooded. Every pick you
see it means miserable. He's being hammered globally. Man, you
need some mental strength to get through this, obey, He's

(17:33):
got it as a young man. Shoes one hundred eighty
ten eighty up next two reactionary. It's a free call number.

I'll keep you up to date the cricket as well,

What was it the fourth ball of his first over,
Just watching the replay of it now.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
And he's got a great big edge and it was
well snaffled at first slip, leaning across towards second slip.
Well done, Duffy. So there you go. Nahwas has gone.

Speaker 8 (20:00):
We're even more competitive than yesterday's sprint. We're able to
overtake cars and move forward. It's just we tried something
with set up to learn something today. It was quite
a big quite a big step and unfortunately this didn't work.
So a lot to learn from this weekend, a lot
for me personally to to get on top of as well.

(20:20):
It's just been extremely tough.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
It's Liam a laws in there all over the news
and it really is testament to the spread of Formula one.
Go anywhere in the world, look on the sport columns.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
This is it.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
It's all about Liam Lawson being possibly ejected for Yuki Sonoda.
Too tough. This is too tough. I've had a text
in it saying, like I asked Bob whether it was
a blessing in disguise, Well, essentially this is a blessing.
I expect that knowing Lim not that I know him

(21:03):
as a best friend, he wouldn't invite me around to
play the guitar and he noodles. He would see this
as a slight. He will not enjoy this. And the
racer and him, the racer and anybody said no, no,
give me that car. I'm gonna throttle it neck, I'm
gonna wring its neck out there on the track, and
I'm gonna show you what I can do. Just give

(21:24):
me more than a couple of racers on a track
I know, and not on the rain. In some time,
maybe beforehand, get some free practicing. It's been tough for him,
but it is a blessing in the fact that it's
a more stable car, the racing ball car, and it'd
be a better chance for Liam to establish himself and

(21:45):
maybe bring some confidence back, because it would be shot
right now, as I said, if one driver in him
will go no, no, no no. I am not getting beaten
by this car. I suppose it puts into focus what
Sogioperis didn't achieve last year in this car. A text
line there nine nine two that is zebbiz beast and

(22:06):
a text charge does apply. And he was called eight
hundred eighty ten eighty free phone number nationwide. Let's run
through some texts for you. Now, this is a bit mean.
It's Jaffer again. It's mister Happy. He was calling yesterday,
Lawson choked. He was smiling up North playing golf with

(22:26):
his outlaws and in laws over Christmas when he should
have been in the simulator pedal to the metal. Well,
so you say, but I don't know about choked. He
was presented with an extraordinarily difficult proposition, didn't have it,
didn't stick it into the fence. Very important Leam was

(22:47):
forced by a Red Bull to do no racing for
a year. This halted his progress racing as a momentum sport.
Mat never stopped racing when he was young, and so
none of the other top drivers either until they got older.
We shouldn't forget how unfair and ruthless Red Bull were
with Brendan Hartley. It's torro rosso back then and now
he's a multi world champion in we C and it's

(23:10):
one of the mine a couple of times as well.
It's an interesting point that Bill makes because he had
to sit in the background and twiddle his thumbs as
a reserve driver and basically he didn't get any seat
time and not great for Adry. Guy has been driving
constnaces to with five years old. Now The Texas says,

(23:30):
I can't wait to see Limb back at the v
Cup show how good he is, and a middle finger
to Sonoda, Oh that's not very charitable. Why would red
Bull writes another not dress a racing Bull's car to
look like a Red Bull car because only Max can
drive the thing that's from Dave. Yeah, and the points around.

(23:50):
A lot of people have asked what they're both racing cars?
What is the difference. You can do so much with
an engineer. You can do so much with your your wing.
You can do so much with your your tired choices
and your tactics. He can do so much with that.
But what you can't do to the basic car itself
is change how it's been designed to suit the wants

(24:13):
of Max Verstappen. Weight distribution in the car there's one example.
There's are a number of things that Max like that
suits his. They call it pointed so he can turn
in sharp quickly and the bat normally slides out on
most regular drivers, but not him. He's got the balance

(24:34):
of it perfectly. The weight is perfect. They've designed it,
and why because he's won four consecutive World Drivers champions
Chips and they're going to keep doing it because they
want to keep winning. But I think, as they say,
cutting off their nose despite their face, Darcy, the guy
has a contract in place. Surely I've followed red ball

(24:55):
for years. If this is true red ball, and if
one can get stuffed Dave, if you've been following it
for years, you know this is how they behave it
is absolutely brew Dean says them's the result today is
perfect for his future. Short replace him with someone else

(25:15):
who can't drive. The setup for their number one driver
at racing balls is great. Our biddy goes close to
top ten in Japan, if not better yet it could
be an essence throwing Sonoda under the bus Honda A
demanding we pay this money. We want to see him
in there. You should have put him in the first place.
He's been getting around on the racing balls like OK, fine,

(25:37):
here you go. You go home. You have this car,
which unless you're Max, and we'll see how well you
deal with it. And see this coming back to bite
me in the throat come next Sunday evening Sunday week
Sinoda turning up and doing something extraordinary. Red Bulls should

(25:58):
not have given him an undrivable slow dog, Darcy, We're
about to see what the villas Red Bulls stand four.
That is from Craig.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Darcy.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
All Red Ball has done is used our country's ninety
day employment clause. Shouldn't laugh. This is tough seven thirty
five Buckstar nineteen one through nearly four overs. Harris's on
Tina Mayor is on Kui. Cameron George is just around

(26:33):
the corner. What happened to the ball brother? What are
you doing?

