Pablo Materira, Mike go himself held, I made a short,
Gonzado got Sea scores the half back Dot's down Argentina
twenty four point thirteen and a Kicktoricum.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah, the decisive try and yesterday's history making first of
a home win for Argentina over the All Blacks by
twenty nine points to twenty three. A great pleasure to
welcome back into the show, Argentine rugby journalist out of ESPN,
Zuka Conti, Zuka, great to chat to you.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
We spoke to you before the game.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
It seems like whenever you join us, the Pumas make
more history. How was that feeling as you watched Argentina
beat the All Blacks on home soil for the very
first time yesterday?

Speaker 6 (02:56):
I made it their pleasure Today is for me because
it was an amazing match here in Argentina. Great nighty
here for our local fans. Finally, finally the Pumas beat
the All Blacks here in home soil. So we are
delighted with the performance of the team, with the performance

(03:21):
of the fans so in the in the stands.

Speaker 7 (03:24):
It was like a perfect and a dream.

Speaker 6 (03:26):
Match for all the rugby here in Argentina and hopefully
hopefully a.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
Message for the old blocks for the spring books.

Speaker 6 (03:37):
This is the last rugby championship, so and I think
that the Argentinian rugby always speak on the field, and
I hope yesterday it was a strong measure to the
spring box, to the All Blacks not to cut off
the tournament and so still playing after twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Absolutely, I think it's a very very strong message in
one which we all hope has heard. What were the
main reasons in your eyes for the when.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
I think that first of all, the contact, the physical battle,
when Argentina it's good in that area, then the game
expanded differently. I think that in Paramatta was they are
the team in christ to Sow and yesterday I think

(04:30):
that we have a mixed situation. For one side Argentina
Argentina being effective with the with his game, and for
the other side, I saw erratic oil Blacks that I
never in my life was really not always with the

(04:52):
with the kick through taking points. I think that in
the forty mis tackles, it's something that we never sat
in in the oil Blacks in I think, for example,
in the last twenty twenty thirty years, so probably Robertson
and the coaching stuff stuff has lots of work trying

(05:17):
to understand why the team can make a good performance
and then a performance that I think it's below the
standards of Geolux.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
In ded and Date.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
When we spoke before the game, you mentioned Pablo Materia
as an important player iteen Caries sitting up the final try,
huge physical prisons.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
How big a player is he for you?

Speaker 6 (05:44):
I yesterday I said, for me, Paul Materia is one
of the three most important players in rugby history of Argentina,
and probably he's going He's in the path to be
the most important rugby player in Argentina. The way he
played the game, the way he speak and he it's

(06:07):
inspirational for all the kids.

Speaker 7 (06:10):
It's amazing.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
I told you yesterday that I talked with Pablo and
he told me it was tomorrow is going to be
the best game of our season, and he was encouraged
for going to that victory. And after the match, I
told Paulo, you know that, you know that you told

(06:33):
me that. He said, sometimes they play the game is
played before and this one, this one was like that.
I think that it was something in the year in
the air that was different.

Speaker 7 (06:50):
And it was a great and amazing night.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Indeed, who were the other most impressive players yesterday in
the Argentina side.

Speaker 6 (07:00):
I think that Tocobaris now is in his position one
of the best players in the world. A great match
of about Tadeli, Matteo Carridas and jocuros Maliat back three
and I want to speak especially about Santiago Garridas. It

(07:20):
was a special match for him because here in Argentina
his critical criticized a lot because of his of him
playing as a number ten. And yesterday he has to
came into the game replacing Thomas Albornoz, that is playing

(07:41):
his best rugby ever and he get in the game.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
He played a great performance.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
He used well the hands, well, the mental decisions, well,
the strategy, the kicking game. I think that it was
a great performance and deserved performance for Santillo Garridas.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Argentina have now won three of the last eight tast
matches against the old one in Parameda that won twice
here in New Zealand. Now that one there in Argentina
as well. A Zuka is the All Blacks aura of
invincibility disappearing now.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
No, no, no, But I don't know. I think that
we have to be humble here in Argentina to speak
about the All Blacks, because we admired the All Blacks
all our history. We we grew up watching New Zealand
rugby that Super Rugby season, so I remember being a

