Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk s'b Breakers.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Couldn't break their duck last week, still said, oh and
three it started the NBL season. Now to Sydney to
take on the Sydney Kings, but they've only played once
so far. Taylor Briok, point guard for the Breakers. He
joins US now will reflect on what's happened in the
season so far. Whatever we preview of tonight's matches, the
(00:33):
Breakers strive to get their first w of the season.
Taylor Brook with US NOW today, Taylor mat going good,
you'd be looking forward to righting the wrongs of the season,
taking on the Kings tonight, a huge game. In the fact,
with oh and three, you'd be looking at each other going,
we had a great preseason. What on earth's happened? What
(00:56):
answers have you got to those questions? Internally? Do you think?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yeah, we had a great preseason, great build up, and
we haven't found that same success so far in the season,
But we've had some good, good chats as a team,
had a really good week at training this week, so
looking to put together forty minutes of good basketball tonight So.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Wat's coach Cop said about the price of first what
has he been trying to emphasize as he scorches? Is
he the kind of guy in practice who xes and
OSes until you guys have gone cross eyed or not?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
We get over it, get over all the stuff we
need to get done. I wouldn't say's it makes us
do that? But yeah, we're we've gone. This week was
a lot of one on one defense, So a lot
of those drills we're done, and hopefully that can translate tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
You don't really want to drag over the coals of
last week, but you kind of have to, don't you.
Who's talking to you off here before? It's a game
of runs basketball, and that's what happened. Looks like things
are going well against the old enemy, the Cats, and
then suddenly they just turned it up I'm notch and
burned through you.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, definitely, there was yea three quarters of good basketball,
and unfortunately the last of that matters to most. We
just weren't quite able to get it done. But obviously
we'll take take away some positives from that game, but also,
you know, go over the negatives and how we can
turn that into positives for to night's game.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
So tell us about the big positive and tell us
about the most alarming negative.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Do you believe well, I think it was just what
I said before defense, we in the last five or
so minutes, we just couldn't get stops, and that that
was the biggest, biggest thing. And then positives. I guess
we was building from the week before in the first
three quarters. It was a lot bit of effort and
energy that we've put together.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
You are also coming down or coming back from a
bit of an illness too. I believe, like I've been
told by people within the club that you won't talk
about it, you won't use it as an excuse, but
when push comes to shove, you're a bit broken witt.
I mean, did you even get any court time? You
spend the whole time on the bench.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Played a little bit, but yeah, just came back. But
feel feeling really good now.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
So what was the guards? What happened to you?
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Just a bit of a bad, bad flu.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Tough you way through that, That's the main thing. So
tell us about the frustration though, of not actually be
able to get on court for a great length of time,
decent minutes and influence what was going on because you
must be able to see what's happening there, and but
only if I was there.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
I guess it's just take an opportunity when you get it,
go out there, do what I can to try and
impact and the game in a positive way, and then
just be the best teammate you can when you're watching
the game on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
What about with the other guards and the support you
give them. Are you quite a tight knit crew? You
and the rest of the men who I suppose deliver
all the work in the middle.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
There, I'd say, we're all. We're all the close team.
You know, we will say stuff here and there and
you know, get on with it.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Can you be quite abrupt with each other? Can you
actually say it like it is? Or do you have
to be quite tender around some players because their ego
might be a bit brittle.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
No, I'd say we we say listen to what's being said,
not how it's being said. And sometimes there's a few
extra words in there, but you know, the point is
the main bit.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
When you look at a team like the Kings, we've
got a wonderful history. I think I managed getting censured
when I was watching the Kings under Brian gorgeon years
ago taking on the Breakers and it all turned pair
shape for the Breakers and I was a bit well,
I was young man, I was a bit pissy eyed
in the crowd and I was given them what for
from the cheap seats. I don't think they liked it.
(04:32):
But this this team, they've only had one game this season,
so they're not really found any format have those? Is
this an advantage for you blokes?
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, they've played some games versus the European teams when
they came over, but yeah, just just the one regular
season game so far for them. But yeah, hopefully, you know,
we could. We've got our three games of experience that
we've been able to build on and hopefully that translates
in a positive way for us.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I mentioned trying to pick stuff out of that game,
but that you've got to a degree break off your vision, Mirs.
It's what you're going to do next, because what's happened previously,
it doesn't mean a great deal even though you can,
I suppose, amplify some of the things that went wrong.
Do you have that attitude as at all about what
happens next?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah, for sure. It's moving on to the nice game,
taking it one at a time. You know, it's a
long season, and I guess, you know, we're just looking
to get better every game and that will translate to wins.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
And how's the health of the rest of the team.
Are they looking aokay? You know, not drop any secrets
for me.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Taylor, I've got no secrets for you, but I think
it's looking pretty good.