Speaker 3 (26:36):
You let him go?

Speaker 2 (26:37):
You released them flee We'll find out more. Cameron George
up next here on Newstalk's heb.

Speaker 8 (26:43):
Urban give Me Drunk?

Speaker 7 (26:46):
He stop until by jumping star here.

Speaker 8 (26:51):
I think I'm out of.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Seven thirty nine sports talk on that Newstalks AIRB four overs,
four deliveries done twenty three for one after being inserted
when they lost the toss. I'll keep you up to
date with that, as I'm sure Marcus Slash will sharing
his award winning broadcast from eight through till midnight. Marcus

(27:19):
Slash Nights over the Here and now we're going to
the Big Cheese La Grand Fromage at the One in
New Zealand. At Warriors Cameron George, Good Evening, Cameron Good Evening,
dares he big news today around the fact that Dilan
Walker is no longer part of the Warriors. I suppose,
first of is this immediate? Does he even play this weekend?

Speaker 7 (27:40):
No, he doesn't play this weekend. You seek a bye
to the team and staff this morning, and we signed
a release with immediate effects.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
So he's moving on.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
And going back to Ossie to be these kids and family,
which is pretty important to him.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
And this is the reason behind the set compassionate Grounds
family Reasons, which is fairly standard's based purely on that year. Cameron.

Speaker 7 (28:06):
Yeah, absolutely, you know it's one of our really strong
understandings of our players and their families are really important
to them and what makes them chicken. Dylan's family left
New Zealand about eight months ago, and you know he's
stuck it out as long as he could, but it

(28:27):
just was getting to the point in recent months, particularly
recent weeks, where it just was too hard for him.
And you know, so we had a good chat after
the game on the weekend and look he's been able
to and us able to come to a conclusion in
his best interest that yeah, he moved back with his

(28:47):
kids and family.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
So you did see it coming. This has been in
the pipeline for a while, Cameron.

Speaker 7 (28:55):
Oh, look, it's just one of those things that you
notice and you're you're keeping constant communication about. But yeah,
it's just got harder and harder over time. So you
know he's tried his absolute best, and yeah, in recent
weeks i'd say she's definitely got too hard. So you know,
as a club, we take that very seriously and we

(29:17):
consider each you know, each of these matters on their
merits and in his best interest, it was the right
thing to do.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
So what happens now as far as a replacement, you're
out there in the market looking you've been looking for
a bit because you've kind of felt that this is coming. Well,
what's happening in that space?

Speaker 7 (29:32):
Can we Well, I think we need to look inside
before we look outside, Darcy. We're a development club and
we've got some tremendous kids coming through that webby and
Andrew McFadden extremely excited about their futures and this presents opportunities.
And you know, we've got four teams playing now and
we're developing players left, right and center, and we're seeing

(29:53):
them starting to sprout and come into the grade and
into the NRL. So let's have a look at our
own backyard first, and that's what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
As far as him leaving, does that open up decent
space in the South, Harry cap for you.

Speaker 7 (30:09):
Look, obviously, any player leaving under circumstances all have various outcomes,
and we're in a good space with our salary cap
and it's well managed and this you know, this certainly
adds value. So but that's irrelevant. You know, we're now
focused on our development and pathways and the kids coming through,

(30:29):
and you know we've going to weigh all that up
as we as we explore what we do moving forward.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Is off to parent matter? Do you care where is gone?
Do that even matter? No?

Speaker 7 (30:41):
Not really, it's look, I only focus on what's best
for the person, and you know where they end up
and under what circumstances. Sometimes it's different. You do matter
because contractually they might have been with as longer than
just this year, and that was the case, it would
have been a different a different consideration. But because he

(31:05):
was off at the end of this year, you know,
it really didn't matter to us because we couldn't have
done any trade at this time of year. I wouldn't
have thought.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
This is all about family. We get that he's going.
It's a great thing to release the guy who's been
a wonderful addition to the Warrior since he's been around.
Great character and utility player that can play everywhere. But
this is an account that has been not complained about, but
raised quite a lot do you think it's time. The
NRL looked like having a trade window, so in a

(31:35):
lot of circumstance we don't have players coming and going,
although this is a different case.