(08:43):
kid and watching lot more. My favorite players always are
from New Zealand. Andrew Martens, Dan Carter Now I had
good relationship with the body of Barrett Denil McKenzie. I
used to play as number ten, so I named that
that kind of players. But I think that now it's

(09:06):
it's a different moment. Argentina, it's growing. That's that's true
and for me that that's the important thing. The Argentina
ten fifteen years ago was out of your rugby championship.
We used to play the oil Blacks once in ten years,

(09:27):
so for us it was kind of impossible beating the
oil Blacks because we we we do we don't play
against them. So I think that this is the best
example of if you put the the the teams in
the in the way, in the good position you give

(09:48):
you give me, give them tools to play and grow
the the game grows. I think that New Zealand make
a bad decision when they cut off the South African
teams of Super Rugby. I miss that Super Rugby of
South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Hopefully Howard is two

(10:12):
but of that frie Nations, of course, I think that
it's a bad decision from spring Box and New Zealand now.

Speaker 7 (10:21):
Putting down the rugby Championship.

Speaker 6 (10:23):
I think that the best decision was is not to
put that the rugby Championship. It's about adding more teams
FISHI Japan. We have to work all together to make
the rugby bigger. And the only way that the rugby
get bigger is most teams battling in the same level,

(10:45):
no meeting each other between four years in the World Cup,
and of course the difference is going to be fifty
zero because the lower teams they can improve a lot
in the four years if they can't play. I think
that argent teenage a good example for that. I would
respect the All Blacks and it's always my favorite team

(11:07):
I admire. I'm so happy when the All Blacks come
here to Argentina, the rugby of Argentina. It's like a
weeks of festival, having New Zealand here, eating barbecues, going
to the stadiums. It's amazing. So hopefully it's not the
last time.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
I totally agree. I totally agree with you. We all
have to grow together. The poemers will now hit to
Australia for two tasts. How confident do you feel about
their ability to win one or even both of those matches.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
I'm confident. It's going to be hard because Australia. I
think that it's growing and growing game after the game,
so it's going to be tough.

Speaker 7 (11:51):
But I think that.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
In the against the Oil Blacks and South Africa, we
are the underdogs teams. Now I think that it's fifty
to fifty against Australia, so it's going to be important
for the team.

Speaker 7 (12:08):
First of all, adapt to play without.

Speaker 6 (12:12):
Thomas Albornos because he's injured in his hand and he's
not going to be with a squad in this tour.
And then it's like a fifty to fifty game if Argentina,
and again if Argentina is good in the in the
physical battle, I think that we have now the volume

(12:33):
on the game to damage any team in the world.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
I thought of you immediately after the final. We're s yesterday, Zuki.
You've waited a long time for this. No more waiting,
no more whiting. Congratulations to the Permas, thanks as always
for your time. I look forward to catching up again soon.

Speaker 7 (12:51):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
I'm always be here to talk about rugby, about to
talk about the Pumas. It was a sorry night for
all all the rugby fans here in our country and
we are enjoying, but we are of you are thinking
about the next couple of weeks that are going to
be important to solid that to grow of the of

(13:16):
the team that stepped forward.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
Okay they have to be they have to do that
in Australia. Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Great, No, thank you very much mate. What a what
a great bloke. Zuka Conti there out of ESPN and
Argentina seven. I want to talk the all blacks with you.
Lines are open, Oh eight hundred and eighty ten eighty,
just begin just before we put some calls on the air.
There has been plenty of herbole over the last day
and a half, a lot of raised voices, a lot

(13:43):
of knee jerk reaction, a lot of overreaction.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Don't get me wrong.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
We are quite entitled to question our elite sports teams
when things don't go well. That's what being a sports
fan is about. We are allowed to be passionate and
that means we can be disappointed when our teams lose
or don't play well or both, which was the case yesterday.
But in my view we need to temper that with

(14:09):
a certain degree of maturity. There are some who prefer
to get a bit of a head of steam up,
take aim at a few people and just let fly.
If that's what you're after, I'm afraid you're not going
to get it here. There are other platforms which will
give you that, So if that's what you're after, you
might well be better off on one of those. What

