Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the rugby field to the rotary shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport. Let's
head to the All England Tennis Club now at Wimbledon,
Day eight of the Tennis Open at Wimbledon. Joining us
on the grounds, our multimedia megastar Craig Gabriel. Morning, Craig, Yes, sir,

(00:21):
more wonderful English. Whether it's been raining overnight?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Oh yeah, Like what else would we expect over here?
I mean, this is just nonsense over here with the
weather because they've pretty much canned everything on the outside
courts is just caught one and center court that are
in progress.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
You're lucky you've got a roof to pull over the
center court and court one. Really, So let's talk about
the big match that's underway at the moment. Novak Djokovic
in action as we speak.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Indeed, he's taken the first set six to three from
Holgar Runa. It's two to one on serve in the set,
can set to Runa and Djokovic without you know, trying
to level this second set. You know what, b K,
I'm going to go out on a limb here and
the head to head between these two is three to

(01:14):
two in Djokovic's favor. So no, Holger has actually beaten
Novak twice. In fact, he did it in consecutive matches
that they played. I'm going to go out and say
that Holgar Runa will come back and win this match.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Oh, Craig, big call. I know he Novak got a
little bit fired up with the umpires a short time ago,
didn't he.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, and look it happens over here on any match
that any of these guys play, because it's such high
stakes and there's such mass fine margins as well. So yeah,
you know, there is a lot of tension around and
Djokovic knows that this is a match he could very
well lose because of Runa's ability. Runa has been off

(01:58):
the boil overall year. He hasn't played his best tennis
this year, and his ranking has slipped. But the winner
of this match replaying Alex Dimenor in the quarterfinals.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
How's Djokovic's knee holding up? Because I see it's heavily strapped.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
He's had that taping on or that brace guard, whatever
you want to call it, every match that he's played
as extra support. He had actually made comment about it
after his first match because one brit rider, oh journal
and they'll pick up on any little thing, seriously said

(02:34):
your brace it's not white. It's supposed to be white,
and it's gray. It's not that bad. And you know
he got away with the chair woman of the All
England Club, Debbie Drevns, who I know did see it
and gave Novak the thumbs up. So and Novak said, well,

(02:56):
Francis Tiaffo had a black arm band on with is
on his right arm when he.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Played so picky so picky o direction. As we mentioned
in the Means draw, a couple of American mina through
and an ossie's through to the Means quarter finals, you'll
be happy.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, absolutely. I mean the Antipodeans with lu Lusen and
Alex Dimonor. We've got to keep the flags flying. Well yeah, Look,
the American that got through is Taylor Fritz and he
came back from two sets to love down on the
center court to beat Alexander Zverev for the beating him

(03:32):
for the first time on grass. And it's just the
third time in his career that Fritz has come back
from two sets to love down to win. Also, the
other American that's in the quarter finals is Tommy Paul.
So it's the first time since two thousand that multiple
Americans are in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in the same year.

(03:52):
And that year Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras and Jan Michael Gamble.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
What a year. A lady's side of things, former Wimbledon
Champolina Rabkina has reached the quarters as well.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, she is through. And it was the first match
on center. She meet Anna call kullen Skaya, who's young. Sorry, yeah,
Ji Jannick Sinner's girlfriend. It was three six three. Gosh,
I'll get the false teeth in sometime today. It was
six three three love and kalen Skaya retired at that stage.

(04:28):
She needed treatment during the match and decided not to continue.
So she's through. Yelena Ostapenko, former French Open champion, is
through six two sixty three over Julia Putinsiva who upset
Iago Shriontek. And just a short while ago it was
Babora ka Jikova defeating Danielle Danielle Collins seven five sixty three.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
And of course all over the side of the world,
all we're talking about is lu Lussan and the court
of final tonight for her against the croat dot A Vikick.
What can you tell us about Donna.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
She's been around quite a while. She used to be
stan Vavrinka's partner for a number of years, and Donna Vekich,
there was a lot made of her, you know. I
think the lot thought that she was going to be
one of the next big things. Well, she's had a
reasonably good career, but not to the great heights. I

(05:24):
know that she and somebody I know very well, and
Isla Tomlanovitch, are the best of friends. They're very close friends,
and I think that's the Croatian connection on that. But
she's a solid baseliner and it's a match that certainly
lu Lusun can win. You know, it's a good opportunity

(05:46):
for her because she's not coming up against one of
the big guns like a Cocoa Gold was also out
of the tournament.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, we're looking forward to it. I guess the media
and the fans are they behind lu Lucan over there?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah? Yeah, I mean, look, I think they've taken Lulu
to heart, especially after her win over Emma Radakanu in
the previous round. So I think that Lulu is going
to get a fair amount of support from the local
fans over here against Donoveki. So it's somebody new, it's
somebody different. And she's the first woman to come through

(06:21):
the qualifying and reach the quarter finals for since twenty ten.
If she gets through, she'll be the first woman to
reach the semifinals from qualifying for twenty five years. The
last one was Alexandra Stevenson in nineteen ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
That's remarkable, it really is. Hopefully the sun will shine
tomorrow on in that match.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Craig, good to taking my line, have a good one.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
We'll talk tomorrow, okay, Craig Gabriel mns W nineteen and
Wimbledon and Novek Djokovic on target to take the second
set as well.
