Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk ZB.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We're talking Emma in the program now UFC three three.
It's had a few changes out of the City Kickboxing
Jim Mike Ango that joins us Mike. Yet another change
for Carlos Auberg. How many has he gone through now?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Well, I guess he's taken advantage of an opportunity that
was the one to fight Jamal Hill.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Obviously Jamal has pulled out.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
We still haven't had confirmations as to why.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
You can only assume it's some form of injury.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
And now we're looking looking like we've got Anthony Smith,
complete change up. He's a six foot four fighter, but
he is a conventional fighter. He is a little schlur
on the feet, no less powerful, but he's very good
grapper as well. He's a high level jiu jitsu guy
in particular. So you know that that's quite a different challenge,

(01:06):
different stance and a different skill set.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
We'll be dealing with a risks.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Do you think for Carlos to have to reprepare it
for someone very very different only a week out from
the script.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, but by the same taken Smith's taking the fight
on relatively short notice as well.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I mean he's been around for such a long time.
He's a veteran.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
He is that guy you need to get passed to
get into the top five anyway. So for us it's
a guy ranked above us. It's a great opportunity. He's
a former title challenger as well, so you know we're
in a similar opportunity. Yes, it's not Jamal who did
hold the title recently, but you know we'll still be

(01:46):
fighting a guy who's been a former title challenger. He's
been at the top end for a very long time.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
And we will now be.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
On Alex Pajeter's undercart as well, because of course the
heater's fighting PROHOSCA.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Now now that Connor McGregor has been ruled out by injury, you'll.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Come back to that short just go back to jamaall
hell again. Seems that there's a lot of fighters dropping
out of fights in this day and age anymore. From
what you can see is it's becoming more regular. And
how much of this is legitimate? How do we know
if they're injured or they're running.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Scared, or you don't get you don't get to drop
out without providing medical evidence. So, and Jamal would have
wanted this fight, absolutely, he would have. He would have
seen it as a good opportunity for him to get
back into the get back into the running and and
find a fast trap back to rematching Alex Pahea. So

(02:36):
you know this is this will be disappointing for Hell.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
What about for your charge, carlos Uberg, you won't how much? Well,
how many places will he move up should he get
the win, because he would have jumped quite a lot
should he done well against Till. Maybe not the case
with Smith. Where does it sick? Because's no longer a
comine event either, is it, Mike.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
No, it's not.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
But as I say, Smith has he's been there, he's
challenged for the title, and he's fought some of the
best in the division and beaten some of the best
in the division. So what happens with the rankings is
beyond our control. But he's above us in the rankings.
That would take us to you know, a seven fight
win streak, which is really putting you on line for

(03:21):
a title and a division which is pretty active at
the moment. So you know, had we beaten Jamal, it
would have put us in line for a title shot next,
I think, and I don't think we'll be that far
off from when or when really we beat Anthony Smith.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Mike Ango joined us from City Kickboxing. When they look
at making these fights, is a streak more important than
a ranking?

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Well, the two come hand in hand, don't they, you know?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
And Carlos, you know, if he's got past Menifield, and
if he gets past Anthony Smith, that is that is
a very very well credentialed, incredible name. So you know
those things, those things add up in a dominant performance
against Smith means that you know he'll be he'll again

(04:12):
be very much in the matchmaker's eyes. And mcmaynard is
looking pretty closely right now, so you know, we'll take
this opportunity.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
More on that later. Let's go back to kind of
McGregor and what's up with him, because this was going
to be a huge comeback. This would have put a
lot of bums on seats, more importantly, a lot of
credit cards on pay per view, wouldn't it. So any
idea what's happened to him? Are you any closer to that? Mike?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Look, we don't know, we really don't know. We've heard
that there's an injury. We've heard that the camp's in disarray.
We don't know, and that's not our place to comment.
Oh look, it's an injury. It's an injury. That's nothing
that we can you know, we question. We do know
that there's been some rumors coming out of the camp

(04:57):
that things haven't been going smoothly, But for us, that's
that's not really any.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Of our business.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
If you're like, we've got to focus on beating Anthony Smith.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
But certainly the USC will be disappointed with this.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
They have pulled Alex Spahedro and the europe oscar fight
and put that on, meaning they wanted to have a
compelling fight at the top of that card, so you know, financially,
I'm sure that will take a den.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
We don't know what's happening with Connor MacGregor.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Though Danna wouldn't be the happiest man would.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Aduce that agent lifestyle come unto it, Well, no, I
doubt he would be, you know, and it goes to
show the pulling power that a guy like MacGregor has.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
I mean, this has been up in the air and
tossed around.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
For the last few days, so clearly there's something up
and we you know, again everything is speculation and for us,
we're in that company.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
We're contract with the company.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
We turn up, we do our job, we win fights,
we we get titles, we continue to climb up the rankings.
You know, Connor's time will be passed soon, you know.
And it's really in my mind in a way, it's
like I wouldn't say it's it's flogging a dead horse,
but what you're doing is you're squeezing every bit of

(06:20):
shine you can get out of kind of McGregor, you know,
while he can still put on a performance, and that
that always has a finite limit.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Disappointing for us.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
We wanted to be on that card, but you know,
we just got to move on, take the fights and
the game will continue its.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Prize fighting for you, Mike, and go before we let
you go, just a wee bit more on Anthony Smith.
From what I can gather, you said he's more of
a conventional fighter. Explain that. And from what I can
gather with us grappling game, he's obviously got some good
reach as well. I think he strikes quite well too
with the feats. He's an all around package all be
it a journeyman. He's been around for a long time,

(06:58):
so just talk us through what he'll present in the octagon.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
He's not a journeyman, no, that's the first thing. He
is a little long in the teeth, but he's far
from it journeyman. He's a former title contender and he's
put out some very very dangerous fighters. He is a
conventional fighter, meaning that he stands right handed rather than
left handed. Jamal Hill is a predominantly left handed fighter.
A although he switch hits. You know, he's a little

(07:22):
slower than Jamal Hill. He's less explosive, but he does
hit very, very hard, and you know, he's very orthodox,
and the kind of shots that he throws on the ground,
he presents a different challenge. He's got a decent wrestling
game and a very good submission game, so well rounded, dangerous,
and he's a guy you need to get past to

(07:44):
prove that you're ready for a title shot.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
A gatekeeper, if you will, still looking forward to it's
still going to buy. It's still all over. Carlos Auberg
and with that, Mike Lightning Anger, we thank you for
your time. You have a wonderful weekend.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