(14:33):
I prefer to do in situations like this, and I
don't make any apologies for this, is talking a sensible,
ground up ad Ould fashion about the things which are
going wrong and how they might be fixed. So let's
do that. Let's look at some changes I think they
have to come. I think Wallace to Titi and to
Mighty Williams come back into the starting site. I've got
absolutely everything crossed that cam Roygard has recovered from the

(14:55):
fracture in his foot that prevented him from going to Argentina,
because if he hasn't, and if the ribb injury that
forced Cortes off after just eighteen minutes y today is
more than just a whack on the side, we could
be faced with a situation where the half back pairing
and the biggest test since the last World Cup is

(15:17):
Finlay Christi and Kyle Preston, both perfectly serviceable halfbacks, but
the fact is neither of them were in the top
three that were picked at the start of the year.
And then we come to the back three where bold,
brave decisions are needed. Will Jordan's stays. Of course he does.
One bad game doesn't force out one of our best players,

(15:37):
but I think changes needed on the wings. Neither Rico
Yowani or Severa Reese has mounted anywhere near strong enough
a case in the first five tests of the year.
They haven't got the gas anymore to beat players on
the outside. They're both a bit susceptible under the highball,
neither has the X factor that our top wingers have
always had. Doesn't sound as though Caleb Clark will be
available as he recovers from his ankle injury. So if

(15:59):
I was picking the team, I'd move Will Jordan to
the right wing, bring Reuben.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Love in at full back.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
He's courageous under the high ball, defender a lusive runner,
and I'd throw Leeroy Carter a wild card from outside
the main squad onto the left wing, where he was
so effective for the Chiefs this season. I know it's
a big call, but in many ways it's a bigger
call to leave things as they are after what we
saw yesterday. If you always do what you've always done,
you'll always get what you've always got.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Seven twenty three. It takes some calls. Hello, Nigel, here
you go.

Speaker 8 (16:32):
Congratulations to Argentina. I mean they are a good side.
Look to me, I just think we are these training
camps that they are west, They're too long, and just
this obsession was resting and rotating. And the one that
really annoys me is this building debt. I mean, you
can only put fifteen out on the pack at one time.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
I guess what the counterpoint to that is, Nigel, is
that we're in a situation now where three of our
halfbacks have gone down, so we kind of got to
go back to the well, if you know what I mean. Look,
I'm I'm I'm a bit like you that I think
building depth doesn't necessarily mean you have to play these
guys all the time. I think you should come up
with your best team and play them as often as
you can. But we do find ourselves in situations where

(17:16):
you know, injuries happen and depth is required. And I
think we're in that situation right now with our half backs,
aren't we.

Speaker 9 (17:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
I'm not a big similarly Christian Christmas sand but I mean,
why would you, you know, why would you toss away
all his experience? I mean, I think that is a
good move to bring him back, because he's already hand
all that experience. So I'm not a big fan of his,
but I think it's stupid to throw away his experience.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I think he was sorry before just before we go on.
I thought he was one of the few players yesterday
who actually enhanced their reputation.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
You know, I'm a bit like you.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
I've never really considered Finla like Christie to be among
the top two or three half backs at the moment.
But the fact he came in, came off the bench
after eighteen minutes and just got stuck in. I admired
the way he played the game yesterday.

Speaker 10 (18:07):
Yeah, well, I just.

Speaker 8 (18:07):
Think that you know, he has had all that experience
and then throw it away would be stupid. I just
think that we we just don't play enough rugby sometimes,
Like Australia had a good build up going into Australia
had the best build up going into that Rugby Championships,
would you agree or not?

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Yeah, trouble they had the Lions, didn't they That's three
pretty tough test matches, hard to replicate, but yeah, you're right,
we had a what was supposedly a third string French
side but actually turned out to be quite good. But yeah,
the Lions certainly are cut above. Argentina played a couple
of they played the Lions and then a couple of
Test matches against England, so that was pretty good build
up for them. Yeah, I think I think the French Yeah,

(18:48):
I think the freaks provided.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Us with it was it was funny.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
It was a funny one not you mean, I'm not
sure what we expected to happen against France, you know,
start of the year players we didn't know. Yeah, it
was kind of It just felt suboptimal really, and we've
arrived nowt to situation where there's no more games and
he's got to put out a team that's going to
try and beat South Africa at Eden Park and defend
a thirty one year old home record.

