This week on The Big League Podcast, Roger tuoy vasa
Schek reflects on a heartbreaking Golden point loss to the Bulldogs,
how he found switching to fullback, and what more we
can expect from promising debutante Leka Haalaesima. Nick Beauley comes
steaming off the interchange to analyze the injuries, refereeing in
a dire fifth tackle plays, Plus Mitch Barnett will play

(00:46):
in State of Origin Game three. My name is Nathan Limb.
Let's go b LB. Three words stand out to me
from a game for the Ages, Heart, pride, and yeah,
there was so much to unpack from this game. And
while it wasn't perfect, I really don't want to be negative.

(01:07):
You could feel the desperation both teams put into that
they were out on their feet.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Did the Warriors deserve to win that game? Yeah? They did.
Everyone was playing out of position.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
They lost Charles Nikelcrookstar dlan Wa, tenez A, Lesnak and
Marcel and Montour to injury Freddy Lassik was playing as
a middle and my god, was he putting his body
on the line. He weighs eighty four kilos. He was
getting smashed up, but he never stopped. Leka Halasima. Where
did they find this kid? Play them every week? Give

(01:40):
him a knighthood, build him a statue to Mida Martin
smashed in the head late right out in front of
the posts. Blatant penalty, disgraceful officiating, probably no, definitely cost
the Warriors the game. I could go on and on,
and believe me, I will, But we can romanticize this

(02:01):
all we want. The cold, harsh reality is this will
ultimately go down as another loss and an other knife
in the Warriors NRL playoff hopes. Nick Bewley News Talk
said Bee's Voice of Sport and christ Church. We're going
to go through everything, but we'll start off with the
penalty that wasn't Salmon slapped with a two game band

(02:24):
for hitting to Marty Martin in the head, but the
bunker cleared it during the game. Are you even surprised
at this point?

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Good a Nathan get to be jumping off the interchange? No,
I'm not frustrated.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
I am frustrated. I'm not surprised at this point.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
I've been on the Warriors bandwagon for quite some time
and you kind of become accustomed to this feeling of
being angry, disappointed, and disgruntled when the Warriors don't get
the rather the green, and it's made even more frustrating,
of course, yesterday Sunday afternoon, when the NRAL judiciary comes
out and says jam and Sam and it's a great
too dangerous contact charge onto mighty Martin.

Speaker 5 (03:04):
He'll face a two week band Not.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
That that matters because there's jaws and about a million pieces.
But look, I do want to, I guess, preface and
rap a bit of context around this point too, and
I know we're going to get into it around some
fifth tackle plays as well, particularly in the second half
and Golden Point. I feel, you know, it's it's a
little simple for mine to completely apportion blame on the officials,

(03:28):
whether that be the onfield referee.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
Chris Butler, who I thought for the.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
For the majority of the game really controlled the game
and allowed the both teams to just go out at
hammer and tong, or whether that's the bunker Adam g Ye.
He's got multiple camera angles to look at the incident.
But you know, yes, it's a it's a heartbreaker, but
we're always taught, well, I was taught.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Anyway growing up.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
When you're playing, whether it's age group rugby or basketball,
whatever sport, take the officials out of the game. You know,
you get to a point where it's not going to
come down to a subjective decision. And the Warriors had
ample opportunities in that second half to get beyond the
lead that they had, and I thought, for you know,
we've on this podcast, myself included, been very complimentary of

(04:09):
the Chanelle Harris, Divita and Tamairi Martin partnership in the
halves unbeaten up until the weekend, but they'll be the
first to admit that they didn't ice the game when
it was there for the taking. So it's important, I
feel like to contextualize the situation. Yes, it's frustrating, and
no doubt we're going to get some pretty limph excuse
from Graham Annersley some stage Monday afternoon, which doesn't help

(04:33):
the case.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
But I just think before all your keyboard warriors.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Out there get too fired up, go back and have
a look at that second half, because it's just too
simple for mine to just blame the officials for what
was an outstanding game of football.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
But you've got to think, nick, right. I was talking
to Michael Burgess yesterday who was in Australia for the game.
He's Paris bound for the Olympics.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
How good.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
But I was talking to him over the phone yesterday
about this and he made the point of you got
to think, what is the Bunker's process here? Because if
you look at that play, the commentator said during the
game that the Bunker had cleared that play, So what's
their process? Okay, was to Marti Martin hit in the head?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (05:08):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Was it late, yes, was it high? Yes?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Was it deliberate? Yes, Okay, we'll clear it. Like, how
do they reach that conclusion?

