Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talks EDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We are talking Breakers basketball consecutive victories for the first
time at this season. They beat the Kings on Wednesday
night in Hamilton clutch work from PJC. We go now
to a man called Rob low Center for the Breakers.
They're playing Spark Arena tonight. The Tasmania Jank Jumpers are
their opposition. Let's talk about that now, a Rob, How
(00:34):
are you mate? Good?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Darcy?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
How are good? Thanks? Rob? Not as good as you, blokes.
So you finally did two on the bounce, and tonight
you have an opportunity to go three in a row
up against the jack Jumpers of an evening at Spark Arena.
So tell us about the relief amongst the team when
you finally manage to string together consecutive victories.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, I think it's just just released of the hard works,
kind of starting to pay off a little bit. You know,
we're doing all the work and we finally get two
on the trot and hopefully we can make it you tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Tough years so far Robin coach Corbyn mentioned that the
other teams have I suppose jailed earlier. They've been together
for a long time and you've got that situation sorted out,
whereas the breakers have taken a long time to come together.
And that's the nature of basketball. You guys change franchises,
change countries all the time. Surely the ability to gell
in a hurry is primary. So can you explain to
(01:30):
us how come the team haven't managed to come together
like that over the four quarters.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I think it's the nature of the league as well.
It's some teams that have been together for a while,
you know, they always come out come out the gate hot.
But the most important thing is just keep improving throughout
the season and keep getting better. You know, I think
we're we're doing that. We're putting the working on the court,
and you know, we're still positive that we're going to
(01:56):
end up in the playoffs. I think that's the most
important thing, is just keep getting better and keep improving.
The teams that you know come out the gate hard
and and they plateau a little bit. You know, that's
what you don't want to be.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Your imports are starting to fire as well, although I
don't think that PJC pak Jackson cart right, and it
hasn't fired. What he did a couple of nights ago
was fantastic. Having an import like that on board, this
is huge for the side.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, I mean he's a quality players, proved it for
the last well how many years, for years or something.
You know, he's great to have as a teammate and
a great person as well.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Kareem Mopi is looking good as well. We know that
he's a quality player. It's taken a while. How do
you think he's developed over the course of this season
to date?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, you know, he had a tough offseason as well
with an injury, and you know he's he's finding his rhythm,
came by game and getting stronger and stronger. And you know,
one of the boys, one of the other boys has
been injured since the start, came to practice last week
and came to me after practice and like, Kareem's gotten
so much stronger since since I was last playing. And
(03:03):
that's a testament to him. He's growing as a as
a person, you know, as a young athlete, and he's
just getting better and adding to his games. So yeah,
he's just leaves and bounds getting better.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You'd remember developing physically and mentally as you carried on
playing basketball. What Kaream's going through right now. It's quite
the jump, isn't it. It's from essentially a youth to
a young man. A lot of change in that space.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yeah, it was tough for me, don't I can't speak
on what he's going through right now with his expectations
and his desires for the future, but yeah, it's tough.
And you know, we're such a strong league that it's
hard to come in as an eighteen year old or
seventeen year old and you know, do what he's doing.
(03:52):
So that's awesome to see.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Hey, rob our healthy is the roster right now.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
We've had a few injuries in the last week with
a couple of guys with toolbacks and some practice guys,
but overall we're pretty happy, healthy, happy and ready to go.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
With these injuries, you've had to get some new guys
on Dick and one of them is old school Tie Webster.
When's he going to suit up?
Speaker 3 (04:17):
I do believe he's suiting up against Tazzy. Yeah, he's
great to have back around. You know, his energy. You know,
I've played with him since since we were kids. It's
cool to see him again and you know, welcome back.
To the breakers, and you know, I'm excited to work
with him on the court as well.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Since you were kids. How long how.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Old I've known them? We went to school together, So
I've known Corey and Tye since since I was like
ten or eleven quite a while.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
You guys are doing well on the income competition, the
Ignite Cup. You must have been talking about this because
you're right at the top and there's a whole lot
of money at the end of this. The rainbow pot
is massive.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
No, it's definitely a top of the conversation for sure,
but it's it's just an extra reward for you know,
getting wins. You know that they're important for us to
get a little reward at the end of the season,
but it's also important for us to get wins and uh,
you know, put put it on the proper table and
and try and make the playoffs for the finals as well.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
And what about the opposition tonight, the jack Jumpers, what
do they bring to the floor.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
They're always a physical team, and and they're going to
come out and try and hit first and and you know,
do all those those little things to get themselves ahead.
So we've just got to match their their energy and
their intensity and and you know, execute against their pressure.
So we're looking forward to the challenge and we're excited
(05:45):
to get another
