Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Tonight, super rugby action that lands in christ Church. The
Crusaders are hosting Moana Pussfica Crusaders in some pretty scary form.
Currently we're Jordan now By, a new halfback in the
sight is a new combination nine and ten. His name
is Noah Hotham.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Good morning though, Hey, good morning Darcy.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm very good ripped for tonight. The big difference I
suppose for the Sads up against Moana Pussifica. James O'Connor
comes in at ten. I'd suggest that is overdue. But
the combination between you and him, how's that been shaping up?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Oh, it's awesome, it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Plast's a old head, old wise head, and he's still
got young legs in him, which is awesome to say.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Did he give much advice? Because it's part of the
reason he's there. He kind of like gives you guys
all the lessons he's land. Have you picked anything major
up off them?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Um?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Nah. He's just got a good balance, a good balance.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
He's quite spiritual, pretty chill guy and just goes about
a day like anyone else.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
So yes, he keeps a level head, which is nice
to have.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
He came out of last week, I expect with huge
broad grins with the way you managed to roll road
the Blues in all aspects. There's the good stuff. What
about the bad stuff? Was Rob Penny up seat by
anything at all?
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Ah? Look, we didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
We didn't finish the game as well as we wanted to.
But you got to give it to the Blues, you know,
they started to crawl back in and build some pressure.
But at the end of the day, yeah, we got
the result we wanted to build for another week and
one is a good side and we've got to respect
and they got some bloody quality players and put some
(01:58):
teams to the sword.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
You're more one interesting in the fact that they kind
of they really they don't hit the ground running toward
the beating. They start pecking things up. I suppose it's
consistency that they've got to look for.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
It.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Is there any area that you look to maybe expose
in the way they play the game now?
Speaker 4 (02:15):
No, I think I think we're more focused internally about
how we can build pressure and use our kick as
a weapon. Yeah, because they got some big bodies, They
got some good ball cares and some fast feet. So
just going to make sure that we're playing the rights
of the field.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
What do you want to eradicate to them? What do
you want to emphasize from your performance last week?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, last week it was just real grateful to be
back up there. It was my first time being injured
for so long, and it was more just finding my feet.
You know, it's awesome to go up to eat and
Parker a win and find my feet for the short
thirty minutes setting off the beats. But this week, I
guess just expressed myself for fun and me and Jock
hopefully have a good combo that we can put out
(02:59):
and come.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Away with when Jock James O'Connor right, it's always nice
finding it. Or the nicknames? So what do they call you?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
What they call me?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
You must have had a nickname? Do they call you
hot hand ho them or anything like that?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (03:15):
No, some called me the No, some have called me.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yeah, I don't know, don't really have any. You got
any for me?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah? It's I reckon hot hamd ho them. I reckon.
We're running with it until I have a shaker. Then
you can be cold hand ho them, but I wouldn't never.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I've got a few hot I've got a few hot hams.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Before there you go where you went all over that? Uh,
the feeling in the Crusaders camp right now because last
year I think train wrecks a polite term, but it
was horrible. But the way things have turned around this
time around, what do you think is the main driver
behind that? Because I know that Rob was under a
huge amount of pressure to be shifted by the board
(03:54):
by Colin Mansbridge, but they stuck to their man. It's
paying dividends.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yeah, yeah, I guess it's like as they say, you know,
flowers need a little bit of rain to get going,
and that's just been the same with us. You know,
it was a tough year last year and we had
lots of learnings, but a's not one person's doing. It's
it's a collective thing and we've.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
All come in this.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Ye're hungry to be better, hungry to go and we've
started well.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
But there's still plenty of seasons ago.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
With round seven and it's been a vibrant competition this far.
Are you like a code here? Do you spend a
lot of time watching the game as well as playing
it or not.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Well, it's the jobs that you kind of have to be.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Well, you're going to do quite a night and do nothing,
but you do you do engage?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
We watch a lot of films where you've got to
make sure you know your opposition and review our games thoroughly.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
But I guess outside at home, not really.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
You get so much footy when you're at work or
at Rugby Park that you don't really want to be
watching rugby at home, watch the league sometimes or just
read a book, you.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Know, decompress, very very important. I got to ask about
the book reading. What do you like? Is there a
particular genre that you work with? Non fiction? You're like
a detective.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I like to read a couple at a time.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
I'm reading Dan Carter's autobiography at the moment, another one
called Celestine Prophecy. A bit of variety, you know, some autobiographies,
fiction and nonfictions, just depending on your mood on the day.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Reading two books at the same time that I like.
And you did touch on the league. I'm presuming you're
a Waves fan, but do you like any other the
Australian teams at front up week by week.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, I maketually a Broncos to bordera.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
My grandparents and lots of my family live over in Brisbane,
so my part of my mom's dad he's a big
Broncos supporter, so I've been a Bronco supporter ever since.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Nice stick that way as well. And one last thing
for it. No, you're you're born and bred in the
what cut the one? You're a Hamilton kid?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Correct? How does that translate playing in Canterbury because it
used to be a big Auckland Canterbury thing, but now
it's not. It's all about the Crusaders first, the Chiefs.
There's a not necessarily rage, probably respect, but she's a
pretty hard ass confrontation. But in those two teams, do
you feel guilty?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Nah? It's awesome, as we call it down here.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
It's origin time, you know, when weavers to chief its
origin mate versus mate, state vers state and those are
the battles you want to be playing.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Get it done. Five past seven tonight up against the
Mouna Pacifica. It is a home game. You'll have a
massive crowd. You're tracking, so so well, get that hot
hand out, hoth them. Enjoy yourself, mate, We'll look forward
to catching up soon.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Now it is nice, it's nice, nice to talk to you.
