Damian McKenzie returns from his hand injury to start for the Chiefs in Saturday's Super Rugby top of the table match against the Crusaders in Christchurch.

McKenzie's return pushes Josh Jacomb back to the bench after a fortnight in the starter's role at 10.

Wallace Sititi also starts for the visitors after two weeks off the bench in his return from a knee injury.

Crusaders coach Rob Penney has plumped for Rivez Reihana at 10 in place of Taha Kemara after his season long injury, allowing James O'Connor to retain his finishing role off the bench.

Hooker Codie Taylor caught up with D'Arcy Waldegrave to preview the clash.

Kick off is at 7:05pm - with live commentary on Gold Sport and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News talks 'B.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
They want a game of rugby tonight, the Crusaders in
their ice box hosting the Chiefs. Cody Taylor is one
of the Crusaders. He joins us now, good morning, Cody.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Hey, may's going very well.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Not as excited as you, guys. I'm sure this is
a huge match this evening. It's it's a home it's
up against the Chiefs, it's up at the top of
the table. You can't ask much more, can you? As
a player or as a fan?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
No, it's sort of the potential to be a really
big game for both teams. I suppose in the season
and the way the table's sitting, so it's pretty exciting
and look forward to it.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
You've got a flush all that though, don't you. You
can't look at the game and context or can you?
Or do you just look at it like this, This
is a team of men we've got to beat.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, so I look at another news own derby. You know,
you know how physical and mentally prepared you have to
be for these games, So then themself brings excitement. But
I suppose in the back of your mind, you do
have the other stuff going on and how and how
it may affect the rest of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Do you set yourself in a place where you try
not to think about that? Have you got like a
switch that you can turn and go just about the code?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I think, yeah, come come, kick off or even made
it today you're sort of forget about that because it
is just about the game, like you say, but probably
more and more so for the coaches to think about.
But yeah, as a as a player, you also do
have that in the back in mind, not so much
during the game, but leading up to it.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
There's some changes, and I suppose the big one for
you is Bragnina is back in the midfield. That this
is great news for the team, and I'm sure David
Helli is pretty stoked to have him there as well.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, he's had an unfortunate a year or two now
really and even like you saw what he did against
the fourth when he when he came back, and he's
a leader in the team, a really smart ruby player,
physical and excited to see how he goes tonight get
back out there.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
The physical is probably an understatement. What's he provided so
far is in training. Has he been looking now he's
back in the team again and starting.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Oh he hasn't lost the step, that's for sure, but
just his voice.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
But has he been turning you around? Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Is he Yeah, he's got a bit of toe, but
he's he's a voice. He talks on d which is
what we need. Has been a big growth theory for
our game. So to have him back it's going to
be huge.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
You've got a threat that's arriving back that I'm sure
the Chiefs have missed hugely. That has Damien McKenzie got
any plans for him?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Oh, he's a world class players. He's the right to
be called that. And he's a dangerous player when you
let him get his game going, and uh, you know
to not allow that. He's going to have his moments
as for sure, and so the rest of the team.
But for us, we're just going to do a job defensively,
make sure we sort of know iFly an an opportunist

(03:14):
that plays that he looks for and they'll go a
long way to helping us to be successful tonight.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
How do you guys work through the changes in man power?
It's very much a case of next man up. Someone's
down with injury, someone gets rotated. Is there much of
a difference in how you approach because you've got what
Antonio shell fohon back come and graces come back. You've
got to change it at first five eight too, have
you not? I think what have we got? Rivers? Rahanna

(03:41):
is in So there's a lot of adjustment there. How
does that interfere with your prep and your execution?

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I think we're lucky now that we've sort of built
a bit of depth within the squad. You know, in
the back of last year, a lot of those has
got opportunity, it's got a taste of what it's like.
And then they've put their hand up this year, which
is what you need if you want to be successful
as compident. Rivers just sort of stot into the Atlanta's
game and went really well. Antonia is putting his hand up.

(04:09):
His work rate's unbelievable in the field, and then Cully
was more of a rest and good to see him
get back out there. And he's an awesome man having
the line out around the park and he definitely lips
his shoulders that they're talking to.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
So let's give some praise to you guys or starts
up front, doesn't it. What a one two three combination
Fletcher Nule. Wow, the engine on that guy, the amount
of minutes he plays a prop and of course To
Mighty Williams with you right in the middle of him,
that must be reassuring when you jog out to the
middle to see those blokes next to you.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, they're not like in st I think Flick Flicky
old Flitch's. You're seeing the level of work rate that
he shows on the field and going deep into games,
and that's credit to him and the work he puts
on off the field. And then someone like Tom's is
just a bit of a freak really, his sighs, his

(05:00):
mobility and his ability to get around the park as well.
And then I get to sort of ye hanging between
them and try and do my thing as well. So
it's going to be a game one up front. But
in saying that, you know we've got the players, we
just have to do the job.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
You talk about freaks, and we know the soft hands
of to Mighty Williams has gott which is wonderful to watch.
But I think the freakish player you've got sitting with
a fifteen jumper that guy get the ball to Will
see what happens.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
He's playing great rugby as as you would have seen,
and his leadership on the field has been huged this year.
I think it's really helped his game grow and I
just understanding the way the game's going at the at
the time it is. And his voice. You know, this
one thing that our good fallback has got to have
as a demanding voice, and he doesn't lack in that area.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
So I reckon Noah the hot hand hotem being a
half back's got a big voice as well. You've mentioned
that Braden Enna won't shut up. You've got Will Jordan,
gard Hammer and Tongs as well in the pack. Who
makes the noise of anybody the pack?

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh the loss like the a bit, but that's their
job right there. Sort of flow ever on up and
get stuck in. But yeah, it's all good chuping each
other up at the end of that's what we do
on the field, and how we back each other up
that's gonna matter.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
So promises to be an epic game. The Chiefs Crusaders
matches always are around thirteen. It's a home game for
you guys. Just think this time next to you be
playing under a roof. That's another story. Make it count
at Orange Theory, Lean to and get it done. Five
plus seven Tonight Cheess Crusaders Gone be huge? Good on?

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Yeah, Cody, thanks for your time, Twousy, Thanks mate.
