Speaker 1 (00:00):
McKay on Sport with Farmlands. You get ahead of the
game this summer, Paul Allison, Welcome on to the country,
sir and looking forward to a big weekend of Bunnings
NPC action.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, get a Hamish. It's great they have one mackay
replacing another, isn't it on the country? Yeah, it's a
big weekend all right, and it's hard to pick these
guys these matches that we've got in front of us.
Kicks off to night ten Pass seven. Not sure why
it's five minutes later than the normal kickoff time because
maybe they'll be waiting for a big crowd to roll
in down at Forsyth Bar Stadium when Otago take on

(00:33):
this afternoon. The White cat out the Mighty Muloop and
they've been boosted so much with the three you know
come all backs coming back into the mix with Jacobson
and leonnet Brown and also sammer Penny finale, that'll make
a bit of a difference. But they haven't been with
the guys for very long because a couple of the
money just come back from Perth last week, so that'll
be an interesting match. I think that'll be close, and

(00:55):
then of course we kick off tomorrow afternoon when we
get into things in the second of the quarter finals
by a Plan against Tasman at ten past four, and
then tomorrow evening Hawks Bay against Taranaki. Interesting when these
two teams met earlier on Taranaki beat Hawks Bay and
Bay have plenty beat Tasman. But this Tasman side looks
really good in the back line that they've got, but
they've just been patchy this year. They just haven't really

(01:16):
been consistent enough. And when you look at players likes
of Moua in there and back of Springer and David
Harveli and Tamafalao on the back line, they've got plenty
of talent to burn, but whether or not they can
execute it against what will be a pretty challenging match
against the Bay. So yeah, some interesting matches this weekend.
I'm sure that'll create a lot of interest as we
count down to next weekend with the Semis.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, absolutely, Tigo been to the manor Born this season.
They've looked like they're a contender all the way way.
Kaddow by the hair on their chinny chin chin and
lost to got hammered by the likes of matter were two,
So I would have thought there's one result only possible.
But as you say, White Kiddo strengthened. But you'd have
faith in Otago to do this with in your Paul,
I think that they should get this by twelve plus.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I think it'll be closer than that. I think it'll
be pretty much right down to the wire. Don't underestimate
this White Catto side. They've got a thirty six year
old bloke wearing the number ten jersey called Cruden who's
been around longer than you and I just about a
mush to be fair the Otago side. Look, they've been
consistent this year where is Whitecaddow. They had a what
a one point win against Auckland, a one point win
against Counties, a one point win against Taranaki and a

(02:20):
one point win against North Harvest. They haven't won convincingly
this year, but Otago they've wiped the floor on a
couple of teams, including Auckland last week when they absolutely
ran up that record score from the all time history
of Otago rugby against Auckland. So they've done well. They've
got a couple of young guys that really have stood out.
Dylan Pledge of this young twenty year old halfback who's
been a member of the under twenty team vice captain
for the basically the Baby Blacks, and Lucas Casey, still

(02:44):
only in his second season of rugby as an open
side flanker. These two have been really good, but it's
the players right across the paddock that's been Otago's success
this year. They've been consistent, they've done things right, they've
been well coached, and they haven't had too many injuries.
And so I don't think twelve plus I'm not going that.
I'll go twelve and under.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Okay, Hawks by Taranaki, you know both both you knows contenders,
a little bit of up and down stuff, but I yeah,
look like home advantage probably for me and that one.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, I think you're probably right. As I said, Taranaki
turned the tables earlier on in the year. But Hawks
bay at home. They are pretty dangerous and this is
two good sides. I mean, when you look at these
and the way that the competition has panned out this year,
you could almost say that any team's got a chance.
I think Counties Madecow is probably the biggest outsider at
the stage and I would imagine they will struggle against

(03:33):
Canterbury who are hidden hitting their straps as they had
pretty much throughout most of the season, apart from they
lost a shield and went to extra time against Northland.
But you know that's the good matchups and you know
Bay have plenty taman Hawks, Bay Taranaki. I don't know
which way either of them will go. Maybe hometown advantage,
but again, just don't underestimate that Tasman backline right exactly.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Counties madecaws, you say, come home with the wet sale,
but Canterbury to win that one. All Black's just out
of ten for the season to day, Paul, what's you taking?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Solid six? Maybe maybe seven? Can't get above the seven
Hamish to be fair. I mean they've been inconsistent. They
haven't played that wide, enterprising attacking style of rugby that
Razer had hoped that they might when he announced his
squad at the start of the season. They lost that
Test in Argentina, which I was there for, and they
just haven't been dominant enough. I mean, they got a

(04:18):
win last week in Perth and that was a bit
of a redeeming factor for them because they're able to
win two matches in a row, but they just haven't
been consistent enough. Sure they've had some injuries, but they
need to be better and the Northern Tour will be
a good test for them.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Okay, and finally Sunday, Big Day Mount Padorama, Bathhurst. Do
you sort of take the Sunday out of the diary
and watch it from way to go, Paul, No, I
snack away on it, of I go in and out.
To be honest, it's a big sitting.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Otherwise. I had a look back when this first started,
this thousand kilometer race, one hundred and sixty one laps,
back in nineteen sixty the average speed that the drivers
did over that entire one thousand kilometer distance was ninety
six kilometers an hour. Past four sixty five years, these
guys are averaging. This is averaging one hundred and sixty
seven k's on that Panorana circuit. And you know the

(05:08):
key weis have done well in recent years. Van Gisberg
has won twenty two, twenty three McLaughlin in two nineteen,
so yeah, they've done well. A lot of eyes will
be on young Ryan Wood, just twenty one years of age.
He's he's joined up with Jaden Odisa and that'll be
that'll be tough for those guys because they're young and
they're pretty inexperienced when you come up against some of

(05:29):
the guys likes of Cam Wader and Will Brown and
Brock Feenie, and he's joined up with Jamie Wincup, who's
a probably been round longer than you and I. So yeah,
it's an interesting date, big weekend of sport. I'm not
sure where you'll be watching it, but I'll be at
forsythe Bar Stadium this evening for Otago and let's hope
they can keep their home town Winds going in twenty
twenty five.