Speaker 8 (19:13):
Yeah, as I say, I just think these training camps
are too long. I mean when I was twenty one
years old, I remember the All Macks would assemble seventy
two hours before kickoff.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Yeah, yeah, I've got to move to some other callers, mate,
But yeah, I think look, I'm not sure that that's
the issue here. They had to get to Argentina as well. Yeah,
I'm not sure time in camp is the issue. I think,
if anything, they'd probably want some more. But yeah, you're

(19:47):
landed on a couple of interesting points around around depth
and around what they do. I feel as though they
wanted to arrive at this point. I'm just spitballing here,
but I feel like they wanted to arrive at this
point knowing here's our best fifteen and our best twenty
three for this big game on the sixth of September,
and they had five ten matches to arrive at that

(20:08):
point this year. And I think they've arrived here, and
they've got question marks for various reasons. Nigel, thanks for
holding a mate and chatting to me.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Ian.

Speaker 9 (20:18):
Hi, Oh, hello there, Jason. How are you going, mate?

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I'm going well, Thank you, Ian.

Speaker 9 (20:25):
Good boy. I listen the most terrible game I've ever
seen in my whole life. The whole team useless, no good.
As the guy just before me said, there's something wrong
with all this training and stuff, Jason, I can't figure
it out. The coaches probably are going to have to

(20:45):
be front up over this sort of thing, because you know,
in the past we've lost good coaches through just minor mistakes.
But to me now, the way Rico played on the
wing there on Sunday morning, no good. Get rid of
him too. He's just got to go because he's made

(21:06):
so many cock ups. He's just sort of mucked everything
up in the last couple of games and up again.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Yeah, and let's be let's be okay, let's be constructive here. Okay,
So who are you're bringing in then? Who would you
like to bring in?

Speaker 9 (21:20):
Well I can't even think of half of the team, actually, Jay,
so who to bring in? Actually? But the names go,
what do you call it? With me?

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Now?

Speaker 3 (21:34):
And that's fine, I mean like and in many ways
you've answered the question yourself and that we haven't seen
enough of some of the other players who could potentially
fill those positions. Ricco Jouanni has played in four of
the five Test matches this year on the left wing.
Seva Reese was on the left wing for the other
one on the right wing. He started three of the five,
although he only lasted about a minute down in Dunedin

(21:55):
and Montie Nudawa started against France and Wellington. Will Jordan
was on the wing against France and Hamilton with Ruben
Loving at fallback. I like that idea. I like Love
at fall back. I thought he had a good game
against France and Hamilton, with plenty to work on and yes,
still inexperienced. But I would have Reuben Love in my side.
I'd have Will Jordan on the wing and as I say,

(22:17):
I would bring Lee Roy Carter in that. That would
be my solution based conversation. Thanks again, Henry, Hi.

Speaker 11 (22:24):
Mate, Hey Jason, there's going good.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Thank you mate.

Speaker 8 (22:28):
Hey.

Speaker 11 (22:29):
Yeah, one one big game, doesn't you know? It doesn't
make it bad season. I mean, you know it's one
big game game, Roy, go they you need to move
Heaven and nurse to give them back.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Absolutely, I'd send them off to Fiji and get some
herbal leaves on his angle or something.

Speaker 11 (22:42):
Henry, I don't know, I reckon, but you know, yes
they can come back. But the other thing was, have
you seen anything of the heart lane rugby.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
I haven't watched any of the games. No I haven't,
I must have known.

Speaker 11 (22:56):
Well, so so it started last weekend and there were
four teams that last weekend they scored over fifty points.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Actually, I saw a graphic that came up on my
social media, Henry, and it was like I looked at
it and I wondered whether they were basketball scores this.

Speaker 11 (23:13):
Week end Jason West Coast p aighty points on the
East Coast. He seems just work some of those ones.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
It must be fun to watch, Henry.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
What I love about it as I often look down
the list of where the games are and you know,
we get so used to test matches and to Super
Rugby and that sort of thing. But look, I'll go
just as an example, I'll go to this weekend wipe
it up a Bush against Mid Canterbury and Marstend and
Buller against South Canterbury and Westport. East Coast are playing
in a Torria hod Off into a Carperdy in Livin.

(23:46):
These are I mean, this is this is true grassrooms
rugby by.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
The sounds of it.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Tackling and defense is optional, Henry. But other than that,
I think it's probably a very good day out.