Speaker 7 (05:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (05:19):
I think that's the tough part.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
And we don't hear the Bunker's explanation as part of
the broadcast as to why they've reached that conclusion that
the incident is cleared.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
I'm struggling to get my head around exactly how they
could clear it. And obviously, twenty four hours after the
fact that the Nral judiciary disagrees with the assessment that
the Bunker Adam g made with that grade to contact
charge on jam and Salmon. So it is tough and
it adds to I guess the fuel out there.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
And obviously you guys, you.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
And Burge went over this at great detail last year
after was it the Penrith game and Jason Poarris came
off the back fence and we started talking about subconscious bias.
It really is tricky as a fan of this team
and as someone you know there's thousands of fans fans
out there, you know, when you put your time aside

(06:11):
in your weekend, you put your heart end to go
to this, go watch them play, and then things like
this happen. It is incredibly frustrating, and at such a
critical juncture of the season, it is so tight between
teams five to fourteen at the minute, the Warriors from
one basically or they pretty much have to win out
from here to make the eight.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
So yeah, it is heartbreaking.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
But again I just want to stress the point, go back,
have a look at the second half and there's countless
opportunities there that the Warriors missed and for me, that
need and I'm sure Andrew Webster will acknowledge this, that
that needs to be the focal point of the frustration
rather than one refereeing decision.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Well, you mentioned subconscious bias there, and I just want
to put a line through that because I don't think
that's the case at all. Although I'm completely pissed off
with that last call of non call, should I say
I actually did feel that the Warriors had the rubb
of the green from the officials in the first half.
There are a few six again calls that didn't go
the Bulldog's way when it perhaps should have. A couple

(07:10):
bizarre penalty the lifting leg one the penalty player did
it against Jackson Ford. I believe, I understand there's now
a rule about that, but I don't know. I thought
that was a bit bizarre. But we're going to go
through a few of these things. As I said, Michael
Burgess is pound bound four Paris.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
The Olympics.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Be stopped in at Sydney first for the match and
got an exclusive interview with Roger Tuey Vasaschek, who we
will hear from in just a moment. But first, here
are the highlights of the most pulsating game of rugby
league we've seen in a long time. Bulldogs thirteen Warriors twelve.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Let's get it underway.

Speaker 8 (07:46):
Chris Butler's referee, Game one of Super Saturday. Martin Ghost
Flatada said, now it's on Astal pictures.

Speaker 9 (07:56):
Goton Pizza, gotcha Jelly Canterbury go ninety time tomorrow, Martin Nicol.

Speaker 8 (08:04):
Klubster beautiful your Tenny's a lasia still on for the
Warriors short side, big bump hat score joined the Bonos
six ten in coming out to the right side, kicking.

(08:25):
Gotta a caa pray playing for Burton.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
What said?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Burton's gotta what shine?

Speaker 9 (08:32):
Punched again, hits the top again every.

Speaker 8 (08:37):
Twenty away? What shut Harris Devada?

Speaker 9 (08:40):
He strike, said, well just after the side at the distance,
easy burn the number six steps up left foot, am
not a good strike.

Speaker 8 (08:51):
It's gonna come up across les. No fire, He's hit
the posts, He's got under the cross by these times.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Thirty minutes out.

Speaker 9 (09:01):
He goes back to Harris Devada gets his shut again,
kind of hit Shutavada touched under way, Burton shuts down,
shuts downs, cotting in not coming in my thought fifty
away crazy put down on play for and now did
they come?

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Only they will?

Speaker 2 (09:22):
But I said one way the past absolutely ridiculous. Audio
courtesy of Fox Sports.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
The Big League Podcast.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Michael Burgess traveled to Sydney for the game as he's
en route to the Olympics in Paris. Burge got an
exclusive chat with Roger too I vasa chick after the game.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Let's take a listen.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
It's first of all, Roger, how tough is How tough
is that to take?

Speaker 7 (09:50):
You know? Yeah, that was a tough one.

Speaker 10 (09:52):
You know, we had a really good week leading up
to it. We started really well as well. Boys had
real clear focus, a lot of effort, a lot of effort,
and just no reward at the end of it.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
That's what's that's a tough part.

Speaker 11 (10:07):
There'll be a more consolation with the guts that the
team showed losing all those players to injuries, staying in
the fight.

