Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk Zedbwait.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
As mentioned before by Jim Dolan, she's all go. The
NRL essentially gets under way when the NRL Indigenous All
Stars Game commences. The multi mean that the Indigenous players
from the West Island Cody Nico Rima out of the
Kiwi side that joins us.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Now get it mate, how are you by.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Very very well? What about yourself? Reasonably large game of
league looming? You must be really excited to be part
of this fixture.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yes, I am.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Always a great concept out of enter brought in with
this All Stars game.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
You know, we get to showcase our cultures.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
And yeah, I really love this week.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
So it's been great.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Do you think that it's gaining traction with every year
it's getting more and more important and ingrained in the
NRL culture.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, I believe so. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
You see the quality players who are now putting their name,
putting their hands up to play, especially some young guys
coming through.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
It's always awesome to get them involved.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
And you know, like I said again, just showcasing the
indigenous cultures and not only Maldies.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
But also the Aboriginals as well.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
It's been going for what I know must be ten
fifteen years now, Cody so plenty. It does have a
huge traction amongst the players and the fans as well.
Do you see it expanding any further?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Oh, look, I'm not one to comment on such things.
I understand that you know, people can take it, will
take it out out of hand. But what I will
say is us, as maldis, we love that we love
this game, and yeah, it just means so much to us.
So hence way you've seen, you know, so many players
put their hands up, and the previous years and obviously
(01:58):
this years are got.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
A Halla Halla team, no doubt. You just look at
your start number one, you fall back Calem Ponger, and
then the list just goes on and on and on,
and you're going to form what we think would be
a fantastic partnership with Chance Nicole Klockstad. So I like
the six and seven. And then you've got great players
right across the board who's been standing up and training.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Oh, I think everyone, to be honest with you, like
you said, there's a lot of quality players, a lot
of players of experience, and you know, I'm keen for
for Saturday's game, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
James Fisher Harris has been announced as a co captain
for the Warriors. Is he apparently he's not very talkative.
Has he said anything about that at all?
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Oh, well, he must be different when he comes into
this game because he doesn't he doesn't shut up when
he's in here.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
So obviously when he comes into these camps we get
the best out of him, which is good. So yeah,
what are you.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Talking about as far as tactics going or is it
not about that? It's just run tackle pass, run, tackle
pass and from a coaching perspective, what has to be
looked into.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
No, I think it was obviously over the years. This
is obviously a different game. It's different to n r
L and we want it to be that way.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Obviously.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
If you look on the other side, you know they're
very fast and they and they use that.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
They've shown that over the years.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
And for us, it's just about expressing who we are too,
as as mold as.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
We want to play, you know, out of the footy,
you know when.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
To offload it or will in spread the ball out
because we have some strikeout a way too. So hopefully
we can showcase that on the weekend and you know
it'll be an entertaining game.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
To the Riffs and the touches. Let it go a
little further, if you will. Then what happens in the NRL.
Maybe they're a bit more fast and loose with the rulings.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
I sure hope. So obviously, like I said, it's a
different game.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
It's a lot there's a lot more passion involved, obviously
from both sides.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
So hopefully the rest will allow some things.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Obviously rules are in place, but yeah, obviously they can.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
They have the whistle and you know, hopefully they can.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
They can let some little thing slide.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
So I we'll see Saturday.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
The serious scary thing for me and I'm sure all
fans of the NRL, as that shadow of injury. You
can't think that way because you will get injured. But yeah,
your clubs must be a bit sensitive around letting you
go hard out against your indigenous brothers ahead of the
NRL season proper it does represent a wee bit of
a danger, it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
It, I think, to be honest, whether you're playing state
league or Indigenous or for your club, I think whenever
you cross that white line, no one goes out thinking
that they're going to get injured, because if you do,
then you probably will. So yeah, I guess to answer
that question for me, the answers, No, I don't believe that,
(04:55):
or some sorry, some some clubs may think that. But
us as players, every day we cross that white line.
We can we can get injured. We can get injured
at training.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
So I'm not too sure.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
I some clubs are hesitant to let their players play.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
I'm fifty five of the bad knee. I could get
injured getting out of bed, so I really shan't throw
things like that at Yeah. And as far as the
opposition and the indigenous side, who do you look to
who's one of the I mean, there's potent weapons everywhere,
but there's a particular individual that you may be locked
in on going watch them.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Probably my my teammate back from Club Land the Hammer,
see first hand how good he is with the footy,
and if you give him time in space, yeah, he's
pretty fast. He's probably the fastest in the in the
comp or one of so yeah, he certainly won there.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
We'll have to look out for for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
And for those who don't know he's talking about him,
So to b il Fido and he is quite something
else as the hammer codin Niko Rima thinks, so much
for joining us, play well, play fair, play hard, enjoy
yourself and thanks for joining us here on news Talks.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
He b thank you very much for.
