Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDBE.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Forty five and the All Sport Breakfast. Still waiting for
our Jerome Pampalone to climb into the ring. I think
he's a fight or so away. I'll keep you up
to date with that class. A couple of texts for you.
Tell me, Darcy, you're watching the black Caps. We're on
what channel? It's on three? Now You've got to go
to the app and then go to Live Sport or

(00:34):
Live Coverage and you can find it there. And another
character says, look, they really shouldn't have had the South
African Sea team that came here a couple of years ago. Either.
I gave up watching New Zealand cricket after that. Right,
let's move on. We're talking race cars now super cars
kee we Ryan Wood joins Snagy day ryanod Darcy.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Thanks for having me on again, mate.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, no, all good looking forward to this weekend. Ipswitch
a place you've had little experience at what you've pushed
around there? What in a fast VW back in the day.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, I've had a little bit of experience here, just
a Porsche and stuff like that. But yeah, it's a
technical little track and since I've been there last I've
had some yeah upgrades with some new reseals and spots,
and then also a lot of the venues been revamped

(01:31):
as well thanks to Tony Quinn. So excited for us
to get there and see what it's all about.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Tony Quinn's got along reach, hasn't he is there a
place anywhere in Australasia. He hasn't got his face and
do what?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, I'm not too sure, but I tell you what.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
He's had a lot of impact on a lot of
tracks and a lot of people's careers. So yeah, it's
cool to have a couple of Supercars races at his
tracks this year, obviously Topor and then here at QR.
So yeah, should be good and hopefully we can put
on a show. Yeah, bring back some good racing here.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Apparently it hasn't been at the Queenslane Raceway for like
five or six years. It's been quite a while. So
you mentioned upgrades, what have actually changed? Have they got
a new tarmac, new seal? Have they what what's changed?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yeah, they have a bit of new tarmac and seal
in a few spots. The layout's still the same, but
then the whole venue with the clubrooms or the pick
garages everywhere is a lot more new and improved, and
it's just, yeah, really good for Queenslane Raceway. So yeah,

(02:41):
I think that'll make it a lot more enjoyable. And yeah,
I'm just excited to get out there and get amongst them,
and the fan interaction should be pretty cool here at
QR with the bank being pretty close in to the track.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
So you're relatively young, have you actually either been to
booking coid or watch Supercars?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Yeah, I went to Pookie I think it was either
it was when McLachlin was still an evolvo, so it
would have been like twenty fourteen or twenty fifteen. So yeah,
it was really cool and obviously I didn't have I
don't have too many.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Memories of it, but yeah, it was.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
It was something with my family that we really enjoyed
and was able to, you know, make a little bit
of memories out of it, especially with how close we were.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
To the action and everything like that.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Right, well, joins us, it's been a while since the
truck assist racing car has actually ended up with the
top of the pile. When was that back in Perth.
I think it was quite a while ago now. So
between there and now, what's changed with your ride, what's
changed with your development as a supercar driver?

Speaker 4 (03:58):
Not a lot of Just been trying to tick the
boxes again and try and get back to that top
step like we had in Perth. But yeah, the the
championships so tough at the moment. It's evolving every weekend,
so we've got to stay on top of it. We've
probably struggled a little bit the last couple of rounds,
but hopefully this weekend can be back to a bit
of a turning point with a bit of form.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
We've been consistent, but yeah, just lacked a bit of
luck with the engine blowing at at.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Darwin and then also having two DNFs at Perth as
well when we probably had the cast beat for trophies
and those races. So yeah, we just need to try
and keep our nose clean and yeah, convert a few
results into some good points.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
How do you stop brock Feene He loves the heat
of the North of Australia, doesn't he.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Yeah, I'm not too worried about him at the moment.
For me, it's just you know, trying to tick our
goals and keep moving forward to on our program and
if we can get into the finals, then we'll start
worrying about him. He's obviously another league at the moment,
but we'll see how long that can last.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
It's a new system, kind of very nascarish, if you will,
to decide the championship. We're sitting in tenth at the moment.
Where do you have to be come the time where
drivers start dropping out of a back? What's your target there?

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, you have to be in the ten by the
end of Bathurst to go into the finals, and then
I think as the year goes on, every every round
from then, So after Bathurst, you we go to Gold
Coast I think it is, and two people drop off,
so then it's eight after three people drop off, and

(05:53):
then after Sanddown three people drop off, and then atast
round at Adelaide to the final four.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
So yeah, we've just got to keep chipping away.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
It's pretty tight, Ryan right on the cusp, which is good.
I'll give you a bit of fire that the barbarians
at the gate. Who's in the car with you come
back first.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
I'm sharing the car with Jade and o Jada this year,
so should be exciting. He's a Mercedes factory driver at
the moment, and yeah, had quite a bit of experience,
So yeah, we're a younger lineup, but I think that
makes it quite exciting and probably hopefully a bit of
a dark horse going into the race or a favorite.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Either either it doesn't matter hate. And finally, they will
just talk about how the car rolls out of a
truck and that's not going to necessarily decide your weekend,
but it's going to really help you. So have you
had a pedal in it yet or is it still
locked away?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
It's still locked away until tomorrow and then we'll release
it and see how we roll out the out of
the truck and go from there.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
So yeah, Tomorrow's Tomorrow is.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Going to be interesting and we'll just go through our
program and go from there.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
A bit of excitement. Can't wait for it in the weekend,
looking forward to it. I've been away for far too
long on the other side of the world, so I'm
really looking forward to getting my fill of the supercars again.
And thanks very much as always Ryan Wood for joining
us Walking Shaw Andretta United. It is in the mobile car,
and that of course is a Ford Mustang GT looking

(07:24):
forward to watching you drive it like you stole it.
Good on your woodsy.
