Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're talking international rugby now on the Country Sport Breakfast
where the Black Ferns are back in action this weekend,
game two of the Laurie O'Reilly Trophy against Australia. In
the first Black Ferns Test back in May, they had
a dominant win over Australia sixty seven nineteen. This test
coming out of Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane Sunday four o'clock
(00:22):
kickoff and we'll have a commentary live on Gold Sport.
Joining us on the show this morning is the Director
of Rugby, Alan Bunting. Morning. Allen morning, Well, the team's
been in camp for a week or two now and
now you're in Brizzie for a few days. How are
things looking?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yes? Good, we had a good week back in Auckland.
We've had some good loarnings out of our pick four
and I think it was a really really stepped up
and catching him change a bit two things. But we're
looking forward to being able to play a Australia game
in this important trophy that we play for a Lauria
Early you know, I mean the godfather of women's rugby
(00:58):
and he paid way for us. It's a special opportunity
for us to go and do the.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Justice a real dominant performance last time you played Ossie
Beck and May winning sixty seven nineteen. Do you think
they'll come at you a little stronger this time out?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, I think so in new coaching groups. And you know,
they've sort of going through a bit of a rebuilding
pitch too, so I'm sure they would have taken a
lot out of last They've just finished playing CG and
looks like they've changed it and going really well. So
you were differently expecting a yeah bit more this time Allen.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
For you and your coaching team, what are a few
of the key things that you've been working on since
the girls got back together.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Probably just more really we've built built a little bit
more structure in that game, but going back to what
you give love to do a little bit more the
DNA and being more around down instincts and playing what's
in front of us and really getting our game going.
And it's a little bit more of our kicking game,
territory game.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
A little bit of injury through the camp as of late,
few key players are out, aren't there.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah they're not. Most of them are not major injuries.
It's been actually really good help Gie for us to
build a bit of depth and some of our younger
ones coming through and then I think for the end
of the year moving into taking them most people come
there and be available, so it's sort of worked out
really good for us.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Is this a case of having one eye on that
England Test coming up in September?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, we're definitely there and obviously the little bit through
the head wheel cup. You know we want three or
four in exquisition in their job. You know, we get
in there now and we've got a bit of depth
and we've got some experience. We've got some new ones
getting some good games on, so you know, the team's
moving in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You said to name a more younger, less experienced side
for this weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I know we will probably have they be a couple
of boos this weekend and you know, all some opportunities.
Some of the ladies that haven't played yet have been
working really hard for the last six months and really
stepped up and give the opportunity this weekend a.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Strong forward pack. Is there anything in particular that you
will be getting the ladies to focus on Ellen?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Obviously, you know are going to breakdown and the collision
are you want to dominate that first, and we need
to do that to get our game going and sure
to be plenty of space out there and you know
for our ladies to use their instincts and find it
and building on our skill sets to get the way.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Australia have never beaten New Zealand. Has the game in
Australia have been left behind a little bit? Do you think?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, they're they've been through they've been through change, and
you know, when you go through change, it takes a
little bit a bit of time to get everyone on board.
And I'm sure they're going to grow and then obviously
their eyes are on the wheel cup too, so I'm
sure they're going to be improved. And we're looking forward
to a really good challenge this weekend.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
And you personally, Allen eighteen months in the role now
coming out of the sevens roll into the fifteens, how
are you enjoying it?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Oh? Yeah, moving it, learning a lot and now I've
got someone some mentors around me, Lusty and a razor
that I can kinderton anytime who has been really good
good AND's been both been in here quite a bit.
So now I'm loving it, sing your learnings and yeah,
you really, and the families are doing it too. They'll
be overy to watch the game, so yeah, loving it.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Ellen, thanks for your time this morning and all the
very best for Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Jeuse mate, thank you, appreciate it.
