Speaker 1 (00:00):
I mean up to nineteen past seven, I've been looking

(00:02):
forward to catching up with our multimedia mega style of
the man courtside at the US Tennis Open. I've been
following it from Japan. I couldn't believe Craig all the
top seeds falling out in the first week virtually.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Oh it was. It was pretty amazing, Bika. I mean,
especially obviously the one between Alexi Popper and Grigor Dimitro, sorry,
Gregor Gymetro, Alexi popperin and Novak Djokovic. I've got Grigor
on the mind, he's on court right in front of
me at the moment. But that was a remarkable performance.
And yes, obviously Bertak vander Zansklop's performance against Carlos al

(00:37):
Karaz and being an Australian, absolutely, I think Alexi was bigger.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I heard Jokovic say in the postmatch after the game
that it was probably the worst tennis he's ever played.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
That his serve and all that was was totally off.
That he has been a little bit lackluster since being here,
and is tennis has not been at the level that
you would certainly expect from him. I think a lot
of that has also got to do with the fact
that he won the Olympic gold medal, although he was
also suggesting he doesn't know if that was the case.
I mean, that was the summing, that was the prize

(01:13):
that he was targeting the most this year and he
ended up getting it, beating Carlos in the final. But
and I think maybe that's just taken a gloss off
a little bit, and I mean even to somebody like him,
maybe a fraction of a letdown after the euphoria or
something like that.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
So some intriguing matchups looming now in the fourth round.
We're getting to the business aid of the women's raw
for the for the Open. So let's take a look
at some of those.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, absolutely well. The one person the player already through
to the quarterfinals and first into the quarter finals today
was Parla Badosha, done a lot better than her other half,
Stefano Sitzerpasio against one year fan of China. There's an
interesting matchup coming with Cocoa Golf to play Emma Navarro.

(02:02):
They played twice. One of those occasions is actually this
year in Auckland, and Golf won on that occasion. But
Navarro turned tables at Wimbledon this year so I think
that one hurt golf and she looks she's looking for
revenge today as far as Yeah, So those are some
of the highlighted women's matches really for today. And then

(02:22):
the women's gold medalist, Jiang chin when of China will
play the silver medalist. So we've got to repeat at
the Olympic Women's final today donavekch being the silver medalist,
and some on the.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Mean side of the drawl, there's some interesting metchups.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah. Look, there's an interesting one going on right at
the moment. I mentioned Grigor Dimitrov. He's playing Andrei Rublev.
Andre goodness, gracious, he's a character. I mean, he just
loses the plot big time and he's whacking himself with
his racquet and all that. He drew blood today. Seriously,
I mean he's just off with the pier seas at times.

(03:02):
So that's on, and we're just in the start of
the fifth set. Dimitrov won the first two, six three,
seven six, and Rube lovers come back six to one,
six three. So that's the situation on that one. Another
one that's on at the moment, Taylor Fritz against Caspar
Rudd Rud the first set, six three and Fritz now
six four five three in serving so to go up

(03:25):
two sets to one. But look some of the other
ones that are coming up today, and again the whole
Ossie aspect, and I mean, after all, New Zealand isn't
not just not a state of Australia, isn't it with.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
A wist island.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Alexi Poperain is going to be playing Francis til for
tonight and if he wins, we're going to have two
men in the quarter finals and that'll be remarkable because
we're guaranteed of one of straight in in when Alex
Dimenor plays Jordan Thompson. But that's tomorrow, so Alexi needs

(04:06):
to do the job today and if it is that,
it'll be the first time since the nineteen ninety eight
US Open, and at any major since the Wimbledon Championships
in two thousand to have two Australians in the quarterfinals.
And on both those occasions it was Mark Philipussis and
Pat Rafter.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Wow, that's something to look forward to. All right, Well,
we'll get an update of things tomorrow morning.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Let's do it then, Craig sounds good.