Speaker 7 (31:41):
Yeah, it's hard to put them all on, you know,
the same level when you consider different circumstances. Darcy. It's
a fair point you make, and I think it's closer
than than not those sort of thoughts at the NRL. However,
you know, it's so difficult because you know, they're all

(32:03):
humans first and foremost different things happen at different times
that are out of your control. You know, I had
someone and say to me today you know what, you
just say no, and you know that was your son.
I bet you you wouldn't appreciate their employer not taking
that into account. And we've had just as many players
come back to New Zealand on compassionate grounds. So it's

(32:27):
hard to, you know, to group them all into one.
I think if a player was just wanting to leave
for the sake of leaving, you know, and you probably
see that a lot in Australia more so than here,
because they can leave one club and go to another
club without moving moving homes, just travel a different direction.
So you know, I think in those circumstances, yeah, there

(32:50):
should be a trade window. But I don't know how
you control the compassionate ones, and that's something we never
want to put a roadblock in front of. At the
end of the day, they are humans and you know
we understand the stress and the and the problems they
can go through by living in another country. So we've
got to work individually with those.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
So is it being actively discussed around the NRL, this
idea of opening a trade window you touched on it before.

Speaker 7 (33:20):
No, I don't think it's been actively discussed, but I
know there's been different forms of trade windows, to draft
systems that all sorts of things been discussed. And I
know the NRL, you know, there's one thing about and
they always look to evolve, and you know it might
be something that down the track they look at.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
And finally, Camon George, always good for you to come
on the program. I'm glad that you do. Is great
for us. Roger two of Vasas shiit Now that's a
punch and the kidneys for the club, isn't it.

Speaker 7 (33:50):
Yeah, But again you know we've got rock a Berry
coming in. This is what it's all about. You know,
you want to stay as fit as long as you can,
but you build up the depth so you can, you know,
you can combat these challenges such as this. Roger's a
huge loss, don't get me wrong, but equally as excited
for Rocker to get his opportunity to come back, and
he's been killing it in the last few weeks in

(34:12):
New South Wales Cup. Roger will go away, he'll repair well,
He'll you know, he'll certainly rehab well and quickly and
he'll be back putting pressure on the team as well.
And Dallan's not far away. So it's sad. It's hard
to take, but it is footy. You know, they do
play this contact sport and you know you've got to

(34:32):
wear the injuries as they come. But that's why we
build up the depth and we're very happy with what
we've got underpinning our NURL squad for these reasons.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
No need DMO.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
We've got the breakdowns on Sports Talk col.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
News Talk.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
The CEO of the Warriors, Cameron George there talking about
the release of Dylan Walker. I'm not doubting it, that
is the case. I've got nothing to base that doubt on.
But the Sinnec and me when I hear compassionate grounds.
When I hear family reasons, I immediately WinCE and think

(35:14):
there's something else. Maybe I'm a naturally suspicious character. And
I've met Dylan a couple of times. Seems like a
stand up guy. I've met Cameron Georgia heap of times.
They stand up guys. But is this something about when
they say family reasons or compassionate grounds you instantly go, oh,

(35:34):
I don't like the sound of that. When did you
last hear he's leaving us contract because he's over this
place and wants to get paid more somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
You never hear that, dear.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
It's always another reason that can be palmed off, that
can be swatted to one side so you don't raise
your eyebrows and argue about it. And long term on
this said show just how incredibly stupid and pointless contracts are,
especially in the NRL. They don't mean anything. Again, I'm

(36:11):
not saying anyone's lying, but I haven't heard anyone say
he wants to go because he hates Auckland and he
reckons he can get more somewhere else. You're not going
because I think the coaches need it he never that's
always the same excuse, has the same reason. When you
keep hearing it over and over and over again, you're
here we go again. What does that say about me?

(36:37):
At my trust levels? Not ideal? What'sn't the best? I
think what I'd probably rather hear from CEOs as a
standard line when a player leaves or goes X doesn't
want to be here anymore, We're letting him go. There,
you go, draw whatever you want out of that. But

(37:01):
the whole emotive side of it, which is it's very
powerful because people are very emotive around their family. I
get it. If I was away from my kit for
an extended period of time, i'd freak too, But I
wouldn't sign a contract that ensured I was going to
be away from them for that amount of time either, Right.

(37:21):
I think the line X player no longer wants to
be part of this club. We've released him. Bang easy
got a thought on that No. One hundred eighty ten eighty,
but they lost another one got behind a hear has
managed to get an edge on to his thigh pad.
It's balloon that has gone Buckstar twenty three for the

(37:44):
loss of seven through six over someone on two usman
on one. I'll tell you what Duffy's putting in. Some
pretty nari deliveries as well, some bity deliveries.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Good to watch.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
It's ten to eight. I'm right about these contracts, right,
I'm trying to be mean or cruel or underwhelming. But
what did it standard? He doesn't want to be here? Bye?
There should be that in the contract. There should be
a clause that says, if you don't want to be
here anymore, let us know and you can off. Oh,

(38:19):
by the way, we'll have about money back.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
But you know.
