Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk S'B.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Fourteen minutes to eight basketball action. It's almost constant with
the Seals NBL. It's all over the shop, but you
want to go and watch some live ball full thirty
the afternoon at the event Finder over on the North
Shore and that is where hosting is the Tour Tata
taking on the Rams from Canterbury and Dylan Wilkie, out
(00:34):
of the Tour Tata joins us now Goday.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Mate, morning man.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Massive game for you guys at this afternoon four point thirty.
They're Canterbury Rams. You've got to deal with them. And
this is after Is it fair to say you got
slipped up last week? You're still be a bit dark
about that, lost the first one in quite some time.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Yeah, I know, we you know, managed to pick up
five in a row. We were hoping to keep that streak,
you know, our live as long as possible, obviously, but
had not so great of a first half against the
Years and then it you know, it was hard to
come back from that.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
In the second. We tried our hardest, you know, only
fell by one.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
But yeah, bit things a little bit, so hoping to
pick one up this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Hold I'm one or a team makes a difference, right,
it's still the it's still the l.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I mean almost sometimes things more when it's just at
one point rather than it's ten.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
You know, I get you.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
What about Canterbary Rams, what do they bring to the gym?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
And we know at the moment they're lurking up near
the top of the table, aren't they. I think they Yeah,
they are, and they may go ahead if they can
roll you guys as well. So there's a lot of
energy on this because you know, Auckland Canterbury, it's a
wonderful rivalry.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Yeah, it's definitely, like you know, we've this team's got
a history of playing these guys in the finals, and
like you said, they're you know, they're really performing this
year at top of the table, just hanging around there
the whole season so far. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
You know, I think they've had our number for a
while as well. You know, we've we've like you said,
we had five in a row.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
We've been playing pretty well in formed since the pickups
of Rob Low, Dave O Hicky, So you know, we've
been looking good, so I think the Rams have definitely
had their eye on.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
This game as just as much as we had, so
I think it's important for us.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
We've we've played some good teams but only got really
one win against a top six teams. So this will
be a good, good display of you know, where we're at,
kind of coming around this mid season mark.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
So we're excited.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Dylan. It's super tight, isn't it. When you look at
the games one across the board and where these teams sit,
you gets throw a blanket between I suppose tour Tara
and fight maybe even you know the balls in there too.
It's it's been tight.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
No, it's been really good.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
I think the league this year is I mean, I
feel like this is said every year, but the league
is just getting more and more competitive. This might be
the most competitive it's been so far. So you know,
it's been awesome to see. It's led us some awesome
basketball being played. I know, I've been watching every game
with close and ten. You know, they're all interesting. There's
only been one or two games that you know you
can shut off a halftime because you know what's going
(03:04):
to happen.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Everything else is you know, it's up the until the final.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Buzz I wanted to shut off last week with the Rams,
but eventually they got their job done, didn't they. But
that was it was also tight. How's the conditioning? You
mean you got a full roster? You're waiting on any
injuries or oh.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Well, look we've you know, it is a long season
and bodies get banged up and stuff. But you know,
we're confident that we've got a nice deep roster, so
anyone can step up at any given moment if players
do need to, you know, take take that seat down
next to coach. So you know, we're excited and we're
still just getting started.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Don't want to make yourself. Tell us about your own form,
shooting guard. Where do you need to improve? What have
you got still in your quiver to get out? Do
you think?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, man, I've been really enjoying this year.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I've been working very closely with I feel like the
way the style of play that I, you know, play
and a Spider b is a lot like how he
was in his playing day, so.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
It's been really awesome to learn from him.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
So it's been a great experience for me getting out there,
getting to shoot the ball, especially play with a lot
of you know, older.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Seasoned veteran guys, guys like Rob Tommy v.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
You know, I've learned a lot about the game, but
definitely definitely just getting my toes in the water.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
And you just dropped out for two second? Two are
you talking about your model your game on cam Glynton?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I mean model my game after is a huge compliment
in him.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
But I would definitely say that I started to play
somewhat similar to how he was in his playing days.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Man, he got his absolute rock star, no doubt. I
like the way you said, well, you wouldn't really want
to cool Fordonovitch or low old, will you? But they are.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
No. I definitely tell them they older training. But let's
just go with the season veterans.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
That's nice. And where are you hitting? What's your path
looking like doing?
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Me?
Speaker 2 (04:51):
You're playing NBL now we're too What are you looking at?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Man?
Speaker 4 (04:56):
I'm just I've just been loving the game, loving the
opportunities has given me. So I just want to be
able to play as much as possible at the highest
level as possible for me.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
But you know, I.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Don't want to be taking everything year by year. I'm
still just trying to think take things day by day.
So I'm all worried about what I'm going to do
with basketball when I wake up tomorrow, let alone the
next few years.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
But I'm really enjoying it, loving what it's done for me.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
And finally, I believe you're involved in catching some nippers
as well. It's just a report is going to be
a bit back into the community, what a good thing
to do. Is this your drive or did you get
forced to do it?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's funny you say that.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Actually it kind of started with, you know, teams always,
you know, make you go involved with schools in camps.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
And originally it did start out kind of like a chore.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
But it wasn't until I was over in Australia playing
for a team and they were having me working a
school in the primary school, something I never thought I
would do.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Enjoy teaching, but it just became, you know, really enjoyable
for me.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
I started loving, you know, having an impact on kids lives,
being able to be a positive influence in the futures
of heaps of.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Kids, and what better way to do that than through basketball.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
So now that I'm back, I've been trying to get
my hands involved on as much coach as possible, you know,
out of probably three different places. I just love teaching
the game. Love think King's passionate about the same thing
I love. So you know it's been awesome.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
That is absolutely wonderful to hear it. Look, you know
that I'm born and bred in Canterbury. I can't get
that out of I back hitting game when I moved
up here a quarter of a century ago. But really
looking forward to a strong tussle. I know you guys
will be going that what happened last time around is
not us and you'll be looking to impress yourself upon Sure.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Man, We've had a big week of practice, you know,
trying to lock ourselves in and get ourselves right, fine
tuning all the small stuff. So now we definitely think
it'll be a good game. You know, we're not riding
them off, but we're confident in ourselves. It'll be a
good one.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Love that, Dylan Wilkie, thanks very much for your time.
May play hard.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Cheers, Thank you man.