Speaker 11 (23:57):
Yeah, but you keep the face with you. All works Jason.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Good Man, Henry, you won't have a problem with that
with me. Mate, good to chat to you.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Ross, please hold there, mate, got to get a breakaway
seven thirty Back in a moment, be a line if
you want to talk some more Blacks eight hundred eighty
ten eighty.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
The right call is your call on Oh, eight hundred
eighty ten eighty Sports Talk call on your home of
Sports News Talks IB.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Seven thirty four on News Talks ab lines. I opened
to talk some more Black so eight hundred eighty ten eighty. Ross,
thanks for holding.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Make good evening, Piney.

Speaker 10 (24:26):
How are you doing.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
I'm doing great, Ross, Hey, getting on.

Speaker 10 (24:28):
Mate, Yeah, pretty good, pretty good. This week it was
all doom and gloom last week, bring both last. They
got a hiding, you know, clip the script. This week
all Blacks lose and now the top of the world.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
It's an incredible rugby championship, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Because you know well, I think we always want you know,
so jeopardy in our competitions, don't we. But every team
with a winning and loss after two weeks, I'm not
sure anybody would have predicted there.

Speaker 10 (24:53):
You know that's true, Piney. I mean it just goes
to show. I mean listening saw the headlines yesterday on
social media, you had all the chatter and everything, and
I think, man, you know how much how much things
can change in a week. I mean, we were in
that same position talking about the spring Box players too old,
need to change. Everyone dropped this, drop that, and churn
it around another week. I mean, it's it's just, it's

(25:15):
just it actually goes to show. Like you've just mentioned,
you know, it's the quality of the Rugby Championship. You know,
we shouldn't be looking at our teams poorer. You know
a lot of a lot of the teams are catching up,
a lot of the teams are getting a lot better.
And so it's it's for the for the pediment of us, and.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Let's talk about it.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah, yeah, let's talk about Aiden Park and sky Stadium
the following week. I know where your allegiance lies, and
that's great. I love love chatting rugby with you. How
are you feeling about these two taste matches, in particular
the one at Aden Park in teen days or so.

Speaker 10 (25:47):
Well? To be honest, Pioneers, I was a bit worried
last week you know, the way we were outdone and
out us I think even even parts of the game
this weekend. You know, our defense, you know, our defensive
lines normally solid. Jack Ninabas obviously gone to gone to Leinster,
So our defense looks a bit fractured. But in saying that,
I mean we've also you know, like I've very a

(26:09):
few of your callers saying, well, you know, the problem is,
you know we need depth and this and that, like
you've been speaking about it, and I mean we've done
it the opposite ring. I mean, we've chopped and changed
every week, and you can see that, you know, we
struggle with that balance across our team, you know, And
so I think I've seen we believe in Rasi that
much that we believe that this there's there's a trump
under's hat or something for for for for the All Blacks.

(26:32):
They always get up for that game. It's always a
close game. So not really much based on the All
Blacks performance this weekend, but you know, quietly confident, you
know that we have a players obviously we struggling with
injuries as well. We see her out and Peter stifty
toy and so many and so same with the All Blacks,
you know. But I think physically, if we can, if
we can, if we can match what the Argentinas have done,

(26:52):
you know. I think that's a big part of the
All Blacks performances of late, is that they missed that physicality,
you know, and so when you when you play an
Argentina team that's on and they have that physicality. Like
you were talking earlier about, you know, the All Blacks
like to play asked free flowing rugby. If you can
take that away from them, you know, and if you
can restrict them and say well we're gonna pin you back,
what are you going to do? And that's why sometimes

(27:13):
I think players like Rico Jowani and the wingers and
the full backs struggle, but because they used to having
so much space, you know, and especially when you're coming
from Super rugby and to this and you think, well,
where's all the space? This is what I normally do.
So I think if we can, if we can mess
them physically and and hopefully physically dominate them. We've struggled
against the Australians. I couldn't believe the fans held us
in this. In the set piece, in the scrums line outs, everything.

