(00:21):
first five Damien McKenzie, scoring eighteen points through six penalty goals.
Joining us on the CSB this Morning to look at
the action over the weekend for We're all like half
Back and now Gold sport commentator and not fronting house
moving programs and straw Morning Ants Morning BK.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I did whatch it last night? I thought Andy did
a great job. Actually it was a good show.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
It was a very very good show. What a hell
of a place to carry a house into.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Wow, it was amazing, wasn't it. But just just all
the backstory and everything in Andy, he's got a great
just the way he conducts himself. He's just got their
real jovial sort of style. Isn't he that resonates with people?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Okay, So let's were not able to talk house moving
Brogers and here to talk to your blacks. How happy
do you think Razor Robinson will be in the coaching
staff after that performance?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, very i'd say. I mean, this is probably the
biggest test, wasn't it Getting over The English game was
always going to be big, winning it, chugging in. But
the one that they would have targeted I would have
thought would be the Irish. You know, it's it's a
team that has been a little bit of a problem
for us over the last three or four years. We've
lost a few times becaus we normally we don't in
the course, playing in their backyard was tough and I
(01:30):
just thought, you know, whilst the game wasn't perfect, and
I thought Nick Berry the referee, didn't took a job
in terms of officiating slow things down a lot, but
it was a really big performance in building nice years
a group down. That's exactly what Razor would have wanted.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Have you noticed a change of style that the All
Blacks have played since the Test number one this year?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
You know, I think they're just starting to simplify things
maybe a little bit more, because when you get a
new group and a new coaching staff, it takes a
while but meant the way you're going to play the game,
and of course it's all based on the profile of
athletes you had, and I think maybe they tried a
few things in some of the home tests here that
just went quite what fit with the group. And you know,
(02:12):
we are starting to see some real innovative stuff. They
worked the ball nicely on the edges, for example, and
they're looking after the ball going through the middle. But
there's lots of little things that are slowly starting to
come and you know it's a learning experience for all
of them.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And not so many mistakes, not so many penalties, although
that happened on the other side of the picture of
the Irish, didn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah. I think that's one of the big things you've known.
I mean that you know that if you make a
lot of eras at international great, you're just turning the
ball over and you're going to get stung for that.
And of course you know, the discipline and the amount
of penalties we've been giving away and the cards we've
had in the last sort of five to eight tests
has been phenomenal. So they really did tidy that area
up and what a difference it makes.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
It's not the Irish team we've come to expect, really
was it. I mean, as we mentioned, a few mistakes,
too many penalties and so on.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Well, I think they're always going to be a little rusty.
I mean they haven't had a game since July, so
coming into our home tests, you know they would have
obviously done a lot of preparation, but nothing more than
playing games. I mean it's all that team that made
a few now, haven't they And yeah, they just win
the Irish team that were used to and they'll be
bitterly disappointed with their performances. They just never really got
(03:21):
off the ground and of course the amount of penalties
that gave away just always keep them on the back foot.
So again they'll be disappointed.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
And we've had some tough games leading up to this
Northern tour, I mean South Africa or Australia, although they
probably can't count them, is tough. But it has a
big been a big tough build up, hasn't it for
the All Blacks?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Absolutely? I mean they played the English to at home
as well, so they haven't been playing easy test matches
and I mean I guess when they mapped out twenty
twenty four it would have you know, it looked phenomenal
did and in terms of the amount of opposition they
were going to play, but you know, starting to play
dividends now. And just remember, you know, it's a long season.
These boys have played Super rugby, some of the out
(03:59):
speaking to play bit of NPC and of course now
a very tough autumn tour. So it's like, you know,
these help boys have been wrapped up in cotton. Well,
it's been a pretty long season.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah. It has a few cracking performances too from the
All Black. So I mean, let's start with Damien McKenzie.
He goes into each match now with a lot of
pressure on him. Was this the best you've seen him
play in the Black jersey?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah? I think so. I mean I spoke about him
a couple of days ago, just being you know, a
legit international player. You know, what he did off the
beach against the English was phenomenal and he came in
and did his job and exactly what they would have
want him to do. But of course forced into a
starting role. You know, the question was always ken Damien
map this All Black team around the field with minimal errors.
(04:41):
Sometimes you just got to play on scripts and I
thought he did that brilliantly. His goalkicking also solidified his importance.
