Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey, Hey, how's a guying going real well?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Being a Warriors fan right now is hoops of fun
and expect Being a Warriors player right now is heaps
of fun as well. Enjoyment. It's got to be a
key to the success.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
You're having right now.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Yeah, having fun as a big part of playing good
foot and we're having a lot of fun at the moment.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Winning.
Speaker 5 (00:30):
Winning is fun and that's what we want to keep
doing throughout the end of this year.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I'm sure it's not just fun those other things you
got to apply the key. Pickup. What's Andrew Webster been
telling you guys, all of the coaching staff. It's not
just him after last year to this year. What's been
the switch do you think?
Speaker 5 (00:48):
I think it's a connection piece that we've been hopping
on for probably since the start of season, our started
the preseason, and I think you're seeing the fruits of
all that hard work.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
And that's it's a bit of an individual buying thing.
You can't it's got to be authentic. You can't manufacture that.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
So I feel like that's that's where it's all started.
And you know, you touched briefly on last year, I
didn't feel like, yep, we do have to win games,
and that's a big part of playing an ROL and
I felt, you know, just just thinking real quick at
it was like five games that we lost, you know,
six points or less, and this year we've majority of
(01:31):
our wins have probably been six points or less. So
I feel like that's a big factor as well. And
we're definitely hitting in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
The second half. The ability to pick it up again
after basically dropping it for twenty twenty five minutes and
then coming back to win those final ones. That internal strength,
that kind of character, and that is huger than the
team because I know it keeps the fans engaged. Were like, no,
they're not gonna blow it. They're actually going to win
this damn thing. You must feel the same way, right chance.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
Yeah, we're we're sitting in those moments and it's probably
I've said on the on the same end as some
of the fans, especially that Broncos game in particular, was
on the sidelines and man's that's aha, I get what
all the fans are.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Thinking and feeling.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
We can well, most weeks.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
This year, and as a player, it's a lot different.
I feel like, you know, we're always in control. Even
that Raiders game that we recently lost, I still felt
like we were in control. And you know a few
moments go away and it's a different result. But we're
finding ourselves in those positions a lot.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Of the times this year and we're finding a way
to get the win.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
It's, yeah, turning it on when that occurs, as opposed
to going into panic mode. Not not saying you in
URL players panic, but sometimes you think maybe you do
so what you do in your own space around that,
how do you do it chance when it comes to
these close games, because you've experienced sitting in the stands,
you know, you know how horrible it is. So what
the process that you go through?
Speaker 5 (03:00):
Yeah, I guess my process is more buying into what
I think I bring to the team, and and that's
that's bringing energy, that's caring, well, that's chat, that's specific
chat and in that regards and just just honing into
into my strengths as a player. And you know in
those in those late stages, there all the times where
(03:24):
the pressure pressure gauge is on those other things I
fall back on and I just dive double down on
those things, and I feel like that's that's what's helping
me at the moment.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
You're doubling down on meters gained as well. It's phenomenal
what you've done. You a chance to sit back and go,
I ran for how far have you been running for?
Killing meters and killing meters?
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Chance? Yeah, sometimes sometimes I sort of when I uh,
probably that Rabbit O's game in particular, when I I
pretty much find out straight after the game because the
media guys come.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Up and and and let me know about it.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
I sort of had to sit back and wonder if
they were telling the truth or not, because sometimes the
flow of the game and you're just so present and
focused on what's going on there, you're not really thinking
about how much running you're doing. In a weird sense, yeah,
you're always going to feel tired, but in that time
and stage of the game, you're probably thinking, I'm tired
(04:21):
because we're having to defend or running around or yeah,
all sorts of other factors.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
You pick that game. I look back a couple of
weeks ago to when you guys like basically gutted the Sharks,
like two hundred and fifty odd run meters. I think,
grab yourself a line break you you were just running
it and the way that carried on, the way that
continued that last twenty minutes. So we're not letting this
get close. We're going to put the hammer down. And
that is a combined effort from everybody to know that.
(04:49):
You don't want to make us fans sit through that
stress again.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Chance, Yeah, it is. It is a team effort.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
It's an individual thing and it'll come back collectively if
we're all focused on that one what that one passage there.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
So it's all been falling into place for us, and we.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Know we're heading into the important part of the season
where things need to.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Continue to keep coming together.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
And for us, it's just about worrying about what we
what we bring to a game and what we bring
to each other individually and as a team, and and
focus focus on on the on training, training role and
that'll transition into the games.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
The experience from some of you older guys that have
left the team come back and again, you know what
the NRL is all about. Do you spend much time
with these younger guys, boring them to death with tales
of up and down because some of these young guys,
oh lord, what they're doing at the moment is terrifying.
They're like they've got several seasons under their belt. How
(05:46):
much of that is because you more senior men sitting
with his working with these guys.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
No, that's that's it's all on them.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
It's it's a funny one because you would think as
a senior player or an older player in the squad
now that you would have quite the I guess the
chat or the leadership around those boys. And you know,
they're just going out and playing and playing their brand
of footy and that's what's making them unique to our
team and that's what's getting them in the positions that
(06:14):
they get themselves in and you know, playing their best footy.
It's them worrying about what they bring to a team
and if there was anything that needed to be said
to them or is probably more around preparation, which they're
now in. Anyways, the boys are doing a really good
job there and the coaching stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I'm making sure that you know, everyone along.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
The squad once to thirty five is is doing a
really good job with their preparation because preparation is where
the games won and loss, and you can do that
before you get to the weekend.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
And I'm sure you're not. Well, they're not letting it
get to their head because people are. I mean, you
look at Lecquer in particular, and the energy abount him
for a young man, How is he processing this through?
Because this is phenomenal, bizarre, absurd.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, he's he's hard case, lecha.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
He's he showed the NRL and and everyone watching just
the type of athlete and and freak of a player
that he is. But he's also just finished school like
last year. So it's it's it's been hard case to
watch and been real Yeah, satisfying, I guess as a
(07:28):
teammate to see him grow into the athlete that he's becoming.
