Grant Fox: Andy Haden was 'an innovator for sport' in NZ

A pioneer for sport in New Zealand has passed away.
All Blacks great Andy Haden has died aged 69, after a long battle with cancer.
The former lock played 117 matches and 41 tests for the All Blacks between 1972 and 1985.
Former All Blacks first five Grant Fox told D'Arcy Waldegrave he was devastated when he heard the news, and Haden was an "advocate".
"Andy was a pioneer, he advocated for the professional game well before its time, he sort of flirted around with the rules, he was always challenging, he fought for players rights.
"Even in the face of some adversity and push back at times, if he believed he was right and it was to the betterment of others, he would stand his ground.
"I always admired Andy for that [his strong opinions]."
Mr Fox says Mr Haden was a colossus on the field and a great leader.
"Andy was getting towards the end of his career when I started with Auckland, and I can remember vividly how demanding he was."