Speaker 10 (10:13):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, Like again, like the boys of
real resilience. You know, we had a couple of few
errors that were just characteristic from us. Just a lot
of our boys gone gone down. I think we lost
the whole back. Three had Walks playing on wing, playing
a center cap he's playing your wing playing a cener.

Speaker 7 (10:30):
So a lot of boys, you know, showed a.

Speaker 10 (10:32):
Lot of resilience, just playing out of position, but again
you can have all that effort and and just for short, what.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Were you saying to each other at the start of Golden.

Speaker 10 (10:40):
Point momentum is just get build momentum, build momentum. The
big and the technical shapes and the big plays are
going to come through our momentum and which we brought.

Speaker 7 (10:53):
We brought as well.

Speaker 10 (10:54):
You know, we gave Chanelle two good looks, but unfortunately
we just got ant iSER it and you know, there's
a lot of effort put into it again and just
couldn't couldn't come aver with points.

Speaker 11 (11:05):
How were you organizing the back line when you had
guys that don't play there, like like Katewell on the wing,
Dylan Walker at center, Laker in the centers, how are
you organizing them?

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Oh?

Speaker 10 (11:14):
We just kept as simple, you know, it kept as simple,
and we just played tough carry footy.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
You know, that's the way we played.

Speaker 10 (11:20):
And if you mighty wanted to run shaped then we
just had to just fall into it like we do
a training and you know we had one woulden good
look there were Lecquer young nineteen year old made that
huge break and you know, almost some wonder for us
and scoring that and yes.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
We just fell into shape. What's mighty caught. But again
it was all momentum and just playing alls.

Speaker 11 (11:40):
In front and as you say, a lot of effort
and guts in the second half. But what do you
think was missing in terms of making the most of
the opportunities you had.

Speaker 10 (11:49):
We just didn't finish well well enough to so if
we moved our momentsum got there, but we just we
just couldn't iced the where we finished our plate. Put
the ball in the corner, d up, get the ball now,
they're time was getting a halfway. Now let's attack where
we're getting down there? Weren't We were making too many errors,
We're dropping balls, were you know, kicking a dead kicking
it out? And we were went finishing really well and

(12:11):
just really putting pressure on ourselves and doggies you're able
to keep them in the game and they got their
luck and they strike.

Speaker 11 (12:20):
What was going through your mind when you had to
go back to full back when Chance gets injured?

Speaker 7 (12:27):
No, just to just keep it real simple.

Speaker 10 (12:29):
Make sure I give my numbers right, make sure I
turn up on the end of the on the end
of line, and make sure I take my carries and
I just kept it real simple and didn't try.

Speaker 7 (12:38):
To over complicate my hand and that's that's it. Just
keep it simple.

Speaker 11 (12:42):
Because have you trained at fullback since before the Newcouncil game.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
I don't, I Mentionine you have.

Speaker 7 (12:48):
No, no, not really haven't been training back there.

Speaker 10 (12:50):
You know, we've got two gun fullbacks, you don't got
Knuck who's world class, and then you've got young team
coming through, so we're pretty set in the full back area.
But you know, if it's something like that that we're
not planned for, then just go to pull my hand
up and go back there.

Speaker 11 (13:04):
And can you tell us a bit about Laker like it,
because obviously people don't know much about him.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
Yeah, Liquor is a freak. You know, he's one of
those ones.

Speaker 10 (13:10):
He's a kid at training and he's always smiling and
just having a good laugh at little things and you
know he's still trying to find his way, but there's
just something about him when he gets onto the on
the field and it's game time and he just it's
showtime for him. He turns up, he does what he
needs to do. He does freakish things and he's a
competitor on the field. But you know, tonight, I think
a star is born and I'm looking forward to seeing

(13:31):
more of Liquor in the in the n L side
and then the top side and yeah, just just stay
tuned for Liquor.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
How did it feel watching him make that run?

Speaker 7 (13:39):
Oh, it's unreal.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
You know.

Speaker 7 (13:40):
I was just seeing him go and I was just
in shock.

Speaker 10 (13:43):
I think I was the last pass I got tackled,
and I just watched him go to work, and man,
I was just annoyed and just watching him get around,
get around some inn ol players, beat the fallback and
almost score you know it from I don't know what
forty sixty out. Yeah, it's just a yeah, it's just
a young kid, that's you know, it's real confident in
his game and you.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
Know, had no fear out there, and it was.

Speaker 6 (14:02):
Good to watch.

