Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildgrave from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Average start for the Breakers so far. They won the
pre season Blitz, but hasn't really transferred to the regular season.
Two losses to start off so far. Trying to turn
it tonight get the first one of the seasons as
a very old and wonderful rivalry themselves in the Perth Wildcats.
Rubin Tarangi, shooting guard co captain of the Breakers, is

(00:33):
with us now to discuss how the team are faring
and preview this game coming up the later tonight.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
A Ruben, Hey, Darce, how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm very well. I'm looking forward to the Breakers advancing
a little more from the start of the season. I
say it with a smile on my face because I
know you guys have got it. It's been a rough
old start for you crew, hasn't it.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah, it has.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
I think you know it's not the start we want,
but I think we've had a good week of training
this week and hopefully come out tonight and have a
good game.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So as far as what's gone on with the execution
and what have you looked at? What has Coach Kopp
been trying to focus on to turn those results around.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Obviously, like we've had a little bit of sickness go
through the team, and I think we're just not clicking
at all cylinders. We like to play a fast style
of basketball, and you know, we kind of just got
to get.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Back to that, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
So it's all about speed and execution, which is, yeah, typical.
It's been like that for the Breakers for a long time,
has it or is this a new push for you guys.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
I think that is won a CoP's style of play,
Like he really wants to play that way and play
fast because obviously we have one of the fastest players
in the league, Parker jacking car right, and you know,
I think it plays in our hands and I think
teams will struggle to keep up with us.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I talked to Roblow about him last week and see
what's he like. To guard him as impossible, especially when
he's that big rob Blow just disappears under your legs
and goes around the corner. This guy is a wonderful
representation of the game can be for all shapes and sizes.
It's not just about big long the kids. He's a
huge advert for the game isn't he.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, he is.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
I think he does a good job of, you know,
finding his spots, and I think a lot of kids
can learn a lot from him, even if you are
a big player.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
He sees the game differently and does.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
He's a good player to watch, and I think that's
why the fans come down to the games.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Wildcats quite the opposition that there's storied history, isn't it
between the Breakers and the Cats? It's always been big energy.
I don't think anything's changed. Did you believe it has or.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Not at all?

Speaker 4 (02:32):
I think playing back when the Breakers in the Wildcats
when the finals so often, I think, you know, it's
always good to go up against him, and I'm sure
a lot of the fans feel that way as well.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I'm just winding my dodgy memory back. Was it beast
Mode Mecavacona that broke their hearts and their own gym
a number of years back?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
I would have been Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I mean MCA had a lot of players like that
that killed the Wildcats.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
But yeah, whendn't they come from that far away because
it's a long Trip's a dog of a trip, especially
for you big guys who will want the exit row
or first class or something which no one can afford.
How much of an advantage does that give you or
is it now a situation of like they're so used
to it, it doesn't matter anymore.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I think both the Wildcats and the New Zealand Breakers,
I feel like, you know, we do pull the short
shot of the travel but I think like both teams
do a good job of not focusing on that and
just moving forward with the game. I think, you know,
they're going to be a dangerous team whether they're traveling
or not traveling, So we definitely have to put our
best foot forward this game.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
The way basketball rosters change, and they do it every year,
sometimes a couple of times in the year, but it's
a constant, the ability for you guys to fit in
straight away and to actually work out where you don't.
You don't have teen games to work out where you sit.
All the guys have got to be on the same
page pretty fast. How's that operating?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, it's like I feel like we're still learning.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Obviously, Rob Dake came in a little bit later into preseason,
so we're still learning how he plays. Obviously had a
good shooting night the other night, but yeah, I feel
like our team is a whole, are very adaptable and
we can you know, fit in where other players are deficient.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I guess our's life with the new regime, the broom
was sweat. There's a return of a lot of the
old school. They've come back in various levels into the
Breakers management and the like. Is this a feeling like
home again, do you think, Reuben?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, I mean it really does.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Going into the Breakers every day, it does have that
family vibe and everyone enjoys being around the club and
being in at the Breakers facility and that Yeah, you know,
that goes a long way when the end of the
season comes around and you go in and see people
you like.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
You know, culture one of the biggest things in any
team sport, and I'd like to think that's being accelerated
within the camp right now. This has got to be
one of the You've got about to play the game plainly,
but that family connection that you all have is so
important for this club.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
It is it is. I think the fans feel it
as well. You know, we want to be a family
club and have everyone involved in but also also playing
the right way and playing as hard as we can
for the fans as well and your our own form.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
How are you feeling about what you're providing out there
on the deck.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
I feel like I'm going well, obviously coming back from sickness,
but I think I can do better, a lot better.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
That's good. The harsh task master, always your own worst enemy.
Don't stop, Ruben. Thank you very much for joining us.
You know how hard it is not to roll the
R in your name when I say Ruben Tarangiet. I'll
get there eventually, Rubin. Thanks for your time. Boss. You
go well tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Appreciate it.
