Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk z'b wait.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Richard Agar, assistant coach of the Warriors.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good morning, Darcy, are very good, looking forward to you
tuning things around at five o'clock this afternoon. Have you
guys managed to sit with what happened against the Panthers
and work out what the hell happened? Because that punched
us all on the nose, didn't it? Richard?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Well, I didn't. I didn't think there were anybody internally
that thought we wasn't going to be in for a
tough game. I think you know, you look at the
team sheet and the five Origin players not there. You know,
we two Origin players not there too. You know, Rock
or Berry were out of our team. We lost Maratha
really early with some quality players not in our in
our top seventeen that weren't weren't end the other night.
(00:57):
But I think there were parts of our game that
I think we've done really really well all season, like
really well, yeah, we didn't do them well. The other night.
We didn't do them well, and you know, eventually we lost,
you know, we lost the possession the territory. We lost
the possession battle by a significant amount. I think, you know,
(01:20):
anybody who watched the game, there's some really big momentum
swings in there, and big momentum swings I think just
by us not not nailing our job as well as
we have been doing.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Sorry, it doesn't help when someone gets dropped eckled like
what Sorenson did and oh mate, d w Z's not
there this week and high ankle spray. But things like
that early loss of Maratha, that that that's not going
to help. That's not going to be constructive.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Yeah, now, there are a few things went wrong, a
few things in terms of losing Marata. I think what
a blow. I think, you know, once we lost Allen
and we sort of had to shuffle the decks a
little bit, you know, and lost lost a bit of
rotation on on interchange. We had a fair amount of
inex hearings out there. But it's not excuse I think.
(02:07):
I think the bottom line in what I served as well,
when we have had people out of our team and
we have had to move about during games, is you know,
we have nailed certain areas of our game that has
always put us in with a shout and put us
you know, in close games, you know, kept us in
right till the death. And as I said, we didn't
(02:29):
do that. You know, there were a couple of big
moments in the games, so I think the big momentum
swings for us. I'll give you some examples. You know,
we had an opportunity to score down in the far
right corner, it got intercepted and they scored on the
back of it. You know, we we had a couple
of moments where I think our kickchase and drilling teams
into corners has really helped us with possession and position
(02:51):
this year. And a couple of times, you know, we
go in good positions and just miss a tackle on
play one or or we let a line break out
from dummy half and that, and I think they were
what areas that look, it's no excuse. So we just
didn't get it done well enough on the on the now.
And you know, as I say, I won't buying into
the fact that Penriff were coming here with an understrengd team.
(03:15):
There were, But at the same time, when you look
at the starting pack, it will full of internationals and
guys that have won premierships, and guys that will you know,
experienced season NROL campaigners, so I thought I thought, yeah,
there'd be some some challenges for them. But at the
same time, we played them with Magic Weekend last year
in very similar circumstances. You know, we lost players all week,
(03:36):
we went with an understrength team, and the enthusiasm and
commitment we played with that night overrid everything. And you know,
I don't think looking at Penriff and now they've played
is what we need to be sort of, I guess
looking in our assessment in the game, we need to
see what we didn't do well, what we've done well
all year, And yeah, it stood out it were a
(03:59):
pretty easy review, Darcy. Really, I think I think we knew,
the players knew, and it's important that we get back
to doing the stuff that we know gets us in
the contest and wins games.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
So this afternoon, you're looking at the Broncos and that's
that's strong. I mean, you look Shibasaki, Arthur's men, Reynolds, Staggs,
Walsh and that's it's just the backline. And you've got
that monster has floating around as well. Karrigan's in there.
Two I'll beat you, don't focus too much on them though, right.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Look, first and foremost will focus on ourselves. But it
goes with that saying they've got some threats. You know,
certainly ree Walsh. You look, Reecee Walsh is one of
them players and there's a few in the competition that
you could put any plan you want in place to
try and negate Reese Walsh. But he's you know, he's
so gifted and quick that he can find a way
(04:58):
to under the best defense, you know, if you give
him that time space and opportunity. And I think we
saw last week with we're paying harsh as times when
he's carrying the ball and he starts generating speeding offload,
that yeah, he can be really hard to handle. But
they're a good team. You know, there's no doubt personnel
lives and talent wise, you know, they're right up there.
(05:19):
They've had some I guess streaky patchy form if you like,
at certain times, but they're on the back of a
couple of good wins the fifth in the camp and
it's a very tight comp and you know, I think
that tells you all you need to know really, So yeah,
we know we'll need an improvement on last week, but
we're also confident that we've done that. I think, you know,
(05:40):
it's it's unrealistic to think you're going to go through
the whole of the season and not hit a couple
of verdals or you know, get a little set back
here and there. But I think it's how you react
and how you bounce back to it. And you know,
I think our guys are very honest, very accountable. Know
our game. I think that's important. They know what our
(06:01):
game looks like, and yeah, just important we get it
on this week and we're.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Looking forward to that five o'clock this afternoon, New Zealand time.
It's four the five. You gotta we break on them
while we're sitting in fourth Broncos setting it in fifth
should be a good looking forward to erasing the memories
of last week because I don't think any of us
particularly happy. Richard Agar, thanks for your time, mate, go well, no.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Worries, Darcy, good to chat mate always as cheers Bratt.