Speaker 11 (14:03):
How tough is it to play here? The crowd really
gets into it, the Bulldogs crowd. It's quite a hostile crowd. Yeah,
I thought it was awesome.

Speaker 10 (14:10):
You know, this is all part of the game, and
you know, well done to the Bulldogs, you know, getting
behind their team and turning up and putting on the
show for their boys and and getting you know.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
Real loud when they need it to. And for me,
I really enjoy it. You know, I like that stuff.
You know, the crowd giving it to us, and you
know we're.

Speaker 10 (14:26):
Trying to find a react, they're trying to find a reaction,
and and them supporting their boys because it's similar to
back home.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
You know, I love it.

Speaker 11 (14:34):
And when the dust settles and you get over this disappointment,
how important in the next two weeks to buy and
just the I don't know, a chance to reset and
you've got a big final seven or eight games to come.

Speaker 10 (14:46):
That's the crazy part of this game as a competition
just keeps on going and like you said, seven eight
more games. You know we Barney, who was our skip
skip today, he just said to everyone, like get excited.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
Look at look at what we could produce with a bulldogs.
What topped four?

Speaker 10 (15:01):
Where I asked, who were we? Weren't playing our best footy.
We had a lot of our boys down. Everyone was
playing all over the place. But just kill resilient an
effort kept us in this game. So we bring that
each week we'll I see everything else. So get excited
and stay tuned, rest up for the buy in, and
get excited that was his message.

Speaker 7 (15:18):
Good message.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Yeah, this is the Big League Podcast.

Speaker 12 (15:25):
This is our yea, the Big League Podcast on the
Warrior is bad Wagons.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
It's day one.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Okay, now we're going to go through this game in
a little bit more detail. Firstly, just absolutely gutting for
the team, for the players who put so much into that.
Coach Andrew Webster is really disappointed that gallantry didn't earn
the lolly.

Speaker 13 (15:44):
Started for the boys and took so much effort into
something so resilient. So many Andrews people in different spots
really proud of the effort, but just disappointed we didn't
get what we wanted to get.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Nick, and I know you've gone through this game in
quite specific detail. Do you want to just take us
through it your overall thoughts. You mentioned the missed opportunities
the Warriors had that game.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
Yeah, it was an absorbing contest.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
I think in one group chat when it was fifth
in sixteen minutes and I was like, this is the
best nil all start, you know, fifteen minutes into a
game I've seen.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
It was just break neck physical.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Both teams go on hammer and tong and it just
felt like, you know who's going to break first and
we talk about fifth tackle options, and obviously it was
in the second half, in particular in Golden point two
where the Warriors didn't step up.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
But that was an absolute killer, wasn't it.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
The to mighty Martin pass, Matt Burton with the intercept,
runs away, finds Bronson Cherry and the Bulldogs open the scoring.
But really impressed with the comeback after that from the Warriors.
Obviously a really nice scrum play down the right hand
side to get the numbers, good set of passing through
the hands. I think it was Rts with the last
pass for Dallen, and then moments later a really nice

(16:51):
short side played too for Montoya, just barging his way
over for the Warriors to open up a lead that
they held it at halftime. And I guess that's when
all these injuries started happening, right Charns looked like he
was battling from about the fifteenth or sixteenth minute.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
Ultimately comes off a minute to go in the first half.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Too long after that Dallan with that head knock, and
I think it was around the hour mark we lost Marcela.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
I can't think of a time when a NRAL team, let.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
Alone the Warriors lose their entire back three in a game,
and obviously the back three of the Warriors is just
so critical in terms of those those yardage carries that
they do out of their own ends. So yeah, as
Andrew Webster alluded to guys playing out of position, and
I know we're going to get to young Lecqua Hallosima
at one point, but he was just that that is
one of the most impressive debutes I've seen in Warrior's history.

(17:41):
That was just nothing short of sensational. So many guys
stepped up. Mitch Barnett was out of this world twenty
four runs for titled in twenty six meters, not to
mention fifty six tackles. It was just insane that the
effort on effort, on effort in the middle I thought
was sensational from the Warriors. Bulldogs were equally as impressive,
I thought. But yeah, those fifth tackle plays I mentioned before,

(18:05):
I feel like there was about nine or ten opportunities
where the Warriors had their fifth tackle inside of the
Bulldog's territory in that second half or into Golden Point,
And there were just moments there which you know, when
it comes to the review, I know they've got the
buy this week, but I'm sure they'll be looking at
the clips, you know, kicks too long or out on
the fall, or Shanelle Harris Tavita had a moment down
the left hand side where he just inexplicably didn't look