(27:36):
They were really really matched us. So I mean there's
the there's the blueprint for the for the All Blacks
to look at, and I mean we've got the blueprint
at Argentina to look at. So it's all geared up
to actually make it, to make it a really true
battle and see where each coach is. I mean they'll
base it on what what they do on on the
weekend as to see where they truly are as a team.
I suppose.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Well, yeah, to Titanic Games coming, jac I'm excited about
it now.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Ross, I've got a white. I've got a white.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
We're gonna get through Nick's weekendle the one coming and
then we get to h to Wade and Park. Are
you in the position to get to either of the
two games?

Speaker 10 (28:09):
Well, Piney, I'm actually going down to both. The spring
Box arrived in town on Wednesday just before midnight. They'll
be here, so I'll be down at the airport to
welcome them. Mere Welcome Committee is going to be down there,
and I'll be down for the game at Eden Park.
You know, want to see that Hudu broken. So I've
got to be their history, you know, We've got to
be there to say to my children, even though most
of them are All Black supporters. But I can say

(28:31):
I was there and I'll be in Willington as well,
so hopefully I'll run. I'll running to you somewhere Piney and.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
With you that I would look ross.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
I would love nothing more than that, mate, I would
love nothing more than that. And keep your phone on too,
you know when I'm on the air, sat alone on
Sunday twelve till three. Happy to take your call at anytime, mate,
great chatting to you.

Speaker 12 (28:50):
Well, Hi, kay Parney, here are you?

Speaker 2 (28:53):
You're all right, Phillim, all right, good good.

Speaker 12 (28:56):
I just wanted to reiterate a point you made earlier
on about the back three in the All Blacks. I
think more especially Rinko YOONI. I think he's well passed
his best and it seemed to me that he was
being held on to based on his statistics. All we
were here about is that he's the fastest All Black.

(29:19):
But in the last few games that he's played, I've
counted at least three occasions where he has just dropped
the ball cold and to me, his head just asn't
in it. And even at one point on the weekend
he turned he was on defense, he got turned and

(29:40):
his turnaround looked like he was old and tired. And
I think it's just time to give someone like Leroy
Carter who's hungry and had a great work rate and
obviously would contribute well. I think that versus someone who
looks like he's a bit mundane and tired.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yeah. I wonder about the mindset of Rico. And I
don't know him at all.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
I'm just spitballing here, but he's played so often at center,
and ever since he's moved to center for the All Blacks.
Every time there was any media opportunity, and the suggestion
of going back to the wing was even raised with him,
he just got a bit prickly about it and said, look,
I thought I thought we were done talking about this,
So now he's back on the wing. I wonder whether
that's part of his mindset. I think he is still quick,

(30:28):
but he's quick over one hundred meters, and you don't
have one hundred meters in a game of rugby. Fill
you know, it's that it's that ten to twenty meter
pace that a guy like Leroy Carter definitely has. And
I feel like you, man, I think I think wing
is a young man's position, you know, it's a it's
a hot hand position. And I can't see a scenario
under which in the first game of the next Rugby

(30:50):
World Cup Severa rec and Rika Juan are the All
Blacks wingers. It just it just doesn't seem likely to me.

Speaker 12 (30:57):
I think you're right, you know, if you have a
look at historically speaking, wingers hit the scene for the
because they're showing some promise and creativity, a bit of
youth and exuberance, and usually it would appear, at least
historically in the All Blacks, once wingers get to about

(31:19):
twenty six years old, they seem to go off the boil,
as opposed to obviously props who can seem to be
able to play until they're about thirty five at the
highest level.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Indeed, so.

Speaker 12 (31:31):
It is the young man's game on the wing. I
got to admit, and I think Rico's gone past that age.
I'm not picking on him necessarily, but I agree with
you that there needs to be some change here. And
you've got someone like Leroy Cart who's jumping out of
his skin and is doing you know, really really good things.
Give him a chance, give him a go, because that exuberance,

(31:55):
as you say, is not necessarily going to be there
for years and years.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Yeah, you've got to use your window wisely, use that
window of energy wisely. And yeah, I got to chat
Field drive safe, mate. It's a hot hand the wing position.
Look at near him on the sculler in twenty fifteen,
George Bridge and Sevo himself in twenty nineteen, even while
sucking a holo in twenty fifteen, even though he didn't
actually play that often in twenty fifteen, he was the

(32:22):
hot hand. Guys come in who are who are at
the top of their game for the year to eighteen
months before a World Cup, Scott Robertson said, when Leroy
Carter came into the wider training group with the All Blacks, he.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Tore them up. Give him a crack mark, Hi.

