Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
So much going on and we're going to get things
underway now with the man by the name of Caleb Clark.
You may know him as an all Black who can
jump high and collect the ball. My mind is that
needed next week. Auckland had a terrible start to the season,
but now they've got two on the bounce, which is
exactly the same as Counties. Monaco started awfullet now they've
(00:35):
picked it up. So Caleb all Black wing has been
released to join the Auckland side to compete. He's going
to be there with Ireca Yoanni camp Roy Garters in
the opposition and he joins us now to talk about Caleb.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Goodday, good.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
From it.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, and I'm a bit alarmed you're saying good to
see me. You lying in the studio somewhere. That's a
bit storky there, Bro. That's good. Hey, you're playing rugby
this afternoon and you're playing with the old mate Rico
Yuanni for Auckland. You're playing in Counties against Counties which
sees the return of Roy Guard action. I Cam Royguard.
(01:15):
This is a pretty big exchange, not only for a
local perspective, but from an all black perspective as well.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, no, we're all quite excited get to see Cam back.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Firstly, we've been in camp.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Together the last couple of weeks, so I've been seeing
him train hard next to the field, and finally getting
to see him get up there will be pretty good.
And then yeah for us as well, we got Reeks
coming back as well, getting a game under his belt.
Talking to him, you know, this is his first game
since twenty twenty he's played for Auckland, so it's going
to be a quite exciting time. Then yeah, both teams
coming off two wins. I hear it's county seventieth anniversary
(01:48):
as well the same weekend, so massive occasion.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
They'll have the wind in their sales after what happened
last week. They just didn't have the win. Last week.
They blew South And out of the park. I mean
it was sixty four plus points they scored. It was mental.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yeah, you know, they're like we was like like to say,
you know that they're prior to South Auckland and went
down to the South Island and just showed the boys.
But yeah, it's exciting for us, it's a new challenge
both you know we're coming off two good wins as
well and so are they, so expecting some firework later today.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
What did you pull out of the monow two fixture
just finding the score fifty two twenty nine was then school?
What have you taken from that in the lead up
to this game from a coaching perspective, because plaining you
were there, but what.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Have you got?
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah, no, just from the coaches, you know, it's about
playing with confidence.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Looking at the review tapes of last.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Week, you know it was a game of two halves
to be fear, we were losing at halftime and then
come the second half the boys had to win behind
their back and just had to go. So again that's
that's the same things that we want to do. We're
looking to spread the ball wide, get into the hands
of the playmakers, making sure that our fords are winning
that front foot battle. And we know against the Counties
(03:04):
boys later today it's kind it's going to be where
the battle is and so yeah, it's exciting and we
just want to make sure we're playing on the right.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Part of the field as well and turn some of
those big boys around.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Good for your soul, isn't it Playing back at the
n PC where it all started. You've got to get
a huge head out of that. It's it's grassroots. I
mean it's in PC, so it's up there. But it's
kind of real rugby, isn't it calable?
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, it's good fun and it's getting to represent where
you grew up and where you're from.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
It is probably one of the coolest things you can
do as rugby players.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
So checking on the blue and white hooks again, you
know a team that runs through my family as well.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
That's that's really exciting.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
You've seen that Auckland are two on the bounce, but
a shocking start for the team. Do you think they
think the team's actually righted itself now and has picked
anything up over the well, not the wins, but over
the losses more predominantly, because I'm well told, not that
I'm an e PC player, but you learn a whole
lot more from the losses.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yeah, no, definitely, you're doing so the boys. It's again
like it's a young crew. I remember we spoke a
few weeks ago just how young this team is. They've
learned a lot over the last few weeks, especially from
the losses and those close losses as well.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
They've learned a lot about themselves.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
So now we're starting to see that come to fruition.
And got two good wins against two good teams. You know,
Tazzi is always strong and mon or two have been
been hissing this year, so again, yeah, it's just about
keep going and building on that momentum.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
The Tasmin victory is something to talk about, isn't it,
because as you mentioned, they're they're reasonably sharp. I mean,
they've got one heck of a backline and there's no doubt,
but they're not dominating and they're still sitting. I think
they're outside the four at the moment. They've had a
couple of losses. But that what you take from that
game must inject some of the younger guys with confidence.
(04:50):
They actually have what it takes, and that's that's very important.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yeah, definitely, And again yeah, Tazzi have so many super
baby players in their team as well, so for our
boys to get that experience and play against.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
A few of those guys, it just builds a confidence.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
And had a few words of Dalton Popoliti throughout the week,
and so he's really excited and getting up for this
game as well, which is a well experienced player in
the Counties team, so looking forward to throwing hands with
him later today.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
We've got NBC Rugby all weekend. Of course, the big
focus will be for next weekend that Eden Park. That
record yet a game it keeps haunting. Have you got
any instruction from All Black management about what they want
to see and if you had a nudge about whether
you'll be appearing because the team they're looking some wounds
after last weekend, aren't they.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's a tough old weekend last weekend, Yeah,
it was real quiet in those changing rooms. But I've
always believed and I've always known that a wounded All
Blacks team is a dangerous All Blacks team And to
come up against that team at Eden Park, you know
there's a lot to play for and so I know
we'll get right back on track. And so for me personally,
(05:56):
they just want me to play and get some minutes
under the belt. Keep seeing me working off the ball
and just using my left book kick, So that's pretty
much what I'm trying to do. And then also when
they aerial game as well as my my main objective.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
That's huge, huge from an all black perspective. And I'm
what I'm surprised about. I'm not I'm not ripping on you,
mister Clark, but your area game is rip snort. It
must be hell of it hard to get that rig
up in the air. I mean, how do you manage that.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I'm lucky. I'm lucky if someone jeans helps me get
me up in the air. And I've always been quite
quite the big