(18:28):
to where he was passing and it basically hit the
touch judge rather than Adam Pompey. Just just little moments
like that, and that's where you left thinking, Gee whiz.
I know there's been a lot of criticism around a
guy by the name of Sean Johnson, but I'll tell
you what. I was sitting there Saturday afternoon thinking if
there was one man I'd want right now, the game
down on the wire, who could step up in a

(18:50):
clutch moment and put this game beyond doubt, and the
Warrior's favorite, it was Sean Johnson. And as good as
to Mighty Martin and Shanelle I've been in the course
of the last month, you know, hopefully they'll take a
lot from that game. And I think to Mighty Martin
even acknowledged on the on the skyspat broadcast afterwards, See
he knows himself he didn't nail those critical moments, but

(19:11):
heck of a contest. Gutting really that there had to
be a loser. I saw Birge firing up on Twitter.
He hates golden points. I love the drama and the
theater of it, but it is devastating either way that
that's one team has to walk off a loser usually.
Of course, the Warriors had a drawer after Golden Point
with Manly earlier in the season, but that was it

(19:32):
was an epic game. The call there from Andrew Voss
and co. That they were just living every moment was
it was sensational.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah, I mean you mentioned Sean Johnson there, and I
on this podcast last week I made the case of
White because I've been a massive supporter of Seann Johnson
to Marty, Marty that Martin is the Hart's combination given
their experience. I think individually they're the two best halves
at the club, but their combination just has not collecked.
And by the time Johnson comes back, they're not going
to have enough time to give it more time to
click because they're going to be in the Thicker Finals

(20:02):
and they're going to need the attack to work. So
if the attack between Tomati, Martin and Chanell is working,
they should stick with it.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
I stand by.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
I wrote a piece and herold about it actually last
week as well, and I got a fair amount of
slack for it too. But the fifth tackle players in
this game, in a word, atrocious. Tomighty Martin and Chanel
Harris Tavita weren't particularly accurate with their kicking. However, I
do think that this is something they can turn around
fairly quickly, because we have seen it work consistently in
weeks gone by. I also think that because everyone was

(20:32):
playing out of position, that would have drastically impacted I
guess their structures and players knowing their roles in those
fifth tackle plays. If you're out a position, you don't
know exactly where you're supposed to be. I mean, look
how the scene was playing in the centers. Freddy Lussick
was a middle As I mentioned, players knowing their roles
I guess in those situations is really important. However, the

(20:52):
accuracy from the two halves just wasn't there that game.
The structure is something for the coaches to think about,
but I do think that there's something that they can
turn around, especially with a buy next week.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Yeah, it'll be interesting when Sean does become available.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Again do they do.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
I personally would love to see Chanelle and Sean be
the combination.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I know that would be pretty tough on to Mighty Martin,
who's been really good at the seven jersey, but I
think what you mentioned before around to Mighty and Sean
being the best halves, I think they're the best half backs,
but not necessarily a good six to seven compliments of
each other. They like to be sort of game controllers,
and you kind of need someone with a bit of spark.
Obviously we don't have Luke Metcalfin as far as we're aware.

(21:34):
I did hear last week saying he's doing some on
field running but certainly not training with the team. You
kind of need that foil at six for a seven.
So it will be interesting, Like I alluded to, Raiders,
Tigers Eels next, certainly winnable and that'll probably just add
the momentum back that we know the Warriors can make
a play for the eight, and then I guess beyond

(21:56):
that it will be interesting, a dilemma, no doubt, for
Andrew Webster to get in the midst of and then
I guess not Chanelle, Sorry, Charns Nickel, Klukstar as well,
look pretty banged up. We'll go for scans on on
a leg and that might cause another spine shuffle.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
I thought.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Roger to Ivasi check looked pretty handy there at fullback.
Of of course, got Tame toy a picky as well.
So some decisions, but no doubt some rest on the
mind initially for the Warriors.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
With the buy approaching, well, let's carry on talking about
these injuries because they were so crucial to this game.
Everyone playing out a position. Charlesicle Cooks goes off with
a calf injury, Dulham tis a lesniak, and Hia Masalim
Montoya a lower leg issue. So no wonder they were
struggling under the high ball when you lose your back three.
Wade Egan was also carrying an elbow injury. Everyone was
dealing with something from the sounds of it. From what

(22:45):
Andrew Webster said in the press conference, thank goodness for
the bye. Webster's hopeful he'll get one of the back
three back afterwards.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
We'll putch yourselves up.

