Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Duncy Wildergrave
from News Talk z'd be.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good friend of the program. Yvonne Willerings also commentates as well.
She joins us now good evening, Evon.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yes, good evening.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Quite a day for New Zealand and Nepal came out
of nowhere. Dame Noel Ing Potter and his staff have
been stood down for the tiny Jamison. When when knew
this was your initial reactions? This really come out of
the blue.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Yeah, and part absolutely it has.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
I knew something was a miss was that's supposed to
have a training camp and I wasn't at that.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I was going to go just as a support person
and that just didn't happen. But yeah, what gets me
one is the timing of all this.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
I mean, let's not read too much into the whole
thing and form our own opinions, and boy, if we
did that's some of them are not exactly favorable. But
you know, you look at this and you go, that's
got a huge management group, and if it's the players,
they do lots of one on ones, they have a
leadership group there. Why if there are issues, why were
(01:15):
these not addressed after the last series when they were
all together, and I'm going, why is this being left
just before Tiny Jemison comes on? Or has this been
brewing for a while And if it has, wow, why
you know has it taken so long? And it still
hasn't been sorted by the way, because now all they've
done is put in interim coaches for the Tiny Jamerson series.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Now you say coaches, because they've almost cleared the deck
seven't they leon And THEOTO is coming as an assistant
for event the cause and jury, which i'd suggest even
that's not been confirmed that Debbie Fuller's been pushed to
one side as well. So I mean, I don't know,
as you said, I mean as a coaching and management situations,
it's something to do with the new high performance that
(02:00):
they want to put in place, because that would have
been part of what they're trying to imprint and planning
that didn't go down very well.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, well, the and the media release it actually says
that they want to have changes to the Silveran's high
performance program and also environment.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
So that means it isn't just about Dave Nole in Tarrua.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
This is about the whole management group because it isn't
just about what's happening out in court.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
They're also talking about environment. So yeah, that's why I'm
saying that.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I think that now just for the Tiny Jameson Trophy
vet and yeah you've got Alela Liota taking.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Charge of the situation.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
But I actually don't even think that a team's been
named yet, and I'm sure that has to be done
fairly soon because don't forget they were a squad and
Dame nole In Tarru was going to name a team
for the Tiny Jameson and then name another team and
there would be some changes, I believe, but certainly Warmsley
for one, would be back from the World Youth Cup
(03:01):
and that would be named for the for the Constellation Cup.
So again it's a situation where now as it looks
as it looks, it's going to be left to.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
The last moment.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
And my main main thing is why has this been
left so long?
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Basically I believe to fester.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Surely, if there's been an issue, whether it's with management
or with players, surely it should have been addressed at
the time when this was occurring, because you know, over time,
boy thinks confester and to me, I think that's exactly
what's happened.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Well, it says Silvern's manager team Damon Noley, Netball New Zealand,
concerning proposed changes to the Silver Ferns high Performance program
and environment. What does that suggest to you? If this
is a big group thing, it's between the players and
the management and Netball New Zealand. So does that aim
(03:55):
at anything to you?
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Well, I think it's it's a lack of communication between
all concerned actually, because like you in any particular camp,
you've got your high performance person and there as well,
you've got all the people there. They often have meetings
and you know, and now it's a situation, that's what's happened.
Have they not been honest in those meetings or or
(04:19):
has this something that has just come up and you've
got a situation.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
You've got the Players Association.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
I'm sure that they're going to be involved in subcapacity
because players if they have any concerns, I would say, see,
I wouldn't have gone through the Players Association. If the
players had any concerns, Why couldn't it have been addressed
with the group as a whole and keep it in
house and you know, and solve all the problems, and
you know, I just think, you know, would they have
(04:46):
been problems if they'd been solved initially, And now you've
got a situation.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Who knows what's going to happen next.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
So no murmurings when you were last and around the
camp again, keep your end of the ground. You're pretty
trusted individual, Yvonne. You didn't get a will of it
earlier on when you actually without the camp themselves.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
No, No, the last I know, absolutely not, you know.
And again I come in and it is mainly there
as support and certainly, yeah, I never came across anything players,
any players that I've met, No through A and Z
situation again, and I know that players certainly are focused
(05:23):
on the priority of obviously A and Z and performing
for their franchises. But yeah, I just can't believe that
suddenly this has come out and like I said, this
should have been at least brought to the four on
the completion of their last encounter together.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
It was said by another radio station. And they believe
it's a player revolt. It's living by then. They don't
like what's going on now. That takes me back to
Hagar days with New Zealand hockey player driven, but we
don't know this gain no one.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Will talk, no, and you've got to be very careful
one just start saying this stuff that I mean, hey,
I know, you know I've been through in my own right,
So got to be very careful about that because often
it's only one two people's opinion and suddenly it becomes
about the whole squad, you know, and management and everything concerned.
So and that's why I'm just very reluctant to certainly
(06:21):
speak on behalf of anyone else because a lot of
it is here say and really I just hope that
even you know, initially within the whole Neple New Zealand
structure and the silver ferns environment and definitely a noll
Into and also the rest of their staff, that they
all get together and at least sort something out to
(06:42):
see exactly where we go leading ahead and not.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Just bury it.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
And at the moment it's a time factor because at
the moment they've said, rodo you know she will not
be taking the ferns for the tiny Jemison, So you
know what will happen after that? Before the Constellation Cup?
Are they going to just carry on with what they've got?
You know or you know what happens next, and I
think that's a situation that the only time is going
(07:08):
to tell.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
No, We'll watched the space pretty keen breaking story today, Yvonne.
Thank you very much as always for joining us. But yeah,
time will tell. We'll find out sooner rather than late,
because as you mentioned Tiny jameson on the way Constellation
Cup around the corner, you can't get these things under
ali for that long.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Surely, nah.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
And it's probably not a great time to chat about
our sport and who wants to talk about it in
this negative frame. But I'm very disappointed about how you know,
and I just hope that from now on it is
handled in the correct manner.
