Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Talk 'B and it's a very good morning to a
man called Schwein. Loki's the captain of the juniors out
of the Phoenix. Can I call you guys juniors? Is
that fair? You're not that young, ashueen on nineteen.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
But I think junior still applies here.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Okay, they are. You're a junior, right, You're in the
Scenesral League. How's that working for you guys at the moment?
It's an unusual circumstance, but very necessary for the advancement
of the club and expect for guys like you.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, of course.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Obviously we're the academy, so we're a very young team
and we've had a few new players added to our
squad this year, so with that comes a bit of
inconsistently see which shows in our earlier results. But more
recently our team has started to gel, which is really
nice to see and it's again showed in the more
recent results, like we won against Marma, who's a really

(01:04):
good team. We competed well against Willington Olympic, who I
believe is the best team in the country.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Right now.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
So it's starting to come together for us as a
young team, which is nice to see.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
You're not showing your Wellington biased Bonny chance saying that.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Are you No? No, I hope not.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
There will be a few people in the ak gang. Yeah, now,
I don't think so. I've got to ask about the
competition between this younger team and you're playing against men.
Is that noticeable at all or not?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I think it comes with learning.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
I think obviously the first few times players are inexperienced
playing against men. But I think with learning and with time,
young players learn to stand up to them physically, because
that's probably the biggest gap in terms of like the
footballing sense, I think as football skills, football competence, it's

(01:52):
quite even, but the biggest difference is physicality. But with
time and with obviously time in the gym, which is
part of our program at the academy. Yeah, the gap
short night is small towards the tail end of.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
YEA our time at the academy.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
What about the on field now, so though, the ability
to play the struct your game too, I suppose put
down what Chris Greenacre wants you to do on the pitch.
Is there much of a difference between that and with
the men out there is just pure physicality swin again.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
I think physicality is a big aspect of aspect of it.
It's not the whole picture. But yeah, I mean Greene's
obviously done. He's very experienced, he's a really good coach
and he knows, you know, how to win.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
We just go there as a team to do our
best to execute his game plan and hopefully win games.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
And again and.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
The more recent results and the more recent and the
more recent games it has been working in our favor.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
So you've got Phraser Park this afternoon, You're taking on
North Wellington three pm. Is kick off your expectations? What
are they going to bring to the turf?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Well, the last two games that re Verse again I
produced eleven goals between both teams, So it's a it's
a very entertaining game for the fans, for the supporters,
but for us it's just against sticking to our game plan,
focusing on ourselves to do a job and yeah, hopefully
keep the ball out of the net on our part,

(03:26):
hopefully keep a clean sheet. But yeah, if we focus
on ourselves, if we execute Greenies game plan, if we execute.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
As a team I believe we give us LS the
best chance of winning.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
And of course it's not just what's coming up in
the scene. Truly get you're part of what the eight
have you guys from the Phoenix reserves are heading off
to the IFC under nineteen means championship in some more.
You've got a lot on your plate, haven't you.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, of course, but again that's football, that's part of it,
and we signed up for it, so there's no point
in complaining. But yeah, obviously really excited to go over
to some ow as part of the team. It is
a great honor for myself and I'm sure the rest
of the place I think the same. But again, we
signed up for it and we're happy. We're really happy
to be a part of that experience.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
And is Chris Greenaker running there as well?

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yes, he is the head coach of the under nineteens
team going over the summer.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
That must make things, I then say, easier but slightly
least jarring when you're moving from playing in this Central
League up into this under nineteen.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, of course it helps.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Of course, familiarity and a new environment is very very
helpful for you know, adapting and getting the most out
of your performance. But I think Greeney has done a
really good job in separating his two roles. There's really
no crossover, and you know that's by design. It's just
to give us the best chance of again in the

(04:53):
Phoenix to hopefully make it into the first team. And
then for news and football, he has the job to do,
which is the Winds Tournament.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Looking forward to it, looking forward to seeing the rise
and rise swing Lakes should be good fun and seemrag
Greenie will you. I love interviewing him back in the
day when he was a player. He's a good human being.
How you play well? Three o'clock the Southternoon, Fraser Park
at the North at Wellington and let's try and keep
a clean sheet, although not the other end, because I

(05:20):
believe you're in quite good goal scoring form right now, Shvin,
Is that right?

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Oh? Yes, it has been good.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
It's been a good season so far for me in
terms of goals, which is I wouldn't say surprising, but
it's a nice bonus to be on the end of
a few goals, especially as a fallback as a defender.
So yeah, this been an exciting season in that aspect.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Get in there and drill him from deep good on
your screen.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Thanks for yours, Thank you, Darcy, thank you for your time.