But he just did things, you know, sensibly. I think
you'd probably say an almost sort of semi conservative for him,
and that's what this All Black team needs. I mean, Damien,
when he rolls the dice and plays a at Razel dazzil,
I'm not sure it's what the team needs. He'll always
(05:04):
vided in his wheelhouse, of course, but it was a
good game for him absolutely, and in the.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Forward pack hooker far more, I mean easily the biggest
test of his career and I think he passed it
with flying colors. How impressed were you by the Wellington hooker?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Well bear in mind too, he was forced onto the
field against the English when Cody Taylor went off earlier.
I don't think I've ever seen more play seventy nine
minutes in a Test match ever before. And he's gone
back to back with two marathon efforts playing at two,
you know, and of course that really augurs well for
him that he can play so deep into a game.
(05:40):
I mean we do normally see how Hooker's subbed at
around a sixty minute mark, just as throwing still to
keep working to work in progress for him. But what
he does around the field, he damages, dense the line
a lot. He's a good defender as well. Yeah, really
coming of age and.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
From a half backs point of view, you being an expert,
there are Cortez, Ratima and cam Royg. What did you
make of those two?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Well, again, I think the All Black there's one criticism,
you know, looking after the ball in the first half,
the Iraq ball was actually really poor. I thought, you
know that the ball presentation at times was poor. We
didn't get past the ball quick enough and look after
the rucks. For Courtez, he's under a lot of pressure
in the first half, probably got caught a few times
and we knew he hesitated a little bit. You don't
have time an international rugby, of course, and he probably suffered,
(06:25):
but he just stayed in it. Those things don't seem
to worry him, you know, the little eras that creep
into his game. And of course roy Yard is just
the perfect player that bring off bench, isn't he And
he's clinical minimal eras as you mentioned before, and he's
always a threatener. I really like the way his kicking
game is evolving too, so to close the game down
(06:45):
with the player like that, and I mean, I guess
you'll get it starts in time. It's a nice one
two punch I think to have the two of them
there and definitely the best two in the country at
the moment.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Rounds this weekend, so you think the pressure is off
the side a little with wins already against England an
Island on the tour. I mean, France looked really impressive
on the weekend, didn't they.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, I did watch the Japanese game. Next thing. I mean,
you know, the Japanese will always play a pretty high
tempo game and keep coming at you. But the French
were very clinical and they are a big strong side
up front as we know, and of course you know
they've got lots of pieces out in the back as well.
Their back three particularly are really really damaging. So yeah,
I don't think the heat comes off the BK because
(07:26):
you know, every test is the test of all blacks,
you know what I mean. If they got through this
Northern Tour undefeated, you know what a wonderful platform to
launch into twenty twenty five. And they'll be desperate, you know,
but the confidence building nice years a group this will
just be another massive test for them, and of course
three big ones in three weeks. You know that's not
evy either. So I look bit hope they have a
(07:48):
good week in preparation and yeah, I think it'd be
a wonderful game.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
How about the Wallabies beating beating England?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Eh ah, phenomenal. I stumbled across somes from David Campese
and of course Jose it's quite a good made of
mine and I was disgusted at what he was writing
about him, and I just sort of thought, wouldn't it
be wonderful for this Australian team to get up to
the Northern Hemisphere and knock over one of these big
teams and maybe it'll be a turning point for them.
But yeah, Joe's a wonderful man and I mean he's
(08:16):
doing his best for that Australian group, and yeah, what
a great result in what a phenomenal fitness.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Poor old Warren Gatland though he can't buy win Kenny.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah that's I think they said something like sixteen or
eighteen losses in a row. But you know, flip it around.
You know, Wales will be here forever and they will
continue to go on. But how good for the Fijians.
I mean they nearly beat them at the World Cup,
remember that was their loss was by only a point
or two. And for the Flying Fijians to get up
at Cardiff, yeah, brilliant for them as a nation. And
(08:47):
they've been building nicely for about twenty four months. So
you know, as one side loses BK, we always say
another side went and yeah that was a nice result
for him.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
And South Africa beating Scotland thirty two to fifteen this
morning as well. So you have been a big weekend
a rugby mate.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
How good is it? You know? The problem is I
get stuck on the couch. But Sunday morning, Sunday morning, mate,
they do much else. They're much gardening, nothing else, not
moving any houses or anything. So it's great to watch.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Good on you mate, Hey, have a great have a
great week.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yes you too.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
There we go, so joining us for more all black

andy Ls did a great job with that moving program
