Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk sedb NA Kiwi.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
That's the Kiwi's back in action. It's coming up tomorrow,
third round of the Pacific Championship. They're taking on Fonger
at Eden Park Sunday afternoon. That's a stretch. Well, I
suppose it's daylight savings, so if it's still light, it's
the afternoon's around six o'clock that game. Looking to make
it two from two from the competition. Looking toward a
(00:33):
rematch with Some one the final next weekend. Remember they
beat them in a pulsating game of football twenty four
to eighteen in round one. Long though, looking to bounce
back after getting hammered by some wur last weekend thirty
four six. Matt to morcle is a center for Nakiwi
and for the Raiders in the NRL. It joins the
(00:54):
show now to preview the match up. Good morning, Matt,
How are you good mate?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah? Not so bad? Looking forward to tomorrow evening at
six o'clock on a Sunday's a strange stone to play
a game of rugby league. But like I suppose you've
got the Black Judsey or the White v You'll play
at three in the morning, wouldn't you What, timing doesn't
matter as long as you're representing.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, that's set and it's on. The Black Jersey always
keeps to show up.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
What are we expecting from this tongue inside that have
managed to Well, they've got the Barnstorm and Tomololo back
in red as well aside him, who else you looking toward?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
But I think everyone. You know, they got pre strike
all over the park and of the obs. You know,
they've got a lot of pace on the obs and
obviously the middle is huge and very skilful as well,
so they're going to look to you know, they're obviously
going to look to come out firing, especially after last week.
You know they would have been disappointed, but yeah, excited
for the match up and can you get out there?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
So when you pull that game apart where when they
did actually get flushed, was there anything key out of
that that yourself, the other players and the coaching stuff
and Stacey Jones and the like are found out from
that game, Any any idea is going to carry with
you into it.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Look, we've just got to be switched on for eighty.
You know, you can't let know the tongues have a
stiff because, like I said, they've got strike all over
all over the park, so they'll pull us apath. We
let them get a roll in us.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
What about your own form after that smone game? Gee,
I tell you what. Talk about the last minute. That
was scary, but you were taken a lot out of that.
What are the puzzleives? What are the negatives?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah? Definitely mate. You know, I really really enjoyed that game,
and it was a tough game to come back from
after a couple of weeks lay off. You know, jeez,
the lungs and the lungs were hurting. But yeah, you know,
those are the time of games that you love.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yah.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
There's grinding kind of stars of football games, especially when
you win, you know, because it's a lot of you
take a lot of confidence out of that. And I've
definitely taken a lot of confidence out of that game,
and you know the way we've attacked and defended, and
like I said, I'm just keen to kind of get
out of this weekend and do it again.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, many other players were a bit gassed after a
bit of the layoff. Were you all feeling the pain
in the last twenty.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I think everyone was kind of everyone was kind of
especially Old Fuzzle for Fellow. Yeah, like I said, it
was a good Those are the games you love to
be a part of it. Yeah, it's definitely gonna be
another one this weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Are you picking on the old guy and the team
you are you in and give them fourign grief that
I love them service, don't you?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah, get for the early ball.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Have you played against the Tongue in your past and
the handful of testing played for the Kiwi.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yep, we played them last year in the Pack Champs.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Wow, and playing that tongue and team and the last
game I went and saw the tongue of Kiwi player
a couple of years ago. I just couldn't get over
the crowd. I don't think there's more ferocious crowd than
the Tongue crowd. Those guys are insane. They love they
love the game, they love their team.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, they're definitely loud and they bring a lot of energy,
and you know it's definitely that team definitely feeds on
you know, the energy and the crowd gives them so
obviously expecting another red seat to be out there, on Sunday,
but you know it's going to be a fiery battle
and yeah, like I said, just looking forward to getting
on the field.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
A couple of new guys have been folded into the
team after some injuries. Zavi Willison is gonna debut in
the side. This guy's a bit of a weapon. What's
he been like in the in the lead up to this,
because he'd be an excited character.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
He's been good man. Yeah, obviously we've seen the form
that he's shine in Brisbane. You know, won a Grand
Final with with that team and you know he's had
an awesome season and it's definitely been a reason behind
their success. And it's good to have him on our
side because man, he's he's a big boy.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
He wantn't have to tackle. Look and see him on
the TV and he looks bigger enough from there. What
about the other guys rolling and you've got tonight he's
coming back into the into the scene again, isn't it.
So that'd be great for him.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, obviously, you know he's had a few up some
downs over the past couple of years in terms of
his injuries and off field kind of stuff. But it's
good to see him back in the space. I mean,
he got up and had a chat to the boys,
just to let him know how excited he was to
be back. And you know, we're all excited for him
to and i'd be back in this in this Jersey
(05:23):
and to represent his family and the nation.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
So what's the trick to having a big break for
a few weeks, coming back and playing and then you
get another break before you come back and play again.
That can't be the most pleasant thing to deal with.
On turning on and turning off. You're in a good
place physically and mentally.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Yeah, well, I'm not too sure. The last couple of
the last couple of the last couple of pack chaps
we've kind of went straight through with had three in
a row. So this is kind of new territory for us.
But you know, we've we've had a really good training
week at the moment. And Yeah.