Speaker 13 (32:41):
Hey Piney. Yeah, I'd like to see Natal get a
chance as well. And I would have liked to see
covid Tonawa get some game time because I mean to
throw them against the spring box is probably going to
be a bit too much as far as Rico goes.
I'm not a Rico hater. I like him in the
middle of there. I think it's going to be quite
interesting the team that actually gets name for this this

(33:03):
spring box to or two games or whatever it is,
because I think it'll give you an idea of what
the coaches are actually thinking, and because at the moment,
I don't really know what they're thinking. Especially in the
back line. I think the Fords are almost taking care
of themselves. I mean, I think they're probably going to
go a little bit bigger. In the Fords, you know,
it'd be good to get to tig Beck and I

(33:25):
mean Simothsony has come back. He's scored three tries in
two games. I mean, I love I love that. I'd
love to see him get more time. But whether he's
fit enough to play sort of like sixty minutes, I
don't know where he's at, But man, he's I think
he really makes an impact in the Sony. I mean,
I know to you know, to Mighty is in there
as well. There's a big body against the box. But yeah,

(33:46):
I mean I think in the Fords we're actually probably
pretty said. It's just the controversy seems to come in
the back line to me. And I mean, you don't
I know that, you know, you sort of don't like
Reese on on the wing.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
Do you No, No, I don't again, nothing personal, but
I think of Caleb Klatt was fit, then he'd probably
be on on the left wing. I don't know whether Sevu,
I mean Sevu's you know, he's played off and on
the right. I like Nadawa too. Yeah, I don't know.
It just it just feels like there's change needed, just

(34:20):
on the third end, jumper mark. They may go back
to Rico at thirteen.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
That wouldn't be beyond the runs.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
The possibility they might put him back in at center
because I'm not sure Billy Procter has necessarily grabbed his chance.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
With both hands there. So yeah, sorry.

Speaker 13 (34:38):
Yeah, I think Billy's it's a bit like Stephen Donald,
to be honest, I don't know Stephen Donald what in
the World Cup. But Billy Proctor is like a good
super rugby player. But you know, that little step up,
well it's probably quite a big step up to international.
I mean, I don't I don't think Rico's done a
hell of a lot. Role is centered. To me, I

(34:58):
think he's good. I think he works well with Jordy. Yeah,
and to me, that's going to be the biggest probably
decision what they do with coach because I don't think
they're going to keep on on the wing. I think
that's been a bit of a failed experiment in yeah,
putting that there, But I mean, I guess bringing Love
and I guess Love's going to got to come into
the All Blets at some stage. He's got that much

(35:19):
talent and I think he is the one player that
probably does all right kicking the ball and actually catching
it again.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
And catching it from when it's kicked towards them as well. Mark.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Yeah, look, the selection is a big part of coaching.
The team will be fascinating to watch. Good to channels always,
Mark seven forty five. When we come back, we'll rate
the weekend Piney's Power Rankings coming up.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Our rankings.

Speaker 9 (35:48):
Right out.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Let's rate the weekend Piney's Power Rankings, rating the best,
the worst and in between. But it's from the Sporting Weekend.
The All Blacks are down at ten and unwanted piece
of rugby history in Buona series and it is.

Speaker 5 (36:01):
Over twenty nine to twenty three. And what a side
is is bouncing h Argentina. They did it in Paramatta,
they did it in christ Church, they did it in Wellington.
But now they do it's in their capital.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Yeah, are disjointed, ill disciplined and inaccurate display really, which
leaves the All Blacks with plenty of work to do
before South Africa.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Arrived next month.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Sign the Auckland rugby team O and four this NPC

Cup beating Sydney FC via a penalty shootout.

Speaker 14 (36:56):
So lily already on the score sheet this evening. Oh,
he slips like he's slipped all night and that's it.
And we wondered if a slip would prove the crucial moment,
and at the most crucial moments it is a slip
from Joe Lolly that has sent Auckland into the semi finals.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Where they'll meet Heidelberg United for a place in the
Deciders seven. Staying with football, Arsenal are at seven, setting
the pace in the Premier League and putting five unanswered
goals past Leads United Yesterday.

