Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildegrave from News Talk ZEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
SO Football we Go.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Now, welcome to DFC taking on the Newcastle jet said
to us coming up the South the noon and we're
joined now by Cam Howison as we take a look
at that Cam the big game at home today, huh
and welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Thanks for having me. Yeah, obviously very excited for today's game.
We've prepared well and we've had a great start to
the season, so yeah, we're obviously looking for another win
and making you know, playing at Homer Fortress.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
This wasn't by mistake, this was by design you guys.
Obviously you want to win when you turned up, knowing
how important and winning start was for the club. Doesn't
kind of a surprise. You've done what you've done, right.
You put a lot of money in here.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yeah, obviously we have very high standards within our club
and we've worked extremely hard throughout the preseason three months long,
so you've put a lot of time and effort into
preseason and you know we're producing performances and results now,
so I know we're probably a bit of a surprise package.
No one really knew much about us, but I'm sure

(01:21):
you know other teams know fully what we're about now.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Didn't surprise yourself though, did you?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
No? Definitely not. We go into every game obviously to
get the three points, and we always have a game
plan for whoever we're coming up against. And you know,
for four wins on the trot not even considered a goal.
We can't ask for much more.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
That's insane and in yourself, in your own position, what
you've managed to start a couple of games off the
bench in a couple so you've been involved, but you
haven't got a mortgage on the role yet. Is that good? Bad?
And different? What does that mean?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I think it's healthy. I think it's healthy for the team,
for the club and for players. You know, there's a
lot of competition for places. We've got a lot of
depth in our squad and that's that's probably makes you know,
the gaffer's choice hard to make on the weekend who
he puts out to start. But as a player, you
know you want to be playing every game, you want

(02:17):
to be starting, but you know when not just making
sure having that impact when coming on from the bench.
So yeah, I just got to keep my head down
and keep pushing and you know, hopefully some more starts
can come away.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Cam Howison. When you play, is it fear of maybe
blowing your chance or is it a celebration knowing that
if you're good you will maintain or get lifted. What
what drives you around there?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Definitely if I play well to you know, obviously cemit
my spot. You know, I'm not someone that puts a
lot of pressure on myself. You know, I enjoy moments
when I'm starting, So yeah, I think when your your
name's on the team sheet to start, you just go
out there and try and have fun and enjoy it
and embrace the moment. So yeah, like I said, the

(03:02):
more starts the area.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Kim meant to. Has Karrika been in your involvement in
the side and where you sit as an attacking midfielder
is it? Is it working for you?

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah? It's obviously. Throughout pre season I was playing a
bit deeper and then lately I have I have been
playing a lot a lot more forward near the striker,
so it's a good thing for me. I'm very versatile
in midfield. I can play a number of different roles,
so when caught upon I'm ready. But yeah, obviously, you

(03:38):
know the Gaff has done it in Australia and as
a player as a coach, so there's a lot to learn.
I've learned a lot so far, and you know he
has a lot of knowledge, and you know, not for
just myself, the older ones, the younger ones coming through,
I think they're learning a lot from him also. So yeah,
just obviously trying to stick to the game plan and

(04:00):
you know, hopefully you can get another result and hopefully
I can be involved and it'd be nice to it
off the mark with a goal.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Ken Howson. What do the Newcastle Jets provide? What are
they going to bring to Mount Smart this afternoon.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, obviously they're a great team. They're obviously looking for points.
We played them in pre season and that was a
very tough game. They're a football inside that likes to
have the ball, to keep the ball, and they've got
some very dangerous players up front. So we've got to
be on the money like we have been in the
past four games defensively, but I think we need to

(04:37):
be also better today with the ball. I think we
probably didn't show that so much in the game in Australia,
So being back at home. We just want to obviously
put on display, get three points, that's the most important,
but obviously putting in a performance as well for the
fans to go away happy desperation.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
How much does that come into it? Because four games played,
only one game one toward the bottom of the table,
it's early doors. But how dangerous does that make them?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, obviously they're very hungry to get more points on
the board, so it makes it dangerous. You know, we
obviously got to watch them in Australia. All the teams
are in Australia, so we got to have an eye
on them, knowing that we had them this week. So yeah,
they're good footballing side and we've done a lot of
work and a lot of homework on them, and you know,

(05:26):
we just got a shut up shop on them and
put in a good performance and hopefully and not give
them any points.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
You say, shut up shop, please don't pack a bus.
This is not what Auckland FC do. Get out there, attack, attack, attack,
get it all on the back of the net. Can
see nothing and carry on trumpeting your amazing introduction to
the A League. Can Holison, thanks very much for joining us.
You play well, play hard, play Fair from five o'clock
this a afternoon.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Thanks for your time, cheers, thank you.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
