Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk ZEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It is seven and forty seven and it took netball
now on the program and zed a Premiership netble into
round two of that competition. Or the Mystics are taking
on the pulse this afternoon, joined now by Taylor Earl.
Good morning, Good morning. I take it your well and
are still absolutely buzzing after what you managed to do

(00:32):
to the Stars last week. Like that was quite a victory.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Wasn't it. Yes, it was a good first game for us.
Obviously a lot happened in that game, so we were
just very proud of each other so being able to
stay in it and just keep the foot on the gas.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
What was the difference do you think between the two teams?
Because you had a fourth quarter that really leaped up,
You really started making big progress there after they had
the advantage in the first quarter. So change wise, what
occurred do you think?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
To be honest, I just I think we didn't start
well and we've been working massively this week on our
start making sure that it's that's good. But I think,
like I said, we just stayed in it and we
were just able to keep the foot on the gas.
They obviously had some things that happened in their side,
so it was just important that we stayed connected. But
I think from the second quarter was when we were

(01:26):
able to, you know, just convert our own and then
when we were able to turn the ball over, we
just converted that as well. So the score slowly started
ticking over for us.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah, we got up ahead, didn't you in the second
and then you just maintain that lead right the way
through and just keept on crunching. Did you notice the
Stars and how they were playing. Did they turn off
the gas a wee bit? Did you up the anti?
What was the major difference there? Do you think?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Oh? I think they kept their foot on the gas,
But so did we at the same time. And I
think that our mindset just shifted. When we had the ball,
we had to score it, so we were just you know,
we were just making sure that we took ownership of
when we had ball in hand, we were able to
give it off well and then get it into the
shoot as well so that we could score it. And
it was just a matter of keeping keeping that score

(02:12):
ticking over for us.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
What about the new rulings. What about the distance shot
the three point five? How did that work feel? Did
Danell enjoy that? Was it a focus or just return
to normal old ball?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah? Well, funny enough, we actually didn't score any twos
in the second, third, and fourth, and neither did the Stars,
so I'm pretty sure the twos were all at the
end of the first quarter. So we didn't use it,
to be honest, but I think we were able to
not use it because we just kept on scoring and

(02:45):
scoring our own and when we got the ball, we
treasured it and we scored it. Yeah, it'll be a
massive game changer, especially if a side's down or a
side up. There's a buffer of how much you need
to be up and how much you need to be done,
and I guess what you take. So, yeah, the whole
game has changed.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
How does it.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Afeat what you do distributing? You would have gone through this,
I'm sure in practice, like, hey, you actually apply this
because like most things, unintended consequences. This is all well
and good, but it really does shuffle your entire lineup
and your point of attack doesn't. It's a very different game,
and it can just chop and change on a dime.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, and I think it's definitely the awareness. But like
you said, we've gone over it as a team, just scenarios.
We always do scenarios regardless, but there's just another scenario
in play now, and it's in relation to the score
and what we do. And I'm assuming that every team's
gone and done that so that they're a cross when
this happens. This is what we're aiming to do. And
I think that's for us as feeders. It's just the

(03:48):
awareness of when to turn on this and when to
turn on that, and just awareness of the time, the
score and the quarter. Yeah, it's just a lot of awareness.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I'd say, I don't want to sound woo around this, Taylor,
but is this a lot of esp If you will,
you're going to be tuned into who you're feeding. You've
got to know because you haven't really got time to
bark instructions, have you It doesn't work like that.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Well, I feel like a lot of the work for
us has come off the court and then on the
court so that we have all the tools that we need,
so everyone should be across what we need to do
and it's just going to be a matter of whatever
happens and what the situation is. Everyone should be across it,
and if not, we need to find a way to

(04:34):
get those comps out fast because there's no time in
this style of.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Game and an absolute game change. Did you expect that
the usage of this to accelerate as the competition develops.
I suppose teams that are lagging might start throwing caution
to the wind. And as teams get used to how
it operates, we're going to see more of this, do
you think?

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Definitely, And I think as we get used to the score,
the awareness of what we do in this situation, just
confidence to put those twos up, there's definitely going to
be more and it's going to be a lot more
strategy around the twos and the ones come into play,
which again is just going to be a massive game changer.

(05:16):
And so I'm assuming every team, like we have been,
has just been going over scenarios, going over situations, just
so that we're across it, because we know that those
twos are a game changer. You can go from you
can go from five down to one up real fast.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And as far as the pulse, what do they bring to.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
The court, Oh, they are just they work the body.
On the they're going to hustle the body and on
a they'll just make sure that they deliver the ball
well to the shooters. They've got quick betis that'll take
on the line. So yeah, it's going to be a battle,
but we're up for it and I know that they
will be too.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Well are they playing Australian d get a. They're going
to be aggressive, are they well?

Speaker 3 (05:58):
The Pulse are always just they are really good at manon.
So for us, it's just going to be making sure
that we stay in the battle. It's going to be
a battle and we're aware of it, but we just
have to make sure that we're ready. We step up
and we own our own roles.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
First four pm Center Pass Trust Arena in Auckland, the
Mystics taking on the Pulse. Both teams with good victories
last week, looking forward to this one and on that
early we thank you very much for your time, get
in there, get physical. We're not too much right, Thank you.