Speaker 13 (22:54):
I think Dall's they said he couldn't come back on
so well, the buy said he should be available for
selection going.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
Chance and Mars will player at the next game.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
But we'll see Nick, how should they manage this, because
you'd imagine taine to a peak, he goes to full
back in coursely onto the wing and hopefully they get
downen back from the HIA by the next game. After
the buye, I can't see Roger Gomett to fellback. We've
just pretty much put a line through that. Plus Rocker
Berry is also out sit they need him in the
centers anyways, that how are you look at it?

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Yeah, I think it'll be tain topicky fullback again.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
I mean, there's just so much up in the air.
There isn't there, but yeah, you'd think Dollan.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
And I thought that was one of Marcello Montoya's best
games for some time, Like the physicality showed and that
contact shaking off Jacob Kraz the score was really impressive.
He's just he was just all effort, really getting in
and amongst the actions. So you know, he holds his
place for mine SODA's Dollan. And then I suppose we
just see who else is kind of floating around. If
rock o'berry is nearing a return, he could be someone

(23:57):
to come back into the calculations as well.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
Of course, we haven't even touched on Toohu Harris.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
That news I think of coming out about twenty four
hours prior to kick off against the board and the
line was sidelined indefinitely with the wrist issue that he's
been managing for quite some time. Dylan Walker has been very,
very good at Locke, and you do wonder with all
the miles on the clock fits or how they treat

(24:24):
it going forward. He was coming off the interchange and
I think in that last game only played about twenty
five minutes, so obviously you want him there for his
leadership and at full tilt to you want Taho Harrison
your team. He's up there with some of the best
middle forwards in the competition. So that's one to watch
as well. From a fitness standpoint.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Yeah, I mean, let's put an asterisk next to that indefinitely,
because I'm pretty sure that they do that sometimes when
they just don't know yet how long the injury is
going to take. Hopefully it is not for a sustained
period of time. But he's the fun but nick Leka
halla Seema debut on outstanding Halo Seeman nearly scored in
the second half after making a break from the forty

(25:01):
meter line only to be held up over the line
the left foot, right foot step.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
It was brilliant.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Was first run smashed one of the Bulldog players out
the way. Did that a couple of times. He was
good on defense as well. Webster is so proud of
the teenager's performance.

Speaker 13 (25:13):
He scored one of the most amazing tries and debut
and what a tackle.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
What I run?

Speaker 13 (25:18):
I thought he was amazing his first run through the middle.
We knew he's capable of that. He just comes up
with those type of players now.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Aleka Halasima has just been upgraded before that game to
a top thirty contracts is definitely going to be there
next year. Nick, where do they find this kid? What
did you think of his performance his debut?

Speaker 3 (25:36):
It was so good.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Ah, he is outstanding and yeah he's been someone there's
a bit of a Warriors Online community that has had
big wraps on this kid for some time. SG Ball
Player of the Year last year, New South Wales Cup
debut at seventeen. Do yourself a favored it's type in
Lecqua Halasima into twitter x or whatever you call it,
and some of the Warriors Online sleuths have cut up

(25:58):
all his reserve grade highlights and tries.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
He is an absolute beast.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Mainly plays as a second row edge for the reserve
grade team, scores tries for off fifth tackle kicks or
just running over the top of people. Eighteen years of age,
you know, nineteen and September just a massive future. There's
a lot of young guns coming through the system, but
I think it's fair to say Halasima might be top

(26:25):
of the list in terms of the highest ceiling he
signed through to.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
I think it's twenty twenty seven. And yeah, you wonder
given the position that the Warriors are in.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
They won't take their foot off the gas because they're
still close to the eighth.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
But there's an.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Argument to be made there, Nathan, that he makes their
best seventeen going forward in terms of impact and versatility.
Started in the middle, then went out the second row,
then went out to center because of injuries. So I
know there's guys like Jacob Laban floating around as well,
Dimetric Sefa cooler, but yeah, he was something else, and
as Webster alluded to, that would have gone down as

(26:58):
I reckon the greatest tribe on nrldbuton fair Plater Bronson
Cherry who Lequer initially skinned to come back, and that
was a trice over for sure.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Well, it gives you so much confidence for the future
because you mentioned a couple of the names there, like
Jacob Laban obviously, Halo Sema. We've got Zion mo who
there as well, who's sort of on the cusp. So
it does give you a hell of a lot of
confidence that the pathways are producing outstanding players. You can
foot it at NRL level, and the pace of Hallo
Seema is what impressed me in that run as well,
not only his physicality and smashing players out the way,

