Speaker 1 (00:00):
Motorsport on the country Sport Breakfast powered by CRC five
five six made right here in New Zealand. Time to
talk supercars now on the show, the Championship Decider This
weekend out of the South Australian capital in Adelaide, The
twenty twenty four Viiloh Adelaide five hundred kicks off with
qualifying the safternoon, joining us the Voice of Supercars. You
(00:24):
hear them right across the weekend doing commentary work and
that's Chad Naylor.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Morning, Chad, Brian Gooday, looking forward to this little last
stop on the tour. And I don't know, you never
know what could happen with the street circuit. So things
are looking very much at Will Brown's favor, but never
count out brock Feenie, who's pretty good around this joint.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, I mean two teammates in a way, are they
the two drivers? Really? Will Brown leading in brock Feenie,
who can win the championship? Separated by what one hundred
and eighty points?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, so it's a little over one full race worth
of points. So it is possible that it gets filed
on Saturday, So there is that chance the Will is
sort of match point number one. I guess you could
call it would be Saturday and a chance to get
the thing done, but one small slip up and if
Brock can win on Saturday and something happens to Brock,
(01:13):
sorry that something happens to Rule, like last year when
he got essentially wiped out on the opening lap of
the race, then championships back on.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
I mean, I guess the most important thing, and it's
like with any kind of motor race, is the fact
where you qualify. If you're stuck in the middle of
the pack somewhere, you're in a little bit of trouble
up front, it's the place to be, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
That's true, and with quality coming up, it's a pretty
vital session that one, just to get it right and
to make sure he's not dropping himself further back in
the pack. If you think back to Townsville, he had
that sort of similar situation where he dropped himself out
of I think seventeen or something like that and ended
up getting wiped out on the opening lap of the race.
So box number one for Will is definitely qualifying and
(01:53):
get through that one.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
And two races too. They are quite long races, so
bit of strategy two hundred and fifty kilo.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Races minimum two stops, but you never know if the
way safety cars play, he might try and make it
a three stopper like we saw recently earlier this year
as well with Matt Payne trying to make that strategy
work for them up in Townsville. So keeping an eye
on how that works. Only had the one safety car
last year. We didn't have one, I think in the
Sunday race. But the big talking point is probably the
(02:20):
heat because it's going to be thirty six degrees on Saturday,
small chance of about one to five mil of rain
happening as well, so if it's one of those classic
Adelaide hot summer's days, the rain could actually come in,
maybe even during the race, So that would certainly splicings
up as well.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
You're talking about Matt pain, I mean, Matt Payne knows
what it's like to win an Adelaide, doesn't he He does.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
This is where it all sort of happened to him
last year, and the year before that it was brock Feeni.
So the last two years we've been here, we've had
a couple of rookies get their first wins. So for
the Killie fans. Maybe Ryan Wood could be a guy
to watch out for him, you know, walking through Andrew
to United. He won both of the Dunlop Series races
here last year, so it actually goes right around this
joint and walking sure and dressed in general actually go
pretty good here at this place too. So imagine that
(03:04):
if you had another rookie three years in a row
when you had laid five hundred and for.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
This meeting, we'll be saying farewell to a couple of drivers.
One or two of them are either changing teams or retiring.
Richie Stanaway is going from the team. He's racing them
to a new team, isn't he.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yep, he's off the premiere. He'll be taking Tim Slade spot.
Tim's unfortunately without a right next year. And the other
one is Mike winnobottom I mean, twenty one years full
time in the sport. It's pretty crazy to think of
a grid without Frosty on it. It's such an amazing
record and time and the sport for him. So he'll
be a very valuable co driver next year. But there'll
be a bit of a motion around that this weekend
(03:39):
for sure.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
He's one of the more popular drivers out there on
the track. Chad. If we look back across the season,
how have you rated it.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I think it's been a great year. I think, you know,
year two of the Gen three cars has produced plenty
of entertainment. Topaul was a real highlight to me, getting
over and seeing a different part of New Zealand that
we've never raced in or The Grand Prix probably stands
out as well, and in Melbourne's the best racing of
the year. We also had Townsville that had some pretty
(04:08):
good races, but for me, the Grand Prix was pretty cool.
Thinking different winners like Perkat and Matstone Racing step up.
There's also a bit a bit of emotion at times
in there as well, which is like you want to
see a bit of you know, a little bit of
push and shoven in the middle of the pack and
a little bit of emotion in the middle of the
pack as well. Was never a bad thing, so I
think it's been I think it's been a wonderful yet.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Brodie Kistick, he's saved the best to last. He's looked
good in the last few races, but it wasn't quite
to be. But I think watch out for him perhaps
next year.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, when he's at Shelby part Racing, it looks like
he's going to be surrounded by good people there as well.
So you get the feeling that Brodie's a bit of
a sleeping giant, and I reckon that when he gets
the right things around him again, he'll be pretty hard
to beat next year.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
All right, So qualifying later on this afternoon and top
ten shootout and the race going tomorrow afternoon. Hey, ched,
have a good call across the weekend, Thank you so much.
Good on you bright Chad Naylan joining us out of
Supercars and we'll be on the call and working the
pits throughout this weekend out of Adelaide. Always great. So
practice again three point thirty this afternoon. Qualifying, Actually it's
(05:12):
quite late eight o'clock tonight New Zealand time, that is
for qualifying, and then the top ten shootout happens at
three tomorrow afternoon with race one which is seventy eight laps,
and that'll be at six o'clock around six o'clock tomorrow night,
and then for Sunday they do it all over again.
Qualifying twelve forty five a top ten shootout at three
(05:33):
all New Zealand time, and the final race of the
Supercar season, race twenty four, is at five point forty
five tomorrow night. Of course, look out for support races. Gee,
there was some carnage. I watched some of the support races,
some of those American style trucks. Boy, there was some
carnage and crashers. Yesterday always an interesting
