Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waltergrave from News Talks Be.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We're joined now by Peter Umo Jens and good morning Peter,
so Man. Yeah, not a great deal. I hadn't traveled
halfway across the planet. How was the flight? How did
that go for? It is something you look forward to,
you cherish your wire.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, it's not too bad. I guess it's just all
of the job. Pretty lucky. Like I got to my
fiftieth on the weekend and got to be on the
business kind of side of the off the airplane, and
it was just lucky to have put the luxury in there.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
And yeah, did you know about that or do they
just lop it on you when you turned up to
the flight?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah? When once they named the squad that was leaving,
usually just checked the enders on and and it was
it was right there, the seat numbers and yeah, the
business flight. So it was kind of it was cool.
It was a cool, little surprising.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Did anyone travel up and up when you turn left
with you or was it just you?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
No? No, just I know a couple of us, but
ten of us got to be in the business there,
most mostly with all the experienced players and guys over
fifty and Brad Shilters he's over one hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Now, so let's talk about last week before we look
forward to this Perth game, nine thirty five New Zealand
time on Saturday night. You booking, did that? I tried?
Towards the start, I think, well eight nine ten minutes
maybe not very long, and then you scored within ten
minutes of the end too, so the two ends work well.
Tell us about the middle when, like just after you scored,
(01:35):
the Crusader's hit back with a couple of quickies. What
do you think fell apart?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I guess just a couple eras in both parts of
the game, and for defense in attack, just just an attack,
so I just kind of errors and leave pitches that
we didn't mixcute well enough, and just on our defense
kind of just missing rolls and kind of just little
learnings on the go that we can that we can
(01:59):
do better. So it didn't help that there was mostly
just in the middle bit of the game and you're
still going into the half that it was quite quite
a long. I guess it was like thirty one ten,
I guess at that time, but it was all kind
of just easy fixes and we kind of got to it,
probably too late in the game for us to get
prostigat that. You're all get that one.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
What about the Force? What do they present? Things change
week by week by week, and plainly their coaches are
working on the fly. They're going todentify your holes and
adjust for that, and you'll focus a lot on what
you can do as opposed to what the opposition bring.
But if you ignore what they present, you're in serious trouble.
So what do we know about the Force?
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, it's kind of good that we've we've had quite
ad dress rehearsal of I've already had a dress rehearsal
of how the Force played with the Crusaders are quite
similar and what they present and real dominant in the
attack game with their first three phases, I've played the
real creative and they've got a lot of options to use,
and they were good playmakers with the ten twelves and
(03:04):
and then nine with the experience of the nine required
and yeah, they're shown how they can use the ball
and they're produced some pretty good tries and they go
I think they've got the top rascal at the moment
of the design and so yeah, it's just kind of
it's kind of good that we've had the street suher
so that we can be better in this area and
kind of prove prooved to our defensco so we can
that we listen and can trust us trust his word.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
And yeah, hey, you're going to have three of your
quartette of captains on the park, Suffle, bread and dupes.
They're all out there. Who do you listen to?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
At least all of them. All of them kind of
have a kind of know the no win to say
something and no we're not to so and I guess
with how they leaders suffer and Billy lead of the
actions and when they do chumming you kind of what
they what they say is kind of real, I guess
rare at the time, but it's real, kind of special.
And then stoops and and bread they're kind of always on.
(04:03):
So they lead and they're exactly the same they loaded
there and they know what to say in those moments
and kind of thinking the same thing at the same time.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
But one last thing, Peter, before we let you go,
You've got and something this is we thought was going
to happen last week and say, well, I mean the media.
You've got a rubin love playing inside of you. Thought
that had happened last week. Just tell us about your
relationship with Ruben and your expectations around what he will
bring to that pivot role.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, before well, I know, and you get to play
for we can to to my rugby club, beck and
why we home club and still cherish is that? Yeah?
I guess I've seen him grow as a player since
he's left school and he's come straight into the one
to Lions and the Earth, came into the hurricane system,
and I guess you see what he brings. He's just
(04:53):
pretty let your phone on his attack, and he's getting
better with being confident and speaking to the team, and
this week he's just gonna you just got to beck
him and just yet back what he says and kind
of make it make it comfortable for him to kind
of lead the team and then help him out as well.
So it's not always just a big burden on the
on the ten shoulders. I guess people kind of think
(05:16):
it is like that, So it's just on the whole
team to kind of make it happen and to trust
his trust twenty calls and trust what he wants to do.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
So it's all about everybody. As you said, it's a
fifteen man plus the blokes on the bench, so if
you put it all on one guy, it's manifestly unfair.
But let's see if you can pull it apart and
get it done. Nine thirty five up against the Force.
Thanks very much for joining us, Peter with a monk
and Jens and you look after yourself.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
And your cheers.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Mante, no worries.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
It's not bad a play fifty games. You can right
up front. One of these days, I swear it might
be another lifetime actually, so be it. Twenty five past seven.

can catch that game Hurricanes Force nine thirty five tonight
on go old Sport. The Chiefs taking the highlights on
(06:09):
at five past seven and the four thirty five game
is Muana Pacifica v. The Brumbies and the Crusaders. Last
night played a fantastic game of rugby against the Blues
and an Even though I'm a Red and Black fan,
olden of minded if the Blues had won that game.
It was so engaging, awful weather, perfect for rugby coming
(06:32):
up next, you know, I'm still a fan of women's
rugby and I'm not gonna stop banging that drum. I've
got a rather large drum to bang.
