Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yes, it is time to talk Heartland rugby. As we
say in association with Agricultural Consulting Services now. Jed Rushton
is the owner of that one. He is also the
chair of Mid Canterbury. He will be looking forward to
this weekend's game. But we have gone one better. We've
gone to the top drawer here this week. We've got
Matt Cooper zid are you president joining me? Good afternoon, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hi Ro It's a real pleasure to be on your show.
And god, I'm excited about this weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I bet you are. You're managing to go to practically
everything only one of the MPC semifinals, but we'll come
back to that in a second, because you're going to
be at both Heartland finals, the Meads Cup and the
Ware Cup. Let's start with the Meads Cup Thames Valley,
Mid Canterbury tomorrow two five Teador har Boyd Park. There.

(00:51):
You know what an occasion that's going to be.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, exciting all around you can actually you know, even
in here in Hamilton this week the the Thames Valley
ex Pats, they're on fire and they're so looking forward
to it. Later on this afternoon I head out to
Helpo and I want to go down to the Mid
Canterbury Captain's run, so they'll be there tram at Ohelpo

(01:16):
just just just before Tower and we do there and
they're staying out at the airport here in Hamilton, Mid Canterbury,
so hopefully Jed we'll catch up with Jed Rustlin there
as well. And for you know, for this pretty special weekend.
I always love Heartland, I love heart but I love
these these games. They're very very special and who would

(01:36):
have thought, you know, that would be you know, would
even be into Tiadaha after the strength of many years
of hung and Ui and also and also South campb
be what a result it was last week and you know,
particularly for Mid Canterbury to win, to win in the
last minute down into marou Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Absolutely, it's always really good to get one over your
neighboring provinces, as you will well know as a rugby
player of long standing yourself, and I'm not calling year
old there, Matt. I need to get myself out of
this hole very quickly. But who would have thought semi
finals and Heartland last weekends three out of four upsets?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Absolutely, and both of you both away teams are winning
and it was pretty impressive. I did see. I did
manage to go and watch Tim's belly play Buller earlier
on in the Hartman over at flung A Matar, and
they looked pretty impressive outfit. They were a very strong,
you know, very well drilled and that result surprised me

(02:32):
and long that it was again I knew that if
they clicked they could be hard to stop and that
was that was really impressive mid Canterbury. I mean, that
was a stunning performance down there. So you know, we're
heading to Boyd Park at two five tomorrow for you
know what is really what will be for some of them,

(02:54):
the biggest game of their lives, right, it'll be a
Grand Final that they will play. They will play under
the you know, they will start the game with the
with our national anthem, which you know for some of
these this is this is their World Cup final. This
is so special. So and there will be who's who's

(03:15):
going to be you know, who's going to change the game,
who's going to score that winning try? And pretty special.
So looking forward to a really healthy weekend ahead of
rugby in New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, and I know from being the ground announcer in
Wang anyway for some of their meads Cup finals. That
moment as the ground announcer when you get to say
ladies and gentlemen, can you plase the outstanding for the
national anthem of New Zealand? You know that's even special.
Was very special for me as well. Looking ahead to
Sunday two five, same kickoff time again King Country against

(03:48):
West Coast and the Lahawk Cup final. A game you're
going to be able to attend this one?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, it's tankes you interesting because normally when you plan
out you know that either my vice press that an
Aaron Rush or myself would be one of us would
have been heading to the South Island. I've got a
forty five minute drive to Boyd Park on Saturday and
then I've got a massive fifty minute drive the next
day down to Tea, down to Tikowiti and I can

(04:15):
even you know, have a have a coffee. Not not
one of your lattes, but I can have a coffee,
and I can have a coffee and a scan and
kiawamta on the way. But fantastic again, look at look
at that. Look at that result in the fifty two
fifty one row from from West Coast and then and
then the mighty King Country. You know, I'm sure, I'm

(04:36):
sure the late great Colin will be smiling that he's
got a Grand Final and in Tikiwity thirty four to
thirty one over East Coast in topal. So you know,
again such a and I love this. I love the
fact that in Heartland we've got the teams that finished
you know, the top, you know, the top of this
of the second part of the competition in King Country,

(04:58):
East Coast hoofan a company. In West Coast, they again
get their chants to have a Grand Final four under
the great name of Brian Lahore. But again just the
moment of those national anthems where where these players this
will be, This will be the you know, this will
be their final. This will be the World Cup final
on the weekend, which is so special.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Absolutely, Look while you're going through Tiawamusu. I got a
stunning bacon and egg pie. Jamie had to buy it
for me the morning after Pine Tree's funeral. Actually it
was the only thing that revived me after a two
am finish after calling in to wit Tea for one drink. Honestly,
the hospitality in Kin Country second to none just quickly.

(05:37):
In PC semi finals as well, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury
fourteen Saturday, Wellington wycut Or seven ten Saturday. These will
be great occasions as well. The Bop Steamers fans that
are going.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Off, Yeah, it'd be huge. Absolutely, was there last week
for the quarter against the Magpies and Canterbury, well, look
at that Canterbury performance against Tesla. No one's all that
coming in terms of their performance. So they are in
they are in grand They're in Grand final mode at
the moment. They are playing that type of football that
finals football, both any British special. This president lives in

(06:12):
Chiefs Country Row, so you know the bathleeny boys wishing
them well and then of course my old loved white
Console head down to Wellington. A pretty lot of injuries
for both sides and tough to be tough down there,
but the Mighty Mulus shod a hall of a lot
of resilience down at Yarrow's last week in New Plymouth
and I know, over two hundred tackles and they had

(06:35):
it about ninety percent success rate, So you know they're
going there hardened as well. But it'll just be you know,
that'll be that'll be a real tough one down there
as well, but again that builds up for an amazing
grand final between one of these that they are between
two of these four teams next week.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Absolutely. Matthew Cooper ended, are you president? Really appreciate you
taking the time to chat Heartland or rugby with me
and during your weekend of Maids in La Haw Cup
finals go well.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Looking forward to it. Thanks Roy,