Speaker 5 (37:26):

Speaker 3 (37:39):

won the penalty for their fifth goal.

Speaker 10 (37:45):
Six.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
The Black Perns at six are professional display to open
their defense of the Women's Rugby World Cup with a
rioting star to the fourth.

Speaker 14 (37:52):
Crazier Homes shifting along the chak George of Miller, little
Dubby from Bella the step Georgia Mmeller, welcome to the
rugby World Chaps. The ball wide Braxton Surrenzon McGee, She's
got Milla on the outside.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
Get on two, but Georgia Miller eight tries and all
for the Black Ferns, dispatching Spain fifty four to eighty
five into the top half. Tommy Fleetwood finally winning on
the USPGA Tour.

Speaker 11 (38:19):
Tommy Fleetwood breaks through in the grandest way possible.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
His first career PGA Tour win is good.

Speaker 14 (38:27):
Enough to win the twenty twenty five FedEx cut let.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
It all out Sun they break the hoodo of one
hundred and sixty three starts, forty four top ten finishers
and six second places without a win, victorious and the
Tour championship by three strokes. Sure the wires the Warriors
are at four, dispelling any thought of the Titans being
their bogey team. A thirty to eighteen win, couple of

(38:52):
tries to Roger tuey vasashev.

Speaker 8 (38:53):
Now forga tan out for boy, I'd have this so
good coup be under tom Us check.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
He's gonna double Lodger, keeping their top four hopes in
their own hands with just two games to go. Free

result of his career at the British Masters.

Speaker 10 (39:15):
Surely not, surely.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Not, go on, go on, my son? Whoa what the fuck?

Speaker 6 (39:24):

Speaker 3 (39:26):
That barly on seventeen helped him to a second equal finish,

Speaker 5 (39:42):
Unknown in four five Edison in Hoorai and he posts that, well,
junior line, who's going to get the hand of the wall?

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Hoorai?

Speaker 2 (39:50):
No Tedison gets.

Speaker 11 (39:51):
It done for New Zealand.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
What an exceptional result then for Zoey.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Tedyson clocking twenty five point sixty three seconds to beat
her own national age group record while also claiming gold.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
But she ain't number one.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
That can only be White Cuttle taking back ownership of
the most famous trophy in New Zealand sports.

Speaker 6 (40:15):
I beg it comes till it comes favoring He gets
him at a touch maybe says.

Speaker 9 (40:19):
It's all over.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
White Callow have.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
One the red Filly chilled twenty three, twenty two and
a heart stopper. I just wonder about that order now
that it's played out on the radio. How do you
feel about that order?

Speaker 15 (40:41):
Yeah, Tommy Fleetwood's five, Yeah, yeah, I can't wait for
my Tommy Fleetwood a moment. Piney, it's coming soon. I
don't have one hundred and sixty three starts to my name,
so I've I've got a bit of time.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
To work with him.

Speaker 10 (40:53):
There.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Absolutely, it'll come. Just be patient, it'll come. I wouldn't
mind him a first start.

Speaker 15 (40:59):
Actually that would be nice, but also probably highly embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
All right, Those are Piney's power ranking for tonight. They
return next Monday here on news Talk Sete, coming up
four to eight. Final word goes to Steve Piney, you're
such a Hurricanes man, but I'd probably agree with you
on Reuben Love for me, though I'm not sure you
made Billy practic should stay. I'd put Anton Lennart Brown

(41:26):
back in the middle or Rico back in the thirteen jumper.
By the way, says Steve Fielding. Hi boys got up
in the Hurricanes area this week and into the top four.
Let's see how they go.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Thanks Steve.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
I got someone run three yesterday and chatted about that,
didn't they about the top four which is coming up
this coming weekend? Top four first fifteen sides. Let's see
if I can remember them. I don't think i'll be
able to was a King's College in Auckland. I'm gonna
get myself in trouble here, Fielding Southland Boys in one other?

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Was it a west Lake? Westlake? Was it Westlake? Not Kings?
You're right to get myself in trouble, as well, you're right.

Speaker 3 (42:03):
It was Westlake, west Lake Fielding, Southend Boys in one.

Speaker 2 (42:09):
Other and another one.

Speaker 15 (42:11):
