Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldegrave from News Talk SEDB Round nineteen.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It is of the NRL this weekend, and I think
it's fair to say the past month has seen a
few stuttering moments of momentum for the Warriors, a couple
of losses separated by a couple of buys, but they're
still holding fourth spot on the latter heading into the
weekend with ten wins from fourteen games, but of course
continuing to deal with more significant injuries, most notably the
(00:35):
fact that half back Luke Metcalf is now gone for
the season. In his place, Tanner Boys making his Warriors
senior grade debut in the seven jersey against the Tigers
at Mount smart Go Media Stadium tomorrow afternoon. It's head
into the Warriors camp and look ahead to this one Locke.
Aaron Clark joins me now morning to Aaron, Thanks for
(00:55):
your time this morning, and I guess it has been
a tough couple of weeks of injury news, hasn't it.
But on the same time, has it been nice having
a couple of buys to sort of recharge and in
particular get ready for tomorrow's game against the Tigers.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah, man, it's been good, but I think, like you said,
the last couple of weeks been tough, and the thing
with the buy, you just want to get out there
and redeem yourself kind of things. So it kind of
took a week to soak in and we kind of
really get out there. But we get to get the
chance to go out there this week and you know,
redeem ourselves, so which is good.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, And obviously a massive loss losing Luke a couple
of weeks ago, and with Tanner boys coming in to
steer the place, someone you're pretty familiar with, how's that
dynamic and the team been with the change, No, it's been.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
He's just swallowed and he's always Tender's just he's a
confident player and he's leaving the team around really well.
And obviously it was pretty sad news for Luke. But
I think the big thing we got to hear was
mixed man up and everyone can step up and fill
the role and do a job. And just super excited
for Tenner to be honest, and he's worked hard the
(02:00):
whole year and prepared us in our ou team the
best he could rust to go out then defend other
team shape. So yeah, just looking forward to him and
it's cool to share it with him.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, and a teammate of yours from the Titans last year,
so you'd have a bit of insight into into what
he's capable of. I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, me and him, I was the locker and he
was the half a few times, so I kind of
know him pretty well. And like I said, just excited
for him, him and his little family. He's got a
it's a good chance to move over here, so for
him to do it for himself and his wife is
pretty specious.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
So it is a fair ask of him, though, isn't
it him making that step up? So how do you
and the players rally around someone like Tanner who is
making that big step up like like this one I'm
going to see tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Man, I don't think someone like Tenna needs it, to
be honest. He's like I said, he's confident, he knows
his job, and he's been the voice at training, so
I think my voice is echoing at the back is
one second over. So it's something good luck with a
dominant half like him, and everyone just listens and does
their role, and he just picks and chooses when he
wants to also just make all our jobs easier.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
I guess great, how different could the playmaking look with
him at the helm now you obviously have a fair
idea of what he's capable of.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I don't think it would change much. We all run
the same shapes from use off World's Cup to us
and I will just add a little bits and pieces
here and there. And obviously Luke saw he's like a
quick player and he's he's off the cuff where Tenor
is more of an organizer. And yeah, he just he's
a natural half luck. Yeah, so I'm excited for him.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
And of course here are not just a new half
back this week, but another change at fall back two
in the form of Taine to old pig Key in
for Chance Nickel clock Star. I know it probably doesn't
directly impact you and the forward pack, of how much
of a significant change is that for the team? Do
you think as well?
Speaker 3 (03:51):
No, it makes no difference, to be honest. B doesn't
change old jobs, doesn't change anyone else's jobs. It's just
like I said, everyone's really ready to take the step
up as just when and those those boys got the chance.
So they'll take them with both hands and they'll do
their job.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
And the last couple of losses have been separated by buyers.
So it's been more than a month since your last
win over the Sharks. Does that make this one tomorrow
pretty important for you?
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah? We want to make this place of fortressy. All
our fans come out with Wayne Hill is shown and
they show us they care, hear about this team and
the directionness going. We want to repay them and obviously
RepA ourselves. You know, we started pretty well. Obviously we
dropped a couple, but I've never seen ana our team
(04:39):
have a perfect year. So we just got to get
our jobs right individually. And the result, what's the care
of Itself?
Speaker 2 (04:47):
And the Tiger's struggling about this season? Young team? What
from them can you look out for or capitalize on
to try and get the winning a game like this tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
I think they're just the young, the electric, a lot
of good players, and like I said, we just got
to individually turn up. If we get John's run, I
feel the result of take care of Itself.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And Delan Watson, he's alesnik. We were told her it
might be a wee bit longer until we see him
back from the ankle and jury, but seems like and
almost Superman style, he could be out there tomorrow. Has
has he been running around pretty well at training.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
He's your through and through professional Dell and he gives
himself every chance every week. I'm sure he tried to
play last week and he wasn't even there, so yeah,
I'll be happy if he's played, but we'll see. We'll
see that on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
And a big past week for the league with Origin
as well. Did you enjoy watching on as your team
Mat Kirk cap pull helps Queensland get the job done
over there?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, Matt, they dominated him. It was a good watch.
I don't really support any team specifically, so I just
enjoy watching him bush each other soon.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Love it, love it. And just on yourself here and
your your first season at the Warriors. Has it been
a move, you know, coming back over to the side
of the tasma that's that's been worthwhile for you, one
that you're happy you've made after after the departing the
Titans last year.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah. Mate, different kind of some new things about myself
moving back home obviously, the coaching stuff and the players
took me in and took me in with open arms,
and I still have a lot to learn, to be honest,
and they know that and I know that, and they're
slowly progressing me along to different systems. And I was
(06:26):
at the title for five years, so it's kind of
just like a whole new change. But I've got the
right support people here and the coaches and stuff, and
great bunch of boys. Brother, the most connected I've connected
team I've been a part of. So when you come
to work and you enjoy it, it makes life easier.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
So awesome. We'll good to hear erin and I know
a lot of fans star like to have you back
on the side of the Tansman as well. So Matte,
thanks thanks for chatting. Go well Sunday and all the
very best.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Thank you mate, thanks for having me and here appre
sure go on. Aaron.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Great to chat Aaron Clark. They're out of the Warriors
starting at Lock tomorrow. Yeah, interesting, isn't it for the Warriors?
The Luke Metcalf news. Yeah very challenging, isn't it. Losing
you're half back at this point of the season and
someone who's been a crucial factor and getting the Warriors
to that fourth spot on the table where they are now.
Tiger's sitting in fourteenth though, so yeah, it's going to
(07:18):
be an interesting game as the Warriors sort of get
back into a regular run of games after a couple
of buys. It's been interesting, you know, this past month,
hasn't it. After such an awesome start to the year,
It's just sort of just lapsed a bit the momentum,
hasn't it. So four o'clock kickoff and to go Media
Stadium in Auckland tomorrow. The Warriors looking to maintain that
(07:38):
top four spots. And just if you had an early
night last night, didn't stay up for the league or
the Sharks had a pretty good win for them. Twenty
four to twelve was the score over the Dolphins at
home for the Sharks and quite significant because it puts
them back in to the top eight. So other matches
today to look out for nights taking on the Storm
Dragons against the Roosters and Cowboys against the Bulldogs. Tough
(08:02):
game for the Cowboys there with the Bulldogs are doing
pretty well at this point. So that's how today's action
looks in at the NRL and that Warriors game at
four New Zealand Toime tomorrow in Auckland.