(27:29):
but the pace he was able to almost burnt the
full back. You know, Warriors, if we look ahead now
just overall quickly fourteenth on the ladder, three points outside
the eight.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
They're still in it and there's still a lot of
games to go.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I hate the fact that we're getting towards the point
in the season where we're going, oh well, if this
team loses and the Warriors when these games are there,
but with the by next week and then the Raiders,
Tigers and Eels, those are all winnable games. Eight points
in the next four weeks, and the Warriors are suddenly,
oh yeah, we could win the whole thing.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Yeah, I'm not so sure about when the whole thing,
but certainly back in the picture. As I alluded to earlier,
it's just how tight it is and how much of
a log jam it is between basically positions five to fourteen.

Speaker 5 (28:15):
So the Bulldogs with that win go to twenty two,
they're in fifth.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
You got the Dolphins on twenty two, Manly on twenty one,
Cowboys twenty Nights twenty, Dragons twenty, Broncos eighteen and eleventh,
Raiders eighteen, Rabbit O's eighteen. They've won five straight, and
then the Warrior is seventeen. But you mentioned this next three.
It's critical. If they don't win all these three, I
think it's terminal. And then they look ahead to what

(28:42):
is a trickier run home, Dolphins away, Manly at home,
Bulldogs again at home, and then Sharks away. They're all,
you know, four teams that are in those positions five
to fourteen basically, so coin flip games. Yeah, I'm not
even gonna bother getting the calculator out. How are you feeling,
Nathan in terms of confidence if he had to call
it right now? Are they just missing out? Are they

(29:03):
sneaking in?

Speaker 2 (29:05):
It's so difficult because they have these run of three
games that you think would be easier winnable games. If
they can get through those three games with three wins,
you think by then they have all the key players
back from injury. They do have Johnson, who you know,
despite whatever anyone has said, Johnson will almost certainly go
straight back into halfback. So I think I think we

(29:25):
do have to just reevaluate after those games.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah, next the next three is going to be critical.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
As mentioned, let's finish on another positive Nick Bailey, this little,
uh rather big analysis segment. Mitch Barnett, as we mentioned before,
two d and twenty six meters fifty something, tackles five
off loads and he's named in the new South Wales
state of origin number sixteen jersey, so he will be
on the interchange, he will play, We will see him
in state of origin at this at the time of recording,

(29:52):
the Queensland team has not been named yet, but hopefully
we'll have Kirk Capewell as well in there.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
How good?

Speaker 5 (29:59):
Oh, how good?

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (30:00):
And I think Michael Maguire, the new South Wales coach,
would have taken one lock at that performance on Saturday
eighty three minutes as well. Like I know, there were
players obviously all the back three out so he had
to step up, but he.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Was playing in the middle. He's playing in the edge.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Yeah, two hundred and what is it, twenty six meters
fifty plus tackles, just like a ridiculous work rate. He's
made for the Origin Arena, like he just will not
take a backward step, and yeah, it's it's so well deserved.
He's obviously been in and around the camp for the
last two weeks and the extended bench getting a feel
for it. He'll come off the interchange and they won't

(30:35):
lose a thing.

Speaker 12 (30:38):
The Big League Podcast on the Warriors Badwagon since day one,
The Big League Podcast for the biggest league fans.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Okay, Nick Burley. Just to finish off, quick fire predictions
for a shortened Round nineteen with numerous teams off with
the buy just five games. We're going to kick things
off with the Dolphins and the high flying Rabbitos who've
won five in a row.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Yeah, five in a row.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
But big new with Latrell Mitchell the foot injury ruling
him out of New South Wales calculations for that state
of origin decide a Wednesday week. He's been pivotal really
for the run that South Sydney have made. Some more
responsibility goes on the likes of Cody Walker. Cam Murray
will miss this one because he'll be in Origin and

(31:29):
the Dolphin's been really good at Redcliffe, so I'm gonna
give it to the Dolphins.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
But yeah, really really good game to open things up.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
I'm going to back the Rabbitos simply because you know,
as you mentioned, I must seen those key players Latron
Mitchalls taismanic for them. But I think momentum will play
a big part here and the rabbit Os will get
the job done.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Tiger Sharks, Yeah, what's happened to the Sharks all of
a sudden losing to the Titans. Nico Hines looks really
short of confidence obviously the Tigers. You know a lot
of better teams have also got tied up by the
Melbourne Storm. Yeah, big upset for me. I'm going to
go the Tigers with no real confidence. But speaking of

(32:09):
no confidence, that's the Sharks at the minute. They look
after the start they've had, the wheels are falling off.
So I'll go Tigers will you.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Talk about the Sharks, the wheels falling off the last
few weeks, lost to the Dolphins, then they lost to
the Bulldogs, then they lost to the Titans and now
obviously visit the Tigers. I will back them to turn
it around against the Tigers, Titans Eels.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Yeah, the Titans have found something, haven't they And the
same can't be said for Parramatta. So talking about momentum
and confidence and players, you know, excitement machines like Keanu
Kenney there at fullback. Yeah, they get to go back.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
Home to the Gold Coast fresh off the impressive win
over Cronullas. So I'm just going to keep backing a
team in form, even given their position on the ladder.
Of course, the Eels are right down near the bottom
as well, but Gold Coast for one.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Yeah, Eels very long on confidence.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
But they have just signed Melbourne assistant Jason Ryles I believe,
as their head coach for Necks season on a four
year deal.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
So that's a good get for them.

Speaker 4 (33:12):
Broncos, Dragons, you know, and yeah, I was just about
to say teams in terms of the wheels falling off
for touch and again, look they played Penrith better teams
have lost to Penrith and those sort of circumstances. But
I think they're really starting to feel the pinch of
having no Adam Reynolds for such a significant amount of
the season. He's their facilitator. Then you couple that it

(33:34):
was good to see Reese Walsh I think find a
bit of form. But of course the Broncos Round nineteen
severely impacted by state of origin, so they'll have no Walsh,
no Hass, no Pat Carrigan. The Dragons too, they'll have
no Ben Hunts. So yeah, a really tough game to
pick when so many key cogs are out. I'll just
go hometown team factor and in back Brisbane to try

(33:57):
and find something.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
I'm going to go for the Dragons today. Broncos have
lost five in a row. They lost five in a row.
They haven't had a win. There's a buy in there
as well, so they haven't had a win for six weeks.
The last one was the Magic round. I think it
was Mate thirteen.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Twelve went over Manly. Was that magic round?

Speaker 9 (34:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (34:15):
Magic? Yeah, that's a long time.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
And speaking of Manly, they can conclude Round nineteen against
the Knights in Manly.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
They are a couple of teams there who had you know,
grinded out, hard fought wins on the weekend.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
Towns was a really hard place to win.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
I know the Worries have made a habit of it recently,
but credit to Manly for getting the job done there
and I think they'll again. It's it's so tough these rounds,
these origin impacted rounds. No daily Terry Evans of course
for Manly and Trevoivich is he in the mix? I
don't think he got picked Jake Trevoivich. Yeah, yeah, Tom

(34:53):
Travoivitch obviously just coming back from injury injury and interestingly
picked in the centers for Manly at the weekend Newcastle.
As we mentioned earlier, at the time of recording, we
don't have the Queensland team. But do they go to
Kaylen Ponger for some spark off off the interchange for
the game three decided Yeah, I have no idea put
the coin up their lands on Manly.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
I don't think we've agreed on one. I'm going to
go for the Knights.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
It's that going around. It is these round nineteen and
thirteen and sixteen were the same. When they're impacted by
origin and we'll have it again next week too, where
the players back up. Probably an argument for another podcast
around whether we just have a complete blackout and it's
just representative football and I don't know the Kiwis play
some or something rather than you know, I'm sure there's

(35:39):
some NRAL coaches out there might prefer that rather than this.
But yeah, intriguing rounds nonetheless, and just quickly Queensland and
New south Wales Game three.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
What are you thinking, Oh, you can't go past I
mean Latrell Metell's a really big loss for New South Wales.
But I'm going to back them to do it at
sun Corp, just purely based on the confidence that last
game would have given them. I mean that first half
was just absolutely one ray traffic, so they know how
to do it. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Look, I'm going to disagree with you, which is consistent
right the way through. I think the sun Court factor
is pretty significant. I do agree that that New South
Wales certainly found something there in game two, but tough
place to win, and think New south Wales are only
one series deciders that sun Court twice in their history
sort of going back to two thousand and five and

(36:30):
the last time so it's all set up.

Speaker 5 (36:32):
Beautifully for what should be a cracker Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Well I can't wait.
